My favorite band when I was in high school. I'm 40 years old now , I still listen to these guys.
47 here in Aus, & totally agree with you. 👊🏻🇦🇺👍🏻
Same man, used to play SOAD and Sipknot in my school pool/rec room, was kinda popular. I also played hardcore techno and Venetian Snares but they didn't go down so well.
Since I was 4 going on 29
I discovered them in my early 30's. Now I'm 50 and I still love them! Especially the self-titled and Iowa albums!!
@@melissavukelic413856 and I'm with you
When I was like 11 or 12 years old, I was filled with anger, was not violent, but suffered a lot, it was like a time bomb. And SlipKnot was the first metal band I knew, and god, they saved my life for sure. All those things I had inside, Slipknot made them more easy to overcome, as you said, it was a catharsis. The best one and exactly in the right moment. I owe them a lot :)
I feel this that’s why I got the s tattoo to commemorate
Same, man
Same man
Classic track but "Scissors" is their most PSYCHOTIC and intense song. My favourite! Please give it a listen! 🤘
That or IOWA
I second this
Just 'cause I have nerves don't mean that I can feel
I wasn't very much fun to be with anyway
Just let the blood run red 'cause I can't feel. Is so badass The way he sings it
Totally psychotic and awesome
Funny how Alex didnt listen to their whole studio discography but still made a video about "what your favorite Slipknot Album says about you' when he literally didnt even listen to the whole albums (????) Like this is the 1st time he's listening to the studio version of spit it out, Prosthetics, Diluted, Are so underrated and brutal and he didnt even check it out
GAMATRIA, ONE OF THEIR BEST SONGS OF ALL TIME and didnt even take a listen to the whole AHIG album
Alex lost his edge
I saw them at download festival this year. 120,000 people jumping up at the same time was INSANE
A lie: defintly not 120.000 at the same time.. if Corey says: EVERYBODY GO DOWN ON THE F*CKING GROUND: not everybody goed down on the ground... always
@@tr0ph_huntr634 If you want to be pedantic, sure
But the maggots do 🤘🏼🤘🏼
@@tr0ph_huntr634 the amount of people there, the amount they oversold tickets (they defo did, I was there, crowded as fuck), I wouldn't be surprised if it was 120k people all getting on the ground
Yo I was there too. It was my first ever live concert outing, and my first time watching them Live. Absolute madness. Loved every second.
Best word to describe slipknot during this phase is honestly just… unhinged. So fire.
The whole X-factor thing with Slipknot is completely true, It is so hard to point to exactly what "it" is with all eras of Slipknot. They have that just... I guess the best word is energy? They have a sound to them that's just very them, they have anger but its also darkness, the feeling that they give isn't really "Angry for the sake of it" but more like "Let out your anger" you know? It's the best way I can describe it.
Aggressive?
@@QuantumCat5446 I guess, but more of a supportive aggressive I guess? 😅
@@ZoltanvamosOfficial Slipknot is not always supportive. Theyre more often than not just bitching about their lives (though it absolutely works super well). There’s a good few exceptions obviously, and I’m not too familiar with anything past .5
@@liminalcriminal_ It is supportive, IMO. They are vocalizing what so many people are feeling and letting them know that they aren't alone and they do belong somewhere.
I think you nailed it. I think they just reflected a lot of the frustration and rage that was tearing through us teens in this era. Their music was such a good outlet. I had the pleasure of seeing them live in the early 2000's, so many bruises, good times.
Me too...Ozzfest 2001. Marilyn Manson played after them though and blew them away! That was back when Manson had John 5, Jeordie White, and Ginger Fish in his band though they were on fire back then during the HolyWood tour.
I saw the Holywood Tour, too. Peak Manson.
Slipknot back in this era was everything that you needed to live for.
Fun fact: this is actually THE DEMO of spit it out, they decided to put the demo version into the album because they find it better than the version we were supposed to have (the Stamp you out remix, or the hyper version, either of 2) and Corey wasnt satisfied with his vocals so the demo is quite hard, but the Hyper Version is really fast
I honestly think the re-recorded version is much better than the demo, but it felt so weird since I was already used to the demo version. But, if I'm gonna jam Spit it Out these days, I listen to the re-recorded version because it has the same sound and mix as the rest of the album. And, I think Corey sounds much better in that one as well.
@@OneSickDrummer honestly I love the Hyper version, so fast, I actually used to find weird how Spit it Out sounds compared to the rest of the self titled album, it really did felt like a demo, Corey also sounds mord deep and gutural, similar to his IOWA vocals, the re-recored version he rly sounds more like his self titled tone
But I still can't decide between the 2, not the biggest fan of the Stamp u Out remix tho
I love this guy, he likes beating the shit out of things.
There were sooooo many bands doing music with similar concepts and arrangements and structures during a 3 or 4 year period back then. What pushed them up was that their singer is world class, same for their drummer RIP, their bass player RIP, the guitarists are both top tier, and the DJ did his job but also took it to extremes on stage with the percussionist, that made them collectively unstoppable
Seen them three times in last three years they still killing it!! Last of a an era.
I used to sing this at karaoke when it first came out. One night, the electricity went out in the bar right after I finished the first verse. The DJ allowed me to start again from the beginning. For anyone that was under the illusion that I was just mumbling incoherently, I performed it exactly the way I had the first time. It's difficult with how fast he goes, but when you nail it, it's fun as hell. On the subject of Slipknot, have you listened to their first album? They remade some of those songs for their first two major lable releases, but it's fascinating to hear their origins. Back in 2000, when Slipknot was touring the US in support of their major label debut, I went to their website. I found out their tour dates and the cities they were going to. It was quite disappointing to see that they would not be hitting up my town. Their website had a place where you could send them a message. I told them that here in Tucson, I'd sung a majority of their songs at karaoke and would love to see them live. Not two days later, they added Tucson to their tour list. I'm not going to say it was me, but deep down inside, I like to think that it was because of my message. Anyway, I saw them and they were amazing!
I’ve been a huge fan of Slipknot for almost 20 years now. You hit the nail on the head with this type of music being a catharsis and a positive outlet for inner turmoil. These past couple of years have been the most difficult and challenging times of my life and other than music, your music and movie reaction channels have been a bright light for me in this dark time. Thank you for everything you do man. I hope you and your wife are enjoying yourselves in Hawaii!
Released way back in 1999, at the time I was just a humble 1st year at secondary school (high school for the non uk).. This song was my introduction to slipknot at 12 years old when it aired on kerrang, when kerrang was on TV
Good vibes and an absolute throw back to my era
Keep up the awesome reactions 👌
You now need to complete the " spit it out " trilogy and watch Corey Taylor do the Acoustic version live in London 😈☺️
YES! 100% agree on this 👍🏼
There's a trilogy to this song???
@@Dante7yagami trilogy maybe misleading.. There is the live slipknot version.. Studio/ video version.. and Corey Taylor doing it solo on his acoustic guitar..
one of the best videos ever....saw it when it first released and was instantly a Slipknot fan! and word to describe them in that era.....BRUTAL
I've always had a way of looking at slipknot as like rusty metal. Not rusty as in old or bad but dark gritty hard. Fucking loving these guys.
This is the case where the live version is most awarded than the studio's version. Such a wild masterpiece.
Classic Slipknot! Back when they still wore the jumpsuits and had the homemade or converted masks. RIP Paul and Joey. It's also good to see Chris and Craig again.
I like SlipKnot but I saw them live at Ozzfest and took a p!ss break during their set lol. IDK what it was, maybe they were having a bad day but their energy just wasn't really there. Maybe it was because they were still a young band at the time and they were on the main stage at Ozzfest at an amphitheater...they were probably used to playing small clubs back then. Marilyn Manson played after them though and blew them away!
6:07 Fun fact: they used to destroy stuff when they played this song (almost at the end of it) back in 99' . It was literally chaos everywhere, besides the band going crazy, of course
You crack me up bro! Love it!
This is the song that got me into Slipknot and metal/rock music as a whole. It came at the perfect time considering the mental state i was slipping into at that time.
Also, please do some reviews on Murderdolls. Make sure to hit the deep cuts.
Primal is the way to describe Slipknot at this stage. The energy and the rawness of the performance is what sets it apart in my opinion. This album and Iowa were absolutely entrancing on the atmosphere and the coarse vibe created. It feels unscrupulous, turbulent and intense. The extreme force of it when you consider the roughness, but how hard it is to express feelings that crude.
Now you have to listen to the third version of Spit it Out... The acapella version at the end of the Corey Taylor Live in London video... There are so many great moments in that show. The crowd singing along is magical in the songs Bother and Through the Glass.
Awesome reaction bro!! I’ve been watching you for about three years now and I never realized you never reacted to the studio version of this song lol. Fun fact, because at this point they were just starting out as the 9, they had just gotten Corey on vocals so this was very much the baby stages of them as a 9-piece. They didn’t have a building big enough to house all their instruments so all the music had to be recorded outside and all the mixing was done completely by Joey and Shawn, this was voted the number #1 best sounding song on the album. Along with Surfacing at #2 for having the heaviest breakdown in the middle of the song, you can’t really hear it unless you have the bass cranked up but it’s there, pretty impressive!!! Keep up the awesome work my brother, love and respect!!! 💯🤘👊
There is another version of this that Corey done on an acoustic tour and holy hell its great. If you can please watch that one its great
This is why for reaction channels I say it's always best to hear the studio version first, then whatever songs you like you go and listen to live versions of it. It also makes it so that for a song people can put in comments their favorite live version of the song and maybe even link the vid.
As far as this song being 5 years late...well yeah, it is but better late than never and now that one commenter can finally relax! XD
I think the live version sucks ass. I don’t even know why people recommend it. Only because “jump the f up” which I also think sucks 😂 This plus the video is sick
@@Camm85 I always felt the Disasterpieces live version of Spit it Out was better than the 2009 Download live version.
I agree, it doesn’t make sense to me why people hear live versions first. The studio version is how the song should be heard at first listen, then see the differences in the live versions.
@@JeremyBarbell Because sometimes iconic things happen live where just like this studio version was passed up for sop long a reaction channel might just skip the live version and totally miss something special.
Dude another fuckin awesome video. From the second the music hit my head was rockin non stop. Love your energy and passion man. And i also have contained energy bursts that make me feel like punching pillows.
Been a long time coming I was always a little mad you only did the live one
In other words, they would’ve had a tougher time in an earlier era of mainstream, radio and labels. The Internet allowed for expanded opportunities and distribution for talented bands like this to explode.
I think they were always destined to rise to the level they did because of the aesthetic. Regardless of the music, that kind of things draws people’s attention. It gets people talking, positively, and negatively and any publicity is good publicity. Not to mention, there’s an inherent darkness inside of every human being, and I feel like the slipknot of this era, and the Iowa era personified that darkness. I know it gave me, in my angrier years, a place to put my anger. Self titled will always be my favorite era, because it was the time I discovered who I was as a person at that time, and they were the catalyst for that. Anyhow, good stuff!
Editor Alex was on point this vid hahaha made this reaction one of the classics for me 😂😂😂
Yo if you're still on your Slipknot deep dive, you should do the deep cut for Danger - Keep Away. I would also recommend the full version which is a bonus track off the deluxe version of Vol 3.
Full version is best.
The one word I'd use to descripe Slipknot from that era is Visceral. It's unapolageticly upfront about the intents and topics and for their time it was brutally heavy.
5 years of rock🔥🔥 you've come a long way I remember when the name was Hip Hop Head lol 🤘🏼
Man, it's been a MINUTE since I saw you come across my timeline. Love the energy, as always! You should check out the band Shadows Fall, I think you'd dig their stuff.
Notable songs, take your pick:
What Drives the Weak
The Power of I and I
The Idiot Box
A Fire in Babylon
My Demise
The Wasteland
Fire From the Sky
They were the big thing from Roadrunner Records so most metal fans instantly knew they were worth listening to back then, that's how they managed to get in to HMV on the listening posts
Sepultura - Dead Embryonic Cells 🔥
Okay I didn't know there was anyone with a broad interest in music who hadn't heard this song, but glad you jumped into it!
First video I’ve seen of slipknot and was hooked ever since
The reason the early slipknot is something else is cause it's technically 90s music which has a divine touch to it ;)
I've just binge watched a handfull of your metal reviews man after one of your vids poped in my feed!
I have a suggestion:
The band is Chimaira, with the song Inside The Horror.
There's no videoclip for the song, but there is a guitar playthrough on Rob Arnold's channel, he's the lead guitarist.
Cheers! 🍻🤘😝
Their first album is visceral. They were always heavy but that first album was just raw agression and all of the pent up rage from the lives to that point.
To describe Slipknot in this era in one word, I would have to say they are frenetic. So much chaotic energy there that just makes you happy to go fucking crazy headbanging! Speaking of which, lemme get back to it! :D
Damn, it's been at least five years since I subscribed because I remember getting the notification for the Slipknot reactions.....time flies.
Watching these guys at my first few metal festivals, in Australia in the early 90s, was utterly life changing.
Slipknot didn’t exist in the early 90s
Love it. My first time watching. I hope you’ve done some Kublai Kahn, Hatebreed, or Slayer. I saw these guys at Wacken in 2022. Out of this world!
I would say revolutionary- they took what rock was in their day put their heart/ feelings/ aggression and recreated the wheels of what rock and metal sounds like. I remember listing to them for the first time as a freshman in high school and they got me through some dark times.
On the verge - thrown, this is a must. Very similar feelings
That song came in the area of when i was young and hungry for new music that you never hade heard before!
right band in the right time!
One of my favorite bands.
Those who don't get it, don't get it.
Love your reaction videos
Two days ago i saw the old reaction videos again and now you're reacting to spit it out!!!
Gotta listen to the whole first album now!
It's been 20 years since I first heard this from a mix cd a friend burned for me (for all the younguns that's the dark ages before sending eachothers Spotify playlists was a thing)
It still goes hard nowadays
The music was so Savage!!! That's the best word I can give you for it.
This one's great but I love the hyper version a lot more
I looked thru the vids on your channel and i am shocked you have not reacted to landmvrks. You did hardcores try not to headbang 2020 so you heard the opening to lost in a wave but youve never done a full song reaction, or any of their songs. French metalcore band with a very unique vocalist. Id love for you to hear that full song (lost in a wave) as i believe you will really enjoy it, then if you like that you can check out some of their other popular songs.
Never fail to make me smile lol, love you Alex been watching you for years❤
Description in one word is RAW
This was my introduction into slipknot, the only kind of metal I had listened to before was ADTR because it was my brother’s favorite band when he was my age. This is probably one of my favorite songs.
How to describe them in the 90s? Metal. How to describe them now? Pop/rock
Please tell me you’re not considering we are not your kind as pop/rock
The Prodigy - Firestarter. You need to do this
Would love to see more avatar and skindred reactions. It has neen a while
Your reaction is 🔥🔥🔥
I still remember seeing these guys live for the first time in 1999. I was hooked from minute one. They were all wearing the identical jumpsuits from the video (this video was clips from Ozzfest 99'), and it was nothing but a red blur from them running around and slapping each other on stage. There was pure chaos in a bottle, and I figured there was no way this band would last. I can't believe even with the extreme ups and downs that, they still do. I saw them three times at different festivals last year, and it cemented again just how well the music and energy are still alive! #spititout
Slipknots first album when I heard it as a kid changed my whole path in what music I listen to, I remember hearing sic for the first time and it just made me want break the fucking walls down in my house.
check out avoid the light or becoming by pantera, crushing riffs and insane solos ofc. RIP dime getcha pull
It's primal bro, the word your searching for is PRIMAL!🤘 High horns mate.
Yea, I never saw you listen to the studio version. Your reactions are great. But this has been something I was never able to find because everyone reacts to the live version. But, gotta say I agree with the guy who constantly made those comments, because it brought this reaction that I have been dying to see.
well as you mentioned “Iowa” left being next review 😅
Yo! Was not expecting Animal Collective to come out your mouth! Love them.
Been a fan since M.F.K.R. Seen these guys 17 times live, never gets old.
I remember being at their second Ozzfest show back in 99 in Indianapolis In,nobody new who they were..nothing we have ever seen before super unique for its time...long-lived the knot
I remember seeing this in 99 at about 3 o'clock in the morning on rage, changed my life
Brings a tear to my eye since this is your first time watching the video 🤘😆👍
This song is still great up to now 😆😆😆 YEAH!
Also you wanting to buy 4 Happy Meals and throwing it out the window followed by swallowing a whole coke can got me rolling hard 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I know you reacted to Kamelot in the past, so I figured you would probably have a great reaction to The Great Divide from Kamelot!
The first album was so rough, raw, rude… energetic as hell
Definitely a track on your gym playlist….lift like an animal
Perfect album.
The way I see slipknot is creatively chaotic
You should listen to Vermilion pt 2 Bloodstone mix off of All Hope is Gone or Circle, The Virus of Life by Slipknot if you haven't already.
Wish i didnt miss the streams if notifications actually worked. Awesome reaction though!
Where'd u get them Dahmer glasses???!!! I want those as well!!! Anyways awesome video, again, I was surprised as hell after reacting to sooooo much Slipknot you still had not heard the studio version for Spit It Out (I do remember the Live @ Download '09 that u did)
Now we need to reaction too the live version.
Or psychosocial like their song title .btw love when you said" i just wanna punch shit"lololol i love that feeling with badass awesome music like this ❤
I haven't seen this video is such a long time. Brings such nostalgia. Its sad to see what the band has become lately.
it was the brutal honesty and driving music which gave them their edge. they stood above the rest because it was a band you could vent your rage with
Alex, there's more Slipknot songs u need to listen haha try Child of burning time for ex, it's a good one from All hope is gone era. OH, and you need see SIC but from a liveshow (2012, knotfest). This one is fire!
now you gotta listen to the other two versions Hyper version and Stamp You Out Mix
the word brutal comes to mind but theres so many words from this era. id say even just screaming would cover it. and its a great release of the extra just raw energy that comes with growing up;.
What is your outro song its dope as hell 🤘🏻
Time to venture to new countries too! I recommend Le Manu by New Zealand band Shepherds Reign. They sing in Samoan, a language you haven't tested before!
“Bury your ass with the chrome, straight to the dome” is such a good line, I’ve always loved his writing since day one 😂
Now thats the way a reaction is supposed to be done!
I had the VHS to this video I bought along time ago.
Time for some Devildriver!! Clouds over California!
Controlled chaos, this era of SlipKnot was controlled chaos
Slipknot just have an energy that is all their own and it's just infectious to those who open up to it! As for other content, I guess I'm going to keep bugging the crud out of you till you react to the movie 'The Crow' PLEASE
One of my favourite songs of all time is King of the delta blues by an underground band called The Gorgeous
