Pretty amazing when it dawns on them and that look on their face when it does. You and I remember how it felt the first time with Pink Floyd. For me, there is no other band that made me feel like they do.
14 to 52 and at 52 Floyd has never been so powerful You don't listen to pink Floyd you feel pink Floyd and the lyrics become yours the sound stirs your soul and emotions I've seen first time watchers sobbing their hearts out to comfortably numb and to witness someone fall apart tells you how and why Floyd always be greatest band in the world David's wife said David can't show emotion but is a master of expression through his guitar
A new generation have now found the Floyd as I did as a 12yr old new year God Willing,I will be 70` with a head full of all the Floyd concerts including Pulse at Earls Court which was surreal 360deg sound, them lasers.took my boy who was 5 ,he is 34 now and still remembers it all ,well burnt into a young mind,Gives you hope.
This track is basically a recap of their career as a band, and a final tribute to their founder, Syd Barrett (RIP). The statue at the end is a rendition of SYD in the early days. It is the perfect closing cut on their final studio album, summing up the nearly 25 years since their inception.
I've been watching different reactors, to different kinds of music, and you're the 1st one I've subbed to. You're reactions to Pink Floyd music shows a genuine love and appreciation and awe of this band. I can say that I have truly enjoyed watching someone discover timeless art. Keep at it.
It's called a "lap steel" guitar it kind of sits down like a keyboard yet you play it like a guitar with a glass or a steel slide on one hand. That's what gives it that really smooth sound. He uses it in this concert in another song you simply have to watch to believe called "One Of These Days"! There really isn't a bad song on this entire concert!!
I was about to add that too. If you're looking for a guitar player who did play on their lap check out Jeff Healey. He learned to play that way sure to blindness from a cancer of his eyes he had before the age of 1. He was a great blues musician.
i am 45 now... I was 13 n went to the division bell tour at the palace in auburn hills Michigan and 17 when I went to the pulse tour at the silverdome in Pontiac. Best experience of my life! Thanks mom n dad! Not many people my age can say they saw em live! Twice!
David was playing a six-string acoustic guitar at first, then at 6:17 you can see he sits down at the pedal steel. Right at the very end you can hear him revert to the acoustic. The pedal steel is a development of slide guitar, which is a 'normal' guitar but played with a 'slide' or a 'steel'. This developed into a 'lap steel' which sits on the player's lap, then it grew legs and a stand and pedals like a keyboard instrument. (You can Google for pics). I love the unique sound it makes, and the ability to slide continuously between notes, which David makes the most of in this track.
The one thing about this song (at this concert as well {I was lucky at 15 in Cleveland May 26, 1994)) This bell when though the whole song- that was really eerie, but awesome!
Good thing to remember - these musicians are veterans of the psychedelic era (many would suggest they pretty much manifested it) - their music and lyrical poetry are first and foremost dream-images, however much immediate literal sense they make, or stories they may “tell”. You can’t lose by just letting it wash over you, and letting the subconscious images form. No need to over-analyze what any of it’s “about” - it’s about sounds, images, and human imagination, and it’s never been more needed than now, in this sadly superficial, short-attentioned little age we’re passing through now.
Yup a Lap Steel guitar,.... or Steel Guitar. Gilmour used a couple of different Lap Steel guitars with Pink Floyd, Fender being one, but his Jedson Lap Steel was a favorite of his and that's the one you see here at the Pulse Concerts. I think you're really starting to understand just how special a band Pink Floyd is/was, and David Gilmour by extension. He's a tremendously talented guitarist and musician, his style is unique and instantly recognized by PF fans. He plays the guitar with such passion, feel and emotion, his inventiveness and phrasing show a certain purposefulness, that is not seen in very many guitarists. When Pink Floyd stopped being Pink Floyd, David Gilmour continued on and toured playing Pink Floyd songs as a solo artist with a backing band. David Gilmour has continued to perform as recently as 2016 with the release of his 4th and last solo album, "Rattle That Lock". Today David Gilmour is 75 years old. There are some great videos from the 2006 "Live at Gdansk" concert, and some 2016 performances out there too. Also check out some videos when they were in their mid 20's, like their 1971 "Echoes Live at Pompeii",....there's another Pink Floyd live performance Pompeii in 2016. It was billed as,... "David Gilmour Returns to Pompeii after 45 Years"
Have a look at Led Zeppelin, The Who , the Stones , the Beetles , Queen ! All English Bands too ! And we have so many more ! Our little island has turned out some Legendary , trailblazing bands ! 👍🏻

All the pulse concert is amazing. But please react to echoes pompeii live, early floyd. You won't regret it. Pink floyd is my number 1 band (just my personal opinion as we all have them)
Subscribed. There's a lot more to this journey. You haven't even heard anything from their Dark Side of the Moon album yet. That album has spent more than 950 weeks on the charts. When I graduated high school in 1984, it had been on the charts continuously since its release in 1973. For those songs, I'd suggest studio versions of Time (with lyrics) first, then Great Gig in the Sky, which immediately follows (it's a concept album).
I dated a guy in 1987, who was stationed in the ARMY in Germany and took a dishonorable discharge to leave base and go to a Pink Floyd concert! People have quit their jobs, took a few hundred bucks and left the country to see Pink Floyd!! Life changing….
I was lucky enough to get a ticket for that concert which was held at Earl's Court London in 1994 and it blew my mind, the light show the guitar solos the crowd just amazing seeing them live,I have loved pink floyd since the 60s if you have just found them they have got a massive catalogue of tracks and albums that will send you to another galaxy happy listening.🇬🇧🇺🇸👍👍
When you bought a Pink Floyd ticket back in the day... you got a concert, performance, an experience and a night of inspiring music!!! ~ "You don't need drugs to enjoy Pink Floyd but you definitely need Pink Floyd to enjoy the effects of your drink and drugs!!" \m/
You’ve been Floyded! So glad to see you get them. David is the best guitarist ever, IMO. Try not to get distracted by videos & just feel the music like you’re doing! 👊🏼 Not sure why your comments are turned off in “One of These Days” but there was one line kinda yelled by the drummer Nick Mason - “One of these days I’m going to cut you into little pieces.”
Loving it fellow Floydian, I agree that you should do some studio cuts. It's not easy, these pulse performances are like crack, but they are also engineering masters. For a totally different Floyd experiece, try the song "Hey You" studio and "Time" studio, as tight as songs can get
I had a friend in the Navy who hated Pink Floyd until I showed him this concert. It was like a spiritual awakening for him. Pink Floyd is likely the most influential band for me of all time.
Pink Floyd is a good place to be stuck. I have been stuck on PF since 1972 when I heard the album Meddle. All the folks in the comments will guide you on a wonderful PF tour and for the purpose of getting you ready for their masterpiece. May I humbly suggest Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I - V) from the album Wish You Were Here as part of the PF tour. BTW David Gilmour is my favorite guitarist of all time. There may be others that are better technically, but I have always loved his style and the emotion in his playing. ua-cam.com/video/54W8kktFE_o/v-deo.html
If you’re still wanting more from the Pulse concert, try ‘Time’ or ‘Coming back to life’. Or both! Or anything from that album really, you can’t go wrong. Loving the reactions!

🙋🏿♀️ Please do Echoes Live in Pompeii! 😍 Love me some young, shirtless, 20 something Pink Floyd performing their own kind of magic! 😁 But that's just me!🐰
I myself suggest the following EPIC 10 live songs; the studio and "Brit Floyd" versions are phenomenal as well!! : 1) "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" 2) "Hey You" 3) "Us and Them/Any Colour You Like/Brain Damage/Eclipse" (all 4 parts) 4) "Money" 5) "Time/Breathe Reprise" 6) "Dogs" 7) "Wish You We're Here" 8) "Pigs (3 different ones)" 9) "Welcome To The Machine" 10) "The Great Gig In The Sky" 11+) There's so many... !!
Pink Floyd in my eyes will last forever, even after I am long gone. Popenyco, my only criticism would be get yourself some quality over ear headphones. The sound is so much better. Keep listening.
Yeah, man- you said 3 for 3... make that about 500 for 500. It was the acoustic that David played at first, but he switched to the Jedson Console Steel guitar, which is the lap steel, securely mounted. But next up should be One of These Days followed by Coming Back to Life then Run Like Hell. And top off a guitar sonic bliss night with Gilmour visiting another band for Marooned. Have life-saving refreshments handy- you gonna need 'em.
Not sure what you mean by David visiting “another band” for Marooned. That was on their Division Bell album, with Mason & Wright. 🤔 But I agree with your other choices 🤗

I love this song and how David transitions from an acoustic guitar to a lap steel at the end. I also think the video images are evocative. This is the difference between a "recording artist" and true musician. Floyd can record it in a studio then replicate it live on stage, unlike a lot of people who sound like shit when they try to play or sing live without the aid of auto-tune. ✌️♥️🇬🇧
