Actually, we shouldn’t speak to fascist and nazis like they’re decent people. Ben has inspired a few mass shooters. He talks about immigrants, Muslims, and people of color like they’re sub human. Just because he sounds educated, speaks fast, and seems well mannered, doesn’t mean he should be treated like he is a decent person.
Bernie saying everyone should have healthcare and a republican getting shot, is not the same as Ben saying gay people and trans people shouldn’t exist. Embarrassing

I always had a problem with the words "homophobia" or "transphobia" because the Greek word "phobos" means "fear", and those words are not about fear, but rather prejudice and discrimination. That being said, I have way more issues with the prejudice and the discrimination in themselves than with the words used to describe it.

There’s a reason why when most of us were growing up, we were told to generally avoid arguments about 2 things - politics and religion 😀. I feel like one of the biggest factors contributing to our current state of seemingly increasing division is the rise of 24/7/365 media where we’re constantly inundated with political and religious “propaganda”. I use that word because most people generally watch media that aligns with their worldview, which creates confirmation bias, which just makes us dig in even harder when it comes to debating “the issues”. Kudos to Ben and this young lady for showing us that we can disagree without resorting to ad hominems or childish outbursts.

    • @nikolai522

I agree that generally arguments regarding religion and politics should be avoided where possible. Obviously if you’re out and about, working, shopping, etc., that’s definitely not the time or place for it. But I do feel discussions such as the one between this young lady and Ben are necessary. If you look throughout history, there has always been division, violence and bigotry in regards to politics and religion. I feel it’s sadly inevitable to have politics and religion without those things. It doesn’t make it justified or morally okay, but it’s just a sad reality. No matter the point in history or circumstances, there has always been people who let their emotions overwhelm their rational and logical thought process and take things to the extreme. But on the more positive side of things, look how far society has come and the many problems that have been solved over time. Sure nothing is perfect, and there are still lots of problems and challenges, but that’s why political discussions are needed, so we can find solutions to those problems.

In my humble opinion the biggest problem today that covers a lot of what has been mentioned in this video is we live in a twitter / x / ticktock generation. What I mean by this is we are only allowed to give a short answer to a deep conversation and society will not let you give more than that and if we did try to type a long answer or record a long video people will clip it to bite size chunks and that could alter the entire answer to the social questions we are talking about. A few times before I’ve written a answer on places like facebook and UA-cam and gone in great depth why I feel and I believe in my humble opinion this is the answer and I’ve even had people I agree with getting mad at me because they clipped my response and took that small part not the answer in it’s entirety. Until people listen they have no real grounds to give their opinion on that answer because the answer they give will be almost wholly made up of speculation and misinterpretation. We need society to get out of this lazy mind set and be ok with opening up and speaking what’s on their mind entirely and then being patient enough to wait and listen to the replies don’t ignore them don’t cut them off don’t drift off because chances are that person listened to you and that’s why they have a long answer so do them the same courtesy as they did for you and listen quietly so you can give a informed response. This young person and Ben did this very well there was a few points they spoke over each other but it was not beating the other person down verbally it was just the heat of the debate. 👍🏻

The problem with this discussion is that it’s dishonest at the end of the day. The woman was trying to say that Ben’s statements on trans people were based on prejudice and Ben said it’s simply a matter of searching for truth and that he doesn’t incite violence. Logically, one of them must be wrong. If you pay attention to what Ben is saying, it seems that his «disagreement» with the trans community is «I believe sex isn’t malleable, that females can’t be males and vice-versa». You might not realise this right away, but there is something very wrong with that sentence. Ben is talking about sex. Why? That’s not the subject of the conversation. Sex and gender are different concepts and this isn’t an opinion, it’s an empirical fact. And Ben knows this, he has been on gender debates where it was explained to him and he admitted that they were different concepts. So why is he talking about sex and not gender? Well it’s simple, he knows his audience won’t know the difference, and by pretending that the conversation is about sex he can refer to “biological reality” which makes him sound factual and his opponent sound delusional. Again, I wanna stress that Ben isn’t confusing the two out of ignorance, it’s a deliberate tactic. But then one could ask, what is his motivation since it doesn’t seem to be the search for factual reality? Simple answer: it’s prejudice, AKA transphobia. Which is made more obvious by the fact he isn’t just “disagreeing” with trans people but has actively advocated for measures aimed at preventing people from having access to transition, which is a violation of their freedom. Ben tries to justify this as «gender dysphoria is a mental illness and therefore we shouldn’t go along with it ». Now, is gender dysphoria a mental illness? YES!!! 100% it is!!! And what do you do with a mental illness? You don’t handwave it away, you take it seriously and you treat it! And would you look at that, the medical community has a consensus on what treatment is most effective: it’s TRANSITION. Now of course, despite the fact we have hundreds of peer reviewed studies showing that transition is overwhelmingly effective in treating dysphoria and helping people (99% satisfaction rate which is VERY HIGH for a medical treatment), Ben has the right to disagree with the medical consensus. But if you want to disagree with the consensus, you’d better have a better alternative to propose. So how does Ben think we should treat gender dysphoria??? By firmly saying “you are mentally ill therefore irrational so I will not go along with your delusion you need to accept reality” over and over under the sickness goes away maybe??? We don’t know, because he doesn’t care about helping disphoric people, he just doesn’t want there to be trans people existing because he finds it icky. Not to mention if we take into account the people he associates with, in the daily wire for exemple, we find unambiguously violent, sometimes borderline genocidal rhetoric being shared.

As a fellow 808 resident- I would like to know if you have thought about signing up for the seminar on running for local positions and campaigning- I ask because I wish I didn’t have so much going on personally right now- because it has been a thought.
We have much aloha and respect here- we have always been a blue state- but I hear more and more students and parents talk about how they aren’t being represented anymore. That the family units - you know we are multicultural and multigenerational here- family and respect and learnings from elders aren’t happening- that many who have left Asia are scared about how the left is leaning- most of my personal community and work community is very center -live and let live-
I don’t think enough people on the island know where to start- we are the only state that doesn’t elect their school board and have no say in our kid’s education and as someone in the know- most 8th graders read and do math on average of 3/4/5 grade leveled -3/5 years below their grade level.
I think someone who is level headed and can see how both sides of a debate is behaving is important - and I think you should consider getting involved locally here -
beautiful mixed up plate lunch of cultures and traditions
We are slowly being pushed to be more like CA- we have lots of school programs that come from CA and DOE even has many come from CA to speak to educators- and that is scary to think in 5 years that the 808 could be a mini CA

The suffix "phobia" by definition means to have an irrational fear of...
So I support Ben in using language correctly. For what she wants, she needs the suffix -ist, as in racist, sexist.

The problem with people talking about transphobia is it says it right there “having a prejudice against transgender people” I personally don’t have any prejudice against any person that I am aware of. I am however strongly against wild ideas that some kids and youth arrive at and the fact that many people in society today want to normalize these weird ideas that they get, especially when it comes to kids.
like Allowing a doctor to do a surgery on a child because the child who doesn’t fully know what she or he is yet has something click in their head that says “I’m not supposed to be a boy or I’m not supposed to be a girl” and then society says OK well if you want and your parents say it’s OK let’s change that.
Let’s give you hormone blockers and cut that stuff up and stuff it inside you or blah blah blah whatever they do to girls who “transition” that’s what I have a problem with. Im not against the persons, I’m against what society has done with these ideas and these thoughts and these feeling. these are life changing decisions that kids are making. they don’t even qualify. If there’s something wrong with the kid. Maybe there is a deep rooted lack of love. have they been molested? they just hear he has a problem. She has a problem they don’t feel like they’re right in their body. Let’s change that. and they don’t ever tell you about the ones that regret it deeply. Some of them even want to kill themselves after making a transition. Because sometimes they are not happy with the outcome of how their life is afterwards but when they were younger, they didn’t realize the ramifications of this process and once you go through with it, it’s hard to go backwards what’s worse is They’ve been blocked from having the natural hormonal process for years and now they haven’t had the proper puberty experience and their sexual identity is all messed up. And it goes on and on.

Language in general is being diluted. I dont necessarily think it's changing the definition. People just aren't being taught to respect the sanctity of meaning, so the definition isn't being represented properly.
I do think a lot of that misrepresentation is deliberate, though... and being skewed to propagate harmful information. Or, like Saiman said, used to shame and gaslight people into accepting the harmful information more readily.
