(38.4 cf behind the 2nd row in the Sorento vs 36.4 cf in the Santa Fe.) It's true that the Santa Fe has some limited cargo space just behind the 2nd row and below the cargo floor lacking in the KIA due to the space required to stow the third seat row but that space is only accessible if the floor above it is empty. It's not clear whether C&D takes that space into consideration but in terms of easily accessible cargo space the Sorento offers more. () In the Santa Fe's favor is that one of the more useful features in a "family" SUV is missing in the Sorento. A number of mostly minor features have been dropped in the Sorento for 2021. But one of the important deletions is driver seat memory settings. () It's "bad marketing" to offer such similar vehicles from KIA and Hyundai??? (16:00) Does that apply to the Telluride and Palisade? To the K5 and the Sonata? In fact, the Korean brands broaden their overall appeal and increase sales by appealing to distinct slices of the overall midsize crossover market. Used to be two totally different companies until Hyundai bought bankrupt Kia. Hyundai is more of family vehicles whereas Kia targets for the younger generations. Every Hyundai car has a "younger" version of Kia. I think this is their strategy here. Without much effort, Hyundai can sell cars to pretty much anyone; younger or older and also leaving two a healthy competition. Smart!!!

You're not the only one. I had the Dodge Journey for 8 years and ordered the Sorento. Since new Journey remodel doesn't come out till 2022. Journey did me good traveled from coast to coast across both USA and Canada. Sorento is gonna be blast on road trips.
In the US Hyundai dropped the optional 3rd row in the Santa Fe in 2018 as I recall. That was the same year that KIA made it standard across all Sorento trims. At that time the Sorento also offered a naturally aspirated V6 option while the Santa Fe's optional engine was a turbo 4. Those differences matched the distinct marketing targets for the two vehicles. The Santa Fe was pitched as a somewhat larger alternative to compact crossovers such as the CR-V and RAV4 while the Sorento was marketed as a small midsize crossover. Thus, despite their virtually identical size and many shared components, the Santa Fe enjoyed a several thousand dollar difference in MSRP to put its MSRP close to that of a fully loaded top trim Honda or Toyota compact crossover. For 2021 the engine/drivetrain differences have been eliminated and the Santa Fe has a new top trim (Calligraphy) that competes directly with the Sorento's top trim (SX-Prestige) in terms of MSRP once the Sorento is fitted with the optional AWD/X-Line option package. The X-Line's "adventurous" features are available in the US only on the SX-Prestige model and all trims come standard with FWD with AWD as an option. In Canada it's a bit different. All Sorentos regardless of trim have AWD as a standard feature and the X-Line model is a separate lower trim priced below the EX, EX+, and SX trims. Much like the differences between the Telluride and the Palisade, KIA seeks to project a rugged "adventure" vibe in their most expensive models in the US while Hyundai aims for a "budget friendly luxury" image with the Santa Fe "Calligraphy" edition. KIA apparently believes there's a demand for the X-Line's appearance package near the bottom of the trim ladder in Canada while those prepared to spend more want bells and whistles and amenities. BTW, John, if you happen to see this I wonder if you know whether the 2021 KIA Stinger with the 2.5L turbo now available in Korea has a DCT or a conventional torque converter AT. I had assumed it was the same DCT found on the new Sorento, K5, and Sonata carried over to the Stinger but now I'm suspecting the Stinger follows the lead of the G80 with the same base engine but a conventional AT.

I find that disappointing but many drivers find the behavior of a DCT to be unfamiliar.
On other markets Santa Fé 2021 offers an option of 3 rows. And taking into account that it has more intelligent assistants (like remote parking) it is a preferred choice for me
The interior of the Santa Fe is more refined and upscale and I actually do like the button shifter, my favorite is the dial like in Fords but the buttons gets the job done.

Thanks for the great video. Seriously thinking to switch from a german premium brand to hyundai. One additon. At least in germany it seems the santa fe comes as seven seater. Contacted a dealership yesterday and its offered as an Individuel model rather than a selectable option. Only drawback is that they dont offer every trimline with the 7 seater. Price was short of 2k € for the 3rd row.
I think the 3rd row in the Sorento isn’t that useful. The Santa Fe is the perfect size suv. If you have 6 family members than Sorento is the way to go. The Rogue is another great option, between the santa fe and rogue it all comes down the taste, but the rogue has no power compared to the Santa Fe 277bhp.
Since I am a former CFO, I am the only one who would probably notice this. The top level trim prices are virtually the same in Canadian dollars but there is almost $1500 difference in the US dollar price shown. The only way that can happen is if you are using two different exchange rates: one for the Sorento and one for the Santa Fe. Is this just a mistake in the numbers?
Was going to get the santa fe for the wife until we found out the brown/tan interior was no longer available! They discontinued the best combo interior color! Tan and black is no comparison to the brown and tan!
Hi. You need to get some technical data straight. Both engines have exactly the same horse power. It is just the different way presenting the units . one is PS, the other is HP. And the difference is as follows: 1Ps = 0.986Hp i.e. -> 281 pferdestarke (ps) = 277.155 horsepower. Cheers.
Both are really nice cars. Santa Fe is more refined inside with less shine and more leather wrapped features, Kia is too shiny for my liking but many will love its modern look. Kia feels more rugged driving while in santa fe, you just fly. Overall, what makes it for the Santa Fe is the,,,,,price! For 41.5k, you can get a limited edition that is better than SX which costs more. Hyundai it is.
I drove both and bought the kia x-line. I like the interior and the exterior better than the Hyundai. The Sorento has more room when the 3rd row is down. It makes crazy good power. My nitpicks are small. Love it.
My problem with the Kia is the sea of gloss black. In 5 years the Santa Fe interior will look great and the Sorento gloss black pieces will be scratched up and have fingerprints and smudges. That doesn't bother everyone, but it would for me.
One thing most car reviewers never mention is that the Sorento doesn't have a memory drivers seat. With two drivers in the family, that's a deal breaker for me.
@@SamCarLegion Sam, I checked with a Kia dealer in San Antonio and they conform that the Sorento sold here does not have memory seats. they both have same drivetrain basically i chose the santa fe it looks more fancy the sorento is ore mucsle
I'm wrestling with either as well.... Especially with maybe getting a Hybrid. I'm 69 YO , retired, and only do local trips now, NO MORE COMMUTING !!!. Just some regular 300 mile trips to see the Grandkids in NJ. The Sorento is Winking at me for the Baby Brother Telluride - more rugged look, but I like the Santa Fe interior a bit more even with Push button Tranny (I have that now in my 2019 Acura MDX ). Good Luck
@@Chiroman527 idk man maybe u should upgrade to the 2022 Acura Mdx😅
Love the fact that you complain about the cars without gear knobs every chance you get. Great job as always. Keep bringing it up till the companies bring back gear knobs 👌
Hold on to your buggy whips too!!!!!
Why move back in life? Lol
It’s something to get used to. Way better my opinion. It’s like comparing a smart key with a pop out key.
@@benjamind3058 cause I like to row my own gear in an automatic car like a manual. Every car enthusiast does. Thats why true driver's machines like BMW and Alfa keep their gear levers. Besides no one had a problem with levers for many years cause its very natural and you dont need to look for it. Until an idiot thought buttons are better than lever like mouses are better than touch screens in Lexus and Acura lol
The tie breaker is that the Santa Fe wins with a much higher reliability rating than the Kia Sorento.
how is that possible if they both have the same drivtrain?
@@kristians2704 They use some different components other than the drive train.
Look up JD power rating.. kia on top
@@keithkang5399 Don't trust JD. Poor track rating claiming really bad vehicles as great.
I love my 15 Kia Sorento sport... and this new one makes me want a new one
I got my Santa Fe outclass the Sorento in all aspects….classy and superior inside out…..
I have my 21 sorento SX prestige and I’m blown the look the feel the drive top to bottom hands down best suv on the market
As far as I know, none of these cars have wireless Android Auto. Do we have news of firmware updates from Hyundai or Kia that resolve this?
I think they did
Thanks for the great video.
I hear Santa Fe has no spare tire. What about the Sorento?
both have a small spare
Are you sure the Sorento gets heated seats on second row ( Canada model) ?
Yes 👍
I don’t think the US version Sorrento gets heated rear seats
👍 👍👍👍👍SANTA FE no doubt
Nissan Rogue Kia Sorento or Hyundai Santa Fe or GMC Terrain which one some one help or if you have any other suggestions for families
Depends on your family size
@@SamCarLegion 4-5 people
Santa fe would be a great option.
@@SamCarLegion over the Sorento and the other SUVs I've mentioned
I think the 3rd row in the Sorento isn’t that useful. The Santa Fe is the perfect size suv. If you have 6 family members than Sorento is the way to go. The Rogue is another great option, between the santa fe and rogue it all comes down the taste, but the rogue has no power compared to the Santa Fe 277bhp.
The KIA seems more sport while the Santa Fe is more comfortable and has the sport drive
The Sorento is also a 5 seater.. the rear seat accommodates one adult sitting sideways..
Cheers.
santafe all the way
Outstanding. I need one.
I prefer the exterior of the Kia but the Hyundai is nice too. But for the interior, Hyundai by a mile. Also, this is the old Kia logo.
Yes it does
@@SamCarLegion Maybe in Canada, but I don't believe it does in the US.
In Canada it does
@@SamCarLegion Sam, I checked with a Kia dealer in San Antonio and they conform that the Sorento sold here does not have memory seats. It's hard to believe they would do this to an otherwise great new model when the old model had this feature. They must be trying to push people up to the more expensive Telluride.
@@braddruehl6786 I've actually heard some complaints about the US version lacking features available in other markets
Both are better than the Toyota Venza and Honda Passport and Ford Edge
I can’t even imagine arguing this.
Toyota’s is better
1.reliability
2.better resell value
3.better transmission
Before you say anything just don’t look at warranties or the techs look what will last forever
do your homework yes its better than honda but not toyota
@@saadtheman1 the Venza is slower, doesn’t have as much space (no 3rd row) and the interior isn’t as modern. Resale value has nothing really to due with how good the car is.
@@kristians2704 u care about tech😂
It's like comparing the JMC Sierra vs Silverado, both are the same Engine, but the quality are not the same.
Santa Fe...Hands Down!!!!!!!!!!
It's odd that I think Sorento looks better parked but Santa Fe looks better on the road.
In Australia the Hyundai Highlander comes with a third row.
interesting
Like Mercedes caters more to the feminine and BMW the masculine, so too Hyundai is the feminine style and Kia the more masculine. So while guys may say that BMWs and Kias are better, their wives may prefer Mercedes and Hyundai.
The biggest draw is the captain's chairs
I think that's the biggest difference for me, both have pros/cons but I'd prefer a bench seat in the rear, so Santa Fe would be my choice.
Seriously if you need a 3rd row you might as well just get the Telluride. Idk why they tried shoving a tight third row in the Sorento.
The Sorento's exterior looks more masculine. Looks more like a Durango compared to the Hyundai. I like the Kia better. I'd rather have a third row seat but not need it.
Santa Fe all the way 😁
Kia Sorento the Best 👍
The Sorento is definitely better looking, but I do think I'll go with the Santa Fe as the interior is way better
Santa fe:2 gen platform sorento:3 gen paltform
I prefer the santa fe tho
And I can tell I’m gonna have to tint the windows
I like sorento but they now stuck with 7 seater from original 5-7 seater so no thxs Sante fe doesn't look as nice but they stepped down from 7 seater to 5 seater plus parking assistance in remote which is bonus cause ppl still double park 🤬 (I have the 19 sorento 5 seater so when I heard kia discontinued the 5 seater I was not happy I love the hidden compartment
Sorento looks much nicer... Kia is killing the competition as of lately
KIA seems better.
The front of Santa Fe doesn’t compare to sorento any day, the front of Santa Fe in my opinion looks weird and looks like it should be a remote controlled car vs a real one, the headlights are so ugly being in the grill and not where they should be like the sorento
Santa Fe look More better design than Sorento..➡️🤓
Kia🙏🏿👍🏿
Toyota’s is better

The new Santa Fe offers a 3rd row in Europe
❤👍KIA👍❤
Ordered the Sorento. Santa Fe looks like a boomer vehicle.
Toyota’s is better

@@saadtheman1 Nothing lasts forever. I don't know about better transmission. Driving a Toyota gives off Uber driver vibes. I can never own Toyota thanks to that.
@@lSeKToRl toyotas are so reliable and you get better value again ur looking at features and tech thats the problem i had the 2017 tucson my transmisson will jerk alot and my oil was buring are you kidding me ok they offer 5 years warrentie but the dealership did not help me at all they rip me off #nevertrusthyundai
Kia screwed up, Sorento should've gotten the Carnival interior.
Sentafe is better
Kia sorento is better

Santa fe exterior is the most ugly i have ever seen in all cars. Kia all the way
Those third rows are basically useless! Each vehicle serves a different demographic! There is no point even comparing them.
🤣🤣
What a horrible review
Both will have engine problems in 65k miles or start on fire in your yard .
terrible review
