Alex, for what it's worth, with this video, you have gone up so many levels in my estimation of you. I'm 60 yrs. old, & now you know how I feel about most people under 30. They make it hard to be tolerant of them, because if they don't know something, their first instinct is to put it down & say how "old" it looks/sounds. I thank God now that I was brought up by my grandparents, because a deep sense of large spans of time were instilled into my brain at a very early age, making me so aware of social changes, trends, & how youth usually don't even bother anymore to study & appreciate the not-so-distant past.

we lived in a different world. back in the 90s we had no internet and no access to literally everything, weren't bombarded by new content left and right on a daily basis. looking into past was filling the need for new things, now this is automatically filled by how accessible and easy to find and consume everything is. though when i was a kid i never explored anything but just watched MTV, only started to look back as a young adult.
plus, parents also looked at us at us said "back when i was a kid" the same way we say it about today's kids and the same way today's kids will say about kids they see when they grow up 😅

Nah, we do, at least some of us, these videos are for sure scripted or they tell them to be as loud/annoying as possible to get views, don't know if you watched this channel before and when all those people walked away because of the controversies surrounding the fbe brothers in charge and those people all said they had favourites and made the videos go in certain directions they wanted so you think you're watching honest reactions but you're not. So, it's possible they now do what I said at the beginning or I don't know where they find these kids hahah. I mean, yeah, we listen to current stuff definitely but everybody can find some stuff they like from the past and they do, like old rap, 70s rock, some metal..

@@AC-by9wv oh these kids are definitely acting exaggerated/scripted in ways to get people's reactions and then reactors like alex react and both sides get views. it's all business but it makes me laugh how many people in comments are genuinely angry and think these kids went there to be 100% themselves and not paid actors (at least to some degree).
and it just makes me generally sad watching adults dump on kids as if they forgot how they acted when they were the same age and what their parents' generation said abut them. because it was pretty much the same. no self-awraness at all.

OMG this gave me a headache and diarrhea, lol.
I graduated in '96 so not only did I listen to all of this when it came out, many of them I saw in concert. A couple of the kids gave me some hope, but the abundant use of "iconic" and "vibe" was painful.
It's also worth remembering that our parents' generation feels the same way about us, and so that's a good reason to learn about music that came before - the more respect we give to the past the more justified we are in getting on the gen z for not doing the same, lol.
I didn't listen to much other than 80s/90s as a kid until I got to college, and as a programmer I needed an easy elective and took "history of rock and roll" which unbeknownst to me at the time ended up being my favorite college class that I took. It was basically a curated "reaction channel" back before we had those: the teacher took us starting in the 1910s and 1920s with Scott Joplin and Louis Armstrong up through Cab Calloway, Bing Crosby, the Andrews Sisters, into the 50s with the Chordettes and Elvis and Johnny Cash, all the way up through the 60s, 70s, and 80s with the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Zepplin, BTO, James Brown, etc.
One of the things he did which was cool was track back CURRENT singers that our class cared about to who inspired them, etc. Michael Jackson grew up with James Brown, who grew up with Louis Jordan and Ray Charles. Kurt Cobain grew up listening to John Lennon and David Bowie, Green Day grew up listening to the Ramones, the Clash, and the Who, etc.
Reading up on who your favorite bands say they were influenced by and listened to while they were growing up is a great way to discover new music, and building a mental "family tree of music" like that is a great way to anchor yourself in our culture so you can have something interesting to say whether you're talking to an 18 year old or an 80 year old.
(side note, the face you make at 10:46 is how I know you'll be a good dad)
    Cheers bud
