Wait a damn minute. You’ve just solved so many problems in my life w/ this find.
Please stay in touch, we miss you and want to know how its going with your apt. It doesn't need to be all plants all the time. Some of your hangers should be able to loop over the rod. Make sure your S-hooks will fit over the rod. Get a 12" level. Theyre incredibly useful for straighening pictures. Re the weight and length, people hang wet laundry over shower tension rods. Good luck. Youre doing well. Peace.
An inexpensive level is a persons great friend!
Some phones have levels built in….apple for sure has for a few generations
I think they look so good! Maybe you can do multiple tension rods to get more plants up and out of the way. With as large as your windows are it would be a vibe 🪴🌿🍃
Yes I was thinking the same and the rods with cover more of the window.
Dude if you aren’t feeling up to it then don’t! You need to do whatever it is that will help you feel better that will bring lil moments of joy and in time those moments will collect up enough to turn back into motivation. Do not feel shame or guilt for not making videos. You do not owe us anything, not even videos. But owe yourself love and peace. Plants go through shock when they’re uprooted even if they’re put in a pot w better conditions they still take a break as they settle in and refind the strength to to grow again, and they don’t feel bad about it. Take that lesson from your plants, give yourself some time. We’ll be here.
Nick, I love your content bc you always unintentionally crack me up. Thanks for the video and I’m glad you were able to hang up some plants in your new place! 😊
Same..lol.. he’s too damn cute.. always brightens my day 😊
We’re not here for the perfect apartment- we’re here for you. Plants. And community. Whatever you share is worth our time. We know it regardless
THEY WILL NOT FALL. THAT ROD IS STURDY !! If you want alternatives to the long S hooks, macrame a length, loop it over the rod, close it at the bottom and hook it to your plants. Small chains work also.
To find out the paint color you can take off a light switch cover, take off a small chip of the paint, and bring it to a paint store to have the color remade!
Oh my Lanta I love you, Nick! The rod looks great and very sturdy. I've been using a "heavy duty" 30lb tension rod in my bathroom for over a year with 5 plants on it with no issues and it's just the simple twist kind- yours seems way more legit with the locking system! It's such a good alternative to drilling! Good luck on your S hook hunt, it will look great with the staggered lengths!!
You had me cracking up all up in this video but 7:03 😂💀 also I use a basic tension rod that just twist to tight/loosen and it’s been up for over a year with no issues so that rod you got there ain’t going nowhere! 👍🏼
I love how you share your thought process. I often stress over details and because I’m a pretty visual person I often have to do something, step back and then make changes. Thank you for making me feel more normal.
I was going to post a similar comment!
TENSION POLE PLANT STAND please check it out!
takes up little space but can fit a lot of plants (mine has 14! mostly hanging)
I haven't seen people in the US use them but these used to be super popular here in Poland in the 80s
I’m only half way in but if those are a little dry leave room for water weight! Lol don’t make the mistake I did.
I literally went around like “ohh you’re light… you’re light too… and you are… and you and you” and I never held up all at the same time while being freshly watered. And at first it was fine and then one day everything looked a lil off, I now know that “little off” was that they had slid down a small bit, just slowly sliding down until one day I started watering and the extra water weight pulling on one half of the bar before I could get to the other half it just fell. It was a mess! 😂🤦🏻♀️
So just a warning.
Glad to see you, we missed you! Your commentary always makes me laugh. Not sure that's what you are going for, but you are so genuine and often reacting exactly how most of us do.
I feel like Nick gets funnier when he's passive agressive about his apartment...
@@Darenim agree!
I feel the same way about those manual’s wordings
So nice to see you back Nick! I’ve missed you and your content.
I use the s hooks on my curtain rod to hang plants also and I like to alternate them with shower curtain hooks to create levels of plants.
I hope that we will be seeing more of you!
Happy Holidays 💚❤💚
If you are not comfortable about the tension rod , take a wood block and attach it to the wall right under the rod where it hits the wall .. of course reapeat the same on the other side . IF you do not want to put nails in or screws use alien tape . You are such a sweetheart .
Omgosh,Nick!!! We’ve been waiting on you! I miss your calming energy!
I’m sorry that you’re stressed feeling cumbersome in your ‘ shit happens, shit apartment’ we’ve all been through it. But you have so many fans backing you! Push through, it sucks but you’ll be better, stronger for it!
Hugs and happy blessed thoughts are with you HONESTLY
Merry Christmas
Happy New Year-Colleen from Naples Fl
Yayyyy, we missed you Nick! Sorry to hear about the continued struggles with the apartment, hoping your days get better ❤
Edit: Home Depot and such stores also have S hooks in various sizes, as did my local mom&pop hardware but cheaper at the big box of course.
Also I would say it’s prob not the weight so much as make sure to be careful the bar doesn’t shift as you take (heavy, watered) plants on and off.
The hardware portion of the store will have S hooks that are more multi function and sizes than the houseplant section.
You can get 3.5” s hooks on Amazon. I use this along with the longer s hooks to stagger my plants. I have tension rods in my skylights with 10” hbs on them. They have fallen off once only because with heat and cold, the rubber ends expand or contract, loosening the grip. So now I double check when the temps change.
I have missed you and your videos and of course your beautiful kitty! I appreciate this video as I have a similar problem! Thank you so much!
What I use.... plumbing pipe.... it's cheaper then whatever that is.... it's stronger and holds more... you can make it any height..wish I could show you mines
The physics of suspension poles/bars works when there's more weight on it. Yea, too much weight will break and be greater than the friction that's between the end of the pole and the wall, but those companies invest a lot of research funding to know the limit is 60lbs.
Good to see you retro fitting your apartment. The rod will work just fine. Breathe and enjoy. Happy to see you filming, again.
🙂🙃🙂
I use a tension rod as well. To preserve sanity, tapped a discrete paneling nail (beige) under each end of the rod into the wall. Just for the added support and peace of mind.
Also made my own 3” S hooks from wire hangers in the closet using basic pair of pliers.
I once had a tension rod floor to ceiling it held 5 plants, I totally loved it. You might look into thoes peel n stick hooks they won't hurt your walls.
You’re so unintentionally funny 😂 It’s so good to see you Nick!
You’ve given me New Year’s inspiration for plant hangings!
Great idea, re: tension rods. I use shepherd hooks (for outside) stuck in 5 gallon pails of gravel. Cheap and moveable. I bought an extension ladder that you can configure in various ways, fold over for shorter sturdier one. Even though I rent it comes in super handy, especially at 02:00 AM when the battery needs changing in the smoke alarm on that super tall ceiling! Great for painting, hanging plants....there when you need it. Grab one on sale/clearance at your local hardware store. Depending on my space I leave it set up and temporarily put stuff on it. 😊
This video made my day. I too am totally leery of tension rods and would have been as dramatic and anxious about it all as you are. Therefore, I have yet to put one up. Looking forward to an update. I thought the "Luxury condom" sticker in the window added to the entertainment value of your video. Looking forward to your next video. Thanks, Nick.
It's a good idea. I would try it too, as soon as Winter cold is not on the other side of the window. We are all big and can handle some set-backs.... try and try again. It's a crazy time when you move. It takes 12 months to get a place really cozy, but you might be faster. Ask for suggestions in a hardware store, about securing that fixture, to assure stability, so that you can be confident about it. Rain is good to clean the air. Get some good sleep. You have many friendly friends out here, wishing you well. That should soothe your soul somewhat and give you creative energy. Some of us might envy you for having a new home to style. Some of us don't want to be where we are, as far as the building goes. It's hard to find a new, affordable home. We are still looking. Best wishes for you, in your new place.
Great job Nick! Stay in touch, you’re going to make it through these character building challenges. Hang in there plant friend!💚
Hi Nick! It's so good seeing you again! I didn't get the notification when it came out. ;-( I'm so sorry that you are still having problems with your apartment. Please feel free to vent to us because we are here for you, and I think it helps when you can talk about things. I like your idea of the tension rod. It looks good, and your plants look great! There are a lot of ideas below for using more than one per window. That would look good, too. I hope it works out for you. I'm anxious to see what you end up adding to your windows. Thank you so much for sharing!
Smile Mate 🙂💜
I know it sucks to be living somewhere that you don't want to be, BUT just imagine how good your next place is going to be !
This will only be a short time even though it feels like a long time now. 💚👍🇦🇺
"Gurl, she's looking level now." I love it.
I'm sorry your apartment has come with so many issues! I love old building aesthetics, but they're definitely more fun to look at than live in. I've found the biggest benefit to buying your own home is that during the inspection process you find (the vast majority of) the invisible issues that you wouldn't see with renting and can back out and change your mind, or fix them before moving in.
Hey Nick. I had the same problem as you. I got a shower curtain rod (they come in different lengths) and put them in my windows. I put one up high and one lower in my windows (2) and they worked perfect. They were a lot cheaper also. I was able to hang 4 on top and 4 on the bottom. So 16 plants in two windows. Good luck..Believe me they can hold a lot more than you think..
I was thinking the same-shower tension rod.
Loving the idea. I was feeling the anxiety through the screen. I'm always acting this way when doing a project by myself- 🤣 "it's totally fine.." while pulling in the tension rod. Such scary moments
Hope your christmas is a fun timexxbest wishes for 2023.xxx
Fantastic option. Well done, Nick! 😀
Hi Nick. I have a similar problem with my walls. They crumble badly. I've been using metal magnetic spice shelves as plant shelves. From Amazon. They come in a few sizes and black and white and Il be getting more for my storage heater radiators which also arnt in use. These magnets will hold any plant.I can't even move them when I try to. Maybe give them a try if you have any metal surfaces around. They look great. Good luck with your apartment.

NICK! YOU ARE SIMPLY DELIGHTFUL! SO GLAD YOU ARE SHARING WITH US AGAIN!
One more solution. Get wire shelves and arange them parallel to each other. Besides the fact you can put plants on them you can buy cheap poles from Ikea and have them go between the wire shelves. You can pack so many plants in front of the widow using wire shelves.
This.
I bought the racking system from Costco (each wire shelf can hold 2000 lbs) for my aquariums. A small seating area between the shelves allow a plant rod above (84" high) that is rated for 100 lbs (so can easily hold my hanging plants even after a thorough soaking).
My living room is slowly transitioning into a little corner of nature.
Totally worth the expenditures!
I'm in a north facing apartment, so no sun.🤔 Costco shoplights are growing my salads as well as my houseplants and aquarium plants.
Monstera deliciosa is indicating it might even fruit next year. Innovation just requires thinking outside the box, patience, and ingenuity.
Please keep in touch.. I enjoy your videos.. This tension rod idea is fantastic! 💚🎄
I have a few hanging on a tension rod in my plant room and it’s a cheapo one and it works great. It’s important to keep the weight fairly evenly distributed across the pole and it should be fine.
I have some s hooks from target that are currently holding the heaviest goddamn burro's tail in a heavy pot. It's probably 10-15 lbs.
Hey Nick, you seemed very stressed during this video.
Are you not loving your new apartment ? You are usually so easy going and positive about things ???
Glad to see you back at it.
Thanks for the demonstration!
As others mentioned, shower curtain rods and shower curtain hangers are a cheaper and easier to find product for this project.
I’m sure you’ll enjoy your jungle wall!
😺✌️
Nick can you bend those S hooks to hang two plants instead of one? It might also provide various heights without having to buy more of them. I like the idea. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. All the best!
I was yelling at him to do the same thing! 🤭 Well, that and to raise the tension rod, which I'm glad he did do. Though, I was just thinking to bend them in half to make them shorter, but bent to give varying lengths... Never thought of that! Genius! 🤓
@@Jen_S_Hassler1258 Great minds think alike!🙃
Have you thought of stringing the top of the macrame hangers through the tension rod just before inserting the rod ? I like your ideas, thanks.
This is my favorite way to utilize window space! Try a pack of shower curtain hooks to hang on the rod. :)
The good news is that you can confirm that window washing is provided before you sign your next lease. 😉
Benjamin Moore or Lowe’s can color match with a little chip of paint, no problem. Like, spot on. I have touched up massive drilling projects. I have no idea what color my walls are.
The windows probably both can fold into the apartment so you can clean the outside. Start with the bottom one. Lift it open halfway. Then look at the outer top for clips that you can push toward center to release the top from the frame and it will carefully be able to tilt in towards you. Clean. Then pull the top window down and on top you will see clips again… probably just on top instead of on the outside side of the window. Carefully fold down towards you to clean while the other is folded open too.
Omg I’m so happy to see a new video from you 🎉. We miss you so much and hope you’re hanging in there with everything going on in your place ❤
Just a thought, shower curtain hooks might work for you. Alot shorter and some are very decorative. Miss seeing you.
Do not worry about the dirty windows. The "filtered" light on the glass will keep your plants from being burned. I have orchids hanging in my dining room and had to buy a "filter" to cover my windows, when the light came through the glass and burned the leaves of my plants. I found a window filter that is a type of pliable plastic that has a cool design in the plastic and sticks to the window without any gummy stuff. It makes the windows look about as filtered as yours. I think your plants will be fine with the filtered light from those windows. Looks great as you have it!
This is great! Thank you for sharing! And you are fun, I needed that
You can get those exact S hooks from the dollar tree. I buy all mine there.
I've had tension rods fall on me before. Overloaded of course.
I own my own home and I love my drill but hate drilling into the walls. It freaks me out my house is 120 odd years old and I worry hehe
Glad to see you. I hope thing start getting better soon and hope muffin is doing ok.
Have fun
that tension rod can handle those plants and more. no worries!
Curious how the hanging plants will fare in the winter when the window glass gets really cold?
Thank you for such a clever idea. 💚
You could also consider doing like a blanket ladder and lean it against the windows and have plants on it
Don't tighten that rod too tight against the wall cuz it will go right through the wall....been there, done that. LOL Looks good really!!
It's a great idea and looking fabulous - Going to be even more fabulous when you finish it with your vision! Not the least worried about the rod, I'm concerned about the loud noise that come from the bathroom!! 😂What the heck?!? 😱😂
My 1st visit to your place and I wanted to more of that corner I'M JUST SAYING. You could've done an wide angle with an edit, I'm trying to help, couldn't you hear me yelling at you? At the end you said you were stepping away we wanted to see MORE. I'm exhausted from helping, What is that tall plant on your left staked to? Looks cool. I'm having some champaign I recommend U do the same.
OMG!!! I loved listening to you trying to figure this out and going back and forth with your thoughts. 😂😂😂 I do the same thing all the time, it’s exhausting. Love your videos.
Your personality is *chef's kiss*
I’ve never seen a tension rod like that before. I have faith you’ll get it though.
The one I use are twisty and you twist the rod (creating tension)in the window pane, no little buttons or little holes.
I’ll have to try some plants on my tension rod, I have 4 floor to ceiling windows 104” tall and 94” wide.
So many windows in my house, but so much more room for hanging plants 😅 I’m gonna try! Thanks for giving me some inspiration
Nick, you are just not like yourself. You don’t seem motivated or happy. I blame that apartment! It is definitely not for you. I hope you are actively looking for another place. I understand that moving all your plants is a pain, but if you find the perfect place, where your head is in the right space, the move will be worth it!
Sending good thoughts ❤️💕
IKEA and even Target have some inexpensive clothes hanging racks that work great for hanging plants, especially in front of windows. Just look for styles you like and you can use long S hooks to hang double rows. Good luck! 🍀
Anyone notice the sign, bottom right of the window. Gorgeous plants, thanks for the inspiration, my kitchen window needs this. 🇬🇧👍
Just started watching you - and I LOVE you!😂 I went thru the same garbage (French pronunciation) when I put one of those things up to curtain off my closet office!
@Nick Pillegi I use the S hooks that are for hanging shower curtains for hanging my plants (I have over 100 house plants) basically anywhere I can find and I have never had 1 fall and I hang heavy plants. You can find a bag of them at dollar stores.
OMG, I was screaming at you; MOVE THE DAMN TENSION ROD UP!...lmao, maybe you heard me ; )
I got some shelving someone tossed. I put the shelving in front of my window. I don't hang my plants because my cat thinks they are toys. The other thing I got
free was a bunch of plastic milk crates. Tina, Al's wife
Hello) Cool plants you have, thanks for sharing! We'll be in touch)
With my trust issues and anxiety I would probably hang a bag of potatoes on it for a week and randomly wake up to check it 😂 Thanks for the video
I just came across your channel ,you are so much fun ! If I may, offer advice..I cut wire coat hangers to make hooks to hang plants on ,they can be cut to the size needed. The tension rod should work perfectly, I have one I just put up with lights on it and eucalyptus vines and flowers to hide tension rod.
I wouldn't test the weight with the rod either. I learned my lesson with the 3M claims....I've had things fall from the walls.
I used tension rods and my plants fell 3 times. I made my own hangers that work perfect. It's hard enough being a gay in Philly i don't need to worry about my plants falling. :(
OMG, I so enjoyed watching this! I laughed so hard at your drama, you are so sweet & so entertaining. But more importantly you gave me the best idea
As soon as you took the rod out, started messing with it and showed what it looked like I was like oh yeah that's a heavy duty one right there. That's not your typical tension rod whatsoever 💪I'm only a quarter of the way through your video so depending on how it works out 🤞I'll be getting one. I have the perfect window for it.
water weighs A LOT. like surprisingly a lot in a small pot, so be careful watering them or handing them after watering. make sure all the excess water has drained out before you hang it back up. but this is such a great idea, i’m going to try this at my place!
Dude, you had me laughing once you started to put up the tension rod. You've got all the muscle and smarts you need as a single male. God is the one who endowed you not us. If it was us humans, dude you'd be in trouble. We all have different ideas and for sure you'd be Frankenstein. Yah, there I'd see ya needing some help. But you were all good, did all good and I'm sure you did an A1 job. You are wise to go little little with the rod's ability. At the same time you'd gain more trust in the rod and what you did. It's a pleasure to watch your journey with plant life Nick. Yah, I did notice I hadn't seen ya for a minute. But do you Sir. See ya when you want to share with us. Have a blessed one and a good Holiday.
I love your videos! You are so funny! 🤣
Hysterical!! Loved this!
Looks good, hilarious entertainment. Love your plants, I may try to do the same thing, not because I can't drill into the wall, its just a cool idea.
Is there a digit missing from the Luxury Condom telephone number advertised in bottom right of your window? 😂
This is the best video I've ever seen! Thank you, Nick! I was rolling on the floor in hysterics!
What a great idea! My OCD self wants you to move the one on the left to the middle, but I'm all over this. Thanks for sharing!
Tension rods can be very sturdy, well done! I will be trying this as well for my hanging plants. 🙌🏼
I was literally screaming thru the video :D LOL tension rods work by tension, you need to create that tension by having to push more length than it is, so that they hold firmly at each end :D
This video showed up on my feed. What an absolute delight you are!! I’ll be tuning in from now on! 😊
You could do a DIY and use a closet wood rod with the closet brackets or depending on the width of your window area a shower curtain rod which is adjustable by tension. Which is basically what you have.
i’ve been thinking about you! i’m so sorry you’ve been having all these frustrations with your new apt.
That looks good. Where is Muffin? In the background making noise?
I have just an ordinary shower rod installed in my window and have one huge hoya and scindapsis silver splash hanging on it, it's getting a bit bent but it held on for more than a year now and it definitely can't handle more than 20 pounds of pressure.
Am I the only one who sees the Luxury Condom sign in the corner of the window🤣🤣🤣
