The text is about the time in Cambridge before the band became big, the time of growing up. As well as in some parts about Syd. The text was written by David and Polly Sampson together. Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪
It was Syd Barrett ex founder and lead vocal and guitarist of Pink Floyd that said in 1967 " what this band needs is a brass section and girl backing singers " lol
@@steviesellers Syd died, but he still with them and they knew it. "I Wish You Were Here", it's for him. David wrote that song for his friend. RIP Syd, 😥❤
This is one, like many of their songs that is on a direct line to the soul. It conjures whatever emotion one has been holding back and lets it breathe.
Great song and reaction. David uses the flat pedal steel also on live ONE OF THESE DAYS and features crazy bass runs. Also try out KEEP TALKING for another nice twist!
Although I only watch your FLOYD video's I have to say they are very enjoyable to watch, seeing you appreciate and comment on the ultimate band that is Pink Floyd is great entertainment in my view :)
Aww thank you glad you enjoyed the floyd reactions , yeah am same when i watch reaction videos , i tend to watch the songs i like to see their reactions to them 😊 this is a song to me i could put on and reminisce to lol
Shaking your head with disbelief? I am. Witnessing utter perfection leaves me in awe. Is this real? It must be or else they do a perfect job making us believe so. To see and hear true magic happen...
It's a Jedson console (or lap) steel guitar. Gilmour kept this red one, sold the other (cream) one in his charity auction a few years back for US$300,000.
Officially that is called a "Lap Steel Guitar". This song is one of the first songs written after Roger Waters left the band. It was written by David Gilmour & the lyrics were written by his wife, Polly. In an interview, D.G. said "it's open to interpretation, but for him it's about the early days of the band." IMO, the best version of this song was done in Pompeii in 2016 when David was 70 years old. It's extended and has 2 acoustic guitar solos and a longer lap steel solo.
@Bob Kupi - actually, this was released 9 years after Roger left and was the last song on the second album without Roger. Most fans consider this the last true Pink Floyd song.
It's not one of the first song written after Rodger Waters left they had several albums before that song was ever written after Roger Waters left one of them being momentary lapse of reason
This song is from their second studio album "The Division Bell". The first studio album after Waters left is "Momentary Lapse of Reason". Their last studio album "The Endless River" was released in 2014. They had many live albums between these.
Hey JB - I was enjoying your recent reactions and I forgot to congratulate you on reaching ONE THOUSAND subscribers! Hours and hours of editing your videos, combined with your genuine reactions, have combined in a positive way. Looking forward to your coming reactions.
They are matey has iv recently found out , some of their performances iv seen now are breath taking really are . Thank you really love that you enjoyed it bud 😊
@@jbreacts they are like a drug too me I need my David Gilmour fix daily or I get really irritable. Your channel is o e of the best and I listen to them all. Keep going with PF it's the best rabbit hole ......
Iv herd and lived the another brick in the wall, its probablay the only song iv known for years without knowing the band but iv never seen a live performance of it
Great reaction, and fun to see you exploring Pink Floyd. They are without a doubt the greatest band ever to grace the Earth. Only one band comes close and that's Nightwish. Do yourself a favour and check out their live cover/tribute of "High hopes". Just about the only tune from PF that's been covered and that doesn't suck. :)
That is a slide guitar that David Gilmour is playing. I have heard different names for this type of guitar, including lap slide guitar, and pedal steel guitar.
If you are interested in more interesting solos by David Gilmore: I recommend „keep talking“ from the Pulse Concert, where he solos the guitar through his mouth using a „talkbox“! Rarely seen - and a real treat! (Like the lap steel guitar, that I actually only know from Sheryl Crows debut song „All I wanna do“)
Another cool reaction to another great Floyd song, JB! I reckon you'll breach that 1K subscriber milestone today mate, it will be well deserved. Your reactions are enthusiastic and resprctful, but during the song you pretty much let the music do the talking as you gather your thoughts. Just like I did when I was a young fella hearing these songs for the first time. :-)
Thank you buddy muchly appreciated , really happy people like yourself enjoy the reactions that the main thing for me buddy. So its just to continue to move forward and try keep people enjoying watching i think. Cheers again matey 😊
I saw Floyd on this tour at the Rose Bowl here in California. I usually smoke a little weed before and during a show to get into the right frame of mind. For this show I didn’t because I KNEW that it was going to be the ONLY time I got to see Floyd live. Hears the thing though… I didn’t have to! Imagine all the weed in California being gathered up and then made into a gigantic bonfire. Now imagine what the cloud of smoke arising from said bonfire would look like. That was what it was like to be in the crowd! You we’re getting loaded weather you wanted to or not! By the time they did Comfortably Numb, I was seriously tripping fucken BALLS!
It was the same way when they played Rice Stadium in Houston. The weather held the smoke down and kept it concentrated. One would have thought that they programed the lightning to the music. Even though it was cancelled for the safety of the band, it was great while it lasted.
Most youtube comments will point you towards really well known floyd songs, But if you want to take a detour off the well beaten floyd path take a listen to childhoods end by pink floyd, Its a great little known song written by david gilmour which is a rarity during the waters led incarnation of pink floyd
...actually...a "pedal steel guitar" looks similar to what D.G. is playing, but is more robust, and actually has pedals beneath it that 'bend' the tones up or down...a "slide guitar" is usually played in the 'regular' guitar position, but is played with a slide 'bar' like D.G. is using here...what he is using here is better known as a "lap steel guitar" because in earlier decades (and even now) it can be used without the legs and placed and used on the lap (although, for me, it is a little uncomfortable that way)...
I don't know why, but the short line "the taste was sweeter" in the second chorus brings a tear to my eye every time...
Every time…
Damn..that lap steel in David's hands is pure unadulterated ecstasy!!!!!!!!!
David has created many amazing guitar solos, this one is just magical. The sound of melancholy.
that acoustic guitar solo in the middle just digs into your soul. this song oozes with atmosphere. so many magic moments in this song. wonderful.

There's no other band like Pink Floyd, how epic that they use a real, giant iron bell, and a huge Gong!

There is simply no substitute for the sheer charisma of real percussion. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Supreme nostalgia and melancholy in a song.
Division bells my Favourite album
Masterpiece it sure is - one amongst many Pink Floyd masterpieces. The solo was performed on a Lap Steel guitar - most commonly used in country music.
This is one, like many of their songs that is on a direct line to the soul. It conjures whatever emotion one has been holding back and lets it breathe.
that four chord melody at the chorus is just.........somebody give me the word.
Another great song from the Pulse Concert is RUN LIKE HELL.
Pink Floyd has found a way into our collective minds and emotions. I don't know what it is but their music rarely fails to move people deeply.
Simply Beautifull

Majestic just about covers it 👏👏👏👏👏❤️
There is a live video at Gdansk in Poland filmed at the docs were the revolution began. Lovely moment using the bell at the docs in the beginning.

It’s not a fly but a bee😊.
It’s only the single greatest song there ever will be in music history 🤷♂️
Btw… I say that about all PF songs 😏
Yeah they do have many great songs to me so far iv listened to for sure 😁
Better late than never to get into the Floyd... what ever were you doing before hand...
