Linda is and will always be one of the greatest voices of generations, JD was a talent is his own right as a great songwriter 🎵He has said many times when he heard Linda sing it was as good as it gets the perfect combination of singer and song writer ❤🎶
J.D. Souther and Linda was a perfect combination of emotion and talentin music history. There's nothing to change and also, no more chance to repeat it again.
John David Souther was like a fith Beatle to Ronstadt, The Eagles, and Jackson Brown. He was in the background writing songs that made hit records for others. Then, in 1979, he released his third solo album titled "Your Only Lonely". The first four tracks were "You're Only Lonely", "If You Don't Want My Love", "The Last in Love", and "White Rhythm and Blues". All four songs have transitioned me into and out of relationships, low these many decades. Apparently, I am not alone ... Roy Orbison covered "You're Only Lonely" Linda Ronstadt covered "White Rhythm & Blues" George Straight covered "The Last in Love"
This duet is absolutely sublime. This is my first time hearing it- and I’m only sorry that I hadn’t heard it sooner! Beautiful arrangement and production. Fantastic submission, Debbie, I thank you for sharing your knowledge of Linda’s music with us! And thank you Harri for another happy reaction 😍✌🏼🌻
One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard and probably one of the best harmonies ever recorded. Absolutely stunning. I think the entire Prisoner In Disguise album, my favorite of hers, is reaction worthy. It is impeccable from start to finish. Man, her voice was a true gift to the world.💯
My favorite Ronstadt song is Blue Bayou... It was written and orginally performed by Roy Orbinson... Note: Roy Orbinson; Pretty Woman and In Dreams are two more of his top hits even unto this day...
Usually, in my opinion, a duet has each performer singing their own solo parts, then coming together with harmonies. Linda certainly had her shining solo parts, but JD basically sang with her and not on his own. So I would say he provided backing harmonies . . . which were great.
One of my very favorite of her songs. So pensive and forlorn, which is the point of the song but it is beautifully realized. On the album it is listed as a solo for her, which is how I've always thought of it, with J.D. Souther as her backing vocals though I can see how it could be interpreted as a duet.
My favorite Ronstadt song. The harmony here with J.D. Souther is unreal -so perfect. Yes, I think of it as a duet, but Linda has some really strong solo sections, too. Call it what you want -I call it perfect. It’s on Linda’s album of the same name. Prisoner in Disguise.
Another song that she recorded of JD Souther’s is Faithless Love, I love the banjo in that song. He also recorded it and it’s beautiful so is his song When You’re Only Lonely.
@@MikeeDineen I willingly accept that title! 😂 I just adore her voice and have always found her to be an intriguing person. She was always very intense in her pursuit of producing the sounds she aspired to create and she did it beautifully! Hence, we have these wonderful recordings to enjoy for all time. 💐
They sing so beautifully together. I did not know J.D. had passed. He was a great singer and songwriter. I don't think he received the notice he deserved. 😢
Debbie - Me complimenting you for your song choice seems like I need to do more. Ever since J.D's passing, I have been playing many of the songs he wrote for Linda. There was an extraordinary relationship between them throughout both of their careers. In the comments below jamestaylor3429 thankfully notes his songwriting for Roy Orbison and the Eagles. I want to add Kenny Rogers to this list. The Eagles hit "Best of My Love" was written by J.D. Souther, Don Henley, and Glenn Frey. Debbie, your song choice, Linda Ronstadt's "Prisoner in Disguise," and the video collage were perfect. The music world has lost a great talent and a wonderful person in J.D. Souther. Harri, your reaction commentary and contributions were superb. Thank you.
Thank you Dave. I’m always happy to share my love and knowledge of Linda’s music with anyone who wants to listen. Her voice never ceases to amaze me even after nearly sixty years of hearing it! 💐
@@debbiechang5781 Please feel free to enlighten me concerning anything about Linda. Unless you have already seen this, it is terrific: "Debbie, Linda Ronstadt Documentary-The Sound Of My Voice-2019." It's here on YT. There is another documentary that I must find again. Of course, any performances, particular songs that you would put in your Top 10, etc Anything that you want to share about her would be greatly appreciated. Of course, this goes both ways. My vault of music treasures may have things you would enjoy. Feel free to let me know whenever you would like,
@@davebzen795 Hey Dave! I actually have that documentary on DVD (of course I do because I am a total Linda Ronstadt nerd!) Here’s an amusing bit of trivia: Linda, as a young child, thought English was for speaking and Spanish was for singing. Her reasoning was rooted in the fact that her Mexican relatives were very musical and family gatherings often included her going to sleep in her Daddy’s lap as he played his guitar and sang traditional Mexican songs. 💐
@@debbiechang5781 Debbie - Thank you for this nugget. I did learn a bit about this in one of her documentaries. If I recall correctly (unlikely), her father was a well-known Spanish-speaking singer. Linda adored her father, his music, dancing, and caring father. It did not take long before Linda's emerging talent as a bi-lingual vocalist. Her Dad was a joy to watch in the documentary. Please correct me if I am off-base here. Linda became one of the most talented and successful recording artists. At some point, she wanted to record a Spanish-speaking and singing album. The record company didn't think this was a good idea. Linda's popularity and her record company's revenue were at or near the industry's top. Linda could do whatever she wanted and prevailed. As noted by Glenn Fry during her belated induction of Linda into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the album went double platinum in a week and remains the highest-selling non-English speaking album of all time. Fast-forward a bit. I was stunned when I first watched Linda and Mariachi Vargas perform La Charreada live. It remains one of my favorites, and it made my four years of Spanish classes in high school very worthwhile. There have been many truly great and talented female artists, and Linda belongs at the apex. Debbie, thanks again.
Thanks for doing a great reaction to this beautiful song. Linda had so many of these gorgeous ballads on her albums that were never even heard by many people. I have always thought that her best work was overshadowed by her “pop” songs that got extensive play on the radio. I’m glad this lovely collaboration reached some people here who might have never heard it otherwise. Great job Harri. You’re the best 🌸💐✌️
I’m so glad that you requested this gorgeous song, Debbie! No, I’ve never heard it before. Many thanks for your “filler” requests for Linda. She doesn’t have fillers on her LPs.
Trisha Yearwood after signing her first recording contract brought her "Prisoner in Disguise" album to her meeting with her new producer and said, "this is the type of music I want to make."
Never heard this song before. My ex-wife reminded me of Linda. Fall in love Everytime I hear her. By the way, I like that you shaved your head. I liked the dreds, but I like even more that you had the confidence to shave.
Harri I am a fan but I say with respect that you just got caught not knowing who JD Souther is, and it isn't a good look my friend. Even if the recording and song is new to you, you don't want to do this kind of song as a cold reaction without getting some background on it before you go on air.
Linda is and will always be one of the greatest voices of generations, JD was a talent is his own right as a great songwriter 🎵He has said many times when he heard Linda sing it was as good as it gets the perfect combination of singer and song writer ❤🎶
Linda is the greatest most versatile vocalist of her generation.

Faithless love is one of Linda's favorite JD song. She does an amazing job
Another great Linda cover is her version of Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" love the simple passion in which she performs it.

Our good friend JD Souther on the harmony vocals. So underrated...
They sing so well together and it is very beautiful. Thank you Debbie and Harri. Linda is such a beauty.
