I have watched dozens of videos for the FSC and this is the first that worked for me!
I think I figured out why - you made a point of where to put your hook - OVER THE BAR and then under the stitch. Previously the twisted yarn that is the two pieces you described I was counting as 1 and therefore was also going under the bar. That description made ALL the difference.
    Thanks again!!!

While holding the work and turning it, I could see the underside and then the topside, I saw the chains that get were created - this helped me to me to understand which pair of loops to use for inserting the hook. This was one of the toughest stitches for me to master as well! Tension was so hard to master for this one! You've got this! :)

I've been trying to make a foundation chain for years but just can not do it. This video is the best I've seen but I still can't master it.

I only find it difficult when using 6 or 7 (bulky) yarn.
Try practicing with 4 weight yarn and a big (8mm or bigger) hook

I found that if I stopped concentrating for even a second, I lost my place and made a mistake. Also, if I put it down for some reason and resumed, I mistook the bottom for the top and proceeded to work on the wrong side. Took a while to figure out I was doing that. yes, it’s a tough one , many restarts and ripping backs, but I think I got it now.

Hi, thank you for this very clear video. I am very new to this and I hate doing the foundation chain. I definitely prefer this method but am still unclear how to turn and do the next row and then the one after.
Also, please do a video showing how to add a second color at the beginning of a new row. As if you wanted to do a scarf with stripes going long wise on the scarf, leaving tails on both ends to eventually create fringe for tassels.
    Thanks again!

Hey Rachael, thank you so much for making this video. Every time I need to do this stitch I come back here and watch this video. It’s the only one I can understand! For some reason, your calling the stitches “crossed legs” made it click in my mind. Thank you for explaining it so well. I subscribed to your channel.

The reason I love this stitch is because it's flexable. It stretches, whereas the regular single crochet does not.
I think that you explained it very well. Good job.

It's a waltz stitch. lol Thanks for this. It's also more stretchy which is so much better, especially for large stretchy projects.

Holy wow! I've done this stitch for years, but it never sticks in my memory, so I'm always looking it up again. You said one thing that I think is was the missing key: count each yarn over 1-2-3! Such a simple tip but wow...I've got it now!

    (1) love that you taught me something new. I picked up crochet ~5 years ago.
    (2) I grew up in the country and had Home Ec. As an adult I am a banker and when you said you are a Home Ec teacher I first thought “whew you go girl!” Followed closely with “wait, home ec stands for home economics… why isn’t personal finance a part of it?”…. Curious if anyone has ever asked you that before and what your thought are.
