Kia was incredibly smart with the Sorento. This is on the small side of the mid-sized three row cross overs. Whereas, the Telluride is on the larger end of this class. The Sorento is quicker and much more nimble than the Telluride. These two Kias offer very distinct choices! Both great imo!
Great video Sam. You cannot deny your reaction when you first hit the gas...it’s good to see performance in this segment. I have a 3 row. Two kids and a wife (before she left me). Used the 3rd row when Grandma needed to come with us at times. It was only used on occasion, which was perfect. But with the 3rd row down, I loved the cargo room. I’m going to test drive this model.
With the third row up you can stack shopping bags from the grocery store without them moving around all over in a bigger trunk. And of course if you want more space you just bring the third row down.
Thanks for the nice review Sam. Looks like the Canadian model is better equipped than the American model. Still not as good as the Korean spec model. We also get quilted Napa leather, a beautiful two tone steering wheel, and the rotary shifter that adds "smaht pahk". I really love this new Sorento!
Just purchased this a couple days ago or my wife and our family car and my lord I’m amazed love this car worth every penny also got the forte GT line for myself amazing car as well
In your comparison to the Telluride you didn’t mention the difference in the width. It looks like the middle row seats are pretty close together in the Sorento.
Looks great! I love how you did your KIA review in the GM/Caddy dealership lot! 🤣 any intel into where this particular model is manufactured (the Canadian version). One source had said Georgia USA and I think it would be a bonus to support North American made if this is true. Thanks for the very thorough review & tour!
Contrary to the comment in the review, as far as I know all Sorentos sold in Canada are AWD. That's understandable considering most of Canada's winter climate where AWD is a far more popular configuration than in the US. Furthermore, coupling the more powerful turbo engine with FWD is not necessarily a good choice anyway since the prodigious torque is difficult to manage without significant torque steer and wheel hop in a front wheel drive configuration. Unfortunately, some of the other differences between Canadian and US spec Sorentos are more difficult to understand as anything other than cost cutting measures. The thigh extension for the driver offered in the previous generation has been dropped in the US version of the Sorento. Four way lumbar support is likewise gone, reduced to two way. The most grievous deletion in the US version, however, is driver seat memory. Our 2018 Sorento is driven by my wife, my teenage daughter, and myself. Having settings for at least two drivers is more than a minor feature. Its deletion in the US spec of the new generation comes close to a deal breaker and is especially puzzling in a "family" SUV. All in all the two Sorentos my family has owned (2012 and 2018) have been "Goldilocks" vehicles for us. The same overall size as the Ford Edge, Hyundai Santa Fe, and the Honda Passport, the third row of the Sorento is usually stored under the cargo floor but when we need it to transport six or seven passengers for a local trip it's a huge convenience compared to taking two vehicles. The fact that the US version is missing a number of features available in Korea is understandable considering that in Asia the Sorento doesn't compete against either the Telluride (sold almost exclusively in North America) nor does it face significant competition from Honda, Toyota, Nissan, or so-called "American" brands. (e.g. Ford, Chevy, Jeep/Dodge). In effect, in Korea the Sorento's rivals are base level versions of luxury brands. More puzzling is why the Canadian spec Sorento offers a number of premium features missing from the US version.
@@SamCarLegion That's correct. And with the base NA engine, it's probably fine. Moving up to the turbo 4 banger, however, makes AWD a far better choice.
Tell me you're an American without telling me you're an American... Whining about having to manually adjust the seats in my vehicle is a MAJOR problem and potentially a deal breaker. Meanwhile the world experiences life changing problems.
This trim u have come with optional ambient lights? And can i get it with white exterior color.? I think this Sorento will look gorgeous with white exterior color in my opinion. I never see one with white exterior color I only see these with blue exterior
@@SamCarLegion I understand , but you keep on seeing reviews saying KIA’s are featuring a lot of upscale amenities and nobody is putting the luxury SUV’s to a head to head comparison... For someone looking to upgrade my 2016 Sorento ( wich I really like ), I cannot find a review that can show en me if the price difference is worth it between a KIA/ Hyundai or a Lexus, Acura or even a German car...
KIA made at least one fatal flaw. They do not offer Driver Seat Memory on any trims, including the SX-Prestige. This is a MUST HAVE feature for households with more than one driver. Come on KIA...fix this flaw!
Would love it if it had an option for no 3rd row and just a bench 2nd row (would prevent dogs from getting through). I only hope the new Tucson will have the same power.
@@Faisal-sf1gh NOT Sorento S. Why is it if we don't want a 3rd row, we have to settle for the anemic non-turbo engine and fewer interior/safety comforts? PPpttthhh to that. No sense. I've sat and driven in both, while the Santa Fe is the configuration that meets my needs, I am not a fan of the Santa Fe interior/center console and especially push button drive selector. Swap the Santa Fe seating/storage options with the Sorento, and I would have a Sorento SX Prestige AWD right now.
I might actually agree with you on the Sorento being a better choice than the Telluride it is cheaper to maintain, better gas milage but if you can afford the Telluride why not get the Telluride instead? :)
I bought the Sorento over the Telluride because I didn't want it to be so labourous getting around the vehicle after being parked in the garage. Also, have you ever washed a Telluride roof???
Great review Sam, I am currently looking at the Sorento and the Sante Fe as the next vehicle to buy.I was wondering if the top line model in the Sorento has memory seats, ventilated front seats, and heated second row seats?Would like to see a comparison between these two when you have time.Thanks.
@@SamCarLegion I am cross-shopping these two cars. I like Santa Fe for heated seats on second row and regular bench instead of captain chairs. I however prefer the Sorento's exterior and interior design (dash, transmission, center console). I hate that X-Line (in Canada) is not offered with higher trims. Hard to decide.
John...I love the Santa Fe as well. But I prefer the styling of the Sorento. But you're right about the bench seat. I wish they at least offered it as an option in the top Sorento.

we almost picked up an atlas thank f we found this we have this exact model and it's the most amazing vehicle I've ever seen.
that lack of bench seat in 2nd row in the top trim is an absolute deal breaker for me

best in segment for sure.
Why didn’t Kia use the new redesigned logo ? The old logo gotta go....the suv is gorgeous
We went with the Xline version of the Sorento. Couldn’t be happier - lack of truck space resolved with roof rails and cargo box if needed.
It’s an awesome vehicle
I bought one from Classic Kia in Beaumont Texas
Great SUV! You can compare it against GLB, CX9, Highlander all similarly priced. Hopefully you can review the plug-in when available.
Noted!
In your comparison to the Telluride you didn’t mention the difference in the width. It looks like the middle row seats are pretty close together in the Sorento.
Really enjoy your reviews. Great work. 👍🏾.
Plus, seeing a Mississauga bus drive by was pretty cool.
