This was so helpful to me because I am not a beginner because I used to crochet alot of things. But now that I am older,I am trying to relearn how to crochet!! The major problem I have is trying to wrap the yarn around my fingers!! This tutorial as well as all the other ones are fantastic!!And I spend half of my day on Utube and so many of my friends kids are having babies and I want to be able to make things for them. I just have tried to look for cute patterns rather than practicing with all your fantastic tutorials. I must watch them half the time and with your help I think I can finally master this!! I was Finally able to get a yarn tension holder made. I even asked,at one point,if you would make me one and I would pay you for it. I thank you for all your weekly emails and all your new web pages etc. If I can finally master this, it will all be because of you:):) God Bless you and I will stay in touch. I had started a baby blanket and I was going to send you a picture of it, but I was too embarrassed because I think because the yarn is so bulky, half of the time I couldn't even find what stitch to go into!!! I started to knit it, but I have been forced to live in Healthcare center and noone around here knits or crochets.!! Now I found a cute car seat blanket and the baby is already here and I finally realized that it was too big of an undertaking. I am sorry this is so long , but I feel that you are my new friend ❤ and I wish you all the luck in your new home in Japan. You are brave. I will close this one for now but I will be in touch with you again!!

I hope this video helps! Just remember that tension affects everyone differently, and there are also many things that affect tension. Here are some more tips.
      1. Make sure you're sitting comfortably in a chair when you're working.
      2. Prop your elbows up on a pillow if you're feeling uncomfortable,
      3. Experiment with different hooks - I HIGHLY recommend Clover Amour. They make a world of a difference.
      4. Use a yarn bowl or yarn dispenser to keep your ball from flopping around all over the place
And that's all I have off the top of my head but I have more crochet tension tips here ua-cam.com/video/4c04CaV5mYk/v-deo.html

My first few tries were crazy inconsistent, though I am for sure a tight crocheter. After watching this, and a bit of mindful practice, I realized that I was trying to make the loop exactly the size of the hook, which would leave no room for anything later. As I was struggling to pull the hook through, I was subconsciously squeezing the working yarn resulting in crazy tight stitches when I got it through and crazy blown out stitches when I overcompensated the slack.

Tension really is a pain. But everyone crochets differently. If you feel comfortable while you’re crocheting, then it’s okay if your tension is tighter or more loose than others. As long as you understand how to adjust hook sizes when gauge comes into play. I feel like I have a good grasp on my tension but even I don’t match the gauge of other designers. It’s trial and error 😊

This is great, thank you. I'm not exactly 'new' to crochet - next month will be my 2 year yarniversary - but I do consider myself to still be at the learner stage, maybe an intermediate beginner. I've watched your video because a square blanket I've just made is wavy width-wise, so figured it was a tension issue. I'm going to give this another watch, and I'll also make a tension aide (sorry, my short-term memory isn't great, so I can't remember what you called it 🤭) and see if it helps. Thank you for this tutorial 💕 Ps, I'm really curious now and have to know.... how IS your macaroni? 🤔😆👍🏽

I instinctively pull the yarn and tighten it after every stitch which makes my wrists hurt… it doesn’t look right to me loose with holes, but I struggle with tight stitches making it hard to pull through. Idk once I get onto it I don’t pull as hard but in the beginning it feels like it has to be tight lol I’m still learning clearly

I started learning to crochet about 3 months ago and I've found that I have problems with both tight AND loose tension! I find that my foundation chain is always too tight so I start out with a hook a couple sizes bigger than what the project uses. This def helps. Otherwise, while I'm working on my project, if I notice an issue I will usually take out the stitches and redo that row.

I’m glad that you found something that helps! It does take a lot of time and practice to get the hang of tension. Over time it will vary. Have you tried making a tension regulator?

@@SigoniMacaroni no I haven't but I saw a video that you did about making one and I thought I might try it if I can't improve the tension on my own with practice.

I am very new to crochet and started making a larger piece with just single chochet stitches to get use to the feel of everything and not being to focused on getting it 100% correct all the time but identifying mistakes along the way. The first 10 rows are perfect even stitches and look great however after that the stitches are more loose creating holes and causing the piece to become wider... I pulled back to the good stitches and tried again with more tension and still the stitches pull loose... I am not sure what I am doing wrong... I can make the stitch as tight as possible (barely getting the hook through) and it still creates a loose stitch? Any advice would help greatly 😱

Hi, thanks for the video. I have a question, when I make a yarn over and pull it through a stitch, that stitch stretches out ALOT, it doesn’t matter if I grab and pinch the work with my fingers, always stitches are stretching and making little holes in my crochet 😢😢

    Hi!
Thank you so much for an amazing video!
Each time i crochet for a long amount of time, the yarn is scraping my index finger. [it pains!]
Is there anything you know that i can do or wear to stop this?
Thank you so so much :)

    • @SigoniMacaroni
      @SigoniMacaroni  2 роки тому

Yes! Great question. You can try putting a bandaid around your finger or some sort of finger guard to keep from getting yarn burn. I used to get it all the time too. It also depends on the type of yarn you're working with. But because of you, I'm actually going to create a video on this soon 😊 Thank you for asking this question!

I recently realized I am causing undue stress by using my middle finger to guide my yarn (rather than index) when I began Continental knitting (since it is the most similar to crochet) and need to retrain myself both for knitting and crochet since it is the same hold.

My work always comes out nicely but I have an issue of my stitches(the ones i put my hook into (Vs) coming loose and stretching out especially when im using only front or back loop alone. I never know if that's normal or not because usually in the videos it doesn't happen to the person teaching T-T
