Joeys hyper focused, almost robotic drumming, was the most hypnotizing act I’ve ever seen… until evgeny. Joey is my favourite drummer ever. Evgeny is like Joey 2.0
I filled in on guitar for Slaughter during their US tour in 2018. I can confirm Evgeny, or Eugene as we called him, is a total badass. Genuinely awesome dude, insanely funny and a ridiculous drummer. It was an honor to have him behind me on stage every night for 6 weeks :')

After years I finally found out that this "throwing hammer technique" (feels like whipping/lashing) really works just for everything: jazz, pop, rock, metal... everything. After all it's just all about to generate and to controll the power by throwing sticks, dynamics :-)
Notice: every time you feel your hands getting slower and stressed by faster blasts you have to find the point where your hands are just comfortable/relaxed with a tempo you play.
just when i thought Estepario was some of the fastest drumming I've ever seen, then there's this guy. Not only brutal speed but a lot of power and groove. No cheerleader twirls are refreshing for once. Leaves much more space for technique. The fact that he doesn't over use those brutal blast beats also and knowing when to hold back and push. So awesome
As someone who used to drum (and DESPERATELY wants to get a set again!), I loved how far back the man brought his sticks for every stroke! So much power in every beat!
Evgeny and Spencer from Archspire are the two drummers who made me want to get a bell cymbal. I finally got one yesterday. It’s so fun!
Morgan Rose used to hold his sticks that way, then his signature sticks were released and they are like that on both sides. Just some fun trivia.

From my experience you'll bust your cymbals into bells faster but eh nothing compares to those metal Joey Jordison eveans sticks.... fucking straight cymbal killers.
@@sydisticsandman They're actually made by Ahead and they're not metal. It's an aluminum shaft that you slide a poly-graphite sleeve over and that's what hits your cymbals, and it allows you to customize your sticks with different tips, colors, sizes, etc. They're actually a lot better for your cymbals than wood sticks, and you only replace the sleeves at $4 a pop instead of $9-$15 for a new pair of sticks all together, not to mention $2 for just new tips if you need. Used to love playing with Ahead sticks, but I'm back on the Vic Firth 5A Barrel tip. I prefer the overall weight and length. But yeah. Ahead sticks are dope and I hope I was able to clear up any confusion with what the sticks are actually made from and how they actually are on your cymbals.
@@wallyhavoc860 ah I see they're so freaking heavy i just assumed metal lol. But yeah vic firth were still my go to sticks. Think I was an A4 fan but been some years. And ehhhh as a drummer still learning if ya missed with the head oooooof where as at least the wooden ones would splinter and take the damage instead of the cymbal. But yeah I think it largely depends on your accuracy and technique. Still loved them. Hated the sleevs personally so I always took then off but hey some drums hold thier sticks backwards 😅 but wow Lotta info i didn't know or had forgotten

Evgeny is one of my idols and one of the reasons I began drumming as a hobby! :D I liked his performamnce and the technicality of the songs better when he played in Katalepsy (Blindead Sultan, for instance, is an INSANELY technical and good song), but his talent still shows in S2P.

katalepsy is also more interesting in riffs and vocals imo though, stp only has pitched down growls and screams that sound like stabbing a bird

The speeds in modern metal drumming are not going to sound too great without a little bit of triggering, but i agree that it's way overdone sometimes. Some bands could replace their drummer with Guitar Pro 5 and nobody would notice the difference

Modern metal has become a shameless parody of itself, turning everything up to 11, but in doing so it has all become bland, and insincere. Blast beats used to sound cool in 1992. Time to move on make drum sounds great again. :)

Yeah, Katalepsy is way better than Slaughter to Prevail, IMO. I just like brutal death better than deathcore, and Katalepsy is so fucking groovy.

I just wish they didn't over sample their playthroughs. Most notably in Slaughter. His older work is much more enjoyable imo (not that it amounts to much). That Demolisher (i think that's right) playthrough has some of the MOST over sampled snare parts I've ever heard. Slow his gravity down, all the hits sound like a Phil Collins song. Regardless of stick height. Dude is an amazing drummer, I would just like to be able to hear him, and not all the samples. Still one of my favorite drummers. His older videos on his channel are great. The older I get the more annoyed I get when I see drummers being praised for their "inhuman levels" of consistency when all you're hearing is a sample. I ain't gonna whine about cheating, but I would like to hear his playing more.

I love watching Evgeny as much as I love watching Slaughter to Prevail as a whole.
Katalepsy has amazingly good drum parts, way better than Slaughter to Prevail IMO.
Evgeny is clearly emerging as one of the top-tier drummers of the decade, for sure. I noticed something from the older content to the new - less and less wasted energy. Dude is an absolute clinician. He's the Russian answer to John Longstreth, and then some. Massive respect for the guy.
I respect him the most for the fact that he is flying the flag for human drummers versus the trend of overproduced or programming rhythm tracks.

Um, what? Tell that to him then. His samples have samples. Dude is a monster drummer, but most of the official playthroughs he does for them the drums are heavily sampled. Easy to tell. That Demolisher (or whatever the song is) gravity blast is 100 percent over sampled.
He is a brutal beast dude! Never seen anything like that before.

Evgeny actually use his drumsticks in updown and that is more powerful that any other drummer on this world! He teached me how do it but i actually dont like it at all its harder play but its sick drummer for sure Drums Sex And Rock And Roll ☠️🖤🤟
