How can someone be so goddamn technical and yet put feel into their music.... Goddamn... I discovered this band due to Jared Dines and I am hooked on this
Everything on New Levels New Devils is phenomenal, but I want shout out to the filmography for the videos for G.O.A.T. and this track: -The lighting throughout each section of the song sets the mood perfectly -The main hook starts with the shot with tropical plants and edgy, high contrast lighting which supports the latin flare -The creative rotating shot at 0:56 fits the "dizzy" feeling of the section -The main hook comes back at 1:14 in a setting suggestive of murder with butcher knives, blood spatter, and a noose. The section ends on Tim in a "killing room" at 1:34 which alludes to the next section -> -The bridge at 1:38 is one of my absolute favorite moments on the entire album. Another comment referred to it as "backstreet boy-sounding," it sounds like that because it is an incredibly catchy, buttery, fly ass fucking hook. The change of setting to "sexy" but deformed mannequin figures with "passionate" red lighting and blood indicating decapitation nails the sultry, dark feel to the hook. I think Tim "murders it" with the hook in this bridge, and I think the video is shot with the same idea in mind. The direct transition of the shot from Tim in the "killing room" to the shot of the headless mannequin with the noose supports my sentiment. The continuous shot through the crowd of mannequins to focus on each member as their part drops in to the bridge is just genius and beautiful, and I also appreciate the use of the shadowed mannequin to cleanly transition back to the drummer at 2:00 -Even the little forward/back reverse during the bass part at 2:24 where Clay plays an accented quarter note pattern of the same bass note that has a "bounce back" feel to it is an appreciable subtle detail The best part of the video is all of this artistic styling is done in such a non-intrusive way. It isn't pressed or obnoxious. The focus is clearly on the band members and their playing, but there is perfect environment and editing to support the emotional and stylistic changes of the song.
