This is by far the best explanation of this stitch on the internet. Thank you so much!
@@GameKiwi oh wow! You just absolutely made my day!!! Thank you!!!! 😀
Needed a refresher on this stitch, but you explained the steps so clearly and completely that I will probably never forget how to crochet it! I'm a retired teacher and want you to know that your teaching technique in this video is superb!
I love hearing this! I am a teacher by day, so this makes my teacher heart happy! Thank you so much for your kind comment! :)

Same! Very well explained and shown
Duuude! Best explanation ever. Explaining and showing the anatomy of the stitch was exactly what I needed to FULLY understand and execute this stitch, thank youuuu.
I am SO glad it helped you! That is the goal of my videos!!!! :) Happy crocheting! :)
Completely agree. Very well done!!❤
@@LauraDavis-yo7ju thank you!!! :)
🎉 Finally a video explaining this horrid stitch well!!!! Thanks!!!!!!
lol! It definitely was one of the hardest stitches for me to get the hang of! I am glad this video helped you! :)
Yes! And with contrasting colors so we can see what's what.
@@loupotter4319 That's why I chose the color that I did! It helped me when I was learning! :)
❤ the 1,2,3 repetition which helps me stay on track! We can clearly see where that hook goes & finally nailed this. Yaye! Bless you.
The 1, 2, 3 helped me finally figure it out too! I am so glad it was helpful for you! Happy crocheting! :)
Loved your tutorial ❤️, got it right quick from your precise directions, thanks a bunch.
I am so glad it helped you!!!! :)
I love how slow and detailed you explain the stitch.💕
Thank you for the kind feedback! :)
Seeing which stitches you are supposed to end up with on your hook - up close and in slow motion was SO helpful! Thank you!
I found that keeping the correct tension on that stitch as I finished it made each subsequent stitch easier.
I am very glad it helped you!!!! :) I agree about the tension. Controlling the tension is a key step for this stitch!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! Thank you for telling me what i was doing wrong!!!!!

The only tutorial that made sense, and I picked it up immediately; thank you!!

I really like this stitch and the way it looks on the bottom of the project! Great explanation! I’m “refreshing” my skills which were only basic at best but I love it!!Thank you!
You are welcome! I am glad it helped you!!!
Thank you for the clear help. I've crocheted for nearly 50 years, this is the first I've heard of this stitch. I'm in love.
I love this stitch too! I'm glad it helped! :)
Thank you!!!
I have watched dozens of videos for the FSC and this is the first that worked for me!
I think I figured out why - you made a point of where to put your hook - OVER THE BAR and then under the stitch. Previously the twisted yarn that is the two pieces you described I was counting as 1 and therefore was also going under the bar. That description made ALL the difference.
Thanks again!!!
@@Bethmorre I am so glad I helped!!! That’s the whole goal of my videos! Happy crocheting!
A Good new way to crochet a foundation. Thanks ❤❤❤
You're welcome! Thank you for the kind feedback! :)
I’m glad that people are still commenting on this 2-year-old video, because I felt compelled to do the same and say THANK YOU!!! I’ve been crocheting for years but always avoided or modified patterns that began with these foundation stitches because they just didn’t make sense to me and I felt like I was guessing. I truly appreciate your clear and patient instructions along with a slow and super close-up video! I’m going to start a blanket with these stitches right now!! 😄🙏🙌
Oh this makes me SO happy! I am glad it helped you out! I struggled for years too and avoided this stitch for many of the same reasons. Once I figured it out I love it!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave the kind feedback! :)
This is the BEST FSC tutorial on UA-cam! Thank you for so clearly demonstrating where to insert the hook! The struggle is real!
Thanks for the kind words! This is my goal for my videos! Happy crocheting! :)
100% agree! After going through 3 other quite popular crochet UA-camrs who either went too fast or did not explain well enough, I finally found hers! Now I can FDC like a pro! 😜
Thank you! This is my fourth video about chainless foundations and the other 3 did not explain well enough where to put the hook. I was pulling my hair out trying to figure it out. They were either going too fast or did not have the camera close enough to see the stitches. I'm so glad I finally found your video! It's perfect and I finally got it down! ☺️
Edit: spelling
This was my goal!!!! Thank you for sharing! :)
Very challenging with dark yarn but clearly articulate it. Thank you.
@@LCFiddy I hope it helps you! Happy crocheting!
3 years later and this video is still going strong. I've always been unable to do a FSC until now. I like this foundation style better than just doing SC, etc. It's more attractive. Thank you!👍
I prefer the foundation single crochet as well! :)
I hate this stitch - I can't do it now matter how many times I frog and start over
Thank you for explaining this so beautifully. Have tried other YT videos for this, but yours was the one that was so good that I could do it with only a little practice 👍

Glad I found your channel, excellent teaching and clear and up close video! I've been crocheting for 8 years and I will be using the single and halfdouble foundation chains, thanks!
I am SO glad it was helpful! That is the goal of my videos! Happy crocheting! :)
Thank you for this video. I needed to learn this method/stitch for a pattern and other videos I watched were very confusing and too fast. I watched yours (also reduced the speed a tiny bit so I wouldn't miss anything while looking down) and I got it instantly.
The way you demonstrated exactly where to place the hook and which legs to go above/below was so helpful. My hand/eye/brain all caught on at the same time, which made it very simple to execute.
@@JaeNova so glad it helped you!!!! Happy crocheting! 🙂
Thank you so much for using a different colour than bright pink. So many videos use it and it's hard to see the details. Great explanation on the stitch too!
I am so glad to hear that it helped you out! I really wanted to choose a color that showed well on video. Happy crocheting! :)
Thank you so much for sharing how you work a SC Foundation Chain. This was easier than I thought. I was able to see the chain that gets created on top and bottom. Once I saw this it was easy. While holding the work and turning it, I could see the underside and then the topside, I saw the chains that get were created - this helped me to me to understand which pair of loops to use for inserting the hook. Great job and keep up the create work ❤❤❤❤
I am so glad this was helpful to you!!!! :)
Thank you, I have never been able to get this stitch ❤️you are so clear, such a great tutorial 🎉

Excellent very easy to learn from this !!
I am so glad it was helpful for you! Happy crocheting! :)
Last night I decided to just stick with knitting. I’ve been trying to learn how to crochet for about two weeks and could not get past crocheting my first row. My chain was ugly and I didn’t know where to put my hook. Then this morning this technique was in my Facebook feed. Thank you. Very clear and understandable directions.
I love it! Thank you so much for sharing! This is my goal with my channel! :)
Love this, I have up on knitting for the same reason🤣
You are the only one I've seen who actually showed exactly where to put the hook. I'll be attempting this tomorrow. I've seen two other methods to do this sort of foundation and I'm trying to determine the best one for me before I start my big blanket.
I hope it helps you with this stitch! I was so confused until I figured out where exactly the hook goes. Happy Crocheting! :)
I've been using the chunky type yarn and having trouble with the foundation chain and the first row of single crochet. This method is so much easier and the edge is smoother. Thank you!

I am so glad it helped you!!! :)
Fantastic explanation! Thank you so much!!
Thank you for the kind words! Happy Crocheting! :)
I appreciate you taking the time to actually SHOW where the hook is supposed to go after the initial start. Where to put your hook after your first sc. I watched a few other videos before I found this one, and the others just said, "we're gonna go back and put our hook in and...." without giving clear concise instruction as to exactly where that is. When starting off, this stitch is a jumbled mess so it can be hard to see what part the hook is going in. That was my biggest issue. Thank you!
@@PerseHisekowa oh I am so glad it was helpful!!! That is my goal with my videos! Happy crocheting!
Wonderful video, thank you for explaining exactly where your hook should go.

Hi, I just found you things happen for a reason. I have just been appointed to do a test for the first time and I had to go back and learn a few things cause I like to do things exact as the pattern for so I just wanted to make sure I was doing everything and I’m glad I found you yay.

@@melh1030 aww! You’re welcome! I’m glad you liked it!
I found your way easier to understand than other videos. I used it yesterday with success. The first row of the cat mats I'm making are as springy as the rest of the work. The shape of the rectangles are uniform. No slightly shorter first row on one side because the starting rows now have that all important "give". Thanks so much!
I am SO glad it helped! :)
Amazing sister. You explain perfectly. Thanku sooo much.

I have crocheted for years and had no idea on this stitch until a pattern called for it. 😅
I had been crocheting for a while too before I had any clue about it. Now I would rather use this than a chain and row of SC to start my projects!
Very straightforward and easy to follow. Had it worked out by the end of the video. Thank you and just subbed 😊
Aww! Thank you so much! Happy Crocheting! :)
Thank you for being so clear about "both legs"! That's what I was missing before
You're welcome! :)
After trying to get the stitch figured out for '2 weeks, I finally got it tonight! I was so excited! I am trying so hard to learn these stitches so I can crochet something besides the granny square. I am starting with the basic single crochet but I love the foundation single crochet. It works up so fast and the tutorial that you did was excellent! I watched it over and over and the I finally thought maybe I needed to try a smaller hook. And abra cadabra, I finally got it. You explained everything so thoroughly and the one, two, three system of counting works for me too. I will definitely try more of your tutorials!
Awesome! I am so glad it helped! I like the FSC and how it looks too! :)
Thank you very much for your tutorial…I’m a slow learner but I was able to catch on with your slow tutorial & I needed to slow it down a tad more lol….you explain the stitch so well! Wished I had learned this wonderful stitch earlier in my stitching..many thanks & Happy New Year to you & yours!

Fantastic tutorial !!!
Thank you for the kind words! Happy crocheting! :)
Anyone else finding this stitch SUPER difficult??? I’ve never felt so challenged!
This was one of the toughest stitches for me to master as well! Tension was so hard to master for this one! You've got this! :)
I've been trying to make a foundation chain for years but just can not do it. This video is the best I've seen but I still can't master it.
I only find it difficult when using 6 or 7 (bulky) yarn.
Try practicing with 4 weight yarn and a big (8mm or bigger) hook
I found that if I stopped concentrating for even a second, I lost my place and made a mistake. Also, if I put it down for some reason and resumed, I mistook the bottom for the top and proceeded to work on the wrong side. Took a while to figure out I was doing that. yes, it’s a tough one , many restarts and ripping backs, but I think I got it now.
Yes me
I watched a few different videos about how to do this stitch but your video is the first one that actually clicked with me :] Thank you so much for this!!
It makes me so happy that this was helpful for you! That is why I make my videos! Happy crocheting! :)
Hi, thank you for this very clear video. I am very new to this and I hate doing the foundation chain. I definitely prefer this method but am still unclear how to turn and do the next row and then the one after.
Also, please do a video showing how to add a second color at the beginning of a new row. As if you wanted to do a scarf with stripes going long wise on the scarf, leaving tails on both ends to eventually create fringe for tassels.
Thanks again!
I will work on videos for those! Great ideas! Thanks for sharing. :)
Hey Rachael, thank you so much for making this video. Every time I need to do this stitch I come back here and watch this video. It’s the only one I can understand! The reason I love this stitch is because it's flexable. It stretches, whereas the regular single crochet does not.

(1) love that you taught me something new. I picked up crochet ~5 years ago.
(2) I grew up in the country and had Home Ec. As an adult I am a banker and when you said you are a Home Ec teacher I first thought “whew you go girl!” Followed closely with “wait, home ec stands for home economics… why isn’t personal finance a part of it?”…. Curious if anyone has ever asked you that before and what your thought are.
1.) I am SO glad it was helpful for you!!!!
2.) I actually do teach some personal finance in my middle school classes and high school classes. I feel that it is a very important part of my job!! :)
