In case anyone brings it up again, I *did* watch the second half of episode 220 -- I just didn't think it was substantial enough to explicitly mention.
When can we expect the Shippuden video?
lol in like six months when I finally finish the damn thing
Overall, a pretty fair assessment. It's my favorite anime, but it's far from the best. I give it an 8 out of 10, and on a grading scale, I'd give a B as well. Oh, and just a heads up, avoiding Shippuden filler is going to be hell. I'd recommend Narutopedia for a guide on what is filler and what isn't. I would suggest watching the filler prior to the Pain Arc, just because of narrative consistency within the world of the anime, but after that, the only worthwhile filler are the arcs centering around my man Kakashi's backstory and the filler involving the Otsutsuki, as both of those may or may not be canon, and unlike the Second Chunin Exams filler arc they are genuinely entertaining and serve to create even better world-building than the manga.
to be fair one of the last shots of 220 in og naruto when he looks at his dad's hokage face is referenced in episode 500 of shippuden near the end too...he does the same thing when hes getting married..its a nice touch to have naruto end both series looking at his dad
@@GrexEleven did you like og naruto better than shippuden as a whole?...
"Naruto was before my time" wow that made me feel old
i mean it started in 1999
If you are going to watch Shippuden, all I can say is, please use guide on which episodes are filler, because they just put filler in the middle of actual story arcs.
Already doing exactly that, but thank you!
Hope that Kishimoto learned from his past experience and his next work build upon it
I was born in 2007. And I love it . I re watched Naruto in 2020
I watched Naruto in 2018 and I didn't know it existed before I watched
And now it's my fav
despite how bad and disliked naruto is now, OG Naruto was an overall good show. Too bad Shippuuden ruined everything that made the first series good...
Also, it would be interesting to hear your thoughts about Shippuuden but pls, don't try to watch the fillers this time... it gets even worse
Naruto Shippuden needs the kai treatment ASP!
Naruto isn't necessarily disliked - at least, regarding the canon material.
Looking back Naruto was one of my favourite series of all time. It isn't bad, it is just the pasing and fillers later on. A Kai treatment would indeed do good on the show for people to get into it after so many years.
WickedAnimeTroll To me Shippuden was a good continuation, without filler. If the War Arc was better it would be little bit better than OG Naruto, but I like both OG and Shippuden equally
@@comic2525 War arc still doesn’t do it for me and the only good arc in Shippuden is the Pain arc
'How many people are going to start watching Naruto in this day and age. Only the crazy ones' Guess I'm crazy cause I've seen all 720 Naruto and Naruto Shippuden Episodes plus all the movies and I only started watching it last year.
Yes, I would say even crazier than me.
Smokey Smoke me too. Wtf
I have finished it in 3 months
I love Naruto so much. I was entertained until I realized sasuke was never coming back and the show was never ending. That's about when I quit. I got through all of Naruto and 100 or so eps of shippuden. I'd love to go back and see the Naruto vs sasuke fight since it was praised last year by people who were done with or didn't care for Naruto. It also ended so.... that was always my plan if it ended and I guess it worked out. Now I just have to watch it. I did actually rewatch early Naruto but into the chuunin exams. It was still entertaining. Good kid stuff. i'm glad you liked naruto. i don't think you're as weird as you think. i did the same a few years back. i guess the series is more daunting now with more episodes, but even so, i still watched through quite a bit of it. (though i was in middle school at the time and had nothing to do, but watch anime. that might have played a big role in my wasting so many hours on naruto.)
Fullmoon Phantom1412
If you go back to it just skip the fillers
sheikh abou will do. I want to get through it. I might go back for the fillers later when I know the story. I don't mind fillers when they're good or there's a point. If it's just nonsense though I'll quit.
Fullmoon Phantom1412
You don't need to go back to the fillers they're not good
sheikh abou thanks for telling me, but I prefer making my own judgments on shows. I don't always agree with the majority.
The original nartuo was always gonna be in my heart as a early anime watcher. Hell I still remember Toonami airing brand new dub episodes two times in a row every Saturday after bobobo. However I think the show would of been so strong had it been that it ended after Saske recovery mission. Also Shippuden....please search up a wiki to know which episodes to watch because the fillers....oh my god.
OG Naruto will always be the best out this franchise, Shippuden was a fucking mess that ruined so much of what Part 1 set in, and Boruto is just plain disgraceful and unappealing, I don't even acknowledge it as being part of the series.
Facts
Mecks089 Agree
It's funny when people talk about fillers cause I didn't know what they were until reaching episode ~120 of naruto shippuden (around march or april of last year) Until that point I had watched all the fillers from naruto and some from shippuden with no a care in the world that they were filler. although in hindsight, looking back at those episodes, it made sense why the story progression halted and naruto and gang took some weird, random missions.
you forgot to talk about the last episode (220) this is where naruto goes to train with jiraya and the series properly ends.
Great Video! I hope you decide to continue with naruto shippuden, and give us another amazing video. With your nostalgia free point of view.
I watched the whole Naruto base thing 3 years ago, BUT i informed myself and skipped all of the filler and only watched the meat of the series and i have to say it was pretty enjoyable. Sure no masterpiece but quite decent shonen material. Some time later i plan to do the same for the rest of Naruto.

Read the manga for the final arc
sheikh abou If you’re referring to Ch. 663-700 of the manga, I would actually recommend the anime instead. Definitely skip the Infinite Tsukuyomi and Itachi Shinden filler arcs, but other than that, the anime is actually kinda better. It has crucial story material that was never in the manga, allowing the Otsutsuki to feel like genuine characters, and I think we can all agree the final showdown between Naruto and Sasuke, in its anime form, is the single greatest fight of 2016, period.
Naruto my own of the favourite anime
Yo that was a great video keep up the good work 👍
I'll be waiting for that Shippuden review XD
Nice video, really enjoyed it :)
This deserves more views, made me want to go back and watch Naruto after remembering little details
I watched Naruto on TV when i was 12 and they only aired it to the end of Sasuke recovery mission arc. And that's all i know about the show. I only heard about it on the internet later on but to lazy to watch it by myself online, but the thought of watching it is still in the back of my mind. Thank to your video, now i dont have to doubt about watching more Naruto, since im an adult now and the show turned to be kinda shit. Even in shippuden i heard some cool things happened but still Enot interest me enough. Great video, finally a Naruto video i can relate to.
I was a Dragon Ball Z fan and I hated on Naruto at first, but when I watched it I became a instant fan
You and i had the same experience for Naruto all i use to see during its run was sasuke purple and naruto yellow
And dudes having tobi mask as their facebook picture
0:53 "In this day and age, no one just goes and watches ̶N̶a̶r̶u̶t̶o̶ anime"
Yup. That's totally what I'm doing. Just listening to reviews of shows I didn't even watch...
Dude, I started watching Naruto in 2020. And I watched Shippudden before the original, hahaha. Loved them both though... especially Shippudden.
The author can’t write women.
Like he can only write them when they have a powerful backstory (Tsunade). But when they gotta mature, they’re left behind (SAKURA, Ino, Hinata, T E N T E N)
And like, that’s annoying.
Grex can you do manga reviews/impressions if possible?
I've considered it, but I don't read much manga, and I'd have to be much more creative to make a visually appealing video. Maybe one day.
Grex If you do go into manga and plan to continue Naruto, I would actually suggest reading the Naruto manga rather than the anime. Overall, it has better quality, and the story is far tighter.
"Well in this day, no one just goes and watched naruto" I sorta watched it like half a year ago cuz I was bored?
When you watch Shippuden please use a filler guide.
But I really don't know if you could handle the final arc starting at Ep. 255 or so.
Even with a guide, the canon had just been so watered down in quality.
The manga maybe the best option, but keep in mind that it is very inconsistent no matter how you experience it.
Overall you probably won't enjoy Shippuden very much if you are looking for more of the strengths of the original to be further enhanced.
I like naruto. I might go back and watch it again.
Why does no one ever bring up the fact that Sasuke even with the curse mark should not be in the same range of power as Naruto using one tail?
carlos anthony
Naruto was able to defeat Gaara with the full 1 Tail beast summoned with out using Kurama
Because we're too used to Sasuke being the show's Marty Stu.
Gemnist
Gary Stu*
Ibrahim Hassan Both mean the same thing.
I doubt the fight was unrealistic power-levels wise. . From what I remember from that long time ago (8 years or so) when watching the fight at the Valley of the End, Sasuke's Curse Mark power level wasn't really set in stone. He was known to be quite Powerful with the Curse Mark I (especially as it was the strongest of the marks Orochimaru could bestow on anyone), although he noticed it was slowly corrupting him and wanted to avoid that.
In the beginning, Naruto tried fighting Sasuke using tactics, but was getting beat down pretty well by Sasuke, considering Naruto's a dolt and doesn't have much experience or training being clever (sneaky? sure, but in a dumb way - no good for battle).
Then Naruto gets mad, and goes all foxy, and becomes too fast and strong for Sasuke to handle - at least until Sasuke develops his 3 tomoe Sharingan, and starts being able to see and push back against Naruto, still conserving his power at that point.
Then Naruto gets consumed by the fox, and develops the one-tailed chakra layer around him. His strength and speed shoot through the roof, and he starts beating down on Sasuke. The latter is forced to go into Curse Mark I, but even that isn't enough to stop Naruto, so he practically pulls the nuclear option and goes for the Curse Mark II. Sasuke immediately quips that it's draining his energy fast, and the two basically don't fight anymore - they both charge up their final attacks, and jump at each other.
I bet that, had the fight continued for a few minutes more, Sasuke would be drained from the Curse Mark II, and pass out. Naruto might or might not have done the same, but it wouldn't matter - the fight would have been won.
Sasuke was right - Naruto WAS stronger than him. Sasuke was lucky to have won that fight, sure. But was he supposed to be so weak in power he wouldn't even be in the same range as Naruto? I've never watched Shippuden, so I can't say for sure, but based on what happened up to that point - no, those two were almost equally matched.
The show is really about a stupid orange ninja and his really cool friends. A lot of Naruto fans like the characters outside of Naruto.
Actually, I started anime in 2014, and Naruto was my Naruto, believe it or not. Also Attack on Titan, but I digress. I would actually recommend people to watch it first among the Big Three shonen, or at least read the manga to avoid filler. That’s because unlike One Piece, it’s a concise story without too many tangents, and unlike Bleach, the manga doesn’t shoot itself in the face and the anime is a full adaptation. Also, October 10th is Naruto’s birthday - YAY!
Gemnist One Piece was my Naruto starting around 2011 with the Funimation Dub. Though due to the anime's decline in overall quality, I mostly just read the manga instead.
Yeah, I would also read the One Piece manga - INFINITELY better pacing.
One piece is better than Naruto
Ibrahim Hassan I never mentioned which series is better. I'm just saying that Naruto is the easiest to access first, since it's a flowing story rather than a series of arcs like the other Big Three. That's only one factor out of many in terms of quality, and I'd still recommend all of them.
Gemnist
One piece is following story too but the story isn’t as bland as Naruto one which you can identify easily. Each main character got his own interesting and unique story like ace for example ( im not going to spoil you). The arcs is just them being introduced to a different setting and having to deal with it.
Naruto is full of great moments and all as a kid...(Its not good guys) but seeing someone talk about the entire show with no nostalgia for it is really good. You should do Shippuden or Bleach if your up to it.
madworld06 Naruto is a great series lol its the first ever manga to win a award in America and is responsible for people not americanizing every anime after it because of it's successe.
BurningBijuu108 if Naruto is bad i can't even imagine what tf Boruto is?
Naruto as a whole is way better than most shonen with the exception of one piece.
pretty solid all the way to it's final arc which the writer had no idea how to write in.
but Boruto aswell has been a solid series with a promised Quality arc beginning in January.
unpopular opinion: I think the chunin exams arc is boring (at least until the rock lee and gaara fight)
Can you do an impression of shippuden when you finish the Pain arc? It's around 170 eps into the show. After that we just get the build up for the loaded ass and boring war.
Naruto should have ended with the Pain Arc, everything after it felt just like milking
WickedAnimeTroll It's kinda like bleach with the end of arrancar saga there were other plot points that needed to be covered. Even though I agree that war arc is completely and utter trash but I feel like final arc should've been something else besides a war. While in the case of Bleach Kubo should've just tied up everything with Aizen because Juha and the strenniter were just Aizen and The Arrangars.
A war of 5 great villages vs 2/3 men is the most retarded shit in the history of fiction, especially considering that most ninjas were standing by in the background most of the time just watching few Konoha ninjas do all the fighting in the final battle
my favourite arc is actually the land of waves...
The problem with the Sasuke retrieval arc was the lack of character deaths.
Also what we're your top 3 fights in part 1?
Besides jojo and Fist are any shonen with major character deaths? Because even in hxh most of the death are by characters that I don't care for with the exception of 1.
crzyboy190
Akame ga Kill and Deadman Wonderland are Shonens with major characters dying but none of them is any good
sheikh abou In both of those series the death were there for shock factor and edge.
Seriously? All of the bad guys except Sasuke died.
In case Grex doesn't answer, my top fights are Lee vs. Gaara, Naruto vs. Gaara, and Naruto vs. Sasuke. As for major character deaths, Attack on Titan is a shonen so... yeah. Also, Shippuden does have two resurrection scenes (War Reanimation doesn't count), but there the deaths that truly matter are played far more poignantly, especially in the case of J and I.
Grex watch "true tears" since you like tsuki ga kirei
I actually hated this as a child but I like Naruto now
The viz subs are similar to the issue I had with earlier volumes of the English One Piece manga translation, though it greatly improved over time, especially now with the official Weekly Shonen Jump translations from Volumes 66-onward!
'no one just watches naruto' 😬😬😬 ive been watching since this summer lmaoo
You should watch episode 220 (Second Half).
It contains the last bit of canon before Shippuden begins.
OG naruto is great imo
Did you ever finish Shippuden? XD!
I have watched every single episode and it's an overall amazing anime. Please review naruto ship. If you dislike filler maybe use a guide of some sort.
Rock Lee gara is like still my favourite Naruto fight
If u do the same for shippuden, dont review filler exept the good ones: 3 tails arc, the Kaguya filler arc and some others.
100th like c:
Complaining about fillers in Naruto? you should really watch Shippuuden *You'll pull your eyes out*
At 12:08 you are on to something about Shippuden
The original Naruto was overall amazing on it's premise and most of it's characters had depth, until the issues you mentioned come in and it seems like, Shippuden just embraced said problems and even created new ones, like the overall growth of the power scaling, and just too many uninteresting characters got introduced just for the sake of it.
Also i was never expecting a shout out in a million years by any means, but i appreciate it anyways.
For those who have never seen Naruto, there is a fan edit called Naruto Kai and it is great! www.reddit.com/r/Naruto/comments/91wdjv/naruto_kai_ultimate_subbed_edition/
omg 2:05 akeboshi wind
By the way, could you tell us why you didn't like Neon Genesis Evangelion?
I know this is a controversial request, but i'd like to know about it merely because of pure curiosity.
Where did I say I don't like Evangelion?
twitter.com/GrexEleven/status/893303888165646340
I might have not given the right kind of question, but why is it the case of it? Don't need to answer if you don't want to.
Ahh, I see. "Love" is the keyword here. I do _like_ Eva, but the people that *_love_* the series talk like it was the most impactful, transcendent thing in the world, and it sounds like such a powerful experience that I wish I could have had it for myself. But alas, I only "like" Eva. I don't "love" it.
I totally see where you're coming from, do you plan on reviewing it? If not i don't really mind it, do what you can at the best you can.
Also i noticed a bit of a format change on your reviews so i thought it was worth mentioning as well, such as the removal of separate sections like the "good" "bad" and so on.
Probably not anytime soon. Eva has been covered by so many people in so many ways, and I don't think I have anything significant to add at the moment.
The rigid "good" and "bad" structure was getting a bit restricting and convoluted. A freeform video with no predefined boundaries gives me more room to approach each show however I see fit.
just my opinion filler may not be perfect and some of the filler are... what did i just watch but i like that it gave more time to other characters. also i just recently re watched naruto fillers and all :)
Shippuuden has all the character death you could want.
Well, at least the openings stay great.
If you do shippuden, stop at the war arc and do a video just on the war arc
You gave up on the last bit of filler that was actually worth anyone's time. Since it expands a bit more on the seven mist ninja that pop back up later.
and the best filler episode is shino laughs, purely for the cringy, mindless humour.
Before consuming Naruto I was in basically the same position as you, but instead of watching it, I read the manga. And I has a somewhat similar experience.
The biggest difference between the anime and the manga is that in the manga, it's almost impossible to tell what's going on during any fight scene. Look Kishimoto is not a bad artist but his panelling is just awful, i remember multiple points in the series where I found panels or even entire pages where I spent minutes on end trying to figure out what I was looking at, then eventually giving up and turning the page because I just couldn't wrap my head around it. Orochimaru Vs the 3rd Hokage and the minion fights from the Sasuke Retrieval arc come to mind as prominent examples.
I kind of want to go back and watch the anime's fights now purely so I can get a full grasp of the scene, because some of the shots you showed of the Sasuke VS Naruto fight in the end of the series looked really well done, and I didn't really get that sense from the manga
"80 episodes of filler" lolololol
Meh the pacing and the filler was kind of on you. You should have just read the Manga
When i think Naruto i think filler hell. And thats why I'll never watch it.
You could read it ;)
Gemnist that's a lot to read. 70+ volumes. Watching a story is much easier than reading it for me.
Why can't you Just skip the filler
ThisisMy Username the point is it shouldn't be there in the first place.
Chandler Ingram Would you rather have it go on Hiatus and for it to be forgotten? I don’t like filler but I mean if they catch up to the manga, what else are they going to do?
