    My gfs genesis has the same problem with the clear flaking off on the bumpers and side skirts. Basically the non metal panels have an issue with the paint. It’s never been re-painted. It’s a common manufacturer problem for these models.

    I just finished my first wrap and that is exactly what happened to me. The paint came off when I re positioned the wrap. It ended up looking like an air bubble in the wrap but it was actually air between the roof and the paint on the wrap. Cost me the price of extra vinyl to wrap the roof again. A learning experience. Always enjoy your vids :)

      What did you do on the second wrap? Sand it all down before hand?

    what are you going to do to be able to wrap front and rear bumper if the clear coat is coming off? Sand it down? does this mean, for this particular car, that the warranty is off? is the client getting a re wrap for free? what happens with 3M if they find out the wrap was not defective and it was faulty paint job after all? Wow this video brought way more questions than answers. Great work. Really appreciate you sharing this info.

    • @thewrapper

      You would firstly let the customer know about the lacquer issue, and get permission from them to sand the problem areas down, you can still warrant the full wrap, but won't guarantee that the paint will be fine after taking the wrap off, however if the claim is because of the lacquer on the bumper, then you could refuse the warranty claim however you should consider you option on a case by case basis, if a situation like this happens you could just charge material cost only. CK Wrap is rewrapping this car for free because the failure as happened and the colour is now unavailable so next best thing is to re wrap the all car, personly i think thats excellent service . 3M wont do anything if its becasuee of bad paint and got nothing to do with the material, however 3m isnt the best to deal with when making material warranty claims, i persoanlly wouldnt even bother contacting 3m. The material on this video is actually vvivid and not 3m

    So basically the advice seems to be not to waste money and effort on respraying if you are ever considering wrap or dip coverings because you will more likely damage both than protect a standard non-OEM paint job.

    • @CKWraps
      @CKWraps  5 років тому +1

      If the non oem paint job is a good paint job and the painter does their part then it most likely won't be a problem. But it's a catch 22, I can't warranty the wrap adhering to the bumper if it's not painted. BUT, if the paint gives out and causes the vinyl to lift then I also can't warranty that as well

    • @tgxperience
      @tgxperience 2 роки тому

      @@CKWraps I think I would just say there is no warranty on vinyl/rubber bumpers period. Maybe give a discount if they are repeat customer and just want it fixed. Just be up front about it and explain why and I think most customers will understand. There are always those that will casually forget that it was mentioned as 'no warranty' but that's life. Put it in the original contract as well as a CYA.

    So from bits of what you said if the clear is peeling and you rub it back to where it isn't peeling you can wrap it? Don't care about ripping more off when the wrap is removed or warranty as the paint is already screwed, would just like to have a shot at wrapping it.

      I don't know anything about wrapping but red cars especially are known for the paint and clearcoat to deteriorate rapidly. The more modern red colours are different and last longer. That could be something to do with it? Especially since the front and rear bumper on the car in the video were repainted, and not to factory quality if he could see sanding marks.

    I messed up on some clearcoat. Some is smooth but in some areas the clear became rough from it drying to fast when spraying. It feels like 240 grit sandpaper. Is this wrappable? Could I wet sand it down to 600grit and then wrap? Or does it have to be like 3000 grit to wrap?

    So it seems that it's NOT that you can't wrap if there is some clear coat peeling but more for the removal of the wrap as it will take the clear coat and potentially paint with it? My question is... how does the Vinyl adhere to a part of the body work if there is clear peel?

      The can't part comes in when you try to reposition the film and it lifts. The piece of vinyl is now ruined and has to be trashed. $$$$ Not worth it. Worse, it could lift after a period of time and you end up with bubbles or letting go near the edges, aka ruined vinyl. Also $$$$ Not worth it.

    Wrong question. You are talking about a repainted car that has a poor clear coat. My car is twenty years old and the clearcoat has come off in only the areas exposed by sun. The areas with no sun exposure when parked has great paint/clear coat. I need to just have a body shop feather out the areas where the edge is where it has fallen off.
    The questions I have are:
    1. You stated that wrap does NOT stick as well to areas that are sanded with no clear coat. Does the bare sanded paint need a special sealer for wrapping?
    2. I have a fiberglass shell. The clear coat is all gone on it and it is just gel coat. Does wrap stick to sanded fiberglass/gel coat?
    3. Do you recommend spraying clear coat on sanded surfaces for a better adhesion?
    Also, I just noticed that you don’t answer any questions so why am I wasting time on here??? You want idiots to pay you for an answer. I will ask some other wrapper who is not as greedy and actually answers questions!
