    Recipe for anyone who needs it in the comments:
    For Cinnamon/Sugar Mix:
    1 tbsp (12 g) 0 Cal Sweetener (I like Swerve too)
    1 tsp (6 g) Ground Cinnamon
    For the dough:
    1/4 cup (30 g) Whey/Casein Protein Powder (I used the Quest brand and it works just as well)
    1/4 cup (30 g) Self-Rising Flour
    Sprinkle of Ground Cinnamon
    Heaping 1/4 cup (65 g) of Plain Nonfat Greek Yogurt
    For the frosting:
    1 tbsp (9 g) Confectionery Sweetener
    1/2 tsp milk of your choice (I like using unsweetened almond milk to keep the calories down)

      Wheat based flour spikes blood sugar. If you want to make this even better and more Keto friendly, use Almond flour and baking soda over the self rising flour

    After having great success on Keto for quite some time (the biggest part of my success being within the first 6 months but staying consistent on keto for almost 2 years total) I jumped off and back on the SAD due to insufficient time to prep keto specific meals/snacks and well, due to emotional eating after losing a loved one. I did that for about 6 months and of course regained about 20 lbs.. I have been trying to get back to my wellness for about 4 months now, going back to all my old keto and intermittent fasting ways that I had so much success with. however, nothing seems to be working. What was once so easy for me to do and stick with, now feels almost impossible. I am doing all the right things, tracking macros, fasting, intermittently and some extended fasts too.. However these have been the most miserable 4 months for me. Despite all the "work" I'm putting into it, I haven't lost more than 5 lbs, and i feel totally crappy.. not at all how I felt the 1st go round on keto.. Also, my cravings are for all non-keto foods.. not crappy stuff like donuts or candies, but I'm craving things like grapefruits, beets, non-keto veggies etc.. I do appreciate you sharing these alternative methods of weightloss and wellness with us @joeduff ... I think I'm ready to try something different. I have made so many of your keto recipies that always came out perfect, and now I'm looking forward to trying some of your non-keto recipies. Thanks again for all the deliciousness you share with us. Yes! Finally maintenance keto recipes. I don't really see maintenance keto/anabolic a recipes. I don't like doing keto in the summertime because of watermelon, grapes, peaches those sugary yummy fruits. I guess I'm a seasonal ketoner person. But I don't want to get too extreme and gain what I lost. So this is perfect while it's summer. Then I'll get back on for the fall in winter. I just need something for my coffee in the morning. Joe, I’d be curious to know more about your current diet strategy. Obviously you’re incorporating some carbs with this recipe. Are you doing a cyclical keto approach or carb backloading, etc.? Thanks!

    • @TheDietChef
      @TheDietChef  2 роки тому +10

      Sure. I'd say about 50% ish of my calories come from protein and then the rest are carbs/fats.
      I usually eat VERY LITTLE IF ANY added sugar..most
      sugar in my day comes from fruit (mostly berries)
      I eat around 500 calories less of my TEE (total
      daily energy expenditure) which is around 2600
      calories ... so I usually eat about 2,100 calories tomaintain my current weight.
      Basically everyday i eat around 250-275g PROTEIN and the rest is carbs and fats however that shake out and I get to 2100 calories

    Joe, why does casein protein help this recipe? Is whey protein the best protein powder to use to add protein to your diet? And how does casein protein make whey protein better? Thank you.

    • @TheDietChef
      @TheDietChef  2 роки тому

      Well casein is slower digesting...so it will keep you fuller longer. In this recipe it helps because it absorbs better with the ratio of ingredients I'm using and creates a perfectly chewy roll.

    • @TheDietChef

      Sounds like you might not be using the right protein powder… use more flour and it should work fine with your protein

    is the cassein in the protein powder necessary? I'm using normal whey protein powder and no matter how much extra flour I add it's just extremely gooey and sticky, It didn't hold its shape well after rolling it either. ):

    Hi Joe - I get this isn't Keto because of the regular flour - but would it work with almond or coconut flour, a little Xantham gum and baking powder?

      If you do try to do that I HIGHLY recommend covering them in plastic wrap after they cool....or baking them instead. The micro just has a way of making them harden up after about 15-20 minutes of sitting.
