For mine the Santa Fe has the edge. It may be a symptom of my age group (60s), but I get the feeling that the Santa Fe is more sedate and offers a comfy ride compared to the more sporty ride in the Kia
I literally visited the dealership to checkout these two cars today! Great comparison. On interior, my wife and I agree that Hyundai tries really hard to be different with the styling. But Kia is just more functional and easier to use

Just bought the Santa Fe Highlander and love it. I've heard a few reviews(including this one) claim that Apple Car Play is split screen only. Rubbish. By default it is split screen but in the display settings unticking the split screen option allows full screen carplay.
The 2000kg towing limit on the Sorento is such a dumb oversight by Kia, especially since it's rated to tow 2500kg with the 2.2D everywhere else like NZ and the UK. And clearly, if the Santa Fe can do 2500kg, so can the Sorento. Quite a few popular caravans have tare weights just over 2000kg and towball weights under 200kg that you can't legally tow with the Sorento, even though it would obviously be fine. I'm hoping this is something they either fix with the next model year, or even revise after the fact, because one of these two vehicles we be my next purchase, and I like the look of the Sorento better.

Hey Kevin, Sounds like it's equipped like our top line Sorento called the "GT Line" which has the panoramic sunroof, everything you mention. Does yours have the remote parking feature where you can use the remote to park in a tight car park space and does yours have a camera mounted below the side mirrors, so when you are driving and change lanes the image is displayed in the instrument binnacle, so you can see any oncoming traffic in the lane you are about to change into? I love both these vehicles a lot but for me personally I would choose the Santa Fe. I think a fair comparison would be when the Santa Fe gets a full redesign.
I looked at both and preferred the Santa Fe (Canadian market). Both excellent vehicles. Too much cheap looking gloss black plastic, faux rugged interior styling and less comfortable seats in the Sorrento, plus Kia force you into captains chairs in the second row on higher trim levels over here. Both a very solid choice though.
Unfortunately Kia Australia won't offer 2nd captain's chairs in Sorento. Better (& more comfortable) separation for kids on trips. I don't often use 7 seats, and wish Kia would offer the option, like Hyundai Palisade (too large for my needs) in Australia

Kia Corporate gave us the run around, telling us they would send our service request upper management to have it approved. After 3 weeks, they finally told us that no our car wasn’t under warranty! What?! It’s like they didn’t even read what we submitted. Kia doesn’t know how to fix their own vehicles and doesn’t care if they break down multiple times. This has been a horrible
I like both of these cars (minus the piano black trim on the Sorrento) - but why, oh why, did the designers think the third row seats need vent/air controls - but the middle row only gets vents? Odds are - you will have people in the second row WAY more than you have in the third row. It wouldn't have cost that much more to give the second row it's own set of air controls. Just sayin. This is a contentious point. It has been changed to the same 'platform' as the Sorento. But what one OEM calls a platform can differ to what another says is a new platform. We say it's a facelift because it uses the same body in white, but has revisions to its styling and cabin treatments. Without pulling the two apart and checking subframes and metal pressings, it's hard to actually state just how much is shared on the new 'platform'. Cheers Matt
Looking at both, I would go with the Kia. The surround cockpit feel of the Sorento is not my preference. The extra two years of warranty also tip me towards the Kia. Love the look too!
I have to disagree with many of your review points...While I am in the USA in 2023, I drove both before deciding. I found the Santa Fe far superior to the Kia in almost all area's. The features and design of the Kia felt less enjoyable, less quality. The seats were uncomfortable and personally the push buttons shifters once you get use to it is far more intuitive and safer. Who needs 3 usb ports in your face. Stereo is terrible. Kia too much silver shiny stuff. As for handling the Hyundai is much more nimble. Over all although subjective (as is your opinions) The Santa Fe kills the Kia for less $$! We don't get diesels here, just the awesome 2.5L 4 Cyl. with 8 speed regular auto trans. Dual Clutch Trans are not reliable in the long run. BTW the 3rd row is way too tiny and useless unless you have little bitty kids. To bring it to a dealer and “see what I can get” for it. I owe more than it’s worth because one thing they don’t tell you when you buy a Hyundai is they depreciate way faster than you can make payments to survive. DO NOT BUY A HYUNDAI.
Do the pajero sport vs the Santa Fe
Sorento for me🥰
Sport + ... get mine in 2 weeks...
Just an FYI, 182cm is not 6 foot, 183cm is, so you’re almost, or just under 6 foot.😁
Man Kia would be perfect but it just needs the sun shade
The Santa Fe is much more comfortable and premium.. The driving is pretty much similar in both, though Kia is a tiny bit rough
Isn't the SantaFe a platform change and not just a face lift?
This is a contentious point. It has been changed to the same 'platform' as the Sorento. But what one OEM calls a platform can differ to what another says is a new platform. We say it's a facelift because it uses the same body in white, but has revisions to its styling and cabin treatments. Without pulling the two apart and checking subframes and metal pressings, it's hard to actually state just how much is shared on the new 'platform'.
Cheers
Matt
@@carsguide Thanks, appreciate the details Matt :)
Looking at both, I would go with the Kia. The surround cockpit feel of the Sorento is not my preference. The extra two years of warranty also tip me towards the Kia. Love the look too!
sorry surround cockpit of Sante Fe is not my preference
I prefer KIA Sorento for sure
Sorento for me
Hyundai has 10 years roadside assistance not 5…
I have to disagree with many of your review points...While I am in the USA in 2023, I drove both before deciding. Anyway I chose the Santa Fe...However the 2024 Santa Fe is gonna be interesting!
You lucky if you can just buy it in your country. Here we have a great deficit of cars, dealers add $5-10k to MSRP
The Santa Fe Calligraphy wins
Santa Fe anytime
I thought 2021 Sorento uses the dial transmission knob...
In the higher level GT line
Depends on the spec. GT-Line gets the dial, the rest have a stick (in Australia).
Cheers
Matt
I got a Gt line sorento and its got dial type. I miss the gear stick rather than dial type. I could rest my left hand on the stick now i cant.
Santa fe 👍
I like the Kia.. But its atad over priced for me..id buy the Kia sports Hatchback.
Santa Fe Highlander
I will wait until they have wireless Apple Car Play. Cannot believe they do not have it when many of the cheap cars have it now.
Sorenta has . I have on my Sorenta EX AWD even on the smallest display
No clear close up of boot space.
Kia Sorento👍👍👍👌
Sorrento! Sophistication.
Pit the winner against the CX8
Without a doubt Kia sorrento far better
Hyundai 🙆👍kia🙆🙏👍
Kıa sorento 2021 en çok iyilik
You cant be that simple....
They are one and the same vehicle
Why did you not use the top of the range with the sorento, u making it look bad😂
Both of these are the mid range specs sport + and the Elite
I feel like I would go to the Santa Fe.
Sorento the winner
sorento it is
6ft =182,8 cm
Kia Sorento Sport + for sure.
Nice ears !
