    It feels good to finally be weird and wonderful.
    A few notes after watching the video:
    The guns on the Fifth Season actually have really good depression, and I intentionally made the barrels long enough that they can reach through the hull and fire underwater.
    You have noticed my tendency to put GPP in random places all over the ship. It doesn't really need to be armored any better than the detection since you don't need it anymore once the detection gets shot off. Doing this lets me make my AI compartments smaller. For my newer builds, I tend to only have a small handful of GPP in the AI compartment itself which allows for thicker AI armor at the same cost.
    I did noticed that the 42000 kinetic damage on the CRAMs is extreme overkill. They are more for decoration than anything else, but I should put some effort into optimizing them.
    Hitting the Meg reliably with mortars is doable, but it requires a finely tuned detection setup which I do not have at the moment. Try setting automatic detection to 1, and they will even hit the Singularity sometimes.
    The big block of fuel engines in the center of the Fifth Season is one of her greatest strengths. They take up a lot more room than steam engines, but the massive block count tends to draw enemy fire away from the turrets.
    It's basically RNG for how long it takes to kill a broadsider. Since making armor thick enough to stop strong rail shells is not possible, it's basically a fixed percentage per salvo to kill a craft. Large numbers of redundant AIs help. I was a bit lazy about this on the Fifth Season, but another craft of mine, the Hullbreacher, has way more AIs and tends to last a bit longer.
    Before the angled armor nerf, the Singularity would absolutely wreck the Fifth Season. This means that I really need to consider rebuilding the turret armor on the Fifth Season since it was not great before the angled armor nerf, and it is far worse now.
    Popping shells with LAMs is pure RNG when they move 2200 m/s because of the large distance they can cover in a single frame.
    Anyway, thanks for featuring me. It makes the time put into the Fifth Season well worth it. Most of my other builds are off-meta and aren't terribly scary in a fight, but you might be interested in the Reamer if it has not been broken by any movement changes. It's a breadboard based ramming craft that isn't particularly well built, but has a breadboard that allows it to ram Hakes and the Enigma Swarm with a reasonable degree of success. It does just blow up sometimes since I never programmed it to reduce closing speed to a level where it won't clip so far into an enemy craft that the internals collide at the same time as the rams do.

      Also the Fifth Season should be considered as a Long Range Battlecruiser with its armored Middle area and weak belt armor.

    The reason you were seeing conga lines of blocks fall off of the Singularity is becuase the EMP from the shells were destroying the ring shileds, which were then releasing all of their energy in a straight line, creating the conga line of block confetti.

      That's why i think ring shields are useless/more trouble than its worth and are vetter off as a weapon.

    That AP-EMP shell is actually ingenious. I’d imagine such a shell was developed by the Lightning Hoods specifically for use in Onyx Watch guns, seeing as how the two have a vital trade route.

    this is one of the crafts, that make you go "oh, sweet! new target! what can it even do?" 5 seconds later: "oh. oh shi~", and makes you want to cry while you watch some of your best craft gets obliterated. good thing i love spacecraft = )

    AP-EMP is genius, now i gotta try those.
    And yes, beyond armor it'll have to be projector shields and LAMS.
    Setup the shield to have as high deflection as possible due to angles, then have your LAMS fire behind the shield.
    In other words, the LAMS will shoot down what makes it past the shield, and your armor handles the rest.

    The part that impresses me most is the fact that The Fifth Season's shells are not even pendepth.
    She just relies on them hitting something beefy and not whizzing through the enemy craft doing no damage. _And it somehow works!_
    Frankly I was also surprised that a supposed anti-airship craft has strong side armour with minimal (in comparison!) top side armour. But that's clearly working out for her...

    I found a craft on the workshop named "Blackrock 2 - Anti-Godly Frontsider", it costs about 990k mats. I tried it in a 1v1 and it obliterated The Fifth Season without breaking a sweat, it won with 99.5% heath. To be fair the Blackrock would lose very quickly against a piercing PAC because it's a very small and dense craft with no empty space.
    Also i am totally stealing those vicious SAPEMP shells.

    Pretty much the easiest way to beat it (or any ship) is to use a properly evasive frontsider thrustercraft, even after the stability changes. BTW Bungalowbill has a UA-cam channel too if you haven't checked it out yet.

      @@delta4phoenix4 the fifth season is quite large, so she is easy to hit even with the maximum aim penalty, but even with 2200 m/s shells, hitting a bouncy thrustercraft can be difficult.
      It does make the thrustercraft more vulnerable to swarm craft and ramming vehicles that it will have trouble shooting down with an aim penalty.

      @@delta4phoenix4 You can change the evasion to a longer pattern to find a balance between dodging shells and hitting with your own. Also you can use weapons that don't rely on continuously hitting the same spot to deal internal damage like high-gauge railguns or pulse lasers.

    Yes, the 5th Season is certainly an absolute menace to behold. In fact, it’s kinetic damage is so high that it may be more effective to minimize armor so the fuse less shells are guaranteed to pass through, only causing severe damage rather than catastrophic damage.
    I threw 6 Crossbones at the 5th Season (admittedly the crossbones here had a 300k mats advantage) but the crossbones won after losing all but 2 of their number and causing the 5th season to capsize. Perhaps this requires more research 🧐?
    On a related note, it’d be interesting to test the 5th season against the Wood Neter paper tiger.

    For a broadsider, there are some recommendations I have for handling this better:
    - Anything you have one of is a weak point, have two or more of everything, ACBs that take action on damage are your freind, use them for wifi transmitters, APS customizers, you cant armour against this you need to be able to take the hit.
    - Maximise the angle of your projector sheilds, the steeper the angle the higher the deflect chance
    - EMP dose not traverse sub objects, place ACBs on turrets then surge suppressors in turret caps. Additionally use surge suppressors on corners of 'boxes' around vulnerable stuff.
    - Have a empty freeboard with LAMs nodes across it, for aim point spoofing and turret protection (have armoured necks though with turret innards below waterline)
    - Reply with Supercav pure kinetic APS in kind, just poking holes can often disable systems alone (light rail assist can be denser than pure rail)
    - Test your APS turrets if having clips causes chain detonations, otherwise go clipless, additionally have an armoured beam from the base to the cap to reduce decapitations
    This craft is a classic proof of, structural blocks are the worst armour.

      Mostly good tips, but your advice regarding EMP and subjects is out of date. The new EMP changes mean that surges can cross from them to the main hull and vice-versa.
      Working ejectors into your APS is much more efficient in cost and weight than going clipless.
      And structural blocks are the ONLY armor. What else would you even use?

      when I say 'structural blocks are the worst armour' it's to convey about the whole survival onion concept from tanks. aimpoint spoofing, redundancy, evasive movement, active defences even angling by flipping beetween AI broadside cards keep your craft at higher effectiveness throughout a fight and on campaign subsequent fights. While armour is the 'dont be penetrated' part, kinetic APS is meta as you cant reasonably armour against it.

      @@BorderWise12 You can make increadably compact, perfect EMP traps with the new subobject transfer now. 4x 1m Surge Protectors on a spinblock or piston will absorbe ANY 4 EMP surges. Doesn't matter how big. And if you don't mind subobject stacking then it only takes 1m of space.
      So against something that has thought about its EMP protection, there's actually a real choice between few huge surges and many small surges, if I'm remembering right that small surges are easier to absorb with armour blocks?

    A few tips:
    Since these shells can punch through 20 meters of steel, trying to absorb or block them in armor is probably the least effective train of thought.
    Thus, you should ask other questions when designing a counter. Can you avoid the shots? Can you design internals in a way that makes it a non-issue when the armor is penetrated? Can you design weapons that could consistently disable his before yours go down?
    To help in this kind of thinking, break down what his ship is doing. Sure, it essentially ignores enemy armor. But it also fires relatively slowly. The shots have an insanely high velocity, so speed alone won't help in avoidance, but couple it with a small enough ship and you'll find that Fifth Season can't hit you.
    Of course, packing enough power into a small enough design to inflict significant damage in return is unreasonable (possible probably, but unreasonable) yet the train of thought continues.
    Ultimately, if your only tool is armor, every problem is something you add more layers of metal to solve. But this is from the depths, and there are countless tools in your toolbox to counter something that is kicking the butt of your favorite design. And that's why we end up designing so many ships: Something out there always counters one of them and we feel like rising to the challenge and responding.

    What you're seeing there with the shell design I've always done this. I've always designed my shells to penetrate a Target then explode with an EMP blast in the center. I don't understand what people are talking about when they told you that this doesn't worst as far as I can remember it has always worked for me. Is perhaps a little less effective than a specialized shell which is why I tend to if I have the space have a cannon the alternates the shell type between kinetic and EMP but it works nonetheless.
    Edit: I must say I have never been particularly great armoring my crafts. I never really knew what I was doing wrong until I looked at your armor tutorial. I do now and I think I will have better luck surviving in the campaign because of it. Thank you sir!

    It's videos like this that remind me it's ALWAYS better to build a handful of stupidly powerful weapons than many weaker weapons. On a related note, I've spent years working with APS. Railguns are CRAZY difficult to build efficiently. I'm completely in awe of the Meg's railguns. Their damage per cost is absolutely nuts...

    How does she handle hull flooding? There seems to be a lot of heavy armour on those guns, and she seems to float awfully low in the water. She could have a sinking tendency when taking major damage

    I do have a 1,070,000 material battleship that might be able to beat the Fifth Season, but I need to upgrade it first. These upgrades and modifications should be done by the next weekend, are you interested, or do you already have a candidate for that job ? If you are interested, please consider that while the AAS Normandie only costs ~1,070,000 materials currently, her volume is ~180,000 m³, most of wich is wood. The game performance doesnt seem to be problematic, as most of the slowdown in battles comes from missiles according to my tests, and the Normandie only carries defensive missiles wich are not used when fighting the Fifth Season. I can not guarantee my success with this refit, but I am definitley going to try. Please tell me if you are interested, and she uses Cram Cannons as her primary weapons.

    Honestly, this ship was annoying to deal with ships, one second after the battle starts one volley from the ship, your turret disappears or gets Emp'd.
    Try to make your ship have 16 meters of alloy-metal armor with one last layer of sloped heavy armour? Doesn't matter that alloy dies with the HE mixed in the shell, too much armor? can suffice, but no surge protectors? Oh.
    This thing also beat my ships, all of my ships even above 2mil, I'm still 7 months into this game, so I don't know everything. I did something really stupid
    Just like the bbs's party mixed turret, I party mixed HESH with secondary heat(my favorites because idk), Pure HE, disruptor emp with smoke and tracer all 400 milimeters 2meter clip one connection tetris 290rpm ofcourse with ejectors. And made a ship, test results with a prototype ship at 1.5million ship aiming at clusters above water for 15 seconds. Oh btw 3 turrets 290rpm x3 870 rpm.
    Test results showed all 3 turrets having never AI dead the bbs 5th season, and if it did, it would be a lucky emp jolt, it would mostly aim at its middle, despite being at the middle, sometimes a 1-2 guns woulds live, oh next thing you know you destroyed the main turrets. Oh wait your ship got ai dead?
    Cram mortar with aphe.
    One shot got lucky enought to go through 6 layers of metal and one 4m heavy armor straight into the ai and blowed it up.
    Accidently this ship I made to beat the bbs 5th season also destroyed the singularity, accidently after checking the singularity, the singularity guns get emp dead easily with the disruptor emp.
    Honestly the bbs 5th season was an overengineered(?) made ship with barely any flaws when it comes to firepower.
    Slight edit:
    I use Hesh because it goes anywhere randomly, when I looked through the turret of the 5th season, I noticed it didn't have a secondlayer of wedges, hesh and heat would obliderate that defense after going through that first layer of metal, this is where hesh comes in and randomly goes everywhere because my shells mostly hit the middle, I wanted heat to hit both left and right, so I decided why not let rng do it and slapped hesh in

      Surprisingly the Fifth Season suffers against Flak shells from main guns, which my dreadnaught uses with no mercy. The Fifth Season has only gotten my dreadnaught's health down to 95% and that was just from losing the side guns as my dreadnaught always loses those even against the easy deep water guard, as that is the whole point of them, being a distraction for the enemy AI as they have the strongest guns that can only fire horizontally and are in-ship turrets, which makes the AI really want to have a go at them.

      @@axoltheotl2198 have you tried checking the fith season's accuracy after shooting it for a while? I think one reason you're dreadnought wins is because the amount of flak you use probably decimated the fifth season's AI

    without supercav i can build an seabed crawler/Tank with 2km range, because even at around 1000km one layer of heavy armor can withstand a few hits.
    Or an fast submarine that sits under it. but awesome work i have learnd from this.

    May contain too much cheese, but a shield drone is very good against those types of weapons. By shield I mean the ancient ones. Applique>ERA>ERA>Heavy on a anti munitions turret with dock backed up with repair tentacles. In a few tests the very dangerous railguns never made it through. Cost to repair the hit is far less then the resources used to make it.

    I have a 1.7 million materials battleship on the steam workshop that can beat the Fifth Season one on one, most of the time. It needs at least 800,000 materials to burn when fighting it though, otherwise it runs out. Something has changed causing it to use far more materials then it used to and I need to look into why, but it's still usable. This same battleship can tank the Meg as well. But Dang... The Fifth Seasons main guns hit Hard, so even with redundant defenses that can knock out most of the incoming shells, it's still a tough fight.
    Look up the "Venery Heavy Battleship" in the steam workshop if your looking for a ship to take apart and study. I tried posting a link to it but UA-cam deleted the post.
    BorderWise, hopefully you can find something useful with my ship that can be added to your MK:3 Snake Canoe battleship. Would also love to see what you could make too send my ship to the bottom of the sea.
    ps: yes, it does use a bit of cheese in the form of repair bots, the majority of which are exposed in the open compartments of the ship if you want to delete some or most of them for your own testing.

    Large frag missile spam using remote or LUA guidance super hard counters the BBS Fifth Season. Better if they are top attack missiles. They just dig holes through the entire ship. Just armor your missiles nicely and its no contest.

    How do you stop your guns coughing when an opponent is AI-killed (or falling to bits for any other reason such as excessive damage)? Lost count of the number of times my ships have wasted XL torps on something that is already dissolving......

      When I first saw it, I presumed the Staalslag had won the fight by knocking the BBSV's turret out of action, then noticed the Staalslag had been ai-killed at the exact point the BBSV's guns returned to battery.....

    Wrap your ai in rubber(used to be glass cuz it HAD a 100% emp reduction. But 30% is best you can get now) And if your still worried about emp hits put it on a sub structure with surge protectors.

      More space room for ship good for floating but .... Main gun more easy targeted for enemy weapon because main weapon become a few cluster point like Singu laser shoot at it rewind clip u will see Singu laser only aim at 2 main gun because

    Just because I still feel like a noob at 1286 hours in this game, is there a benefit to 4 connection APS tetris that I'm not thinking of? From what I figure the space would be better used for an additional autoloader after 1 or 2 clips. I mean sure this would bring down the cost a lot, but unless the APS mechanics changed while I wasn't paying attention it seems sub optimal.

      Each individual autoloader or clip give the same fire rate increase. So 4 clip Tetris is simply cheapest but hardest to Tetris.

      @@ARK_Angler But the diminishing returns are less aren't they? 1 clip does a 50% decrease, effectively being another autoloader for less but the third I remember is a 33% decrease, so another autoloader with a single clip is more space efficient.

      Decreases the loading time of each autoloader. It’s useful for faster firing burst guns.

      @@Klint_Izwudd There is no diminishing returns or fancy numbers anymore. That was removed in the big APS update years ago. Now its just simply the number of combined autoloaders and clips. (5 autoloaders = 1 autoloader + 4 clips) etc. You can see easily by replacing all the clips of a gun with autoloaders and the fire rate stays the same. (Replacing with all autoloaders seems to occasionally increase the total firerate by 1 autoloaders worth total over clip guns but this is unimportant because it is so little and it does not scale further.

      @German Empire *nods* My intention is to indicate that the Singularity is supposed to be the best the FTD team can build (afaik), and this takes it down (2 out of 3 times apparently). I can see how my statement could be misread.
