I could think of a lore reason for not getting the pistol until you arrive on the planet. Maybe enforcers are indentured servants or former convicts on probation and they can't have a gun until/unless they go where they're supposed to go in order to do what they're supposed to do.
The only other thing I can think of is the ala terminator thing of basically turning up naked and having to use things in the environment. And that these weapon drops are equipment appropirate for the given area. Though that seems a massive amount of work.
9:53 Never have I thought I would say that being shot by an enemy is pretty captivating. Seeing them plasma pellets homing into my face looks damn beautiful. Seeing them ricochet on the floor is just something that I can't describe.
You make a old game come alive. I'm new to your channel and the original doom was the game I grew up on.. Classic as I loved downloading levels.. Even created my own ages ago.. Half the town that I live in but never got round to finishing it... Keep up the good work
I always strive to look for these type of Doom mods that change enemies, weapons, pickups, etc. to where it doesnt feel like Doom anymore, but its own game. I mean there are plenty of mods that dont do this and are still fantastic, but total conversion mods are honestly my favorites to look for, I love seeing new stuff in the Doom Engine and seeing how far it can be stretched/tweaked.
Bless the creator of this mod for making a usable grenade launcher. You'd think it'd take an exceptionally cruel person to make an explosive weapon terrible, but goddamn is the grenade launcher not the second most abused weapon type in games right behind the almost never good flamethrower.
Epic has gotten a taste of that sweet Battle Royale bandwagon money. So much so, that they have abandoned their UT4 project in favor of Fortnite with the "promise" they will come back to it at a later date. At this point I am convinced the Unreal franchise is dead. UT4 never really looked all that attractive to me as a hardcore UT2004 player, and before Fortnite was even announced the project was already 3-4 years old in early access.
Hey there Mr. Icarus! Love your doom mod madness videos, love your style, thank you for creating them, i watch and like all of them and keep up the good work ! :)
That trick of showing you a vista of a place where you need to go is a level design trick called a "weenie". Designers at Naughty Dog LOVE to use it, as anyone who ever played any Uncharted (or Last of Us) game can attest.
Scope mod for assault rifle definitely does need to be implemented or even inclusion of sniper rifle for the full version in order to play in these open-world levels in this game mod. Pretty impressive looking total conversion, anyway! Reminds me of The temple of Lizardmen series...
This feels very turok esc, yaknow in a good way? Very awesome. Yaknow ICARUS, I use you as a good way of getting good doom wads and you've never disappointed.
I feel like if this mod comes out it should be a effical game like checks quest because if that was the opener then this mod will be huge and if the mod Creator keeps adding to it we will probably have a mod as big as mass effect probably weridly bigger
Hey Icarus! If you're looking for something to review, I have a couple suggestions. The first is a mod called "The Trooper". It's insanely good and insanely difficult. The weapons are chunky, the mechanics are interesting, overall a good time. The second is a wad called "Foursite". What sets it apart from other wads is that it's entirely a massive single map. The progression is very well done, it's split into sections that give you new weapons and keycards required to progress to the other sections, connected by one main hallway. It's amazing. For best effect, run both at the same time :D
Kinda sad looking at the mod page 4 years later and seeing that there's been virtually no progress made on it. Looking at the quality of the custom sprites and animations and also the two missions, this could of shaped up to be another Ashes 2063.
I've never played this, but I think you mucked up the mine section. You were given a flashlight in the beginning of the game. It was probably intended to be used there.
@@stayskeptic3923 It's so fucking shit. The leveldesign is the biggest piece of crap. Some levels are really good... but some are terrible beyond belief.
i certainly hope they add aim down sights. given the scale of some of these maps the immersion provided plus the assumed reduced spread would be very handy
when you review demos, you should precise it in the title like (demo)title. That will help differenciate videos for new comers for when you'll have reviewed the real deal.
I've already tried this mod: It's awesome! I can't wait for final release. Try also "Ashes 2063 (demo)". It's another awesome and very funny total conversion set in a 80s style post-apocalyptic word. forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=47573
everything is replaced. Enemies, Guns, textures. Partial conversions would still be having some of the old stuff, for example, something that is just new guns and maybe slightly *relatively speaking* changed monsters would be a partial conversion, ala Brutal Doom. If somebody had to tell you it wasn't Doom, it's a total conversion.
I wonder at what point it would truly be considered a new game. At some point, you'd think that someone could buy a license to use the engine and then actually sell the result. It'd still be better than 90% of the trash on Steam right now.
I have seen doom turned into an adventure game with no combat. I have seen Doom be used to recreate a 3D Sonic game. I have seen Doom be turned into a Strategy game ala Sacrifice. I have seen Doom Bowling. I have seen Doom be turned into a Shoot em Up top down space shooter It is a very well documented engine. And you're right, it is largely better then most of Steam
shuichiboy, actually the only technical difference between a game with a licensed engine and a TC is the requirement to have the base game installed. That's why I used killing floor as an example since it did it both ways, started as a total conversion then brought as a standalone. So I think the answer is that TCs are to be considered new games.
Shotgun looks like its drawn by a 9 y old. Too bad the graphics guy did not do any finesse, since its done from SW grenade launcher as a base, and that was neatly done.

Yeah dude I thought exactly the same!
wow, i didn't remember the doom engine could handle rain, even with the extra boost program
Cold as hell did it 10+ years ago just fine.
need to get back into the mod scene again then lol
Oh, we have way more than just rain these days some amazing looking wads out there. Check out the upcoming Doom Slayer Chronicles mod WOW!
Also check out Elementalism, both that one and Doom Slayer Crhronicles are pushing the engine to it's limits...
it was possible even in 2007 meh
looks like classic turok .. even sounds like it a bit
I was going to post this.....you beat me to it! Good on ya
turok 64...
THE UNIVERSE IS MINE.
Looks great indeed. Surprised it plays smoothly too, especially with the mirror effects. Can't wait for the full thing to come out.

I heard me a Timesplitters' Future Perfect SciFi pistol shots. Mod also looks really good.
I love that "this demo is only episode one" throwback to the original Doom 1 release.
I love the aesthetics of this mod. It's also kinda fun to look at all the textures and figure out where they came from originally.

literally looks like unreal.
You need more subs
yes
indeed
He needs less subs. 😏
Not the kind of mod I like to play, but it looks pretty impressive.
That shotgun looks a lot like the Shadow Warrior grenade launcher.
It reminds me the "Temple of the Lizardmen" later mods.
Every time I search for a judge dredd doom mod on youtube this video always comes up
This feels very turok esc, yaknow in a good way? Very awesome. Yaknow ICARUS, I use you as a good way of getting good doom wads and you've never disappointed.
Just played this. All this one needs is the rest of the levels and a good bit of balancing. Awesome TC.
The visual design of that shotgun seems to be modeled after the grenade launcher from Shadow Warrior Classic.
Sounds like a good adaptation of a Warhammer 40k Xenohunter Inquisitor.
I feel like if this mod comes out it should be a effical game like checks quest because if that was the opener then this mod will be huge and if the mod Creator keeps adding to it we will probably have a mod as big as mass effect probably weridly bigger

Reminds me of turok, seems inspired by turok as well the more I watch it,since turok has a similar auto shotgun
THAT'S JET FORCE GEMINI MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT'S AWESOME!!!!!!!! Underrated AF game!!!!
This is kinda reminiscent of Jet Force Gemini I love it, I also hear some familiar sounds in there :)
Um... Visit distant planets. Slaughter the inhabitants. Interesting game concept.
A clean and thorough review with fair criticisms.
The second mission's layout reminds me a lot if Zion Canyon from the Honest Hearts DLC of Fallout: New Vegas.

Hexa has to play this in his next live stream.
Gives me an Unreal vibe.
I guess its still on Hiatus i doubt it'll ever be completed but eh, i had fun
This is a better Unreal 2 than that inspired thing that bared the name.
Great episode! This was cool to watch after the GS2 stream! Keep up the amazing content
Hey! That's the Doom 3 plasma rifle! Or maybe it's the other way around?
9:17 Oh my god, this mod uses the indoor music from Body Harvest!
How can you tell? I love his videos but Mr. Icarus does have a nasty habit of talking over all game sounds a pretty constant pace...
This looks like a must play
Happy birthday Icarus
The green hand is really throwing me off
So this is the planet that Klesk from q3a comes from
This a damn good looking mod alright
I hope it doesnt become another foreverhood.
Wow that mod looks pretty dope!
I can picture using the Ratchet and Clank weapon mod or the Metroid mod for this.
I hope this takes a system shock type turn to it especially with the underground sections
This is pure black magic
Wooded areas look like they are ripped out of NAM.
Great looking mod; thanks!
Looks amazing! I'll try as soon as I can 😃
Please review Text to Doom. It is a minimalist masterpiece I can't get enough of.
Have you ever reviewed QuakeStyle Unbound yet? It's a weapon/enemy replacer for Doom that even has it's own Weapon-Wheel addon as well!
4 particular words this time
This Mod is A E S T H E T I C
Holy shit is that the grenade launcher sound effect from Terminator 2?
This should've been made in original Unreal
Here over a year later, and nothing new from the author. It's a shame, because this looks so very interesting.
Are those enemies sprite-versions of Klesk with a rocketlauncher from Quake 3 Arena?
Play Haunted Base it's a fun horror themed wad and pretty good for a first release.
Like Hidden and Dangerous pt1
Curious myself if this has been further developed, if you ever thought about doing a revisit.
Its in hiatus as far as i remember

To put it simply, a TC is like a whole new game.
Example : killing floor is a total conversion of unreal tournament 2004.
