The twist that Davos wouldn't be killed and that Manderly was working to restore the North went so hard. One of the most memorable bits from my readthrough.
Reading the speech is awesome. Hearing it on the original audiobook makes you want to find a sword and shield and find an army recruiter and ask which direction is enemy to take back….well we didn’t lose anything so whatever we took first.
Yeah the whole Davos Arc was my abolute favourite in ADwD! I also liked that we got to see a new location, in Whiteharbor and that we got to see it from a "lowborn point of view"
I love house manderly simply because they are a true house, loyal to the people who gave them a home at their lowest point and because they haven’t given up on Rickon
House Manderly story mirrors Sam’s. Both are Reach lords chased from their home, and end up washed up in Northern shores. Both were taken in by wolves at their lowest point and nourished. And both are *absolutely* loyal to their saviors.
@@TheNinjaDC yes except for the fact that Sam was never the lord cuz his father was alive and he was the one who made him leave, which means house Tarly is fine, and also Jon isn’t a wolf, he’s a snow/sand/Targaryen/Dayne depending on what theories you believe
He will likely die. And he knows it. Willis is back and safe, and the Manderly force in Winterfell is just a small part of their overall force. I like how House Manderly is a Southern hybrid style of what a Northern house would be. They have Southern traditions and culture but ultimately have the heart and pride of a Northerner. Wyman being outwardly different from the other lords of the north as he's rich, fat, believes in the seven, has knights and just generally polar to his peers but that's not entirely true. His house just runs differently but shares the same loyal pride in the Starks and they are just as brutal as the other houses as they butchered the Freys as they remembered the crimes of Bolton and Frey traitors.
Davos’ trip to white harbor was hands down one of the best chapters in ASOIAF. I literally jumped out of bed when lord manderly made that speech. Shame the show did not adapt it
The Grand Northern Conspiracy is one of the greatest stories to be (more than) hinted at in ADWD. It is so intricate, and yet focused, as to make the reader stand up and applaud. The Boltons and Freys within Winterfell, and without, are in deep trouble.
I don't think GRRM has any idea how to unravel the grand northern conspiracy. He planted the seeds suggesting there is a grand northern conspiracy but has no idea of how make it work.
I don’t think the grand northern conspiracy is likely to be true just because of a lack of a great communication network to coordinate their conspiracy, but I think elements of the grand northern conspiracy are likely true. Obviously wyman and Barbrey Dustin have their ambitions, but I think it is more likely that each individual party of the northern houses are acting in their own interests in wanting a stark restoration rather than jointly conspiring to seat a stark in winter fell
Yeah. Several smaller conspiracies unknowingly working together toward the same goal of restoring the Starks to Winterfell is way more likely. @@evanyurko3640
The biggest twist in ASOIAF is that the Skagosi are secretly the most advanced culture in all of Westeros, and Rickon comes back with a musket and a really pissed off wolf.
one of my favorite Manderly tidbits is when Bran is holding court at Winterfell, one of the Manderlys makes a comment that the north needs its own coinage and White Harbor would be more than happy to start that process (setting themselves up as Masters of Coin)
Manderlys are most powerful and wealthy northern house. Among the most powerful ones in entire Westeros. Biggest northern heavy cavalry, holding all the trade in the 5th biggest city, and Robb allowed them to rebuild a navy (which they did by the time of ADwD). Ofc, they are much weaker than heavy hitters: Lannisters, Tyrells, Hightowers, etc...but overall a very powerful one. Show made them a minor house, but in truth, no other northern house can match them. Show didn't do them justice.
The Lannisters are spent and without proper leadership (at the very latest after Kevan's death), the Hightower's got Euron to face and the Tyrell's are portrayed as "summer knights" and under growing pressure (King's Landing politics, Loras maybe being off the battlefield/dead, Garlan/the whole Reach standing against Euron, again). So the Manderly's odds (especially paired with the Umbers and other hardasses line the Flints and Norreys) are ev3n better I'd say. Just on paper ofc, barring plot twists.
Yes, the Manderlys are far, far, far more powerful than the show portrays them. Remember in Davos' POV, he claimed that with the Lannisters controlling all thr gold of Casterly Rock and has wed the wealth of Highgarden, Stannis' only hope is to secure the silvery riches of White Harbor and House Manderly. Also, many people tend to forget that House Manderly was among the first houses to be chosen worthy enough to intermarry with the Targaryens, with King Jaehaerys planning to marry his daughter Princess Viserra to Lord Theomore Manderly.
You are comparing the Manderlys to tier 1 paramount houses though who can muster entire regions to their cause if necessary. The Hightowers are basically a tier 1 house too with Oldtown in their holdings. The Manderlys are absolutely a top tier 2 house though with the vast lands they control along with White Harbour.
I'm a writer myself. All my stories take place in a verse that I'm constantly figuring out and creating needless details for. It's something you have to train your mind for.
@@DragonZombie2000 he's not comparing himself to GRRM though. He's more or less complementing GRRM for being a "trained" mind...Also, someone being known does not imply that they are a good writer and a good writer may not be well-known (kafka at his deathbed wasn't).
History adds more to the story and fleshes out the world. J.R.R. Tolkien had tons and history for Lord of The Rings same with Frank Herbet and Dune. These authors put thousands of years of history into their stories.
Another concern is that Stannis is seething about Wyman killing Ser Davos. The reader knows he didn't but the idea of Stannis having Manderly hanged or burned only to find out Manderly kept Davos alive is so tragic.
I could see him trying to explain what happened to Stannis, accepting death as the result for all his conspiracies (although from an unexpected source), and basically just going out with the equivalent of "you'll see what happened when Davos comes back". With Davos mourning a good, loyal man when he comes back with Rickon and Stannis silently furious against himself for not believing Manderly.
@@reganhammond9049 Stannis thinks Davos is dead. *Or is at least playing along with the pretence* Very Minor Spoiler Alert: In 'Theon 1', a preview chapter released for Winds of Winter, it is set shortly following Ashas ending chapter in Dance with Dragons (when Theon/Reek arrives at Stannis' camp). Theon is chained up in the tower observing Stannis shaking his fist about it, after quizzing him about the forces that have been sent by Bolton from Winterfell to fight Stannis
I hate how they cut all this out from the show, i really wish at the very least it was Wyman and a Northern army that showed up to save Jon at the BotB. Would of been so much better thematically. All we get instead is some crappy feast where all the northern lords are like "sorry we didnt do shit to help, but we are here now" Was a big kick in the nuts to the phrase "the north remembers" and everything built up with the starks and the loyalty of their bannermen
My favorite parts of A Dance With Dragons was Stannis march towards Winterfell. "We all know what my brother would do. Robert would gallop up to the gates of Winterfell alone, break them with his warhammer, and slay Roose Bolton with his left hand and the bastard with his right. I am not Robert, but we will march and we will free Winterfell, or die in the attempt." - Stannis the Mannis
Also it isn’t likely that people would chose Jon snow over Rickon Stark, perhaps as a champion of house stark yes, because he is old enough to fight, but outright replacing Rickon and taking over house stark isn’t likely, not only from the nobles but also from Jon himself
You might be right. If Rickon is an available option, Jon probably wouldn’t take Winterfell over him. But we need to remember that Rickon is only 5, so Jon might rule in his place as regent or whatever anyways like you said. Also, the Jon who gets resurrected could possibly be different from pre-death Jon. Maybe new Jon won’t care about all that.
@@CrusaderChris yeah we have to see how death changes Jon he was already emo and that was before getting stabbed in the back by the people he stood by as he saw the woman he loved get killed. Also Jon will be pretty easily accepted tbh even more so if he's in Robb's will(which is technically still up in the air who is written down but imo 90% sure it's Jon). He has the Stark look, has leadership experience, battle experience, and is an adult. He would also have a bride at the ready with Val(don't know if this will actually happen even though I wish it did), which means an easier time continuing and stabilizing the Stark line and rule.
@@DawnofIsai Robb’s will only applies because it was written under the assumption that all of Robb’s brothers were dead, when they see that Rickon is alive and well the will of Robb won’t matter, because the only way to then make Jon king over Rickon or Bran is by disinheriting them, and Robb does no such thing and the will doesn’t say they have been disinherited
@@billychops1280 no what I'm saying is lords would choose Jon and him being in Robb's will only further pushes their narrative. They will use it to say it's what Robb wanted and that having an adult lord/king is better for the north than a child like rickon especially in such a turbulent time. Jon and Sansa have a higher likelihood of being chosen over rickon. The former because he will have a strong backing and latter because they can try and marry into the stark succession. It honestly depends on the Maderly's tho because it's obv Wyman wants to be regent potentially marry someone to rickon, but if Jon has an able body and mind post resurrection then he's the one that will actually be able to rally the north and the one men will follow. Obv there's always the chance that Jon will continue to deny himself the right to rule tho
"They don't know Bran is alive." Bran passes through the lands of the mountain clans on his way North and encounters a member of House Liddle. House Liddle is later recruited to follow Stannis in A Dance with Dragons. Either that Liddle never told anybody he met Bran, or the mountain clans know and probably fed that information to Stannis.
One of the biggest reasons I've looked forward to the next book is to see how the war in the North plays out. Wyman may be a glutton, but he's no fool. Many if not most of the northern lords are unhappy with Bolton lordship - and they absolutely hate the Freys, with good reason. I feel that Martin, despite his love of killing off primary characters, was building towards a resolution where the former Stark bannermen and the Manderlys retake the North, and reading how that goes down would be absolutely magnificent.
its primed to , the manderleys will betray the freys out in the snow . stannis has jeyne poole and theon so the other loyal houses in winterfell have no reason to follow bolton when stannis comes , and thanks to alys karstark and the bravosi banker who has found stannis he knows that the other karstarks coming down the kingsroad plan to betray him and can act accordingly . stannis stands in excellent condition to easily retake winterfell .and unite all the loyal north while house bolton dies in winterfell stannis should end up with an army 12 thousand or so strong with the remnants of his fleet and the manderly fleet and a hopefully resurected jon with a loyal host of wildlings
Howland Reed doesn't only know that Robb Stark intended Jon to be his heir and legitimised him. He also knows that Jon is the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen (having been at the tower of joy with Ned.)
People don't give the Free Folk enough credit. North of the wall skinchangers have more prestige. If wargs are hunted in the north, I suspect the Skagos islands is a refuge for body snatchers and all kinds of abominations. Perhaps Rickon will get dropped off at a sanctuary for warg foundlings
@@atlash6387 I think Rickon in the books is a huge casualty of the time skip planned in ASOIAF, originally that got scrapped. A 5 year old is far to young to do much of anything, and I'd imagine the whole book series will end before he is even 8.
Imagine Wyman dying of being fat. Like he’s got all these plans, everyone in his house is with him. He’s playing the fool. But he winds up dead from a heart attack because he played at being fat way too much so he dies from it.
Great video but I don’t think the "Old North" would just betray Stannis after he did so much to help them. Houses like the Glovers were restored to their seat by Stannis and I don’t see them as cold hearted enough to just throw him aside. Secondly and I think more importantly, it is shown that the North’s resources are horribly drained by ADWD and I don’t think they could survive on their own without the other kingdoms.
Yeah I've never understood that mindset either. Stannis is quite literally the one spearheading the liberation of the north out in the open while the conspiracy itself is occurring in the shadows. The northerners would be no better than the Boltons if they just cast aside the man who promised revenge for the Starks. When Stannis's downfall comes it will be because of Stannis and as time has gone on after multiple reread, theory-craft and analysis from so many different sources it's clear that will occur long after the Boltons are extinct house and the Starks are restored to Winterfell, something Stannis will be instrumental in.
Most likely Stannis and the Manderly plot succeed, with the Boltons pushed out of Winterfell, but not crushed. The Starks will reunite, but their relationships will be tested through the politicking and experiences of trauma. We’ll probably get a battle of the bastards, but instead of Winterfell, it’ll be the Dreadfort, where the Boltons make a last stand, and Jon will crush the red lords once and for all.
@@alexknudsen2759 I think 3 years.. making him 6. Kid would be in the first grade lmao. Realistically 10 more years would have to pass for it to make any sense.
My heart breaks for lord Wyman. To appear to be a traitor to both protect his family and to try and liberate the north must be a hard burden to bear right after losing one of his sons.
Another interesting thing to note regarding the 'New North' faction. When discussing Ramsey Snow being legitimised as Bolton by Tommon's Council, Robett Glover says: "He is a bastard, no matter what the boy king says." What is concerning here is that Robb has legitimised Jon Snow by making him his heir. But one can't help but notice that Robett Glover and Wyman Manderly have certainly had their fill of bastards and prefer Rickon. Robb Stark was a boy king. Brilliant writing by George. I didn't notice it until my second or third re-read. "He is a bastard, no matter what the boy king says," Is a statement that fits *both* Tommen Lannister legitimising Ramsey Snow AND Robb Stark legitimising Jon Snow. This is easy to miss since Ramsey, Tommen, and Rickon are the focus of conversation. Northern Civil War, when we need unity, is unfortunate, but the Vale Knight's arrival with Sansa may be the glue they need to refocus everyone on unity. Great video! 👏🏾
"He is a bastard, no matter what the boy king says." I don't think it's set in stone. Maybe it's true that they just don't like any bastard, or maybe they just don't like Ramsey and southern kings so they're looking for an excuse to dismiss him. (It's a sadly all too common attitude we see all over, just look at some of the 'discussions' in youtube comment threads. People will reach for any excuse, including inventing one, to dismiss someone/something they don't like) Maybe they'll have a different attitude when it's someone they like, Robb, legitimising the (believed) son of someone else they like, Ned, in order for an independent North to still have a Stark king.

Watch Davos roll up on Skaggs, expecting him to be feral and the Skagosi to be dangerous, but as soon as he gets there Rickon’s just chilling on a tree stump saying “Sup”
That would be pretty interesting. Rickon ambushes Davos in the forest after spying on him. Davos proceeds to persuade his way out of death and gets Rickon back.

Rickon was 5 when he went to Skagos. Chances are, he's a feral child who's been around barely civilized people. He won't be interested in being King in the North unless Bran communicates to him with his greensight, coaxing him to go with Davos.
Here is one thing about "A great northern conspiracy for Jon Snow" everyone ignores: He swore a lifelong, unbreakable oath to serve on the Nights Watch. This oath, as we see in the first Bran Chapter, is pretty important to Northeners. You basically get executed without a trial, if you break it. Just to point out, how serious this oath is: No one ever broke it and returned to his Lordship. Jeor Mormont joined the Night's Watch out of free will, so Jorah could take over his House earlier. But when Jorah got exiled, Jeor can't even temporarily leave to fix the mess his son created, but he has to let a woman reign... in the sexist World of Westeros. Letting someone return from the Wall is "a Cersei Plan", and we are supposed to think, that she is insane and a really awful schemer. Yet everyone is like "But Rob has the same plan, and the North will support Jon!" Add the "He let the Wildlings through the Wall, even though all they do is rape an pillage in the North" part to the equation, and it becomes really unlikely, that many Northerners will support him.
@@DominionSorcerer No. Not even the Lord of Winterfell can revoke that oath. Or at least that never happened, as far as we know. And don't tell me, that it was Robs Masterplan, that Jon gets stabbed and resurrected. Or can you show me that one passage in The Song of Ice and Fire, Fire and Blood and The World of Ice and Fire, where the Lord of Winterfell pardons someone who joined the Nights Watch? You can't, because as far as we know, that never happened.
That's true, but there isn't really a precedent set for resurrection for obvious reasons. Also, the maxim of "there must always be a Stark in Winterfell" might outweigh the breaking of the Nights Watch oath
@@PassivesAbseits you're right, the Lord of Winterfell never revoked someone's sworn oath to the Night's Watch. The King in the North was fully intending to do so, and his will might very well say this along with legitimising Jon and he would have given the Night's Watch a hundred men in exchange, that obviously failed since he died. Either way it is an unprecedented event, as is Jon's (eventual maybe) resurrection - entirely unrelated to what Robb was doing, it's just a happy little coincidence.
@@PassivesAbseits the idea is that "Jon Snow" swore the oath, if he was legitimized by rob and as we saw Stannis try in the TV show, he would no longer be "Jon Snow" who has the duty to the watch but "Jon Stark" who has duty to the North. It is a technicality but that would mark the end of "Jon Snow's" watch as he did serve the watch for the rest of his duration as "Jon Snow"
Fun fact about the video.....the dude depicted as Wyman Manderly is actually Lord Glover in the episode the edit was drawn from 😅 Great video either which way 🎉
I think you mistake Wyman Manderly's hunger for power. He has installed himself in with the Bolton camp. And he came with nothing but the clothes on his back and his wits. It's a gutsy move. But it's not a move of the power mad sort. Because there's too high a likelihood that you die and don't get to live to enjoy your power. Wyman got his son back, ensuring the stability of his succession. and whatever duties he has to his family and his people in White Harbor. Now that they're taken care of, he's free to play the game for his lord as a loyal bannerman. His life is pledged and he can freely sacrifice himself, if necessary. Of course, there are advantages in getting so close to the enemy. He may even come out unscathed. But if his fall becomes inevitable, he's positioned to do the maximum amount of damage that he could do with the smallest amount of sacrifice in return (only himself). There are two kinds of schemers in the world. Those who are in it for themselves, and those who were abused or battered at one point, and were kept afloat by friends until they found their footing as schemeres behind someone else's sword. Lord Manderly has a debt that can never be repaid. He's also old and fat and a joke to those who are not his own people. He's likely the second kind of schemer, loyal to the core to his old friends, and Ned was a very good friend to those who knew him. Knights die on the battlefield. Schemers die in castles, destabilizing the world around them as if a bomb went off. He'll eat well, and drink well, and even if he dies, he may have the last laugh.
I see stannis sitting in the Winterfell, then the doors opens, Davos w rickon enter!!! So.badass. please George give us justice. Stannis takes the north. Marry Shireen and rickon.
Great video! Regarding the different factions I would add that House Ryswell and house Dustin seems to be pretty loyal to Roose Bolton (As he was married to a Ryswell who was sister of Barbrey Dustin) even though they dislike Ramsay and the Freys.
Great video. I think it will be similar to the show and that all these factions will end up at winterfell with all the surviving starks. I mean if a certain someone actually sits down and writes something that is.
Robb was the perfect heir to house stark. First of all he was kind and normal surrounded by the ruthless northerners, still gained their respect and trust at such a young age. Tywin underestimated robb, believing he will simply a kid who would soon face rebellion
Manderly's are so goated man, they are the wealthiest Northern family, bringing in the big bucks for the entire realm, but they don't lord it over anyone. They control the only city North of the Neck. They also have knights, unlike the rest of the north. And the descriptions of White Harbour make it seem like one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with pearly white walls and marble fountains with Mermaid statues carrying bowls of perpetually burning whale oil to light the streets at night. Simply peak.
I hate that I’m so late to this, but I have a theory. I believe that all three factions can get what they want with certain politics behind it all that probably won’t happen. The biggest problem is the difference between the old and a new north as you call it. Wyman power on and he probably will wouldn’t except Jon just due to the fact that already age and could rule his own power. Rickon on the other hand would need a reach for another six years roughly if I’m doing the math right. but the catch is that I think more more than houses would except Robbs will it came out and support Jon ascension to the throne. I’m not particularly in northern politics, but here’s how I think I could go. The old north would automatically get more support I believe so Jon takes the throne as king or warden. he also serves as Lord of Winterfell consolidating the power of the north behind him until Rickon of age, then Jon would take over the Dreadfort newly named whatever he decides but stays as King or warden. He holds that title until his death, but passes it over back to the main Stark family upon his death. As an agreement, a daughter of his family would marry a son of. Rickon uniting the families. Now, if Sansa does get involved. It’s simple marry her to Jon it’s practically canon without being revealed that they are not brother and sister, but cousins and cousins have married before in the Stark family. a daughter from those who would marry a boy from Rickon united all three of those claims. Now that’s just the if he stays in the north plan. If he actually is who we think he is and is a Targaryen, the marriage would be a strong way to keep the north in the seven kingdoms not to forget that he’s stark and was raised by Ned Stark. my answer to that is I believe that Benjen hopefully would survive this war and with the duties of the night watch not actually being necessary relieved of duty to take over as regent and it’s not like anyone would fight it. There’s some more things, but I forget them right now, but this is the main outline of my theory .
The origin of the Manderlies as a northern house almost sounds like a reverse Norman Dutchy: instead of hardened Northern men coming down to the rich and fertile lands of the Franks and being given lands to settle and defend from other northerners, it's shrewd men coming up to the harsh and unforgiving lands of the North and being given lands to settle and defend from southerners
If I'm not mistaken, the Manderly host is with the Boltons at Winterfell at the time of the events in ADWD. Perhaps they will strike the Bolton army in the rear when battle comes.
A theme of ASOIAF is the perceptions people have of other groups of people, separated by distance, are often false. I think when Davos rolls up to Skagos, he’ll find they crowned Rickon as their king, or at least some honored guest of Stark. They kept their oathes of loyalty to Winterfell from when they were vassals, and have just been waiting for their liege lords to come back, not aware they were considered lost

one of my favorite Manderly tidbits is when Bran is holding court at Winterfell, one of the Manderlys makes a comment that the north needs its own coinage and White Harbor would be more than happy to start that process (setting themselves up as Masters of Coin)
@@matt_9112 speaking of Loras and storming of Dragonstone...i hope Roland Storm managed to sneak out. I like that pox marked bastard
@@mr.googoopants3581 Rhaenyra also planned to marry Joffrey to one of the Manderly daughters.
I still can’t believe that all this lore and history comes from one person, GRRM is truly one in a million minds

History adds more to the story and fleshes out the world. J.R.R. Tolkien had tons and history for Lord of The Rings same with Frank Herbet and Dune. These authors put thousands of years of history into their stories.
After the death of Tywin the western lords are not loyal. Tywin played with fear. But they wouldnt fear the Kingslayer jaime and Queen Cersei.
Oh fuck I forgot Stannis doesn't know Davos is still alive
@@concept5631 to be fair he also has no way of knowing he was dead
@@reganhammond9049 Stannis thinks Davos is dead. *Or is at least playing along with the pretence*
Very Minor Spoiler Alert: In 'Theon 1', a preview chapter released for Winds of Winter, it is set shortly following Ashas ending chapter in Dance with Dragons (when Theon/Reek arrives at Stannis' camp).
All we get instead is some crappy feast where all the northern lords are like "sorry we didnt do shit to help, but we are here now"
Was a big kick in the nuts to the phrase "the north remembers" and everything built up with the starks and the loyalty of their bannermen
Wyman is like Doran just much more decisive and way quicker to act on his plots.
My favorite parts of A Dance With Dragons was Stannis march towards Winterfell.
"We all know what my brother would do. Robert would gallop up to the gates of Winterfell alone, break them with his warhammer, and slay Roose Bolton with his left hand and the bastard with his right. I am not Robert, but we will march and we will free Winterfell, or die in the attempt."
- Stannis the Mannis
@@CrusaderChris true but if Jon is resurrected then he also might not be able to reproduce
"They don't know Bran is alive."
Bran passes through the lands of the mountain clans on his way North and encounters a member of House Liddle. House Liddle is later recruited to follow Stannis in A Dance with Dragons. Either that Liddle never told anybody he met Bran, or the mountain clans know and probably fed that information to Stannis.
Should be interesting
I see what you did there with the Night King
Howland Reed doesn't only know that Robb Stark intended Jon to be his heir and legitimised him. He also knows that Jon is the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen (having been at the tower of joy with Ned.)
What if the Dayne theory is true and Jon is part Dayne?
assuming that that is indeed true . we dont know yet
You mist be right, since Osha wouldn't have chosen a "cannibal island" for the sake of kid's safety. And she clearly knows he s a varg.
@@atlash6387 I think Rickon in the books is a huge casualty of the time skip planned in ASOIAF, originally that got scrapped.

"It ain't over til the fat mermaid sings"

Grand Northern Conspiracy hype.
Imagine Wyman dying of being fat. Like he’s got all these plans, everyone in his house is with him. He’s playing the fool.
But he winds up dead from a heart attack because he played at being fat way too much so he dies from it.
That’s the most D&D thing I’ve heard. If the Manderlys were in the show, this is what would’ve happened.
@@didncozosksma4466
No the most D&D thing would be Whyman actually being fat, incompetent and not super loyal
I really hope we see Rickon come back badass and Stannis unite with the North.

My heart breaks for lord Wyman. To appear to be a traitor to both protect his family and to try and liberate the north must be a hard burden to bear right after losing one of his sons.
At least now, even if he dies, his son will live on and will carry the tale that Lord Wyman of house Manderly was loyal to the end
Another interesting thing to note regarding the 'New North' faction.
When discussing Ramsey Snow being legitimised as Bolton by Tommon's Council, Robett Glover says:
"He is a bastard, no matter what the boy king says."
What is concerning here is that Robb has legitimised Jon Snow by making him his heir.
Rob's will is for Catelyn not Jon for his heir its pretty oby. plus cat is still young enough to have kids. early 30's
"He is a bastard, no matter what the boy king says."
I don't think it's set in stone. Maybe it's true that they just don't like any bastard, or maybe they just don't like Ramsey and southern kings so they're looking for an excuse to dismiss him. (It's a sadly all too common attitude we see all over, just look at some of the 'discussions' in youtube comment threads. People will reach for any excuse, including inventing one, to dismiss someone/something they don't like)
Maybe they'll have a different attitude when it's someone they like, Robb, legitimising the (believed) son of someone else they like, Ned, in order for an independent North to still have a Stark king.

Rickon was 5 when he went to Skagos. Chances are, he's a feral child who's been around barely civilized people. He won't be interested in being King in the North unless Bran communicates to him with his greensight, coaxing him to go with Davos.
Wyman is one of the best characters in the books. Shame the show practically left him out other than like one small appearance.
Yet everyone is like "But Rob has the same plan, and the North will support Jon!"
Add the "He let the Wildlings through the Wall, even though all they do is rape an pillage in the North" part to the equation, and it becomes really unlikely, that many Northerners will support him.
He swore a _life_long, unbreakable oath Robb's will can absolve and his watch ended with his death.
Fun fact about the video.....the dude depicted as Wyman Manderly is actually Lord Glover in the episode the edit was drawn from 😅 Great video either which way 🎉
it might be a minor detail but I absolutely love your intro :)
Excellent video sir.
I'd love to see a prequel of the north...maybe even go back to Brandon the builder
your analysis and presentation are so good
I think you mistake Wyman Manderly's hunger for power.

*The North remembers!* 🧜♂️
Wyman is such a badass
"The cool guy claim"😂 the strongest of all claims👍
Imagine if I Rickon came back "bookish" and well read, not wild or feral at all. 😂

Hey I really like the fanart you used for this, most times people use ugly and dated fanart.
