- This video shows you how to shut off the water to your hot water heater. This is particularly helpful if you are experiencing an active leak on your hot water lines only. Once you shut the water supply off to the water heater, you will be able to turn the water back on to your house to still have cold water.
Thank you SOOO much for this video. I located the lever but wasn’t sure which way to turn it off because it’s high up in a dark closet. I finally stuck my iPhone camera with the flash on up there and figured out which way to turn it and gave it a hefty push and now I can sleep tonight!

Thank you very much. I did what u said and I began to hear water heater slowly stop. I feel safe tonight. I had called a company here in Maryland Len the plumber at 3:46pm on today 12/21/22. They gave me a window between 4pm -8pm, at 7:30 the tech texted me to say he was not coming. By now I have water all over my basement and hot water tank was still leaking. However, I found ur channel . 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌 I have some relief until tomorrow to get a new tank. Keep on, keeping on … u were straight to the point. 😊 peace and joy
You should know how to shut down water, power, and gas in your home. Take the time to learn BEFORE letting your home flood or burn while you stand around is really on YOU. That said, they should have done the service call as expected and at least shut it down or told you how.
This has performed exactly as desired ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx8G49mV71sAzUl9shXyLW-r3XgHH9EVh1 . Basically, instant hot water instead of waiting up to two minutes as it was before. I have had this installed almost exactly one year now and just replaced the anode which is pictured. I pulled it out at six months and cleaned the heating element and removed debris. I would recommend a cleaning every six months and an anode replacement yearly. A mild citric acid and water solution soak really helps clean the heating element and tank. It must be fully disassembled to do the cleaning and that is not difficult but could have been made easier with a couple of design changes but no big deal.

Thank you for thos tip. We have a hot water leak and we were freaking out because we had to shut water off etc. Thos way we have water to flush and drink etc. Until we get the leak fixed which can't be for a week. Its a pain in the butt but at least we have running water. Thank you for this

To get water into the house for the meantime do I need to connect the street side water to the hot water connection, I know I won't have hot just need water in the house until I get a new water heater

What if the valve doesn't work, it's old or stripped. Is there something you can put on the end of the pipe to shut it down, so I can turn my water on while waiting for new hot water heater.

Don't know if you'll see this, but what if I just turn off that cold shut off without first turning off the whole house? I don't know how to turn off the whole house. Hey there - Yes you can turn off the shut off on the cold water feed to the water heater to turn off the hot water to fixtures past the water heater. That way you can still leave the water on to your house, still have cold water, but you just would not have hot water throughout the house until you turned the water supply back on to the water heater. @@maiplumbing653 Thank you for your reply. My future son-in-law told me that I needed to turn off the water heater first before turning the water supply off. I couldn't figure out how to do that, though. He said if I left the water heater on and turned off the supply to it, the water heater would eventually blow up. Anyway, he was able to come fix the leak for me today, so that's good.
Hello I have a question? So I turned off the cold water line to the boiler but I noticed the shower doesn’t work. Could you explain in detail why that is.
Hi there - Yes if your shower is a one handle fixture it is pressure controlled. If you shut off the hot water, the pressure in the hot lines also subsides to that fixture coming from the hot water lines, therefore it will cause your one handle, pressure controlled fixtures to not work. For a one handle pressure controlled fixture to work it must have both hot and cold water lines feeding it. But if you have 2 handle fixtures (fixtures that have separate cold and hot handles) you should still be able to use the cold side even with the hot water turned off. I hope this makes sense!

What if I shut off the main valve to the house, the main valve to the water heater and water is still flowing out of the bottom of the Water heater through the drain (After draining at least 10 5 Gallon buckets) Where is the water coming from? I can't go to bed until I know it will stop or my basement will flood,

@@oflux8020 I had to stay up all night until all the water from all the pipes and the water heater drained out. BTW it was a bad relief valve. Ultimately I ended up replacing the water heater. Good Luck.
Question though. Do we need to shut off the gas feeding the heater or not worry bout it?
