They say the first time they met they started singing improvising and sounded like this and knew they had to work together. Emilou and Linda were already friends when they met Dolly.
Hey guys, Emmy Lou ISA BIG DAWG! Look how young they are? I have had her CD’s for 35 years! I love them all, but personally love Emmy Lou’s harmonies the best of anyone. I have seen her in person in the 90’s.
Emmylou Harris is one of the "big dogs." A hugely influential artist. With Gram Parsons she was a huge part of what later become Americana. She covered, and helped bring to prominence, great songwriters like Lucinda Williams and Julie Miller. She leant her voice to so many great songs by other artists from Buck Owens to Bob Dylan. She is as tremendous.
She donates her talent every year at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival in San Francisco 's Golden Gate Park. She's always one of the headliners the final night of the 3day free festival.
I was introduced to her music by this TV appearance. The back story was she hated to do TV because she thought she never looked good and that TV people always gave her a hard time about Gram but the BBC were desperate to have her. She would not agree to do the show's usual format of interviews and songs but offered them a concert in the BBC theatre they could tape- they near bit her hand off! She was overwhelmed by the reaction she got from the broadcast- the reviews were amazing and her tour sold out. It got her over her fear of TV and she got this punk rocker listening to country. ua-cam.com/video/HNIncN1DtAw/v-deo.html
When Linda Ronstadt was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame she couldn't be there because of her illness and Stevie Nicks. Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow, Carrie Underwood, and Glenn Frey sang her songs you need to watch that it is GREAT.
Linda was able to attend a couple years ago her Kennedy Center Honors Emmy Lou spoke And talked about their decades old friendship and how much she loved her! Emmy Lou lost the love of her life Gram Parsons Linda was so so much there for her!!!!!!!!
Hi, if you'll still see this; what did you mean by.. "because of her illness and Stevie Nicks"...? That quite jumped out to me. Have honestly no idea if that's a typo, or some salacious/gossipy story. Don't know (almost) anything about their lives. But the Stevie Nicks part seems to have the absurd potential of an epic gangsta rivalry (I kid.. but not entirely sure)... 🤷🏼♀️
The 3 of them performed this song together on Dolly's show in 1976. They later collaborated together on a few albums. The first Trio album from 1987 is great & showcases the lovely voices of these talented ladies. Lots of great songs such as "To Know Him Is To Love Him", "Telling Me Lies", "Those Memories Of You", "Wildflowers" etc. They did a 2nd album Trio II in 1999. It also has many hit songs such as "After The Goldrush", "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind", "Feels Like Home" etc.
Those 3 women right there are each absolute legends on their own, but when you put them all together…. It’s like angels have come down from heaven to sing you lullabies.
Y'all would love the movie about Linda's life, "The Sound of My Voice." In it, Dolly says with awe, "Linda can sing anything!" There's also a film about Linda's work supporting a Mexican-American school that teaches Mexican children about the richness of their musical heritage, called "Linda and the Mockingbirds."
The first time I ever danced with my (now) husband was to Linda Ronstadt's "Ooh Baby Baby" in 1985. 37 years still together. You would probably like it Amber :)
This television performance (1976) was before they did their first project the initial Trio album. Which was fantastic a mostly traditional country album with traditional country instruments. This song appears on Linda Ronstadt's 1975 album Prisoner In Disguise, with EmmyLou backing Linda. Incidentally so does Linda's version of the Dolly classic, I Will Always Love You, which David Foster and Whitney Houston used, as the template for their 1992 recording of the same song. When Dolly found out they were using Linda's recording as the template she had to phone David to give him the final verse (not included in Linda's recording). Also the second Trio album, contains 5 songs that were already recorded by Linda, on her 1995 Album Feels Like Home.
Emmylou Harris is a legend in her own right and a queen of Country Rock or Alternative Country. "Two More Bottles of Wine" is a classic hit of hers from the mid 70's.
So you've done Linda as rocker, Spanish and country. Now you need to hear Linda with jazz orchestra. My favorite is Linda Ronstadt with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra singing "Someone to Watch Over Me". Beautiful George Gershwin song from the 1930's.
I like to equate Emmylou's voice as being as clear as Waterford crystal! The three of them appeared on David Letterman's show in 1999 and sang Neil Young's 'After the Gold Rush". An instrument invented by Benjamin Franklin, the glass harmonica, was played, which made a haunting sound. The sound of the glass harmonica along with the beautiful tight harmonies of the Trio is magical!
The instrument's proper name is not glass harmonica, but simply "armonica". Franklin named it after the Italian word for harmony, "armonia". It's one of my favorite instruments.
They are the best of the best of American female vocalists! No auto-tune, nothing artificial. Just Emmylou with her guitar and the piano. This is all them. No "sweetening," no plumping up the vocals -- just pure, natural, beautiful talent. Love the reaction as always. God bless! ❤
Just wait, yall be sleeping on EmmyLou Harris. Her catalog is deep. "Two more bottles of wine" and " Save the last dance for me" and so many more bangers
Different Drum early on. Please Please Please Please do her duet with Aaron Neville - Don’t know Much. Can I get many thumbs up to get that one on the channel. Finally the Trio. Been suggesting this. I have them on vinyl. One of my treasures. Can not hear this without tears. So tragic that Linda can no longer sing due to a rare long name disease with no cure but similarities to Parkinson’s. My heart breaks for her.
Emmylou Harris can be found singing harmony on some of the best country and Americana recordings for the past 50 years. My sister and I used to joke that she just showed up unannounced at recording studios and secretly recorded backing vocals.
This was beautiful. Please put k.d. lang on your Female Friday list. Especially her rendition of Hallelujah at the Juno Awards 2005 live. She's a fantastic Canadian performer. Also listen to Crying, Constant Cravings and Miss Chatelaine. I think you'll enjoy her music. You guys do a great job with your reactions!
So beautiful, I could listen to it over and over. Each one beauty in itself, but together with their harmonies, it's like a warm blanket being pulled up on a cold night. It just soothes my soul.
These three are true legends and their voices blend in harmony so smoothly from Dolly's high to Linda's vocal control to Emmylou whose voice is like your favorite soft blanket to wrap yourself up in on a rainy day. Put them all together and I get goosebumps every time. One specific thing I can note here: You know the saying "The way a musician plays is like a fingerprint. Something that they were born with and nobody else has". The same goes with songwriters. None of them wrote the original song, but I can guarantee that it was Emmylou who wrote that arrangement. So much talent in such a tiny little gal
3 women - 1 guitar - perfection. I always loved how they each respected the others talents and had no need for ‘showboating’ their voice above the other two
Another song that they did as Trio, later on, is “High Sierra”. It will dazzle you! Thank you so much for honoring this amazing collaboration. Linda has also done some amazing duets with Aaron Neville, James Ingram, Frank Sinatra , and Chuck Berry to name a few! Great reaction! 🌺✌️
Three legends. Dolly Parton is a great human being. What she does with her reading program for children is amazing. Without Linda Rondstat the might not be the eagles..Emmy Lou Harris has an amazing voice. You should hear Emmy Lou sing Evangeline with “ the Band” on the the last dance video.
All 3 are great human beings who are highly respected in the industry both for their talent and for their willingness to help out others coming up. Linda has several exes, all of whom still sing her praises. She is still close to Jerry Brown and his wife. To be in an industry known for its egos and people stepping on each other to get to the top, these 3 women all show what class and grace are. All are perfectionists when it comes to the music, but they know how to get that without putting others down.
@@vincentjoyce5100 Her faith in vaccines by putting her money in the development did more than the actual donation IMHO. "If Dolly believes so strongly, I guess I will get the shot when it is available"
I can remember my Grandma singing this song just as sweet as an angel as she worked cooking breakfast! I am talking eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, buttered grits, and stacks of toast. I miss her, and my childhood!! Things were so much better back then. It saddens me. Thanks!
This brought me to tears.... i had Linda Ronstadt's albums....all of them when i was a teen during the 70's, and i can vividly see and hear in my mind my bedroom as i listened to this and all Linda, Emmylou and Dolly songs. What a beautiful memory ... this was one of my favorites. And Emmylou is totally one of the "big dogs"
This is talent! No auto tune, no a.i. Just raw beautiful talent! This is my favorite song by these 3 ladies. So grateful for both "Trio" albums. Linda +Emmylou have sung together many times in the past. Give a listen to them on "I Can't Help It If I'm Still In Love With You".From Linda's "Heart Like A Wheel" album.
Two songs I think you might enjoy, Jewel ft. Dolly Parton - My Father's Daughter and First Aid Kit - Emmylou. First Aid Kit is two sisters from Sweden that sing folk music. The song Emmylou is a tribute and they got to perform the song for her when they were pretty young. That video is definitely worth watching.
what can i say you guys are playing with iconic figures in music history it's like getting 3 exquisite ingredients for a gourmet meal this ladys are unique and well recognized for their own God giving talent and when you combine them all 3 together besides being stunning it's like knocking on heavens door that's why they've transcendent over the decades they're remarkable
OK - here is one of the best things y'all have listened to. These three were so aware of each other and trying not to oversing that the mixture was perfect. Both Trio albums are pure gold!
They do an incredible version of Neil Young’s “After The Goldrush.”. There’s an official video, but the version I like best is their performance on Letterman, The Late Show. It’s incredible.
All three of these women are incredible talents. I listened to Linda and Emmy Lou a lot when I was younger and owned records by them. My appreciation of Dolly came later. She not only has a sweet voice, but she’s also a wonderful songwriter. I believe she wrote this particular song.
Emmylou Harris may be the greatest harmony vocalist of all time; she sounds amazing with anybody. Next Stops: Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris, "Love Hurts" Emmylou Harris and Ricky Skaggs, "Green Pastures" The Trio, "Farther Along"
Agreed, 100% Emmylou Harris with Neil Young "Sweet Old World" One of the most beautiful, and at the same time, saddest songs ever. Always cry, always love it. Same duo, not so sad, though: Neil Young with Emmylou Harris "Star of Bethlehem" Also check out Emmylou singing "Mary Danced with Soldiers" and "Riding Alone" from the "Will the Circle Be Unbroken - Volume 2" record. Both absolutely beautiful, and yeah...both sad, too.
YES YES YES Ricky Skaggs!!!!!! (I got to meet and chat with him recently - and got an autographed copy of his book. The guy was my idol as a young singer and musician who was my same age. He provided so much inspiration for me as I watched his performances. With Emmylou - my heart throbs.
I knew you would love this trio. All three of these ladies can sing anything they want and they joined forces to create a super tro. This is a rabbit hole worth exploring.
Hands up, everyone who saw THIS reaction coming. :) For once, I don't have much to say. Great reaction. I will merely suggest that the next incredible 70s songbird you need to get to know is Crystal Gayle. "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue" would be the perfect place to start. My mom used to LOOOOOVE her voice.
From someone who lived it: you two are true children of the Sixties. Your joy and positivity gives me hope in these troubled times. If you really want to fall in love with Emmylou watch her perform “ Tulsa Queen” live at the Old Grey Whistle on UA-cam, along with her legendary Hot Band. I’ve cried every one of the hundred times I’ve watched it
Watch this on UA-cam: "Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris Trio Documentary." It was actually Emmylou who was responsible for getting them together.
Thank you !!!! Knew you’d both just love it. One of the best reactions from one of the best group of female singers bar none. It will be difficult to top these three ♥️
It took me a couple decades for Dolly, but she (and I love all three of them) just knocks my socks off now, especially how well she still sings. Peace, Love!
These ladies (Trio) singing After The Goldrush! Knock out, stunning, beautiful…. My god, I can’t tell you how much I love it. The arrangement and the way their voices compliment is unmatched 👑👑👑
Love all three of these women, individually and collectively❣️ regarding Linda's versatility, you have to check out her singing torch songs with the Nelson riddle orchestra. Another amazing accomplishment
This was the first collaboration of Ronstadt, Harris and Parton released in 1987 in has a platinum cerification ,they have a cover of "To Know Him Is To Love Him" which was a hit for them (Written by Phil Spector for the "TEDDY BEARS"). In 1987 they topped the country charts. There is a "TRIO II" released in 1998. Trio sold for US sales of one million copies, has approximately two million worldwide.
I can't remember if I'd recommended these ladies in an earlier video, but they were on my list to recommend to y'all. So glad you got to them. Since you mentioned incredible harmonies, I HIGHLY recommend the Eagles' Seven Bridges Road
Emmy Lou Harris is from my state of Alabama. Her voice can stand up next to anyone. Give She Never Did Say So To Daddy. The Trio is fantastic. Great reaction.
I am SO happy you finally got to these wonderful trio! Still holding out hope you get to the queen of singer songwriter Carol King. You've listened to do many of the songs she wrote without even knowing it. Please 🙏
I was first introduced to this song on Linda's "Prisoner In Disguise" album that features Emmy Lou on harmony. A beautiful song....a hymn that touches the soul. Excellent choice and reaction. Thank you and God bless.
Thank you for reacting to The Trio!!! You nailed it, their voices are perfection together and they DO sound like heavenly angels!!! They have two complete albums together with such incredible music! It does not get any better than this! They define the word "harmony." Go down the rabbit hole! You'll be so glad you did. BTW, you're an awesome and beautiful family and couple. You're such a blessing to those of us who enjoy watching your videos! Thank you!
EmmyLou is one of the greats and belongs up there beside Dolly & Linda. "Beneath Still Waters" , "Hickory Winds" and "Tulsa Queen" are just a few of my favorite EmmyLou songs. For something a bit more upbeat you might sample "You Never Can Tell (C'est la Vie)" or "Two More Bottles of Wine". She has an extensive catalog of great songs and duets with some of greatest in the business. Great reaction guys, as usual.
They first came together because Linda and Emmylou had met and became friends. Both said Dolly was their favorite singer. When Dolly dropped by Emmylou's home at the time, she called Linda to come over. The three of them were amazed by how they could harmonize. They finally got OK from their record companies to record an album. I recommed everything they recorded together: Telling Me Lies, Wildflowers, My Blue Tears, After the Goldrush, Oh, the Pain of Loving You,,,,,,,,
The documentary about Linda goes into how this group formed. I don't remember the whole story, but the gist of it is that Linda and Emmylou were friends already. They were living in L.A. Linda got back from a rehearsal or a gig or something and got a message from Emmylou that Dolly was in town and wanted to meet her. Linda said she broke every speed limit on the way to meet Dolly. It's funny to hear them speak in such glowing terms about each other as you hear in the documentary. Make no mistake, though: the perfection you hear in this song and the rest of what they put together is due to Linda Ronstadt demanding that perfection and riding herd on the other two, particularly Dolly, to make perfect happen.
I saw in an interview where this ideal come from they got together one night for dinner and started singing different songs and decided to form this group .
Ya'll are right on the ball, this was amazing, SO beautiful and Linda is a LEGENDENDARY singer, she's my favorite - please continue reacting to her hits.
One of Linda's genres you haven't checked out yet is operetta. She actually starred in a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta called "The Pirates of Penzance." A song from it called "Poor Wandering One" is a good start, found here: ua-cam.com/video/RfjAJn4SC-w/v-deo.html
Linda starred in "The Pirates of Penzance" alongside Kevin Kline in Joseph Papp's Shakespeare in the Park production on 11 August 1980, co-starring Patricia Routledge. Again, when the production moved to Broadway in 1981, with Estelle Parsons replacing Patricia Routledge. &, yet again, in the film adaptation in 1983, with Angela Lansbury replacing Estelle Parsons. Personally, as amazing as Linda's voice ALWAYS is, no matter what she's singing, I think she's at her best in operetta, & again in mariachi!
Im 60 years old now and in the twilight of my years but my mum will be forever my hero and the love of my life for the sacrifice and hard work she did to bring us up in a time of no money and hardship always with a smile and we had the best childhood in the world because of her. She was a very pretty slender lady but could fight like a man if you ever crossed her she died at 69 years of age of cancer and was as brave as anyone I have ever known. I so miss you mum but I know you are all around me and my family give dad a big kiss from me untill we meet again xxx.
Three iconic women. My suggestion for Linda Ronstadt would be to listen to the song "Desperado" by Linda and then by The Eagles. Both versions are fantastic. Then I'd suggest something from her 80s album What's New of jazz & Great American Songbook standards - "I've Got a Crush on You" or "Someone to Watch over Me". The What's New album which she made with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra was full of songs from the 20s-50s AND was #3 on the Billboard Charts for weeks in 1983 after it was released - behind only MJ's Thriller and the latest Lionel Richie album.
The Grammy award winning 'Trio" was a wonderful project for all three and produced the greatest non-family harmonies in country music You should check out "Those Memories of You"; "To Know Him is to Love Him," "Wildflowers," "High Seirra," "After the Goldrush," "Grey Funnel Line," and "You Don't Knock."
The Sweetest Gift was on Linda's Prisoner in Disguise album with Emmylou doing background vocals. Also on that album Linda recorded her version of I Will Always Love You written by Dolly Parton.
They say the first time they met they started singing improvising and sounded like this and knew they had to work together. Emilou and Linda were already friends when they met Dolly.

And *what* a vocalist!

Thanks!
This video is a lovely reminder of what music once was. I hope it can return some day.
Oh my gosh - titans of music! Emmy Lou and Mark Knopfler singing, “if this is goodbye” is a very worthy watch too
Emmy Lou can sing with anyone. These three together is a gift.
EmmyLou Harris is always forgotten as a great artist, but she also is a superstar.
Linda also did 2 albums of “standards” from the 1930’s and 40’s. More crooner like. Bestsellers and Grammy winners. She also did opera in NYC.
She did 3 actually, What's New, Lush Life and For Sentimental Reasons and then later released all 3 as a box set.
Might I suggest my favorite from this Trio - "Telling me lies." Just a WONDERFUL blend and showcase of their voices.
When three legendary performers combine their talents, this is what you get.
Total enchantment
Next Stops:
Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris, "Love Hurts"
Emmylou Harris and Ricky Skaggs, "Green Pastures"
The Trio, "Farther Along"
"Love Hurts" is a fantastic song.
Ok I'll stop saying it, Emmylou & John Denver "Wild Montana Skies"....hehe...
Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt, In My Hour of Darkness. Very tight harmonising.
I knew you would love this trio. All three of these ladies can sing anything they want and they joined forces to create a super tro. This is a rabbit hole worth exploring.
I had forgotten about this song. I lost my mother last month, so this one hit me hard. Thanks guys, for being who you are.
I love that song your mom has good taste
Don't it make your brown eyes blue??? to know these two have never heard Crystal?? Isn't she June Carter Cash's niece or something like that??
@@smspirate Crystal Gayle is Loretta Lynn's sister. I believe her real name is Brenda Webb.
@@jeanstrickland2445 Don't EVER tell her otherwise....😂
@@Shrykespeare oh I won’t tell I don’t want slapped in the head, just joking sounds like a good mom! I was born in 1962 what your mom ?
It will be difficult to top these three ♥️
be thankful that these iconic performances were able to be recorded before computers and cellphones!! 🤣
It took me a couple decades for Dolly, but she (and I love all three of them) just knocks my socks off now, especially how well she still sings. Peace, Love!
Emmylou is wonderful by herself but she is one of those singers that shines when she is harmonizing with someone else.
These ladies (Trio) singing After The Goldrush! Knock out, stunning, beautiful…. My god, I can’t tell you how much I love it. The arrangement and the way their voices compliment is unmatched 👑👑👑
These are three women who travelled the miles, did the work and earned the right to 3 of the greatest artists of all time!
Love all three of these women, individually and collectively❣️ regarding Linda's versatility, you have to check out her singing torch songs with the Nelson riddle orchestra. Another amazing accomplishment
I have a couple of those albums. Also Linda in The Pirates of Penzance singing soprano. Lovely.
Great intro to Trio! You have to hear their cover of Neil Young’s “After The Gold Rush.”
Thanks for mentioning the album Prisoner in Disguise. It's full of gems. Please, Jay and Amber, please give a listen to the song Prisoner in Disguise
I recommed everything they recorded together: Telling Me Lies, Wildflowers, My Blue Tears, After the Goldrush, Oh, the Pain of Loving You,,,,,,,,
Everything on the first Trio album was great. Those ladies had beautiful voices and could harmonize!
This song is about a mother who died of heartache when her son as in prison and she could not help hm.
They were such a great trio. One of my favorites that they sang together is "High Sierra". Their harmony in that, will blow you away!
Linda can sing any genre, and she did!
I’m telling you, Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville singing I Don’t Know Much!! 🎶♥️🎶
These 3 ladies are the most pure voices EVER
There are truly no words to explain just how beautiful this song & these voices sound! That’s it ……. no words!
♥️The old white woman
With three ladies with voices like these get together, you KNOW it's going to be great... Glad you reacted to this one. Keep on keepin' on. BCNU...
I randomly discovered this song a few years back and added it to my play list. Nice tight harmonies. Very peaceful song.
I totally agree with you. I have commented this in the past. I love this movie.
YES!!!
Yes! So happy you finally got to hear these amazing women sing together!❤
I remember watching this when it first aired. Must have been around 1976. Dolly had her own syndicated show back then. Really enjoyed your reaction.
These three ladies' voices can lift you up to a higher plane. Angelic!
Three legends
Three beautiful voices
Not one ego among them
And, all good, caring friends too. Harmony from the heavens.
Check out their song High Sierra. Chills!!!
This is from Dolly's show from 1976-1977. They performed several songs on the show.
The Sweetest Gift was on Linda's Prisoner in Disguise album with Emmylou doing background vocals. Also on that album Linda recorded her version of I Will Always Love You written by Dolly Parton.
The three sirens of folk and country music. Just amazing vocals from all three.
I’m so excited for this one. Every single song they’ve done together is absolute perfection!!!
