I look forward to your informative videos. Your explanations are so simple and sweet. I love your style and your home and guests houses are so comfortable and you do it with ease. You do listen to your feelings. You know what you like and that is a plus. A lot of us haven’t figured it out yet. You are such a hard worker too! You love very organic items. Warm and attractive spaces you create. Thank you for what you do.
Informative. Great tips. Thank you for sharing your advice and your lifestyle with those of us who can only live the French countryside lifestyle vicariously through you!
Great recommendations and information on shopping for special items at the brocante. Think I was 6-7 when my grandmother taught me the ping method for glass/crystal. Hopefully the younger generations are starting to develop an appreciation for older items
Wonderful educational video. I did not know about cracking lead paint. So much great information to consider when you are on the hunt for that special piece (s). I do love that burst of color in your window. Beautiful flowers. Thank you for sharing all this information with your fans.
Great tips about being open minded and choosing what pleases you. I also keep a color palette in mind, so I can mix and match ceramic pieces in a similar or complementary color family.
Very well done. I really like when someone speaks clear, concise and to the point. You understand what your audience wants and you don't ramble on and on off topic. Thank you so much for all of the help. I particularly love your book reviews. So few people are making them a joy in their lives, let alone sharing them.🤗❤️🌈🕊️☘️☘️☘️
Thank you! Your comment made me smile. I’m known for rambling and speaking incessantly in my family 😂 But for videos I indeed try to stay on point. Let’s just say I edit out A LOT, because it is hard to change my natural way of speaking 🙃
That was so educational Marloes . I didn’t know that about lead 😮 I love the mantlepiece above the stove … and the lime plaster , it must be hard to know when a room is finished though.. when it’s enough 😊
I enjoyed your tips and simple approach! By the end I thought I had a “déjà vu” moment when you were talking about the book “Curate” but I smiled when realizing it is truly repeated twice and I think it’s a sign that I need to get it!!! Merci pour toutes ces informations précieuses!
I like your suggestion to honor your impulses. I sometimes fall into the trap of gathering too many images in my mind, so when I see something similar, I feel I "should" like it!
Some French trivia for you , the expression 'chiner' (searching for stuff) comes from the time when sellers in flea markets sold on the ground, not on tables and people had to bend over to look therefore 'se courber l'échine' (bending the back) , échine meaning the back. It became 'chiner' over time. Many think it has a reference to China (Chine in French).
I think these concise decorating and buying tips are excellent. You really have a good handle on this and it shows when you shop. Your personal style nicely complements and blends with the indoor architectural style of your home as well as with the outdoor surroundings. It's aesthetically pleasing as a whole which is also important to consider, IMO. The only thing I personally find a bit out of place is the American style cabin (architecturally speaking), but that is just me and worth nothing to another person's aesthetic.
Thanks! The cabin is indeed in a different style because I love many different styles! Our house in The Netherlands was very different as well. I love being able to play with different styles of interior because I have multiple spaces and don’t have to limit myself ✨
In France it costs about 30 to 40 euros to have a copper pan cleaned, polished and tinned (lined), I did a few some months ago. You send in the pans, receive a quote, pay then receive the items. There are a few companies who do this. Note that sugar based cooking is done in unlined pans, so making jam or caramel whould be done like this. Some food is better cooked in aluminium pans for reactive reasons.
Thanks for calling attention to the problem of lead in paint and ceramics. However, you don't have it quite right. Manufacturers put lead in some glazes not because it makes them strong, but because it's great at preventing flaws in the glaze. Your friend is right, though, above a certain temperature you can't put lead in a glaze. Highfired work - stoneware and porcelain -will not have lead in them. The test kit for lead should be able to detect lead in a glaze. And BTW, you should never store food in ANY piece of pottery that has cracks in it. Botulism can grow in those cracks, and it is lethal.
Yes thanks for clarifying! I understood the lead is in the glaze to enhance it and assumed it was to make it stronger or more scratch resistant. I personally don’t use them when cracked. Thanks for pointing that out!
I recently saw your vlog in which you said that you love antiques. I knew then that I had previously heard you say that you "hate" antiques. Now in this vlog you again indicate that you dont like antiques. Which is it?
With Antiques I mean the pieces that are older, the very decorated style of furniture or objects or paintings. I may have said “antiques” before to say I love vintage and second hand items but I never meant to say proper antiques. I prefer more simple items in neutral colors.
