After filling out that form I realized that
1) I legit haven't faced enough Snake players online to feel confident ranking him, which is crazy because that character is insanely good.
2) I don't really enjoy playing against anyone lol. I didn't give out a single 5 and I gave two characters a 4, those being Doc and Sephiroth. I feel like part of it is because most characters in this game have something about them that is annoying. Also I'm just not the type of player to be happy about fighting a certain character, I get more excited to play a certain player if anything.
It was evil to click bait us by leaving the top ten out of the short and didn't even try to pretend it wasn't. That being said I am here and I filled out the form.

Might as well be a top 10 list only because there's like 10 characters that are actually fun to play against at all in a competitive environment, and only about half the roster is fun to play against in a casual environment lol and that's being generous.
In my eyes, the Sonic situation is probably the worst, simply because his optimal play style is a completely night and day with his personality. In his home series Sonic is cocky, in-your-face, hitting poses mid-combo, not an annoying little gremlin that pokes you a few times and then runs away. (His moveset also incredibly rushed and never substantially updated, but that’s an entire different story.)

He pretty much runs until he can find a good hit in boss battles.
@@AWater22 most of those high-speed boss fights are him running to _catch up_ to whatever thing is being thrown at him. Look at the fights in Sonic Colors, Unleashed, Frontiers… Sonic may be annoying, but doesn’t fight like a b*tch.
Richter is higher than Simon because he is hot as fuck.
I feel like much of the moveset fits Richter more since his more evasive burst options are exclusively from Richter in his game. Up-B and D-Tilt being core tools of Richter.

I disagree with this claim. I care more about HAVING FUN than winning. I'm not going to start playing min min because I lose with Mario because imo she is not fun. It's a video game and if all you care about is winning, I wouldn't want to know you at all.
Having only 12 characters instead of 74 tends to help too.

This list is a prime reminder of how competitive Smash Bros is FAR different from casual Smash Bros.
I'm comfortable with where Byleth is being #10, there's people where they like the character (that person being me) and those who may not like the character. Everyone has their own opinion about each and every character they either enjoy or don't enjoy but considering I've played and mained Byleth almost ever since they're been released, I really like the game style I have for them.
Considering I mostly like fighters with a fast playstyle, I'm surprised that I like Byleth as much as I do.
Felt this, I mained Byleth even before MKLeo picked them up. I just find their moveset and balanced agility really sync well with my natural play style and what I look for in a character. Happy to seem them at number 10.

I'm glad Byleth is getting the recognition he deserves even when he was known as the most hated addition in smash bros history. His existence actually intrigued me to buy three houses and now it's one of my favourites games.

In general, I think I just enjoy playing all of the fire emblem reps.
I remember a friend of mine who loves FE, especially Three Houses, was really excited when I told her the new rep was from that game, but when I said it was Byleth, she went "oh WHATEVER!"
I’m just tired of people hating on the Fire Emblem universe, saying that there are too many “aNiMe SwOrDieS,” yes, they will call them “swordies.”
@@BJGvideosByleth is the least interesting part of their own game by a mile. They are a largely silent protagonist outside of crit one-liners and they are much less interesting than the other main characters and also the entire supporting cast.
The other characters are really good though. They just had to pick Byleth because they couldn't show bias towards one faction.

I honestly think the "visual appeal" the Bayonetta commenter was talking about are her trails on the punches, the spiraly effects on the kicks, and other such particle effects.
I'm Glad K. Rool was on here, hitting that back air spike with him is more satisfying than eating a delicious cake.

Interestingly, although people said "too many swordfighers", all the DLC swordfighers other than Sora are very high
They all have more creative movesets than just "swing sword", that's probably why.
People simply hate Fire Emblem because they assume it’s the same thing over and over, I’m assuming. Not me.
A lot of people think Falcon is lame now, but he’s still my favorite character across the series. Glad to see him so high up.

It's also interesting to see that even the most popular character had people who hated them and the least popular had people who loved them. Ultimate having such an amazing variety of characters makes the game so much more fun since everyone can find someone they enjoy even if they are a top 1% DK hater like me :)
Simon vs Richter comes down to player psychology I think. For some reason Simon just attracts the worst of the worst sweaty camping you'll ever encounter.
While Richter players still camp, they always go for more interesting plays and combo routes and just generally are much more proactive in their play-style.
This is on averages of course, some regions I'm sure are full of the opposite, but this is what I've observed. After thinking about it and watching some replays I think its an interesting quirk of human psychology or something similar regardless.
Edit: I'd love to see the same quiz with the question of least liking to play against rather than play as!
That's funny. I prefer Simon and I tend to get more in there rather than camp. Now Villager, that's a camping character!
As a Simon main i go completely against this sentiment. I play really aggressive with drag down nair and down air combos in close quarters, returning Cross to set up into Up Bs, down airs, nairs, etc.
Also, hearing Richter say "Take this!" over and over is annoying whether i play AS or AGAINST him
You should have also done a rating for playing against characters. A lot of your observations around like characters being hated or disliked make less sense when we're considering playing as them rather than against them. Like at 8:00, people complaining about DLC are obviously coming at it from the perspective of playing against the DLC characters, not as them. So it's honestly not all that surprising that they ranked higher on average than the base game. I'm sure this statistic might look a lot different if we came at it from the opposite approach.
I also think that a lot of that comes from simply parroting the opinions of popular content creators, which is a VERY bad way to form opinions since they will tend to just not like a particular character because their main is bad in the matchup.
I mean, I remember the hate that got out of control for the supposed OP nature of Aegis because of Marrs for example. The character is good sure, but definitely nothing to complain about going up against.
All i want is for Sonic to have a new moveset. One of Frontiers' main selling points is the combat. There is literally no excuse if Smash 6 happens. Really, the only two moves that can stay are the Spin Dash and Homing Attack. Other than that? REMOVE ALL BALL MOVES!!

Great video dude, I really enjoyed this! I have always wanted Ganondorf to have a more unique moveset so he isn't heavy Captain Falcon, but seeing him in number 2 is going to make a new moveset super difficult for Nintendo to make. Trying to balance what makes him so fun and changing him completely would be difficult. If I were to change it, I would completely change Ganondorf, but keep the old moveset as a different character. I would say give it to Black Shadow, another character from F-Zero. Also, if you're ever up for it, a list of characters that are the least fun to play against would be cool too.
Video idea: Hold another survey with a ton of characters from other games and have people vote on who they would like to get in the next game the most!

People hate fire emblem, But they all did really well.
Robin (62) being the lowest probably cause of resource management.
But all the others are in like the top 35, really goes to show how they are actually pretty fun.
People love to complain about FE being overrepresented in Smash (and tbf even as a big fan of FE myself I would agree) but when the next game cuts a good chunk of them people are gonna be really upset. To their credit they've done good with differentiating them from Robin all the way to Byleth but maybe it'd be nice if there were less FE avatars in Smash overall

@gormflaith2326 I will be honest as much as it is sad to admit, yeah it would be better if there were less avatars and more FE lords. (Though tbf, its not gonna be easy to pick them since 90% of them mainly uses swords and use a Rapier type weapon) but I would love to see them use other FE lords that are not sword focused like Ephraim, Hector, Edelgard, Dimitri, Claude or Micaiah. Part of me believes that Corrin and Robin are probably not gonna make it to the next Super Smash bros game (especially Lucina and Chrom as well) which is a shame to say as a Robin main, but it is rather obvious that the FE cast is definitely gonna be trimmed down by a lot next Smash bros game, with very likely Marth, Roy, Ike, and Byleth staying in the next game
@62swordsmen no way Roy stays over at least one awakening rep. He was removed once, he isn't untouchable, his game while pretty popular in Japan is nowhere near Awakenings level.
@user-eh1tv9pj2d Roy was literally brought back in Smash 4 as a DLC because of high demand and so many fans asked to bring him back. Whether if thats a one time thing from Nintendo or not, Roy has a high chance of coming back do to popularity and likely because he is a Smash bros veteran at this point. I guess that same argument can be made about Chrom and Lucina, but Roy is a GBA games rep and if they're gonna keep at least 1 Awakening character, Robin is the way to go, he is the most unique among the three of them as Chrom and Lucina are literally echoes. (But unfortunately for Robin, he didn't exactly get good reception, so in less Awakening gets a remake, I don't know if Nintendo will be inclined to keep him if very little is going to miss him and there is no awakening hype to keep him around)

You need to do the "play against" version and average it with the "play as" data, so we can actually see which characters are good, because great characters are the ones you have fun playing as or playing against. Some characters are fun to play but people hates to play against them so they may actually enjoy the game more if they weren't there.
It’s very cool seeing the playstyle differences, byleth is the *only* character in the top 10 I enjoy playing
What’s interesting about some of these is that with a few mechanics changes it would be a lot more bearable, even to fight the campy characters. Sonic in particular feels like not only should he get move changes, but probably some sort of “incentive” system where the more he lands hits in a short amount of time the stronger he gets (and weaker if he hasn’t landed hits in a while, meaning camping would get less good, encouraging more approaching). A mechanic like that could be applied to many characters but him in particular would benefit from it. Maybe make it so moves that reach far like projectiles or even Min Min’s arms or Sephiroth’s sword have lower values that “bring up” the multiplier of such a mechanic if it was universally applied, so that even characters *capable* of camping would be incentivized to still “get in” and do combos at close range if they want early kills or more damage.
Putting Steve at number 63 is a crime

Bayo kind of got nerfed too much tbh. Her game-plan is literally try to do one or two big combos bring the opponent to 100% or so and start fishing for back air because that literally her only kill move. If you are lucky you can get a kill on the top with ending the combo with a f-air but most people at this point know to di away and down to avoid dying off the top. I enjoy playing as her until it comes to needing to actually kill lol
It also depends on the Smash game. Some characters are more hated in other Smash games.
This is specifically about Ultimate and those who filled out the form knew this.

If this was a list of "Which character would I want to bury 7000 feet under the ground then blip away with the infinity stones", it would be Min Min. The single most unfun character in Smash history.
Beating her feels like a game of luck, because there's almost nothing you can do about those damn arms, AND she has good close range tools. AND A REFLECTOR!!
When a character can't even be out-camped, you've made a bad character.

I feel this has a very strong "I just played it a hand full of time" bias as well as a popularity bias. Granted I'm a former Olimar player currently playing ice climbers and Lucas.
Also comparing DLC with base game only really compares playing as the character, not against it which is a rather important part of the game.

I do think there is a tiny flaw in the logic behind this in that when you have such a large cast such as ultimate you don't actually want to only make characters that are widely appealing and want to make characters with more specific niches also. Like I think there is a large enough base of olimar and bayo mains where I don't think those characters need that big or changes going into future games. The characters that need changed the most are the ones that are both unpopular widely but also don't have many people that main/favorite them at the same time.
I at least like what regular Link was ranked higher than other variants. Such a shame there are a lot of campers playing him, he is really fun if you're trying to combo for his full potential and not spam projectiles

Fighter pass 2 have some of my favourites though pyra mythra, sephiroph, Steve. (I do like hero though)
I know my main is sonic and I think sonic is my favourite but my least favourite is Ness because he is annoying because of spamming
Richter being higher is because of Symphony of the Night and he's hot.
What i can gather is that a lot of people really like simplicity and a bit of mindless game plans. You see some of the more complex combo heavy characters like Sora Peach and Sheik on the lower end of this list while DK reigns on top.
I don't think Bayo is as complicated as people think she is at least casually. Part of her design is think ahead and plan your positions then style and retreat. If it fails, bat within outta there.
I said I like that she's a balance of complex enough to keep my mind jogging while simple enough I'm not giving myself carpal tunnel syndrome.

As a Banjo and kazooie main I am surprised people hate banjo and kazooie, but as a banjo and kazooie main we have no purpose in society
People really hate characters that camp a lot and their kit doesn’t have a lot of satisfying moves to hit (subjective but I think people tend to agree with that). The highest character on the list who I consider to camp a lot is Palutena at #43 and she has a lot more fun moves than banjo imo

Comparing the average rating from DLC to the main game is inherently unfair just because one of them has eight times the amount of characters, so there's a lot more to pull from

This can be redone in 2 ways, there is how fun is each character to fight against (outside of dittos), and there is how fun is each character in a ditto like Mario v Mario or Steve v Steve

I find it interesting that dedede was the only heavy not to make top 10. Although it actually makes sense. The rest of the list proved that everyone loves heavies and everyone hates campers and Dedede is a sort of heavy camper. Although with how high up he still is it seems that being a heavy is more important than being a camper
As a Bayo main, She is the most fun out of all the characters to play for me. People say she is hard to learn and she is but some of her basic combos do like 50 damage and she’s very rewarding if you learn how to use her. She also has some insane recovery and edge guarding.

There is no way people trashed her in smash 4 yet when she’s leveled out and actually made to resemble her slasher, combo locked character in ultimate, she’s still trashed. Disliking a character because “their combos are just too hard…” is pretty bleak and stupid. It really shows how easy people want character mechanics to be for them😂

@@BJGvideos definitely not if she was in the BOTTOM 5 for her combos. The top 10 says it all. People want some easy mastery character who takes barely any skill, learning, and grasping of mechanics to actually win with. If the character is too hard to play against because the player who uses them is skillful, people complain. If the character is not skillful enough and people use them how they were made, people complain. If the character themselves TAKE SKILL and not just button mashing, people complain. They don’t want quality characters.

Funny enough, out of our friend group olimar is the "fuck it we ball" pick, cause for some reason, no matter who uses him, he will win in a reverse 3 stock, also, big monkey, my main!
Corrin, Byleth, and Ike are my top 3 characters to play, depending on how I feel at the moment, I am a Fire Emblem fan so that does influence it, but I love to hit Corrin’s combos, and Ike’s big moves, and Byleth kinda has a mix, and has great spacing as well
I don't think that DLCs were to proven to be better with this. Saying a character is more fun to play as does not mean that they're not overpowered. Those are two completely separate categories. Saying Aegis is fun to play as doesn't mean they aren't extremely powerful, maybe a bit too much for a lot of other characters to compete with.

I think the next Smash game should have Black Shadow as the 2nd F-Zero character and use Ganondorf’s current move set, and then give Ganondorf a new move set

I play Wario, Plant and Young Link. I expected YL below Plant than Wario above him. But no, Wario was lower than YL and Plant above him.
As a bayonetta main i am shocked an appalled. She's literally the character i go to when i think "i want to have fun"

You heard the damn reasonings as well. “Her combos are just so hard to learn…” “she’s too light” “I can’t get a good outcome from her combos.” These people HATED her in smash 4 (understandable to an extent) then proceeded to TRASH her despite being leveled out while still having a versatile and fun artillery. You can just tell which players avoid skillful characters for the easiest to use😭
Favorite: Mewtwo. I love how it levitates to move around and uses its psychic powers for its moves and even to hold items. Its final smash is my favorite as well. I even made a combo of using Down+B to stun your opponent, Side+B to spin them in the air and knock them to the ground, then Side/Down Smash to send them flying.
Least Favorite: Villager. I prefer Neutral+B moves that are some type of projectile, charging, or active damage type of move. I've never liked the Down+B moves or other moves that are just counters. I've never had the reaction reflex for them. With Villager, I hit Neutral+B and, keep feeling like there's supposed to be a projectile there. Its Neutral+A attack feels too short-ranged and too weak even though it's supposed to be a quick punching attack. Its Down+B is a multi-step move that can't be used until the final step and you can use the ax or cut down the tree and hope it falls on an opponent. Its Side+B move, to me, feels underwhelming and can be countered by other opponents because Villiager telegraphs the move by jumping on the rocket beforehand.

This is so crazy to me. I’m a MinMin main, and I chose her because when I was starting out, she was the only character that felt both intuitive and right to me
hero is a great casual character but his competitive gameplan is pretty eh. he doesn't approach unless he has his buffs on and if you try to stop him, he'll throw one of his unreactable spells at you for 20%.
Olimar is my least favorite character to play as well, I hate playing him and playing against him, and he’s by far my lowest GSP character with 1.89 million
If you do a play against version of this, it could be interesting to track what character people main to see the effect that has on their opinion. For example, I like fighting Samus when I play Falco, but I like her way less as anyone else.

There is a big difference between playing against vs playing as
(Dabuz is innocent, dlc is not healthy for the game)
Of course people will enjoy the EASY overpowered gimmick characters, the ease of the character being very important, since most base game gimmick characters are also the most hated
Base game complex characters are tough to learn for mid reward, vs just learning how to use dlc for insured high reward (they are also way easier to learn in general)
Fun fact technically because there is more base game characters than dlc the averages are actually in the dlc’s favour as they need less characters above and below the 3.00 average compared to the base which has lots of characters which means it is pulled down more often than the dlc which thus means technically you can never truly know whether dlc or base characters are better
Not a statistician here, but a stats enthusiast. I just wanted to point out the the "3.00 vs. 2.92" comparison is, at the very least, incomplete, especially since they are so close. A t-test will tell you whether or not they are statistically significantly different.
Also, even if the DLC were rated higher, I wouldn't be terribly surprised since they got WAAAAAAAY more testing love than the main roster. Also, also, we REALLY need to look at how fun/not fun they are to play against. I guarantee DLC would be way worse off.

Also I'm gonna guess that the reason why Fox (6:30) is in the top middle is because of how he's paper thin levels of fragile.
Looking at this list gives me the thought that the lower tiers are more enjoyable to play than the top tiers.

You unlock one of every Mii in World of Light, meaning you don't have to create one yourself to play them. They are simply unlockable, just like most of the cast. They simply have a different way of unlocking them.
I like Incineroar most because he’s fun and I usually win as him, and I remember reading something in the tips section of the game that he’s the slowest so it made me feel like an underdog, and that I’m winning with a handicap, even though his very low speed doesn’t really matter.
Roy and Chrom are quite different, i don't know why they are lumped together.

As a former Ganon main, I love playing as Sephiroth. He still relies on bait and punish but he has enough utility and mobility to work with most matchups.

I would say I hate min-min the most because they took my 4 the favorite game and took my least favorite from the game and put her as the main character, and my 4th favorite character in it as the assist trophy… despite him being the mascot, I wish ninjaro won that tournament so he would make it into smash bros
