As a history buff, I really appreciate how you exemplified Genghis Khan's exceptional use of the autoresolve.
When your generals fought most of your empire's battles.
Ah the glorious 3 tent threat lol
Every battle without a detailed record was an Auto Battle. Few people know that ;)
@@ernimuja6991lol isent that what should happen ?
@@satanwithinternet2753 Alexander, Julius Caesar and Napoleon fought most of their battles.
Genghis Khan would've totally used wisards in his army, because, from his point of view, he did. There were Mongol shamans among the troops who were believed to call for spirits' aid in battle, and Genghis Khan himself was believed to be a powerful shaman. You probably could've gotten away with using a wizard :)
Was gonna comment this exact thing lol
Lore of beasts maybe?
@@SaltyRocksPew definitely
Not only that but the mongolian empire embraced all religions in its court as advisors and bureaucrats.
History revisionism.
Genghis Khan often used wizards and won battles by spamming pendulum and burning head rather than horse archers
*Summon the Elector-Khans!*
it was a legit thing in mongol empire and its called Kural Tie
In the Mongol Empire the "khagan" or "great khan" was an elected position.
"Kurultai" is what the election meeting was called.
So yeah, there were Elector Khans.
The Elector Count of Ostland looks like a Mongol commander so you're not wrong.
Genghis specifically sought out shamans to help his conquests, since Mongols expected to have them call on the aid of spirits in combat. And once the empire was formed, they would seek out holy men of other religions on the basis that they might as well call on all of them. He would have totally capped out on wizards.
A priest, a rabbi, and an imam walk into a mongol siege camp…
@@misanthropicservitorofmars2116 gets high end jobs
@@misanthropicservitorofmars2116 To be honest Genghis Khan was one of the first to start doing rewarding by merit.
Karl here out-cavalrying the Bretonnians here.
Genghis Khan would totally use wizards and autoresolve if he had the chance.
Man, I really wished the Bretonnians were chosen for this challenge. They are my absolute favorite faction.
Funny because in lore a Knight Errant would be more than a match for a fully fledged Empire knight
He did use auto resolve. It was called the three tents threat. The first day was a white tent and if they surrendered all was good, they just took tribute. If they raised the red tent that was a fight and inhabitants were enslaved. If he raised the black tent the city was razed to the ground with no survivors.
@@JohnSmith-bs9ym
Bretonnians don't have missile cavalry though, so it wouldn't really be a mongol-style army.
@@aclassicguardsman946 they have mounted yeomen archers so bretonnia would have arguably been MORE fitting.
I wish the Kislevites where a bit more focused on that kind of playstyle.
I mean, they do tho. Kislev cav is better the empire cav. Kossars are just super cost effective so people mindlessly spam them without using the other parts of the roster.
In the lore they're described as horsemen. I wish they had an armor piercing or bonus vs infantry horse archer unit.
Horse archers + winged landers
Fortunately demons have low armor and no sheilds
@@christianweibrecht6555 As Kislev you have to fight WoC and chaos dwarfs constantly
@@-V-_-V- Not the Gospodars, but the Ungols.
Karl Franz should be quite familiar with the "Cantabrian Circle" because it's very similar to the Renaissance Caracole that the Empire's Pistoliers are undoubtedly capable of.
Yeah that's an intresting concept, btw you're 100% right, if the khan had wizards, he would've for sure use them.
He had wizards alltho those were called shamans but its the same thing. But they only had some buff magic no fancy fireballs.
"Would you believe it, Genghis Khan didn't actually use wizards in his army" - who knew?
For some reason that line cracked me up, keep up the great content mate, always a treat!
But he did use shamans to hype up his army so using wizards would have been fair here. Its not like khan used pistols either.
I remember how Genghis Khan gave his troops guns
*And explosives capable of destroying entire regiments in mere moments.
i distinctly remember using a mongolian hellstorm rocket battery to blow up ships in ghost of tsushima and I have no reason to doubt its historical accuracy
But didn't use mages.
@@SaltyRocksPewin Medieval Total War 2 the Mongols have a Mongol Rocket Launcher, as well as Naffatum (infantry that throws incendiary bombs).
Gunpowder DID get to Europe thanks to Mongols (possibly directly, possibly through Middle East).
@@JackPhoenixCz I'm so smrt my bullshit may accidentally be the truth.
Or i read about it somewhere and it got shoved down into my subconscious.
Regardless, ty for the info
Having grenade launchers sounds viable for Mongolian Horde as there are records of Mongols using primitive grenades in Japan which called tetsuhau (てつはう), I'm sure they used them in the continent and might have developed handheld launcher like in this game.
Yeah, my thoughts as well. I swear I read about a few Mongolian troops using a very primitive explosive device in the west.
they were surrendered song troops
really really REALLY and i mean R E A L L Y fun video idea.
id love to see more like this
Cata circle only works with horse archer long range, so the entire thing can fire. The circle was a tactic vs enemy archers most of the fire land in middle where its empty..
Actually, circular fire returned with the advent of handheld firearms! Just as Marian tactics returned for infantry, early modern cavalry like the Schwartz Ritters would harass enemy lines with carousel fire. Basically you'd unload your pistols when you near the enemy lines, then use the remainder of the circle to reload as you rode out of range!
Very effective, particularly before the mass adoption of true muskets
Great fun! Genghis used about 40% lancers to 60% horse archer skirmishers. Kislev is perfect for Genghis-style battles. High Elves are OK for this too but too expensive.
There is no word for "too expensive" in elven dictionary.
Dear old Ghengis did of course also use infantry in his main forces (esp allied contingents), so there was no need to crimp yourself quite so much, but looks like you had fun experimenting!
You'll be telling me he didn't use grenade launchers next. Pft.
Great video! Khan was famous for destroying or conscripting conquered settlements into the army. I would have loved to see one where its a mishmash of outpost generated cav from different armies! Very flavourfula
You joke at 8:00 but as soon as Genghis Khan's forces were met with gunpowder bombs during his conquest of the Jin dynasty, he became a really big fan of them and incorporated gunpowder into his own army.
I did this with Tyrion. It was nasty. High elf skirmish cav and raider light cav in early game, late same skirmish cav but silver hands and dragon princes for heavy and just crushing it
What a great video, probably one of your best and one of my favourite of all time!
Keep up this energy 👍🏻
You could do Cantabrian circles on a unit level in Rome Total War.
Really like the video idea Zerk, would love to see more of these!
Best vid so far mate keep up the amazing work and stay safe.
Zerk you always make great content but this one was by far the most entertaining, funny and educative.
Thank you!
Love the video, can't wait to see more wacky tactics pulled off in this format.
I’ve looked up plenty of ancient war tactics to play these games, they still work amazingly well lol
Awesome. Love your themed campaigns.
You had some damn good camera work for this vid, great cinematography ❤
Love these types of videos, you are doing a great job, keep em coming!! 👍
This was awesome, what a great idea, not like the normal grind that we've seen hundreds of times. My only question is: why only 20 mins? This much fun shouldn't be rationed 😁👍
Love ur thematic videos lately. Loved the semi circle thing
"I've heard Genghis Khan didn't use wizards, so I recruited heavy knights in playemail and grenade launchers"
Finally some of the Empire factions utilising their OP horses .
In previous Total Wars games, armies made entirely of calvary had larger campaign movement ranges. Is that the case with Warhammer?
Not quite, a large cav army in real life would actually be slower. You would have to build pens for the horses, bring fodder for places with sparse vegetation, grooming equipment, etc. it’s hard enough trying to move infantry, but add horses to that equation it becomes much more difficult. Not impossible, but more tedious.
@@RebelCannonClub74 Think he's asking about the games ngl
No, because it is probably harder to define what cavalry is in a fantasy setting
No, movement range is the same regardless of army comp.
@@RebelCannonClub74 I just watched a video by Invicta called True Size of a Mongol Army. Part of it talks about how slow the main hoard moved and why. In the video they said that the largest army's called Chuns, would have consisted of 253,000 beings, 30k men and the rest horses and other animals. They would move at a pace of 14 mile a day and devour 210-630 acres of pasture a month. This would not happen often and most of the time they would broken off into smaller warbands that could cover up to 60 miles or more a day.
This is some good stuff right here.
Not a fan of auto resolve in my own campaigns but it really helps the flow of these videos and keeps it tight on the action.
Well done!
I love your videos, I discovered your channel through your tactics guide and subscribed instantly
I enjoy watching your video more than most wh content creator because your always creative, willing to teach and you manage to give a better understanding of what's actually going
Thank you for that and see you in the next one
Excellent use of that Takeda Fire Cavalry, beautiful work
My hand aches just watching this...
Sun tzu once said, "ain't no one got any time for that"....
I love how you did all of it within just few turns... i'm still trying to figured out how to beat empire campaing on the first game hahaha
And this is probs the best reason why I want Knights Panther to be an "anti-large" cavalry and Knights of the White Wolf to be the melee cavalry. It would complete the Empire's knightly corps.
I recently tried a Mongol themed army comp with Bretonnia. Let me tell you, grail knights w/ perfect vigor plus yeoman archers are pretty effective.
Wonderful video! Keep it up!
Genghis Karl :D
Damn, you beat me to it lol😂.
Nice
I believe chords with the wolf archers are the most khan like playstyle
With the hobgoblins
Most likely during my next kislev / empire campaign, spear infantry & ranged clavary will be my main army composition
Would be really interesting to see a mod that reflects the mongols, stuff like starting out with a horde army
Very nice videos, very creative ideas, I've started re-enjoying warhammer iii with Nakai and his crocodile gang, Ghengis Karl or Balthasar Bonaparte might be next
I was constantly laughing. Great video. When you did the deadpan delivery that Genghis Khan did not actually use wizards I lost it!
"His pet hammer Ghal Maraz for walkies" god damn thats funny
@@Giveaway_OfficialZerkovich oh sweet a zerkovich bot named Official Zerkovich 😃
Ah, demigryph! Chengis' favorite mount!
“I did what Genghis Khan would do, and recruited a few regiments of renown”

"If there's anything I learned as a Follower of the Apocalypse, it's that there's a lot of good information in old books."
mongol armies went freaking insaneo mode with siege equipment, actually, so no problem there
12:12 It is like that scene from the beginning of Gladiator!
you are funny man, I love your videos, this one if my favourite, thank you for making them, cheers.
This would be a fun campaign to watch :)
Great video!!!
Aaaah, this brings the Mongol Invasion from Medieval 2 to mind. I'll never forget the fire arrows raining down on my armoured swordsmen in the middle of the night. A great game.
you are not allowed to call Ghal Moraz a pet hammer XD
It always amazes me how thousands of jears old tactics still work in a simplified video game.
Richtig gut und interessant ❤
Loved the cavalry tactics, looked very flashy
So you will be turning Kislevites into a living stage and feasting on it. This action has my consent.
"So can we get out of this" AI: Not Likely.
The Khan also had legions of auxiliary and support troops from various conquered lands, particularly siege engineers from China. Wondering where the cathaian crossbow and artillery is zerk
using your court wizard as a spy definitely feels like a Genghis Khan move
Mongols had siege weapons and became master at sieging so keeping some artilerry would make total sense
This makes me want to try mainly cavalry with Kislev now
wow, Karl Franz , a figure based on German HRE use carricole , which the german ritters used quite a lot, what a beautiful sight
we need history lessons like this
you could do the circle easier by putting them in a locked group, then using the alt right click to rotate the formation
I can confirm as somene who has ready a lot of history books, Ghenghis Khan *did* absolutely love a grenade launcher.
More Please! One idea could be Pike and Shot tactics used by the Dutch. Tercio Formation
I rewatch this video only for the hilarious intro
@Zerkovich, if you are familiar with Shogun 2 please do the Oda faction strategy with Empire units?
hi dude i love your videos can you do an anti infantry tournament all the fractions to find out the most powerful here
i cant belive kempler was able to take marienburg XD
Didn’t think it would work in fantasy setting
Jenghis The Everchosen is quite fun as well 😛
What do you use for the drawing tool? I have seen others use it, and I have never seen it appear for me
if you look during battles in the top left during the video, he has a button lit up.
that's the draw tool
@@andreasottohansen7338 thanks
Which difficulty settings are you using?
> gets an amethyst wizard
> doesn't restart
Since Genghis was his name and Khan his title, I think it would have been Karl Kahn oder Kahn Karl, I guess
I see Karl's keeping up his habit of stealing hats
they have this moving rotate formation for skirmish cav in total war shogun 2, check it out
I would say if you could get a wizard or hero that does poison damage you could keep him. Cuz Mongols were the type to use chemical warfare, if I remember correctly.
I mean the Mongols(Genghis Khan specifically) DID use a similar system to The Elector Counts so this makes a lot of sense!
So cool
That "Oh Scheiße" at 1:27 was very great! Very german.
How do you draw on the map?
Could do this but with Kislev, Possibly Tzar Boris within the Chaos Wastes.
Nade riders are basically the infantry clapping unit, doesnt even matter what infantry. Its gonna die.
I am pretty sure khan had SOME infantry granted I don't ever use massive amounts of knights or mounted units as I am dumb and I forget where I park them in archers or whatever
Could you make a guide for tomb kings specifically Arkhan the black
10:30 Pelinal Approved
Thank you! I planned to try these tactic for a few months. Just with Orks, I'd never play with Imperial scums xD
Surprised you didnt try a single feigned retreat strategy
Finally figured out how Ghenghis Khan got such a large empire… cheesing the auto resolve with ranged cav.
Just curious if you've actually read the book and would recommend it
7:54 the mongols were masters of the siege
Make this a campaign series
