Rick and evie are my favorite movie couple in movie history, with it being solidified in The Mummy Returns. But my favorite character is Jonathan. Hes so Underrated and despite being foolish and fumbling he is also very capable when he needs to be. Fun fact: apparently he was a world war 1 veteran so he has a hidden sense of sadness behind his character
The Mummy is one of my favorite movies. I love Rachel Weisz as the brainy, beautiful leading lady, Brendan Fraser as the adventurous man of action, and Arnold Vosloo as the chief villain. Also, they did get the mummification practices correct when Evelyn described how ancient Egyptians removed people's brains (minus a slight omission): The embalmers used the hook to also punch a hole in the person's skull so the brain drained out when they were rolled over. And I always get jumpscared when Jonathan is toying around in that damned sarcophagus, no matter how many times I've seen the movie. Side trivia: 1. In the scene introducing her as Ankh-su-namun, model/actress Patricia Velásquez was completely naked with the exception of a loin cloth, a few pieces of jewelry, pasties & body paint (body paint took four hours to apply). 2. Brendan Fraser revealed on a recent episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show” that he had a near-death experience during a stunt gone wrong while filming “The Mummy.” The Oscar winner said he was “choked out accidentally” during the scene in which he had to be hanged from the gallows in the Egyptian prison, which resulted in him being resuscitated by on-set medical personnel. 3. In the desert race to Hamunaptra, you see camels and horses. Horses are faster (on flat land), but camels are adapted to life in the desert. Even though they do eventually have to eat and drink, camels can live off the fat reserves inside their humps, their long eyelashes keep dust out of their eyes, and their feet are big and wide to keep them from sinking into the sand as they move. 4. After Evelyn unknowingly awakens Imhotep by reading The Book Of The Dead (which is actually a funerary scroll in real life) and the locust swarm flies into the encampment at Hamunaptra, the locusts crawling on the Egyptologist are actually grasshoppers that were refrigerated to make them sluggish. On a similar note, the scarabs in real life were merely dung beetles, not vicious flesh eaters.
Hmm as reactor its fun to react all 3 I'd say. It's one of those movies where its a pretty decent action movie still. Just not a great 'The Mummy movie'. And there's ofc 1 factor that def makes a difference. Mr Hannah and Fraser however make up a lot of that again and put it for me to an above average action movie.
"Death is only the beginning." Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Oded Fehr. What Script Fact: The line "Think of my children!" aboard the riverboat was ad-libbed by Kevin J. O'Connor. And Scene Fact: The library disaster was done in one take. It would have taken an entire day to re-shoot if a mistake had been made. Camel Wrangler Fact: In one scene, Beni is shown with a sackful of gold which he is trying to load onto a camel. Beni pulls the camel by the reins, but the camel doesn't budge. The camels all, for some reason, hated Kevin J. O'Connor. That's Hot Fact: With the exception of a loin cloth, a few pieces of jewelry, and panties, Patricia Velasquez's costume consists entirely of body paint, which took four hours to apply. The white nightgown Rachel Weisz wore when the ship was attacked became transparent when it got wet and had to be digitally painted white during post production so the film could keep its PG-13 rating. The Medjai were originally supposed to be tattooed from head to toe, but Stephen Sommers vetoed it because he thought Oded Fehr was "too good-looking" to be covered up. Historical Fact: Imhotep is a real historic figure, but he wasn't the High Priest of Pharaoh Seti I; he was the architect who developed the first pyramids in ancient Egypt, most notably the Pyramid of Pharaoh Djoser at Saqqara around 2600 BC. His ability was such that he was later said to have descended from the gods. His name means "one who comes in peace" and as far as anyone knows, he was not a despised villain as portrayed in the movie, but much more likely revered as the architect and physician he was. Seti I was a real pharaoh, but he ruled around 1300 BC, almost 1300 years after Imhotep had died. Anuk-sun-amun was an Egyptian princess who was half-sister (and wife) to Pharaoh Tutankhamun. They lived in the mid-1300s BCE, decades before Seti I's rule. When King Tutankhamen's tomb was found on November 4, 1922, the person in charge was Howard Carter, who was employed and funded by George Herbert, 5th Earl of Carnarvon. Carnarvon's daughter, Lady Evelyn Herbert accompanied Carter to Egypt to view the discovery. Rachel Weisz's character is named Evelyn Carnahan. Originally, her character was meant to be Evelyn Carnarvon. She and her brother were to be the children of the "cursed" Lord Carnarvon. The only evidence of this left in the film is in the line where Evelyn (Rachel Weisz) tells O'Connell (Brendan Fraser) that her father was a "very, very famous explorer" and novelization goes into a bit more detail on her back story.
"Birthplace of Anck Su Namun, Pharaoh's mistress. No other man was allowed to touch her" In those final years of the century (1999), we went crazy with Patricia Velásquez. What a woman.
Omid Djalili plays Warden Gad Hassan - Chelsea born (London) of Iranian descent & is by far, my favourite character from this movie. He's a writer, producer & director and is probably best known here in the UK as a Stand-Up Comedian - and a very fine one. Mummy II is one of the cheesiest, yet best sequels. Kind of old school Matinee feeling to it and a great ride. You'd love it I think. Skip #3 - IF they ever make it!!!!! LOL You read the plot on this one very well. as you always do. Kudos. 🤓
This movie is not the first time Erick Avari (the museum curator and secret ally of the Medjai) was involved with ancient Egyptian stuff - he also plays a prominent character in the movie Stargate (and even gets his own theme song and badass moment!).
I defy you not to laugh at the CGI in #2 if you decide to watch it. You'll get what I mean .... evenually. Nice to see you again anyway. Keeping well, I trust? And lookit you - over 10K Subs now. Doing good my friend. 🤗
You can’t go wrong with watching The Mummy. I was happy when Benny got his’s towards the end of the movie. It’s a known fact when you make a deal with the Devil, it will cost you!
The director Stephen Sommer did a movie before this called DEEP RISING. Deep rising is my favourite creature feature it's got a fantastic cast Beni is even in it
i remember seeing this in theaters and being mortified by the rotting face scene. just thinking of it now I dont know whats worse. waking up to a hot guy whose face decayes and gets ugly in seconds. or the fact i just caught a whiff of three thousand year old mummy breath that even a tic tac or scope couldn't fix.
This is one of my favourite movies ❤❤ I have an outfit like Evey’s in the library when you first see her, knocking over all the bookshelves 😅 People often ask why they cursed Imhotep that way if he could become so powerful, it’s because they wanted him to suffer for eternity and their ego/hubris wouldn’t let them consider the risk he may be released lol During mummification the heart was left in the body, because it was needed to be weighed against the feather of truth, resulting in it either being eaten by Ammit or you passing on to the afterlife- so I used to think they took her heart out so that she would remain trapped in the underworld, making her soul easier to summon when she was resurrected
@@rainbowpegacornstudios Technically yes! It was theorised that his burial was delayed, and his heart was likely removed due to it being too decayed to preserve; instead they placed a scarab shaped stone carved with his achievements and enchantments as a way to replace it, so that he could reach the afterlife (the Gods must have looked at it as they placed it on the scales like ‘hmm. Aight I guess that’ll work’ lol)
I love this film, but they really did Imhotep dirty. He is arguably the most famous and most powerful man that wasn’t a pharaoh in ancient Egypt. The movie gets it right that he was a high priest of Ra, but he was so much more. He was a doctor and an architect as well as a scholar in many fields. He is the reason Egypt started to build pyramids as he designed the very first step pyramid. He recorded the first ever account of cancer that we know of and his writings on various subjects were passed down through out Egypt for thousands of years. Because of his he became deified, that even Egyptians thousands of years later knew his name and what he wrote and up to this day. An amazing man, if he had not been born Egypt would not have been what it was or is today and the pyramids of Giza most likely would have never been built.
Hello, if you don’t mind, can you do a movie reaction on a movie called, 1492: Conquest of Paradise. Adventure/Drama (1992). It stars Gérard Depardieu, Siqourney Weaver, Armand Assante. It portrays a version of the travels to the New World by the Italian explorer Christopher Columbus and the effect this had on indigenous peoples. Directed by Ridley Scott.
The 70's explored realism and grit which is one reason directors like Spielberg, Lucas and others started making bank by mixing light comedy with serious themes as the 80's came in. Schwarzenegger employed this in his action films as well. There is always light hearted banter, one liners or other comedic touches which keep these films feeling safe instead of exploitatively violent. I would never call this a scary movie, but then I had 'Abbott and Costello meet Frankenstein' as a child which was a spin on a couple of the OG scary films.
Rick and evie are my favorite movie couple in movie history, with it being solidified in The Mummy Returns.

He is like a poor mans Paul Bettany in a comedic role.
No, for real, people sleep on him, but he's almost as smart as Evie.
@@greendiamondglow he can fight,he can shoot and he can read a little Ancient Egyptian. He's also a great, and I mean GREAT brother to Evie.

"He that shall not be bothered" lol!
the psychic damage i took from the flesh-eating scarabs when i saw this in the cinema as a kid ..... hoo boy
I remember my sibling and I watching this dvd over and over as kids cuz we loved the movie but I had to cover my eyes at the bug scenes EVERY time
The Mummy Returns is also a great movie. However the 3rd one is fine to ignore.

The 3rd one isn’t that bad. It’s not good either. Rather, instead of ignoring the third one, ignore the abomination that is the Tom Cruise Mummy
@@ulfberht4431 There is a Tom Cruise Mummy?
Maybe skip the 3rd and go onto the scorpion king series.
I actually like the 3rd one
I think the Mummy initially believed Evie was Anuck-Sun Amun because he had bad eyes.
one of the best duologies of all time. yes ignore 3
Your statement about his eyes was my thought too. WHY THE ALMOST BLINd ONE. And winston was so cute
I always thought that was a great little plot point. The Mummy is nearly blind.
@@Bfdidc thats why he cant see thru this
It's a story beat. He stole bad eyes and that's why he mistakes Evie for Anakhsunamun. Duh.
What the others said, also he was among the guys who took Imhotep's internal parts, so he got tagged for payment due.
I just thought the mummy would take what he could get at that time. The cheeky irony was for the crowd
