VALVE ADJUSTMENT TOYOTA 22RE

Hey guys. I’m not an expert at this but if you’re looking for some basic info on how to adjust your valves on a 22RE, or practically any engine for that matter, this should get you headed in the right direction.
Check the links below for the LC Engineering instructions and the Factory Service Manual (FSM) available for download in .pdf format.
LCE also has an excellent how to video with a new engine, this might just help you visualize it with the engine already in and running.
Should do this check every 60,000 miles.
Specs: (@ operating temp)
Intake 0.008 inch (0.2 mm)
Exhaust 0.012 inch (0.3 mm)

I found I engineering great..if you still hear a tapping sound on completion,put a spanner on the back dome but and move half a turn back the sound will go.its resonating sound between the rockers and the rocket box cover..couple of ways to fix,get new grommets for the two nuts and make sure the cork gasket is not squash down.you only need a small tightning..

i adjusted my valves a little tight by doing that i eliminated the tapping noise and the engine runs better could it harm the engine if the lash is a little tight

I’m not an engine builder or import tuner, but yeah, my understanding is that if you don’t have the proper gap then essentially your valves never close fully which could blow exhaust past your valves, cake the valves and seat surfaces, and burn the valves themselves. I’d take a little rattle over those.
Surely this has been debated over the internet about just how tight is tolerable. Remember to adjust them warm!
