Crochet food is how i keep in touch with my granddaughter who lives far away. She requests certain foods for her "kitchen" and has only stumped me with "roast chicken". We play restaurant and hotel over zoom. We have salad bar, made to order pizza, full breakfasts with pancakes, waffles and eggs plus all the ingredients to make tacos.Recently I heard her say "grandpa you know we don't have chocolate cake, we only have lemon cake. If you want chocolate it has to be a cookie." Chocolate cake was in the mail the next week. When she was little she called me Grandma yarn.

I live in northern Alberta, Canada. We get -20 Celsius in the winter all the time, and -30 Celsius is not uncommon, and we almost yearly get 1 week of -40 Celsius, and in there a -50 Celsius day, although we didn’t get that one last year.
When it’s that cold, your nose runs. A lot. Those nose warmers will be covered in snot very quickly. Also, I find that when it’s that cold, crocheted scarves and hats aren’t warm enough, even with 100% wool, unless the hat is lined with polar fleece, or you have two hats, and have the crocheted one on thr outside of the inner fleece hat.
Those nose warmers will be useless for warmth, and covered in snot, which will then freeze solid.
They belong on the worst crocheted items in history list 😁

11:24 I actually made this doll for myself to educate my child about pregnancy and birth. Then I made one for a friend who is a midwife who went to a country in East Africa. She went there to teach life saving skills to the women who assist with births in rural communities. As part of the program, they set up a clinic with a midwife. My doll now lives in that clinic and the midwife uses it to educate the pregnant women about their pregnancies and things that are happening to their bodies. My friend said the doll will be a valuable tool since some of these women might not have received sex education or know what’s happening to their bodies or might not know what happens during a c section.
When she went on her trip, she emailed me pictures and videos of some of the women in the program hugging and rocking with the doll. You could see how much they loved it. The doll can give birth vaginally or via c section and I sewed snap pieces on the nipples and the baby’s mouth so she can be used to teach breastfeeding techniques too.
I think about that doll often and making it has been hands down one of the most rewarding things I have ever done. It makes me smile knowing I’ve had an impact on a community on the other side of the world.

I live where there's winter, and I was thrilled to get a sherpa steering wheel cover as a gift. For exactly the reason you cite, I pitched it after a month of trying to use it. I would also add that it bulks up your steering wheel so that if you have small hands, it makes it harder and more fatiguing to hold on to. I was so sad to have to take it off, because it did keep my hands from freezing, but it just didn't work for me.

She actually isn't a teen at 44 years old but drop dead gorgeous. Also my Grandma crocheted me a bikini out of fine cotton yarn and a tiny hook when I was a teen that I loved so much I wore it out. Fingerless gloves are great for keeping your hand and arms warm while still be able to work. Last winter I really felt the difference when I wore them.
Im planning on making myself an umbrella for shade in the summer. 1. It's unique and will keep you from burning under the scorching sun. 2. It won't build up heat like a regular umbrella does. I used an umbrella this summer once because there were absolutely no shade at the bus stop and agter about 5 minutes, the fabric started spewing heat towards me and I was cooking under there. 3. They look beautiful and kinda badass. You don't see people walking around with them much in western countries but with the summer months getting hotter each year, I can see this becoming more of a thing in the future.

I’ve made 2 of these, though one I knit instead of crocheting. I knit a steering wheel cover, but I only used it when the car was parked in the sun to keep the steering wheel cool, not while driving. Obviously, mine was much looser than any of the ones shown, so it was quick and easy to put on when I parked, then take off when I was ready to drive. Works great as long as you don’t try to drive with it.
The other is a parasol. I used an umbrella with a torn canopy I got at a garage sale. It had a particularly nice handle, so I crocheted a lace canopy, removed the torn nylon one, and it works amazingly to help me from getting sunburned when I need to stand around in full sun at noon. I wear a wide brim hat and light open shirt with long sleeves too, but the additional shade from the parasol helps cover the gaps in those, and makes them cooler, since less sun is hitting them. Very useful and just really pretty too.

I enjoyed this episode for the excellent tongue in cheek wonderfulness of your presentation. So much research was needed! And showing us a number of models for each example. I'm beyond impressed!

Woollen underwear is just gross. I would be itching like crazy.
I'm 52yrs and my grandma's generation would make toilet dolls. I didn't like them when I was a kid and still don't like them

The crochet umbrella would work really well on the inside of a clear/transparent umbrella to help with reducing the sound for people with sensory sensitivities.

Great idea! I just wonder if it would make the umbrella really heavy when it's wet??? 🧶

@@EliseRoseCrochet you put the crochet on the inside basically under the waterproof layer that way it reduces the noise without getting wet

I had an old vintage knitting book that contained patterns for a coffee filter????? and a harness leash for your toddler. LOL Thanks for the fun video!

My daughter’s significant other asked me to crochet him a pair of boxers. I did, and then ask him later, how he liked them, or if he wore them. He laughed and told me they were too hot.😂 He had picked the yarn and it was really nice and soft.
I’ve also made the Burnat blanket water balloons. They have to be dried thoroughly, or they start smelling sour. But, because they’re washable and dryable that was no issue as for the fingerless gloves, my sister-in-law wears a type of glove on her hands to drive. I don’t know that crochet would work or what her needs are. They may serve other purposes, then just for warmth.
Always enjoy your smiling face! Thanks bunches!!!

I agree with all of your comments whole heartedly! The toilet seat cover that went on the actual SEAT made my jaw drop a bit. Also, fingerless gloves are adorable and very practical! My little ones love wearing them on chilly mornings waiting for the school bus ❤

I'm sight impaired and use a long cane. I'm making fingerless gloves/ wrist warmers at the moment because this winter my hands will always be out and the lack of fingers will help me use the cane better than mittens.

This has been hilarious 🤣 I do remember having a woollen crochet swimsuit as a child in the late 1950’s! Whenever I came out of the sea it was down to my knees and weighed a ton until Grandma had rung it out a bit 🤣🤣🤣

I live in the PNW I have crochet many fingerless gloves for gifts. Office staff working in a cool temperature building needing to keep their hands warm and their fingers free so they can use the computer. The gloves were a hit and I have had many requests for them. I used the Prim-N-Stitches pattern easy and fast, love it.

I love watching your videos while I crochet! I was getting nervous because I'm making a crocheted shawl for my grandma (yes, the grandkid is crocheting for the grandma! backwards society!) and it's essentially a granny square pattern and I was like "I hope this isn't on the list!"

Hahahaha, I made soul-less sandals for my sister's wedding and walked around covertly barefoot at her super posh outdoor Colorado wedding in South Fork! They were cute and comfortable and I got to be free and easy while all of the other bridesmaids tried to walk through the grass in heels😊

Crocheted bikinis would be on my list of “no thank you” projects!
I love fingerless gloves! I live in NY and while I wouldn’t shovel snow with them, I wear them a lot during fall and winter. There are so many cute patterns!

I love the animal babies! I had a kitten surprise (don't for sure remember what it was called) where there was a momma cat and you'd get 2-4 babies from the velcro pouch in her belly. I was so excited when I got that for Christmas! Seeing the same idea, homemade and in so many varieties, is awesome!

Parasols! I have collected umbrellas, parasols, and Asian wax-umbrellas.
Now I want to do a parasol project, if only I can source the cane and ribs.
Thanks for getting me back on this one!

I love fingerless mitts! I live where it is cold in the winter but as we keep our heat low to save $$, those fingerless mitts keep my hands warm in the house. My husband even wears them when working from home on his computer.

My great grandma and my grandma made booties for adults, to be worn to bed in winter. Actually not a bad idea, since we didn't have wall to wall carpeting, and when you need to use the bathroom ( ice cold floor tiles!) in the middle of the night your toes stayed warm! The booties came with a little bolero style jackets. Everything was done in pastel colors, embellished with matching ribbon. A labor of love. We all received new sets every Christmas.

I love how the husband looks at the crocheted version of himself - it almost looks like he views it as a threat! 😂
I was expecting to see crochet organs on the list, they're pretty weird and kinda morbid, but I'm glad they weren't as I love them! I have a crochet colon (a birthday gift after I had my actual colon removed) and it's so cute!

💖💗💓 this! (I’m a crocheter since age 5, now 68 y.o.) I agree with your opinions on these items generally. And I’ve made pairs and pairs of fingerless mitts for friends and family in N. and S. California and everyone loves them. My husband wore his to shreds.
