  • On the evening of December 8, 1980, John Lennon and Yoko Ono stepped out of a limousine by their apartment building. A man pulled out a gun and shot him in cold blood in the vestibule of the building. Police respond to the scene right away. When they saw the amount of blood coming from Lennon's body, they knew they could not wait for an ambulance. They put him in the back of a police car and went directly to the hospital. They also arrested the shooter, Mark David Chapman #InsideEdition

I met John Lennon about 2 months before he was killed. He was in Bermuda and came into my store to have me measure him for a 3 pc suit. We chatted and he was really interesting to talk to. He signed my "MInd Games" album and even explained the graphics. It was so sad when he was shot, he had so much more to give!

It's really sad that he died just when he was beginning to turn his life around and heal from his past traumas and misdeeds. He lived such a crazy life for just 40 years and he should've had much more.

My late husband and I were NYC in 2013, and visited Strawberry Fields. As I was taking pictures, I looked up through the trees, and saw a strange-looking building looming over the park, then it hit me that it was the Dakota. The whole experience was surreal. As anyone who's been to NYC knows, it's overwhelming and you just want to see all of the places you've heard about. Seeing where John lived was at the top of the list. I can't imagine what was going through his mind when that psycho did the unthinkable, and John was so kind to him. He would be amazed at how our society has deteriorated in the last 40 years. And, like someone else said, imagine the music he would have written since his passing. We miss you John,😥🌹

I see Chapman has been denied parole again. Good rot in prison.

I feel for that surgeon. Just imagine everywhere over the next few months to a year, constantly reminding you of your failures.

I feel like nobody talks about how the whole thing must have felt for Yoko, I can imagine it must have really traumatised her. You can say what you want about her, but I applaud her for continuing John’s memory for so long. She’s a very strong women to be able to acknowledge something that awful happened in her past.

Heartbreaking to this day. What a senseless and painful crime. What a loss for the entire world, his loved ones and, especially, his family.

I was walking to High School (we were juniors) with my buddy who was a big JL fan, on the morning of Dec 9th - I remember him being super upset. What is still maddening to this day is that Lennon was courteous to his fans and made time for them and he was repaid with 4 big bullets to his chest.

Tonight many years later watching Get Back, it reminds me of how much joy John brought the music loving world, he was full of fun, always joking, but had serious moments too, I will always be indebted to him and his bandmates for getting me started down a musical path…his spirit truly lives on…
