There is a book by Albert goldman about John lennons life. The last few years he was clean and almost manic about cleanliness. He was probably in the best health of his adult life.
Probably one of the few lies by Goldman. The photographs speak for themselves: he's thin as a skeleton, sickly pale skin and his nose is collapsed on itself. No one knows for sure what was wrong because Ono had him cremated the next day.
I would strongly dispute that he quit smoking before his death. John as known to smoke Gitane's. @@michaelrokohl3220 Not a fat period at all-Lennon just thought that as he had lack of self esteem because of his issues. The self image of himself was not normal as it should have been & if he did have an eating disorder, that contributed to his perceptions of being fat
He said himself that he had abused drugs all his life since he was a teenager. Maybe he was clean the last couple of years, but before that it was like 20 years of abuse, you can´t erase that.
Abuse doesn't cause that and he obviously never abused that much otherwise he would not of been able to do all he did. You obviously don't know about real abuse. It's simply stress, stress is the biggest aging thing out there
@@dondamon4669 Excessive drug/alcohol use whether an addict or not will age a person, especially a female, & will take a toll on your body. Then if you don’t have lucky genes when it comes to your appearance in aging, you’re even worse off. He blew out his septum snorting all that coke and was scheduled for surgery to repair it. He had eating disorders and addictions and kept trying and failing to take care of himself. I don't think he was long for this world.
His best singing voice was when he was so called fat- pre 1967, but it was really a healthy weight. He had too many years of heavy drug usage, drinking and lack of proper diet , IMO, Which took its toll. Yoko was of no help to him even though he thought otherwise
He never stopped smoking, actually he smoked awful strong gitanes cigarettes, you can see the package next to him in several of his December pictures, for example, during his last radio interview
How did a good looking guy like John get so completely hideous in such a short period of time. By 1968, his mirror-shattering appearance was shocking. Illicit drugs to cope with the fame must have played a role in this.
Lennon looked his Best during India/white album👍🏻💯 then shortly the heroin look took over. But his weight fluctuated through his life. I wouldn't go far and say John was fat, he looked bloated in his face, maybe a little plumped but not fat like a dad b0d? I've read that he was still using drugs, maybe some heroin, coke, the last year of his life, not as much as he use to. And he was still smoking. But I don't know if that's all true. It's sad he's gone though 🙏🏻 I love the Beatles my favourite band.
Many have always suspected she had something to do with this as she never played the widow game well or should it be said not at all, having Havedtoy move in to the Dakota rather quickly after Lennon’s murder
People, especially newspaper editors who tell reporters what to write, are really mean to each other and then people are nice in Emergencies like 9/11.
I've always thought that Lennon looked gaunt when he resurfaced in 1980. Compare John at 40, and Paul at 40, and Paul pretty much still looked like Paul1964; John a walking cadaver.
I read in a book that when they did the autopsy he was not in good shape. Too much fasting, Dieting and drugs. Sadly not in good shape. I think that he ran dry on songs partly because he changed his mind with all the LSD, etc. The two...Paul and John turned down take music lessons as they felt it could damage the natural magic. Then John takes too much acid, etc. So he broke the code in a sense. He told Yoko once that he lost the muse to write great songs. Well if you didn't want to crush that with music theory then why did you think it was OK to abuse your body and mind so much? Emotion over logic. Still love him so. He gave enough.
In one of John & Yoko's books before his death, Lennon claimed to have suffered with anorexia Nervosa most of his life. He became very thin when he moved to the Dakota.
I was always struck by how gaunt and skinny he looked, and he wasn't even 40 years old, and the other thing was his voice, which was nowhere near what it once was when he was a member of The Beatles.
He looked best with shorter hair before the first American tour, when he looked more like a squirrel. When he moved in with Yoko, he got into heroin, possibly around the time of the Get Back movie.
Watcg Get Back by Peter Jackson. John was thin and looked fragile. Observe how strong was Paul. He climbed the toppest part of the roof all by himself. Same with Ringo.
Lennon was a vegetarian. Even in the early Beatles days. A health food enthusiast. With Yoko Ono he was on a macrobiotic diet. Something I know a little about. Back in the day, I sometimes ate at a health food restaurant in Shibuya Tokyo that he frequented. From what I've heard he had given up the drugs, though that is hard to verify. The anorexia talk is from the Goldman book. The guy who discovered that there was a market for dirt on Lennon. No sense of proportion or fairness, and likely bogus.
@@manny4552 I am not sure how much time Lennon spent in Japan, but he wouldn't have had access to drugs. Japan is very strict when it comes to that, as McCartney discovered on a trip there. An addict would be cold turkey in a matter of days. Not a prime destination for addicts.
@@manny4552 In recent years, the trash Lennon movement has gathered even more steam. Reporters fish for dirt on him anytime anybody connected with the Beatles grants interviews. And the sad thing is how those closest to him fall into this trap. In trying to please the interviewers, they unconsciously feed a narrative that is totally unfair to the man. Far worse is social media. Especially from the Macca cultists who tear him down in trying to elevate McCartney.
Lennon ended up with a haircut getting his bangs back in the midst of The Lost Weekend improving his looks dramatically from that long parted down the middle do. Thought all those pictures looked better than the photo shoot of his pictures before he was murdered. Some of his pictures were nice but he didn’t look right in the face.
John at 40 does look older than his age. I wonder if he wasn’t murdered that day, would he have made it to old age? Given his physicality and the doctor saying he had the body of a 60yr old, it is unlikely he would’ve have had much longer to live anyway.
He was healthy towards the end; he just needed to put on a stone,,,,,he should have stopped smoking,,,but he was eating healthier...and had a positive outlook,,,,,,
I've always felt John between 1974 to 76 looked great. Before the Dieting. 1980 he was alittle to thin. Some pictures he looked good clean Shaven shorter hair. His last photo shot he looked Ok.
I never pondered as to how long any of The Beatles would actually live but was quite surprised John & George died prematurely. We always thought of all The Beatles lasting forever
Here is what I know. The first few years, 1962-64 ,the Beatles did not not use drugs at all, although they smoked like most people in Europe at the time, and drank some. In late 64 or early 65, they were introduced to Marijuana by Bob Dylan during a tour in the US. By the time of Rubber Soul, they were smoking it pretty heavily. In 1966, they were introduced to LSD during another tour, at Peter Fonda's house, though Paul did not take it until much later. Mid 1967 was when John and George begin to use a variety of drugs pretty heavily. By the beginning of 1968, there was less LSD for John, but somewhere in mid or late 1968, James Taylor, whom was discovered by the Beatles, in particular, George Harrison, introduced John to heroin. James Taylor himself spent two years recovering in a sanitarium. John might have never injected heroin, but he certainly ate it with Yoko Ono and probably sniffed it. Then the Beatles broke up and began their solo careers. John and Yoko went into rehab for heoin in 1974, John had a relapse but kicked it for good in 1976. John was separated from Yoko during this time and was on the West Coast drinking heavily and making mediocre records. He looked terrible during this period. But somewhere around 1976-1977, he sort of found himself, got off drugs, and Paul McCartney helped John and Yoko get back together. Search for a video on UA-cam titled, 'John Finds Himself in Bermuda.' After being a house husband for a while, he got back in the studio and made his final completed album, 'Double Fantasy.' It was a smash hit with beautiful tunes, and John seemed like he was becoming his old, pre-drug self again. He looked much better although he was thin, I believe in part because Yoko put him on a strict diet. What I don't know is the last 7 months of his life after 'Double Fantasy was released. He might have started doing some drinking with buddies in New York, but he was working on a new album, which was released in a semi-finished state after his death and had a couple of hits off it.
The Beatles took plenty of uppers & downers during their grueling early days in Hamburg stints in order to be able to perform on stage for long periods of time & then to be able to sleep. I’ve never heard Jame’s Taylor introduced Lennon to heroin as it’s thought per other sources Ono was the one who introduced it to him. How was McCartney instrumental in getting Lennon back w/Ono? I thought I do remember reading Ono made a plea to McCartney in helping to get him to come back home but it was said she told John on the phone something to the effect of, come back home to try this method I’ve found in order to quit smoking. I believe Lennon & Ono still had problems in their marriage until the end despite the songs Lennon wrote on Double Fantasy & what a title I must say-Double Fantasy. I did enjoy the music on that album. Don’t think Lennon’s music was mediocre during The Lost Weekend. I agree with the consensus that it was his most productive period. All the other albums were collaborations with Ono although what appeared to be independently his songs as many were unaware the albums were collaborations, were really good especially Imagine
@JRusk56 Almost everything you have said, except Beatles being turned on to cannabis by Dylan & quickly becoming regular users, and John drinking heavily during the spring 1973 to January 1975 May Pang “lost weekend”, is erroneous. John, Paul and George all started on alcohol and nicotine by the age of 15 and preluden- a german amphetamine, in Hamburg in 1960, they added tranquillisers and barbiturates to sleep soon after, and they turned Epstein on to downers & uppers in 1962 and continued using all these pills thru the 60s, minus the meditation retreat in India. Harrison & Lennon first had LSD in spring 1965. It was Ringo who first dropped acid with a group that included Peter Fonda in summer 1965. McCartney’s first acid trip was in December 1965 with his friend Tara “a day in the life” Browne. It was Yoko Ono in spring 1968 who introduced John to and hooked him on heroin, not James Taylor who used it with John while he was recording his debut album for Apple in summer 1968. John went back to Yoko in January 1975 after being separated since spring 1973- the “lost weekend” that was demonstrable his most productive period after leaving the Beatles, he appeared physically healthy during that time and was mentally healthy enuf to renewed his relationships his eldest son Julian and Paul during those months. The photographic evidence of how emaciated & ill John looked in 1979 & 80 is literally in front of people's eyes. Double Fantasy was poorly received in the weeks after its release and only started selling well when John was killed. People involved in the recording of it and what became Milk and Honey stated there was a lot of cocaine use during the sessions, and its rumoured that when he died John was scheduled for an operation to repair a hole in the septum of his nose caused by excessive snorting of substances. All of this information & dates are readily checkable on a dozen Beatles fan sites, I have no idea why you would comment so much info you haven't fact checked.
They were on a constant diet of "speed" and alcohol in Hamburg starting in 1960. They were having so much unprotected sex with the "working girls" there that they all had terrible V.D. that wouldn't clear up bc the booze and speed stopped the antibiotics from working.Their manager had to take them to a specialist to cure them when they returned to Liverpool ,these guys were never choirboys .
There were reports just before and after his assassination that he had cancer. One of the reasons he had quit smoking. Only Yoko and his physicians probably know.
He was trying to be healthy. He did Yoga, and had a diet. He did had problems that most did not know. It was revealed recently that near the end of his life (before working on his last album) that a terrorist group tried to get money off him and threatening him and his family. FBI was involved. Also imagine getting back into making music again, the stress on thinking that nobody would like his new material.
Nobody ever talks about John's tobacco consumption. John smoked Gauloises, the French cigarette brand, and had probably smoked them since he was a teenager and took a trip to Paris, (with Paul, George and Stu). Gauloises are VERY high-tar. So that's roughly about 25 years, smoking one of the most high-tar cigarette brands in existence. So could he have been in the early stages of cancer ? It's certainly a possibility.
That's because whoever did the lighting in that film did a great job in hiding it except when he sings You've got to Hide Your Love Away. In that sequence there's a very brief moment when his face is more towards the camera and suddenly he looks as if he's put on weight.
mmm ... this video is a bit all over the place! It needs to be considered that John and Ringo were the married one and they body weight was the result of having someone who cooks for you. John was fond of bacon butties with chips and sleeping, a very good combination of fats and laziness. Definitely they didn't get fat while on tour! You need to consider that stress causes weight loss; only in the case of eating disorder it causes obesity and that's not the case of John Lennon. Also, George Martin didn't "find John on the roof"; he took him up there. We all know that! How can you make such a mistake?
Just goes to show what good strict hygiene, traditional manners, and ones obedient and unwavering respect for his elders can do. "A NATION ONCE AGAIN! A NATION ONCE AGAIN!"
I think John looked so handsome a little chubby!!! It was when he started to use hard drugs and lost so much weight,,that he did not look handsome anymore. But,,before he died,,he looked alright. I mean he was cleaned up of drugs..had stopped smoking, too!! John looked great in the early Beatles!! He was never overweight. I think it was in his mind!! He looked truly handsome a little chubbier!!!
Well, the further weight loss before his death that the narrator talked about was not an indication he was leading a healthier life style. That macrobiotic diet was a fad & is criticized for not providing all the proper nutrition & who knows if he was taking vitamin/mineral supplements. The perception he had of himself as fat is exaggerated-he may have been a bit overweight at some point but he would have been bigger as the camera puts on at least 10 pounds. His lack of self esteem prompted him to think he was fat. I though he looked healthy prior to 1969 & sickly afterwards. There were some photos of him that looked good before his murder but over all, I did not think he looked good.
Like you really need to make a video asking that! this dude went through the 60s 70s and made it into the 80s with all the recreational delights on offer and he took full advantage.....
It doesn't look like the John from early in in the Beatles because it wasn't, there were a few different people playing the character John Lennon, just like how there was more than one Paul, according to the mainstream narrative earlier the evening he was shot, John offered one of the autograph seekers a cigarette, so obviously he didn't quit, if anyone was shot it was a double, one if the John Lennons became Steve Jobs. That's why Apple Corps didn't sue Apple Computers, there's an interview where they said that Apple is branching out into electronics and telecom. That's why they used the name Steve Jobs for the cpu company that the logo is a bitten apple biblical reference, the Book of Job in the bible, that's why Steve wore a unifor of the same outfit everywhere he went for years, he was a character, they killed him off when his job was finished and the Iphone debuted, that was their tool to push the Babylonian one world order and mark of the beast to usher in the end times. The Beatles were created by Tavistock to destabilize and demoralize society.
Where are the substantiations to all of this where the stories about all this can be verified? Or let’s just say believable via how much one believes & trusts the given sources
John was neurotic. When you look at fat people these days John was not fat... a little plump maybe. The drinking + smoking + drugs were getting to him near the end... but when you talk about rock stars, look at David Crosby... now that's fat. John was nothing compared to Crosby.
I always believed that fat John Lennon left The Beatles in 1966 and was replaced by the glasses wearing thin John Lennon. The John Lennon on Rubber Soul and Revolver never married Yoko. I also wondered if the fat John Lennon ever met the thin glasses wearing John Lennon.
I didn't think he looked unwell in 1980. I thought he looked well. He was slim, but not thin. I think he looked healthy & happy. I would say it was the early 1970's where he was not looking so good. I am sure he would have been fine. He was a very intelligent man. I think he would have looked after himself. He was just literally just 'Starting Over', when some loser came long and stole his life. I regret what he and all the rest of us missed out on. A genius.
@@ivanconnolly7332 Look at the pictures taken by Japanese photographer, Kishin Shinoyama, who took one of the last pictures of John Lennon, and a whole book full of pictures of John in 1980 including the cover photo's for Double Fantasy. John was slim, but that is all. I don't even know why I watched this click-bait video, let alone comment, but the least of his problems was his weight. If you think that is anorexia, I do not. He ate a low calorie diet on purpose as did George, and Paul and Ringo still do .....because if you have lots of money the last thing you want to die of is obesity... then he got shot. What he ate was carefully planned and part of his macrobiotic diet ... and planning intake is more than most people do.
I don't want to start a any nasty rumors, but the thought had crossed my mind that with Lennon's sexual escapades in the 1970's during his "lost weekend" it also just might have been AIDS.
He drank a bit too much four or five times (two of which were public) while he was May in L.A. He wasn't doing hard drugs. He and Pang spent much more time in NYC, quiet and normal, which doesn't make news. He looked fab in 73-74 (and hung on till '77) but back came the heroin and his miserable life. He did call May in 1980 and told her they were going to see each other soon, but the asshole came sooner.
He was at his thinnest near the end of his life, but that was mainly due to the macrobiotic diet he'd been following. It was probably his most peaceful, low stress period ever. All he has to do was be a "househusband" and help out with Sean. I don't think his health was particularly bad.

Lennon was devastated by the passing of his best friend and song collaborator. That's why he went into a shell. That should tell you all you need to know about what happened to his best friend.

So called fat period. He looked good. Not fat. Just solid. He looked his best between 64-67.
@@michaelrokohl3220
Not a fat period at all-Lennon just thought that as he had lack of self esteem because of his issues.
It's simply stress, stress is the biggest aging thing out there
People lived long lives on much worse.
@@dondamon4669
Excessive drug/alcohol use whether an addict or not will age a person, especially a female, & will take a toll on your body. Then if you don’t have lucky genes when it comes to your appearance in aging, you’re even worse off. And of course the stressors of life & being addicted to the heroin also produces even more stress than the person would have had in the first place
he’s always been precious. at least in my eyes, that makes me so sad that he thought these things of himself. poor thing.
Smokinh affects weight heavily

No one's perfect! Flaws and all, Beatle John was loved! 😊
P.s he told us, quite bluntly, how he felt. 'I'm a Loser', anyone?
Most pro musicians tend to age slightly faster than average due to living too long in the night
I think yoko was microbioticing him to bump him off
Many have always suspected she had something to do with this as she never played the widow game well or should it be said not at all, having Havedtoy move in to the Dakota rather quickly after Lennon’s murder
At the end of the 60's he wasn't even 30 years old and looked like and old prophet.
I've never thought of John Lennon as a fat man.
And his face & features were no longer handsome besides being too thin. He looked really different/not healthy looking
John was still smoking when he died. But was no longer a heavy drug user.
Heroin damages the body way more than LSD.
Sitting in a room learning arpeggios isn’t as fun as tripping sack and writing Lucy in The Sky with Diamonds
In one of John & Yoko's books before his death, Lennon claimed to have suffered with anorexia Nervosa most of his life. He became very thin when he moved to the Dakota.
Im only sleeping, im only eating
I hated the Goldman Book. He was LOOKING for and THINKING UP dirt on John.
Yeah Goldman was a jerk.. I'll never read that trash
@@manny4552 I am not sure how much time Lennon spent in Japan, but he wouldn't have had access to drugs. Japan is very strict when it comes to that, as McCartney discovered on a trip there. An addict would be cold turkey in a matter of days. Not a prime destination for addicts.
@@Kermit_T_Frog I hear ya... As soon as Lennon died the wolves came out to trash him..
I never thought he was ever fat.
Looked better than he did in 1974-1975
Lennon ended up with a haircut getting his bangs back in the midst of The Lost Weekend improving his looks dramatically from that long parted down the middle do. Thought all those pictures looked better than the photo shoot of his pictures before he was murdered. Some of his pictures were nice but he didn’t look right in the face.
Maybe it was one of his two other Johns
He was very thin
Drugs, probably H. Sad, but whatever the truth , it must come out. No more pretending. And no judging.
His skin was flawless...
John at 40 does look older than his age. I wonder if he wasn’t murdered that day, would he have made it to old age? Given his physicality and the doctor saying he had the body of a 60yr old, it is unlikely he would’ve have had much longer to live anyway.
He was healthy towards the end; he just needed to put on a stone,,,,,he should have stopped smoking,,,but he was eating healthier...and had a positive outlook,,,,,,
I used to eat at the same same health food restaurant that he frequented in Shibuya Tokyo. Never met him, though.
John was so cute
I've always felt John between 1974 to 76 looked great.
Before the Dieting. 1980 he was alittle to thin. Some pictures he looked good clean Shaven shorter hair. His last photo shot he looked Ok.
He looked better in his fat Beatle phase
Amazing how things can be spun
I never felt he would have made it to 80.
I never pondered as to how long any of The Beatles would actually live but was quite surprised John & George died prematurely. We always thought of all The Beatles lasting forever
Not the way he smoked, 67-68 max.
John was anorexic and chain smoked until his dying day. His tox sceen did however show no other drugs in his system than nicotine.
Lost weight too.
There were reports just before and after his assassination that he had cancer. One of the reasons he had quit smoking. Only Yoko and his physicians probably know.
There are many shots of him smoking up to and on the day he died, but yes he may have had cancer.
So what if he was probably on methadone and a diet?
John had that Sankapu look of impending-death in much of 1980…
There is an interview out there where he states he could be assassinated and someone brought it to life
He was trying to be healthy.
"Gitanes" without filter I think, I think, not "Gauloises"
Wow, I relate to his thought process a lot. I never once even contemplated that he looked fat in Help!
He never looked as healthy as Kieth Richards

DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES
I think John looked so handsome a little chubby!!! It was when he started to use hard drugs and lost so much weight,,that he did not look handsome anymore. But,,before he died,,he looked alright. I mean he was cleaned up of drugs..had stopped smoking, too!! John looked great in the early Beatles!! He was never overweight. I think it was in his mind!! He looked truly handsome a little chubbier!!!
Why all you people keep insisting he quit smoking is beyond me, John Lennon smoked like a broke stove until the day he died.
I think Yoko had John on a pro biotic diet
Like you really need to make a video asking that! this dude went through the 60s 70s and made it into the 80s with all the recreational delights on offer and he took full advantage.....
john was fine between 1975-1980
It doesn't look like the John from early in in the Beatles because it wasn't, there were a few different people playing the character John Lennon, just like how there was more than one Paul, according to the mainstream narrative earlier the evening he was shot, John offered one of the autograph seekers a cigarette, so obviously he didn't quit, if anyone was shot it was a double, one if the John Lennons became Steve Jobs.

A genius.
I think your standard of "well "is closer to my standard of anorexia.

He was at his thinnest near the end of his life, but that was mainly due to the macrobiotic diet he'd been following. It was probably his most peaceful, low stress period ever. All he has to do was be a "househusband" and help out with Sean. I don't think his health was particularly bad.

In the Era of Obesity, a thin person is seen as "unhealthy". Funny.
I am an athlete. I am thin but not dried as Lennon. It's a big difference between thin and fit.
His face was gaunt, bags under his eyes-Lennon’s facial features no longer looked handsome. When he had his shades on it still looked like Lennon but a remarkable difference without the shades. So that’s not looking fit despite not being overweight but in my opinion, he was underweight. His body type was not made to be that thin-looked disproportionate. He didn’t look right all the way around
Because he stopped eating sugar, he considered sugar like drug. If you stop sugar you're gonna look like him
Lennon looked so unhealthy during his last year I’m convinced he probably wouldn’t have lived another year. I think he was anorexic.
John lost 20lbs in his last years. He was down to 10 stone. This was through choice. He was on a macro biotic diet.
.....And he was not as tall as the media myth, maybe 5' 9'', so still within healthy weight!
Underweight. Smoking. Strung-out? Stressed. Isolated in an apartment.
Lennon was devastated by the passing of his best friend and song collaborator. That's why he went into a shell.
In the Playboy Jan 1981 article, when asked if the band might ever reunite, he stated "you don't understand, it is physically impossible for the Beatles to ever go on stage together again." That should tell you all you need to know about what happened to his best friend.

Its not hard to determine what that is all about.
I don't know where you get your information from. John Lennon did not look sickly before his death. Is drug use in 1969 has nothing to do with 1980. Get it right or don't get it at all.
That’s your opinion that Lennon didn’t look sickly prior to his death. Others don’t agree & others will agree with you. The only time he looked like himself in the photo shoots before his murder was when he had his shades on. Otherwise, he didn’t look right in the face-old, tired & weathered & that’s separate from being too thin-not right in the face. Drugs/alcohol do affect a person’s appearance-especially a female so where are you getting your information from that drugs/alcohol don’t affect that? The better you take care of yourself in the younger years, the better you will look in your older years. 40 is not old but he looked 55-60
