Early AIRSHIP Aggression! | Part 1 | Campaign | From The Depths 2021

- We're BACK! This time, we finish the map which requires some early aggression! I build the Envoy airship a few days before recording this as a bit of a challenge to try and build a functional and low cost airship which is an 'ok' all arounder, happy with the design though It could certainly be improved! :D

I just want to say I absolutely agree with the decision to annihilate the Deepwater Guard. We've already seen you nerf yourself in previous series to make it more challenging, but now *I* want to see you go against them at full power and just steamroll them.
Agreed.
Agreed, it's time for total domination over the silly AI forces
I for one, always agree with the genocide plan.
Same
For the blood god!
gotta warn you, max difficulty bankrupts enemies fast; forcing the most expensive ships to be built (they still fight each other).
it can be a cakewalk after a single victory, after bankrupting themselves on a single ship they'll panic build tiny stuff keeping themselves poor, or do nothing waiting for 1mil mats to make a fleet of 1 ship
imo it's better to experiment on expert and regular
It would be cool if they can shove the AI into a sort of neural network to train it for a bit; managing economy, territories, and fleet engagement strengths. They won't watch the actual ships fighting.
@@septicsauce322 That sounds like more work than it's worth (from a game dev perspective), while neural networks ARE powerful, trying to set one up for a game as complex as FTD is extremely difficult. It would be better to just design a better A.I through trial and error (like almost every other game) and then fine tuning it until it works.

@@Nathan-fx3hr PIDs are your friends. But also do not be afraid to reverse engineer existing craft. Pull up the Duster or any other craft you like in the designer and have a look at it. Deepwater Guard: *Declares war *
Lathrix: Oh no! Anyways.
Awww, what happened to the specialized ships? I really liked that idea of having to have balanced fleets and not just spamming out the same ship that does everything.
I imagine he will be doing that, but when you have a fleet of one ship you need it to be able to manage against any enemy on it's own

A tip: Making double turreted turrets like a SAM launcher is effectiv, Using the minigun in simple weapons allows you to make a Turret capable of shredding apart anything lightly armored, and even turrets under a hailstorm of weak rounds. Its also good for taking out missles as well. Also if you use grav rounds with the Advaneced cannons. Be careful. its freaking funny as hell watching ships get yeetted but stick with smaller rounds at a slow rate. Lower the enemies accuracy but allows you to hit still.. and never use it with a railgun.

Welcome back to Neter, the weather is beautiful here! 🌈
If you play on the hardest difficulty at some point, be aware that it is genuinely hard and you will need to bring your best craft, strategy and cheese.
I found that out the hard way. 😅
The difficulty is now location based. Easy starts classically, medium sandwiches you between LH and WF, hard places you between the SS and TG, while very hard plops you onto the Golden Trench with everyone declaring war on you
He does say that about a minute and a half in.
I would love to see a bunch of Envoys with different pieces of ships strapped to them
I'd love for lath to build a ram-jet; as in a ramming jet. High power, pure speed, impact damage.
is it just me or does lathrix's beginning ship has a mohawk?
making every ship just a variation of the starter could be cool
I haven't watched yet, but I see that beta test sign and hope lathrix stumbles across the new anime voice prefab breadboard. (Which is hilariously broken at times)
I wish your family the best of luck lathrix. Been watching since series 4 mate. These videos keep me going
It is time
Edit: Also making a battleship with the advanced cannon you mentioned looks like two Envoys stuck together would be funny.
"Greetings sirs and sirettes" is a gameplay tip in the game now
Lathland, thanks a ton for your upbeat attitude! Your speaking style is amazing as well! I really appreciate the content!
anyone think lathrix should try a new Avorion series after this From the Depths series?
It's been years since I played that game. I would love to see him get into that
"We go to war with our friends to the East, friends we're going to fire missiles at, but friends nonetheless I've decided."
*Loads missiles with friendly intent*
LETS GOOOOO!!!!
Really loving the envoy. Would love to see further developments as the game progresses.
An airship that leaves room for development.^^ I actually like the design a lot. Anachronistic in a way.
EDIT: Also, imo the Envoy does't necessarily need an APS version, just put some decent broadsides of the casemate-guns on it and sync them.
Cant wait to read some logs lmao
I remember that one campaign where you made the Khorne Flake. Loved that series!
A thought regarding your thumpers missiles and the talk of modifying them... because they fire in a set order, and thus will tend to hit in the same order, you could mix it up so that the first missiles are stay pure thumper to just dig through the armor (and resist active defences as they have a lot of health), with the missiles near the end of the salvo packing aoe warheads, essentially turning the volley as a whole into pen-depth attack
the radar array on the ships reminds me of the star destroyer's bridge especially with the sail behind them
glad i wasn’t the only one getting those vibes from the envoy
I like kinetic missiles. They're like asking "What if bullet, but more?"; good times.
Keep it up. Keep it going. Keep yourself alive and in good shape while doing it.
An interesting rule for a campaign would be that you need to build a residence for each of your ships in your fleet requiring you to have a static base with a bunch of useless buildings that you would need to defend and spend resources on before additional additions to your fleet.
Glad to see you starting off strong!
Is-
Is the theme of this campaign just going to be meshing ships together-
What I'm hearing with the Envoy is that it's good enough for now, but it could be even better with a retrofit later in the season, after you get some more of the Deepwater Guard's territory and resources.
Ah yes, glorious entertainment!
I see you know of the Templin Institute...
terra invicta
I would LOVE to see you build a sub again. The game has changed so much in the past couple of years that none of the old tutorials apply, and the new breed of FtD 'educational' streamers are... Well, many of them can barely put a sentence together, never mind an FtD construction of any worth where they actually do any sort of job at explaining what was done and why.
On that note, a suggestion: How about as you move on to fight each faction, you have to create one new vehicle that is specifically built to be 'meta' against that specific faction's typical design styles and philosophies? So, for example, when you first get to be at war with the Onyx Watch you build a vehicle that is specifically good at countering heavy, spaced armour, and surviving cram cannon rounds, possibly simply by virtue of speed and being hard to hit. When you meet the Flayers, something designed to defeat melee and nuke rush craft. When you are at war with the Lightning hood, something built to evade, resist or survive laser damage and destroy fast moving enemies, etc.
Doing that would automatically lead to you examining the real challenges of each faction, and putting in context the current weapons and defences, and what they are specifically good against. A practical experiment and exposé of the current mechanics of the game, the components, and the factions. It's something you do so well in your Stellaris games where you explain your strategies and choices, and of course in your Plague Inc. playthroughs as well. While we all understand that you needed your 'honour rules' to keep certain things fresh and challenging, it has felt like for years many of your choices in builds have been unstrategic ones, mostly about roleplay, and that we are not getting to see you choose what kind of engine you feel best fits the specific power requirements of burst energy weapons vs sustained mechanical power, etc. in a given size or speed of vehicle. So often in the prior few series you just seemed to build steam engines in everything because you liked them and there was no real difference, and that has really changed again now.
If you still need greater challenge, set yourself limits like you cannot ever have one of these 'faction beater' designs cost more than X amount of materials (perhaps 50k plus 20k more for each faction you have eradicated in the game at that point - meaning you'd have to eradicate 5 entire factions before one of your faction specific designs could be 150k resources to build), or alternately, that your faction specific design is limited by whatever vessel of theirs you first encounter, where if it is a small vessel of theirs you first meet you may only go up to twice the size, and if one of their largest you may only go up to half its size.).
Damn.
Every time I see you put out a new FTD video I know I have to go back to the game, even when I have no clue what to build

What would be awesome is if you do this playthrough, designing new and stronger crafts as you go, and then (after this playthrough is finished) use those designs and decimated the hardest difficulty
So excited that Neter is back, love FtD. Keep up the great content man!
Welcome back, Lathrix- looking forward to seeing you dominate Neter with stylish, but odd, craft!
I am so glad that there is another season of ftd
I am good with your difficulty
I like seeing the cheaper craft that you can take liberties with
I think trying to smush the onyx watch would be fun to see with airships and stuff, though if you can wiggle past them and to another faction it would be really cool too
I love the Envoy, it has a Ghibliesque feeling to it.
Not sure if this is a bug or not, or if maybe I'm just now discovering something that has been in the game for a while, but you can also guide the thumper missiles using a laser beam-rider instead of remote guidance. The laser beam-rider will only follow the lasers attatched to the same missile controler, but it's still an interesting alternative to remote guidance, plus they always aim for the same point on yhe vehicle.
I would actually like to see latherix fight the onyx watch. I feel like most youtubers skip over them and I haven’t seem anyone fight them in a long time.
Drunk Lathrix = Best Lathrix!
It would be interesting to see smaller mini campaigns for the alternate difficulties
I swear the Doom Satellite better show up in this playthrough
hope you will make a submarine with those huge missiles. love the vid
That difficulty thing is weird, who wants to start with high end battleships and do nothing else, easy looks the most like "story mode" which is what the campaign should be I feel? Nice seeing you back in the campaign :)
Sir Admiral Mosley's Journal Entry number one.
Today was a very terrible day, The troubles began when our scouts spotted what appeared to be som sourt of balloon thing with plates on it, we assumed it to be a piece of floating debris from the other warring factions of Neter, probably the Grey Talons or the Onyx Watch, we couldn't have been more wrong. That was the first of our troubles. Later that day some other group declared war on us, we assumed that this was a rump faction, they only controlled one tile, they couldn't do any damage, we assumed, that was until the Sinner's Outpost called for help. The radio Operator was screaming frantically about this abomination of an airship firing some crude form of a missile, completely demolishing the base, and then we only heard static. Ok, we thought, maybe the Onyx Watch had made some airship and was testing it out on us and knocked out our comms, nothing to be afraid of, right? Right. So we sent in one of our Rapiers to send in some help, besides, it was just an airship, what could possibly go wrong? They sent me out on that ship. I set a steady course for the Sinner's Outpost, or what was left of it. We intercepted the Airship, and I use that term loosely, and we fired off some of our missiles. The enemy returned fire with what I assume to be Thumper Missiles as they carved out the entire deck. I was lucky to survive. I was one of the few to survive, only making it via driftwood. The only survivors were me, some gunner and the Ship's Cat. No idea how she survived, that's one life gone. I washed up near an airship gantry making an Atlas. Fat lot of good that would do. I was immediately rushed to some house and I informed the head of command for the gantry. He ordered that the turret be readied for defense from possible attack from this new mystery faction. One Turret. One. What the hell was he thinking? One damned Turret? They didn't put me in the Atlas, thank goodness, I was too badly injured. hey had to replace my arm with this sort of new prosthetic one they had been working on for the infantry. I had these gauges and was made from copper and wood. It was very well made. The enemy took a beating and completely gutten the Atlas' front and I think they disabled the one Defense Turret we had. They quickly evacuated the nearby coastal village and I ran too. I don't where we're headed, but I hope is far away from this damned place, or this side of the planet for that matter.
Not bad not bad at all
You should totally make a sub! That would be very enjoyable to me at least

These thumper missles are like you are just shooting them with a bunch of high speed tungsten rods
You should bring back that really fast and tiny ramming sub that could core through layers of heavy armor
What a good design. I like your starter craft
Remember, we are the good guys
Yo Lathland Here is an idea if you would consider. How about you do as much weaponry as possible in full kinetic damage? Using things like just pure armor piecing rounds for guns and continuing to use the thumper missiles. I do not know much about the weapon systems in FTD so I am not sure what all weapons full kinetic applies to but I thought that mixing it up and seeing a campaign without the normal frag/HE we see would be a good test for just how good kinetic weaponry is. Love your videos man :D
Pure AP in guns has a tendancy to go straight through craft once you get into the higher tiers of railguns.
You can use hollow points quite effectively, they're basically APS version of thumper missiles.
Single/duo rocket sub that launches a single/duo icbm size rocket into sub orbit that breaks open into 20-30 min thumpers would be epic. long reload offset by diving until weapon is ready

Lathrix should play Space Engineers. It'd be right up his alley!
Maybe make a sky dropped tank? Just cause it would be awesome if you see a plane fly over, and then a tank falls outta nowhere!
You should at some point do a one vehicle/base challenge campaign. Design a single super vehicle or base that you rely on to gather all your resources and do all of your fighting. One vehicle vs everything the other factions can through at you. You have to either fight on resource points or have enough storage to last through a long fight. The limited resources and constantly being outnumbered can probably be countered by just using the weapons and strategies that you consider too cheesy for other campaigns. Think of the missile spam!
I think it would be a cool change of pace, and the concept of a self sufficient capital ship is a sci fi classic!
