I have watched so many videos on how to to Foundation Double Crochet and this is the absolute best explanation! Your instructions are very clear and concise. Thank you so much for this video!
this immediately became the best tutorial when you pointed out how keeping that one loop loose prevents the stitching from curving. it was driving me nuts and none of the other tutorials i watched mentioned it! thank you!
Holy crap, can't explain how excellent this video is. I read blog posts and watched other videos and just couldn't figure out what to do. You're now my go to crochet explainer!
Thank you! I am a seasoned crocheter of over 15 years but have never done FDC before. I can't tell you the amount of FDC tutorials I watched and I still couldn't get it. Your video fixed that for me. Thank you. ❤
I love how nice the foundation stitch makes my projects. Thank you for supplying a good tutorial that I can always come back to if I forget what I’m doing.
I bought a crochet pattern bc I didn’t know how to make a part of it on my own just by looking at it, and didn’t know what it was called since I’ve only been crocheting for a month. In the pattern I bought it just says “make a foundation double crochet row” and I was like HUH. Thank you for this video!!!!! Showing up close exactly where we need to put the hook and and saying how many loops we should have on our hook is so helpful! I didn’t even know what I didn’t know, and now I have the confidence to try it!
You explain so well, and i love that you go back at first so we can do it with you instead of having to go back on the video all the time!! Amazing tutorial, thank you :))
This is FDC for Dummies! I have given up on this soooo many times before seeing this. Thanks for giving me the confidence to attempt something beyond "chain 254 and row 1 double crochet"...bottom row was always smaller than the rest.
Crocheting a base chain of over 200 stitches (and keeping them neat and even by using the proper tension) was so frustrating that I had to give your technique a try. Success😊!
Have been trying to learn this Project Start for a long long time (I have a gazillion books )- Well, YOU DID IT! I now know how to make a FOUNDATION CHAIN CROCHET!!! Yipee!!! Thanks
Thank you so much 💖 I finally understand where to insert the hook after making a stitch....I could never see exactly where the hook should go. I'm so excited to begin a project again after many tries😅 You're a great teacher 😍 New subscriber here 👍
Thank you for such an awesome video! I’ve tried to do the FDC for a long time, and because of your video, it’s the first time I’ve been successful! From one Home Ec teacher to another, fantastic demo!😊
Loved your way of explaining. Had viewed some other videos but was confused about where to begin the next foundation stitch. Got perfect clarity after viewing your video. Thankyou♥️
Definitely got to grips with foundation single and double crochet with your videos. Hate starting with chain as I always make it too tight. No problems now😂❤🎉
I had the same problem with starting with a chain for my projects. That's why I love the foundation stitches and use them any time I can! I am so glad my videos helped you! :)
Great tutorial… you explained it perfectly as to where I actually put the hook to create the stitches after the first one. And, you’re the only tutorial that said chain 3 to begin, and it came out perfect (1 said ch 4 and 1 said ch 1 and I couldn’t get it).
After searching several older books, looking at 3 other tutorials, I think you have actually made it a lot clearer how to do this stitch - I still need lots of practice and wish I had an drawn image on this technique, but this is great - Thank you so much😊 do you have a stitch diagram reference drawing?
I am totally blind, and your tutorial is the best one out there so far my only question is when you were holding the chain of three and you have the not away from you and the hook close to you too going from left to right of the strand in the first tune, do you go through? I’m a bit confused on that plus when I was making the first one I had this big bulge of the other two chains are supposed to go into the bottom of the other chain. I am very confused if someone could help me out, I’d appreciate it because this looks so much easier than dealing with a long strand of chain and trying to keep it from twisting. Also, I am teaching myself how to crochet. Thanks again.
@@mr.mrs.inglesby2546 I work the 1st foundation double crochet into the chain with the knot. I usually put 2 of the 3 strands (or legs as I call them) of that chain on the top of my hook and 1 on the bottom. The other 2 chains of that initial chain 3 shouldn’t bulge. If they do, you may want to try chaining a little tighter. I hope this answers your question. If it doesn’t feel free to ask me more! Happy crocheting! 🙂
This is great! I never knew about dis kinda stitch! I'm jus wondering if theres a certain way to end dis tho? I'm gonna start a scarf so I'd jus like to know before i reach da end
You just keep repeating until you have the number of stitches that you need. You then chain and turn and start the next row. There is no special way to end this stitch. Hope this help! :)
Thank you so much. This is the perfect tutorial for dummies like me. I've crocheted a blanket 1/3 of the way. Saw problems. Frogged. Tried chain, then SC for a neat finish. This tightened entire length by >40%. Frogged. Now I'm here. QUESTION: The pattern starts right on the First Row after making 178 chains. If I do a DC foundational row, how do I know which is RIGHT side and WRONG side? With this, I'll be starting the pattern on Second Row instead of first row. Please help. 🙏
If you check out my video on fixing problems with foundation stitches, I show how to go to the next row after using a FDC, among many other things! I hope this helps! :) ua-cam.com/video/oNBcnQ6tANA/v-deo.html
After the first couple of DCs, I get lost as to where to insert for the next stitch. Do you have a video that specifically points to where the next DC stitch goes? Is it the bottom of the first "chain" of the previous DC stitch? You are a wonderful teacher!
@@mollyhahn1906 It is at the bottom of the first loop or chain of the previous FDC stitch. I am working on a blog photo tutorial for this stitch, which I hope to have up soon too! Thanks for the kind words! :)
If I have just completed a row of FDC stitches, the next row gets worked into the side that is currently closest to my crochet hook. I usually chain and flip/turn to start the next row so that side is in the correct place. I hope that makes sense! :)
This looks very easy. Thank you. I just have one question: is it still advisable to use a larger hook for this type of foundation chain to eliminate the curve? Or is there no curve with this method?
Great question! It actually doesn't matter what size hook you use, what is most important with keeping the FDC from curving is keeping the first loop created by a YO and pull through the stitch a little looser. I have a a video tutorial that covers this very topic! ua-cam.com/video/oNBcnQ6tANA/v-deo.html
I am going to go away and use this technique as the first row of a filet crochet project I am about to start. I dreaded chaining 114 stitches and then going back
hi there! beginner here, thank you for such a detailed explanation. I am planning to use this stitch rather for a blanket pattern, rather than a chain then double crochet. Question: does this foundation double crochet stitch count as the first row of double crochet on my regular chain/dc pattern?
example if it helps to understand what I’m asking: pattern says - chain 152. row 1: double crochet in 4th ch from hook. DC in each Ch after (150st). chain 3, turn work row 2: DC in 2nd stitch
I have a question. I am very new to crocheting and I want to try this. My question is, when a pattern starts out with a chain that is multiples of 6 plus 3. Can you explain how do you do that in the chain less foundation chain?
It would just be multiples of 6. The plus 3 is for creating the first stitch with a chain and stitch, so if you use the foundation double crochet to start, you would just need multiples of 6. Keep in mind that the Foundation Double Crochet counts as one row of double crochet stitches to start (it would be the same as chaining and then creating a row of double crochets). I hope this makes sense! Happy crocheting! :)
