Time to debut our new set-up while bringin’ it back to our roots with some David Gilmour!! Hope you guys are ready for an awesome week! Our Spring semester just started, let’s do it!!! 🔥🤟🏻
I don't think you've done this one before, but, I really think you'd like 'Bridge of Sighs' by Robin Trower. Back when I was in school during the 1970's, he was really popular and a guitar-god.
Sounds so great. His solo album "On An Island" is beautiful, and has harmony vocals from David Crosby and Graham Nash(of classic supergroup CSN&Y).So much sauce to get lost in.Have a good week- Cheers !
Love this proves you can get older and still do it he was 70 when he did this, imagine still having a voice like that and guitar playing like that at 70 years old, guys you need to check out the link below for a much more pared back Gilmour performance but one in which you can see no note is wasted ua-cam.com/video/o3O_Wi9UDfY/v-deo.html trust me you will love it
You should check out this song live fromThe Wall Berlin 91. Great visuals in it. That whole concert is lit with sauce. Great reaction. Thanks. Love your new set up.
If i could only listen to ten songs the rest of my life.. this song would be on 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, 1 and 2 will be Time and Great gig in the sky ;-)
catawbawarrior -Atom Heart Mother -One of These Days -Fearless -Echoes -Time -Us and Them -Have a Cigar -Shine on you Crazy Diamond (pts 1-9) -Dogs -Comfortably Numb (Theses aren't my top ten Pink Floyd songs, but this is a rotation that I will never get bored/tired of and one I cannot live without also we're allowed to listen to different versions of the songs, right?)
@@sweepist Concur. When I was a teen in the late 60s listening to Led Zeppelin (their first) my dear mother (God rest her soul) told me me that “this type of music won’t last”. Not only did it last but follow-on generations have embraced that genre and era of awesome groups and music. If my Mom could only know. Cheers!
David Gilmour is a GOD. I've been hearing the guitar solo from this song for over 40 years and I still get chills to this day. I will miss that Black Strat.
Apart from loving this and seeing it live a few times, all I got when I split up on the way to divorce in '86 was Through The Barricades by Spandau Ballet. Hit me at the time but probably not for this thread :-) Been your end at 18 and the other at 30 there's so much to life. Live it and Enjoy all you can, and always Floyd :-) Keep safe
When i heard Gilmour for the first time,i threw away my guitar, theres nothing that can make me play anywhere near that kind of standard,so i just kick back and let his genius enter my soul, willingly.

I really enjoy watching you guys reacting to music I grew up with. I was born in 1956 so in my teenage years there were so many great British bands (I’m a Brit btw). To watch them through your eyes and ears and to see your joy is like me hearing them for the first time again. Keep up the great work 👏 👍
cambridge5 I too was born in 1956 and grew up listening to the golden age of British music, the 1970's. Pink Floyd and David Gilmour were why I took up the guitar. I'm still playing, in fact, I was playing Shine on you crazy diamond about an hour ago.
Yeh your just a bit older than me my first Floyd album was Dark Side but by then I was already hooked on the Who and The Stone I feel so lucky that I've had 45 years of listening to this stuff
I saw them I think around 1972 ???? Stoned out of my mind !!!!! The only way to see them !!!!!! Great concert !!!!! In all I saw them 4 times during my life ! The best concert ever !!!!!! PEACE TO THE WORLD !!!!!!!!
I still remember the day when I bought the vinyl album of “Dark Side of the Moon”. I was rooming with ten other guys in a house. We shut the blinds, took the phone off of the hook, shut the lights off, put on our own light show and cranked the volume. We listened to the whole album. That was a memorable evening.
Took my kids, their first concert in life, to see Pink Floyd, which was Floyd's last tour. My daughter was 14 at time and to this day she is a huge fan and brags about them being 1st concert. Pink Floyd not just a concert, was an experience! Saw them in Alabama then came home to Atlanta and went again with kids because we knew they'd never get the chance to see them live again. Concert was at GA Tech and when we came out of concert, the streets were lined with college students for blocks outside, music was so loud they could hear concert outside! I've seen many, many of the greats, Pink Floyd still the best!
It does my old heart good to see young people enjoying the music of my generation. Because one doesn't merely listen to Pink Floyd. One EXPERIENCES Pink Floyd. Welcome aboard.
Nice setup! I don't know why but I get choked up from this song, it just hits me on an emotional level. It's a f-ing amazing song, played by true artists.
great new set up. Recently I was in a large electronics store, on one of there mega screen TV's they were playing a Pink Floyd concert, the crowd that had gathered ranged from 16 - 65, all head nodding what a great band that transcends a genre
I started listening to Pink Floyd when I was in college and this song and Shine on You Crazy Diamond made me so melancholic but so happy at the same time. These two songs made me think about life and made me grateful for what I had. Now that I'm 36yro Comfortably Numb hits me harder. The guitar solo is pure emotion, f*ck technique, he's making that guitar cry in perfect desolation and tired hope. The studio version is pure beauty and it always makes me shiver. This version live is God tier and I just want to hug him and thank him for making me feel so much in a world that is so numb.
Sadly, we will never get to see Gilmour play that Black Strat ever again as he auctioned it off for charity. I believe the owner of the Indianapolis Colts bought it for $3.95 million. Gilmour auctioned off his entire collection for more than $21 Million and then donated all the proceeds To fight climate change. Gilmour is just a great human being.
I saw him live some years ago and believe me: with the first note he picked, you knew it was Gilmour. The black strat was / is a guitar, he could make a $25 guitar sounds like him.
@@TheManOnTheRail UPDATE: The auction’s proceeds will benefit Gilmour’s charitable foundation, which he’s been running for decades. “The money will be going to the larger needs of famine relief, homelessness and displacement of people throughout the world,” Gilmour says, adding that the charities are both global and U.K.-centric. “We are going to work on the best way and the best balance of making what this raises do as much good on this planet as it can.”
That is.. "THE BEST" version of Comfortably Numb I have heard. Like a fine wine they get better with age as we all do. Thanks for sharing Forever Young 🖤
Chuck Leavell was in the Allman Brothers after Duane Allman passed and he's been in the Rolling Stones for about 35 years now. He took over the piano when Ian Stewart died.
The thing I've always loved about the song especially live is the paceing . They let the song breathe which makes the solo and the anticipation of it an out of body experience. This was a veteran rock band that just knows how to do it. Phenomenal
Gilmour ages like a fine wine...he absolutely kicks ass to this day. His second solo is at least twice as long on this video as it is on The Wall and I always hate when it ends.
And considerably longer yet if you can find the right mix of the Pulse concert with the remnants of Pink Floyd: the remarkable David Wright on keyboards and the remarkable Nick Mason on drums. I've seen at least 3 different mixes of the song from Pulse, and one of them takes in what I presume is the uncut full length of the closing solo which is a few minutes longer than what we're seeing here.
I was flying on psychoactives, sitting in seats at "center ice" about ten rows up at the Montreal Forum when they ripped into this tune, the energy and power that was being emitted from the stage was absolutely staggering . Great moment to experience.
I'm now 70 and will never forgive myself for not having attended a Pink Floyd concert. I have to say that I've seen full length televised concerts of a couple of the excellent PF tribute bands. Yes, they do an incredible job of simulating the original sound, spectacle and music note for note, in particular, the Australian tribute band. I didn't know it wasn't PF until the closing credits rolled. They play the giant arenas world wide to full houses and provide the experience. I listened to and was saturated in the music from Syd's days as their maestro, but it was pre-internet and the albums I had didn't have their photos on the covers, and I had no idea what they looked like. RIP Syd and David, but a robust Fuck You to Waters who can be regarded as a legendary songwriter but also a complete dick who to this New Year's Day 2023, still spreads his toxic vibes around any forum that will give him a microphone to speak.
I never tire of listening to David Gilmour and I have been listening to him for 45+ years I like the new set up Guys I hope it was a nice single malt in the decanter keep up the good work thanks.
I was 18 in 1973 when my best friend handed me the headphones and said "listen to this" I listened to the entire DSOTM album w/o interruption. I was hooked on Gilmour when I heard the Time solo! I still love it just as much today!
Saw them perform this song at night in the misting rain back in April of 1994 on the Division Bell tour at Texas Stadium when it was still standing. It was like time stood still. Amazing.
A&A - This is perfection. Yes. This is dark and soul-wrenching & I cry every time. Gilmour's guitar sings and I agree, there are no wrong notes when someone is so passionate. Note, the back-up singers had assistance... The audience (beautiful oneness). Truly loved it! Congrats on new decor! I do miss your chairs though, Alex waited so long to get one! lol. Perfect start, following Sunday... Cheers...Lovely start to the week, fellas! :)
I like Miles Davis' musing on "wrong notes": "There are no wrong notes in jazz: only notes in the wrong places ... It’s not the note you play that’s the wrong note - it’s the note you play afterwards that makes it right or wrong.”
6:02 I make that same face as Andy every time I hear David Gilmour make that Black Strat cry and scream like that; a thousand times hearing it and still...
I don't want to get too philisophical, but Andy mentioned David Gilmour's skills have diminished due to his age. Just think... In the history of the world, a miniscule of time, three decades (60s, 70s, and 80s), gave us arguably the best musicians, songs, and albums that will ever be. In the grand scheme of things, life is a vapor. There will never be this historically monumental, and timeless music, ever produced again.
@derstuka96 Yes, and we were lucky enough to have been born in the time frame where it’s still alive and actively consumed, I love it. So glad I discovered Floyd and this genre just a couple years back, early enough in my life where I can spend the rest enjoying it and carrying the torch proudly! I think real music will have a come back, but it won’t be the same
Gilmour has not diminished he gets better every second. You need to listen more and absorb every note and realize how versatile and perfect he is.There is Rock and Roll and way up here there is Gilmour,on the other side of God than Jesus.
The only thing that may have diminished are his vocals. His guitar playing is spot on. I don't think it is physically possible for him play this solo wrong.
@@andyandalex What an awesome reply.... So well put and we have his paying for ever. My problem is that my records are gathering dust. I don't need to get them out to play them 'cos I watching you reacting to them and jetting my fix at the same time.
Saw Floyd perform this at Maine Road, Manchester. Just surreal and spellbinding with the wind blowing through my hair and the heady scent of Cannabis in the air. AWESOME!
Man....tears streaming.Concerning the the tension/frustration you discuss in the solo, that's the beauty of live improvisation, especially when it is becoming so elevated that it's for all practical purposes "sacred", there is a poignancy in the humanity that is stretching to those heights, that evokes yet another dimension of emotional response. For me, I can only describe it as heartbreaking in such a beautiful way. As usual, great segment. I always enjoy listening with you guys and hearing your discourse.
I love that crunch sound he gets from his Fender. And he never plays it quite the same. He knows the spots so well he just bounces and teases you with the notes he will push. And no one does a light show like Pink Floyd!!
The album “Dark Side of the Moon” is a rock opera in that every song is one continuous story about former band member, Sid Barrett’s decent into madness.
Here is my story. There was this girl I liked , chase her for weeks. With no luck. Then I got tickets to P Flo ,and she said yes. Only to cancel 2 hrs before the show. Do you know how easy it is to get a date with those tickets in your hand? lol
It makes me cry and I'm not embarrassed. Great music gets to me emotionally. I'm called Zephead. But this is, without a doubt, the greatest solo ever. Sorry Mr. Page
Been watching/listening to this version ever since i found it on UA-cam. Having seen a ton of version of that song, i like David's solo here the best. And he's 70 in that video. Always leaves me speechless.
Went to Italy and visited Pompeii a few months after this concert. As we walked through the ruins they were playing Pink Floyd and I was moved to another dimension. I saw Pink Floyd live in high school and have always loved them, but the Pompeii experience was surreal.
The amphitheater of Pompeii is very ancient (it was built by the Romans in 70 BC). The Italian government has given permission to use it only 2 times: in 1971 to Pink Floyd for the "Live at Pompeii" concert, and in 2016 for the David Gilmour concert. It has never been used for other events or concerts. There is no need to add anything else.
Everytime I experience the Glory of Comfortably Numb it's like witnessing my own life review & remembering everyone I ever cared about, crossed paths with & loved. It's like being pulled out into the vast sea of pensive moments, both turbulent and beautiful memories and being led into a stratospheric catharsis. This is a song I crave but can only take in small doses. The levels of emotions that ensue take time to recede and settle back down. Pink FLoyd meant the world to my only sibling, my brother who died at only 42 years of age. We often listened to Comfortably Numb together in his car. No doubt, Good times plus super awesome music.
Bruce Metcalfe That version of Echoes should come with a warning: If you suffer from seizures, look away. Awesome light show. To hear a truly angry Gilmour solo, I recommend the outro to Murder from About Face. Only the studio version of this one will do.
I so remember being that age listening to Dark Side of the Moon. It is fun watching these guys enjoying music...brings back pleasant thoughts. Enjoy your lives. Rock on!!
I highly suggest another video from this concert. It's the Pink Floyd song "One of these days" Watching David Gilmour tear it up on the slide guitar. The tones he gets from it are amazing. You'll be missing out if you don't. And the new set up is great.
Like the new digs guys. I remember when it was just Andy in the bedroom and he introduced Alex to us all. You guys make a great team and are the best reviewers I've found. This version of Numb has way better sound quality than Plus. I just wish David could have played it the same. No matter he still has it and has no equal. Like myself at 68 it's tough to watch your idols get older.
I went to this tour when it hit Madison Square Garden....if you think it looks and sounds good on video, you cannot imagine how it looks in real life....You guys should also check out Gilmour's solo work...any Pink FLoyd fan should....his last album was so good...different sound than Floyd but so good...His best song is "No Way" from his 1st album.....do yourself a favor and listen to that album...
Great review guys! Those of us now in our 60's who grew up and aged along with Pink Floyd and other great bands have this unique appreciation for being born at a time when rock music was in its infancy, where there was nothing like it before, and has passed the test of time some 50 years later. And it's great to know each new generation that comes along can also be moved by these great songs and lyrics.
I saw them live at Knebworth (40 miles from London) in 1976. Knebworth is a hilly field that makes a natural arena. We were on top of the hill looking down the hill at the crowds and the stage. As dusk kicked in and the music soared over the Summer evening air, it was like being in a magical universe.
@@MegaHatLady heard you the first time. roger waters ill as a child, recounted in a song in his later life. bit more to it than that but you get my gist.
Saw Floyd in '87 at the (now sadly gone) JFK Stadium in Philly. Just me, six buds and 100,000 other close friends who all became one entity that beautiful late summer/early autumn evening.
You have been promising Echoes Part 2 live from Pompeii forever. It’s way overdue. Or you could just do the live version of the whole song from the “Remember the Night” concert.
In my opinion, DG is the master of string manipulation. His use of bends, fretting force, vibrato/whammy bar, etc. is all so subtle but so effective. It's hard to perfectly replicate because it's literally all feel.
Man i mean i listened that song at least a thousand times.. live at pulse live at pompei the studio version live in south america i mean literly evry version i could find.. and every fuckin time i have goosebumps and tears in my eyes!! Thank you Mr David Gilmour for one of the greatest songs ever written!
I was a senior in high school when this album was at its peak. I used to play this song in particular on repeat. I used to sit on the hood of my car early mornings down at the beach in LaJolla blasting this and looking at at mostly empty beach, waves... (I had 3hr free period 3x/wk early mornings) and it set me up for the day at school.

@@kikovazquez7277 Is being anti war, toxic ?
I never tire of listening to David Gilmour and I have been listening to him for 45+ years I like the new set up Guys I hope it was a nice single malt in the decanter keep up the good work thanks.
One thing's for sure, it wasn't apple juice.
I agree with anyone recommending watching the movie "The Wall", if have not done so... Amazing!
One of the beat songs ever. David Gilmour plays the most beautiful solos in his guitar. Pure magic.
Great choice, my friends. I will raise a glass with you, and wish that you both may always be rewarded for doing the thing you love.
It's like my wife said this song reaches into your soul.
This song brings tears to my eyes, for no particular reason other than it’s sonic majesty.
I like Miles Davis' musing on "wrong notes":
"There are no wrong notes in jazz: only notes in the wrong places ... It’s not the note you play that’s the wrong note - it’s the note you play afterwards that makes it right or wrong.”
@psbarrow
Damn, good quote, thanks for sharing!
@@andyandalex Herbie Hancock explains it quite well: ua-cam.com/video/C-GrRIgdmW8/v-deo.html
Definitely! And Dear Old Stockholm is a masterpiece!
Andre Previn: "Your playing all the wrong notes!"
Eric Morecambe: "I'm playing all the right notes-but not necessarily in the right order."
@derstuka96
Yes, and we were lucky enough to have been born in the time frame where it’s still alive and actively consumed, I love it.
AMEN!
That was the most autentic pink floyd reaction, shout out from Brazil guys! There aren't real artists nowadays
WOW A new place! I WAS THERE because i'm italian and live in Naples!
Saw Floyd perform this at Maine Road, Manchester.
Just surreal and spellbinding with the wind blowing through my hair and the heady scent of Cannabis in the air.
AWESOME!
This gig wasn’t Pink Floyd, it was Dave Gilmour only (plus his band obviously).
David Gilmour IS Pink Floyd... and Roger Waters just thinks he is.
@@jubaldurden4638 not really. Waters was the lyricist. Gilmour wrote the music. Together they wrote classics. Apart, not so much.
@@paulhagger3895 - You could let Justin Beiber write new lyrics for Comfortably Numb... and it would still be great.
@@jubaldurden4638 nonsense. The song is the sum of it's parts.
@@paulhagger3895 - So is a great painting, but nobody cares what it looks like on the flip side.
I love the expressions on your faces!😁 Also had chills through the solos. Thanks guys. ❤️
I love that crunch sound he gets from his Fender. And he never plays it quite the same. He knows the spots so well he just bounces and teases you with the notes he will push. And no one does a light show like Pink Floyd!!
Chuck Leavell's voice sounds eerily close to Roger Waters in this performance. David Gilmour knocks it out of the park, as usual. Great pick guys!
Ah, I remember seeing Floyd in the late 80's in Foxboro, MA. Great show.
David Gilmour shows being a great guitarist and playing beautifully has nothing to do with playing fast. He's incredible and distinctive.
Always: 'The child has grown, the dream has gone - I have become comfortably numb'.
Don't give up on your dream 💗
Hendrix-Beck-Gilmore. The father, son and holy ghost of the Stratocaster.
chuck madden You forgot SRV.
Eric Clapton
Hank Marvin
interesting... my choice would be IOOP Gilmour Santana Buckingham Clapton.
Page not Beck!
I love David's tone in this show. He really brought back his vintage tones, with the Big Muff and Electric Mistress flange. Sounds fantastic!
The album “Dark Side of the Moon” is a rock opera in that every song is one continuous story about former band member, Sid Barrett’s decent into madness.
Pink Floyd is spectacular in concert. A complete masterpiece always. Saw them slot, they never disappoint.
Here is my story. There was this girl I liked , chase her for weeks. With no luck. Then I got tickets to P Flo ,and she said yes. Only to cancel 2 hrs before the show. Do you know how easy it is to get a date with those tickets in your hand? lol
My first concert was Pink Floyd at Nassau Colliseum. 1975. I was 14. Never gets old. Thank You
Also try 'I want you she's so heavy' one of the best riffs ever and the Beatles playing like a proper band some good jams towards the end
Saw Pink Floyd in the 80s- A Momentary Lapse of Reason Tour...love this band.
I'm almost embarrassed that this guitar solo makes me cry every time.
Don't be embarrassed, be pleased :)
rather than be embarrased be proud to have such a great taste in music and to feel such a connection to it
Me too. They play to your soul. ✌✌
It makes me cry and I'm not embarrassed. Great music gets to me emotionally. I'm called Zephead. But this is, without a doubt, the greatest solo ever. Sorry Mr. Page
It's the only piece of music besides classical that can make me tear up
Been watching/listening to this version ever since i found it on UA-cam. Having seen a ton of version of that song, i like David's solo here the best. And he's 70 in that video. Always leaves me speechless.
Any set that has cocktails on standby is a fine upgrade.
SLOPPEWALL we thought so as wel
I've only seen them once back in the 70s but it still remains one of the most amazing experiences of my entire life! Just breathtakingly mindblowing!
David Gilmore truly a god.
@Alex Frost
Damn straight, the man just doesn’t play wrong notes.
mkbzam
Yes
Alex Frost. God is a David Gilmour fan.
Gilmore?
@@alexfrost8561 wrong, god is truly a david gilmour
OMG i loved reaction , pure art.
They were absolutely amazing live... their sound was always perfect...
Gilmour has always been one of my favorite guitarists, probably top 3 for me. Nice homey new set 👍
Still need to see "Echoes" Live at Royal Albert Hall in 2006. "Remember the Night" bluray
Yes! The best version of Echoes. The finale is just spectacular, and the musical conversation between Gilmour and Wright is so beautiful.
Rock on!!
You guys need to listen to “Do you feel like we do” from the “Frampton comes alive” album.
The bass line is so menacing and brooding which captures the mood of the wall so perfectly while a blazing solo is being played.
I highly suggest another video from this concert. It's the Pink Floyd song "One of these days" Watching David Gilmour tear it up on the slide guitar. The tones he gets from it are amazing. You'll be missing out if you don't. And the new set up is great.
That's part of why I love high hopes
I swear people don't give thst song enough credit, it's like a missing dark side track to me.
Pink Floyd has been my favorite band since I was a teenager. I'm 55 now and still jam to Floyd
Wow! what a cool new setup that I totally didn't see yesterday. ;)
HairFarmer I know right!
Gilmour's smooth voice and his guitar. Hypnotic.
The solos in this and Time are...well, timeless.
I see them 8 or 9 time live and still listing to it today at the of 64 and i love it
Lol. I went to crank up my stereo in my car, and realized I was on my phone.
Melissa Curtis happens to the best of us
That is cute..lol...🎶🎶🎶🎶💕🎀
Great review guys! Those of us now in our 60's who grew up and aged along with Pink Floyd and other great bands have this unique appreciation for being born at a time when rock music was in its infancy, where there was nothing like it before, and has passed the test of time some 50 years later. And it's great to know each new generation that comes along can also be moved by these great songs and lyrics.
Actually, that's the type of guitar solo that makes me reevaluate my attempts at playing the guitar.
NOBODY gets the emotion from those strings like Sir David Gilmour,Lord of the Axe.
Cockney Red What were they singing about??
@@MegaHatLady ?!?
Cockney Red What is the song about??
@@MegaHatLady heard you the first time.
roger waters ill as a child, recounted in a song in his later life.
bit more to it than that but you get my gist.
Cockney Red Oh, ok. I could never figure out what he was singing about. Just like Knights in white satin
Great version..man the sound live is crazy good.funny watching Andy who has stinkface going and Alex is just into the groove! lol
Love Floyd hey guys how about a classic rock band that’s a banger Mountain Mississippi Queen
And Nantucket Sleigh Ride, which was my favorite Mountain song.
One of the best guitar solos of all time.
Seen the wall in concert at earls court london, back in 1981,what an experience, still have ticket, programme and LP,masters of sound
Who says over the hill guitar players cant cut it.
Who said he's over the hill? Far from it.
Such good chillout music, I got the album in 79 and this track was the cue to wrap one up and chill
