It has come to my attention that the horsepower figures are off. Thanks Google 😧... The CR250R makes mid 40's stock. My apologies.
Update! Rematch video has been added! We swap bikes! Check it out! ua-cam.com/video/IRGbZx5IooY/v-deo.html
ElectroBraap yeah just a little lol 😂
Shiny Knife I accidently deleted your other comment instead of replying...smh sorry... The cr250 makes 40-45 to the tire and my MXR model claims 50hp.
Oh ok there website said 40. I was looking at buying a street legal Super Moto one. Would it make a 50 Mile round trip at highway speeds on one charge you think?
Ok I saw it the MXR is rated at 50hp the super moto is rated at 42
Shiny Knife I think so. Depends on how you ride it of course. If you primarily do freeway riding I believe you could gear it up a bit to help with range. That's only a theory though.
Alta MXR is the QUICKER bike.
Honda CR250R is the FASTER bike.
Good video. Decently shot and to the point.
rjwz28 yep on a long stretch and this race is not fair because we all know that dirtbikes like to spin out in the gravel this would be different if they were on a concrete Strip
The electric bike has 15 minutes of battery life
This is like the 2 year that redshift has been available and it’s already beating a cr250 to prob 40-45 mph. In 5 years they’ll be dominating motocross.
it's like the old 2 stroke vs. 4 stroke argument. 2 strokes were quicker accelerating, 4 strokes faster at top speed. Electrics quicker than both but slower up top. Get the weight down and these bikes would be unbelievable in woods racing.
@@kriscarter576 no it dont where u get that from it4 hours of trail riding and 25 min i pro motocross and has a 1.5 hour charge time nice try to troll
Thank you for taking the time & expense to make, edit and upload these videos... even while I'd imagine you'd rather just be riding!
Those first two are very informative and inspiring for most riding contexts.
I hope your subscriber base grows to include all motorcycle enthusiasts... as well as others who will see this technology in their ATVs, personal water craft, snowmobiles and other vehicles in years to come.
Thanks again for the great videos!
Guy on cr wasn’t even hitting power band
Love the sound of that 2 stroke cr250 all day!..
That's a 4 stroke
Sorry just heard the engine lol
68mph good enough for a dirt bike, but the combustion engine sound is irreplaceable and that sound missing u will soon realise that the braaap is as much part of the fun as the riding!
Michael Bennett I still have my gas bikes! They aren't going anywhere! You will probably see them pop up in future videos.
The performance of the Alta is just too good. The gas bikes seem like a novelty thing for me at this point.
Electric is better for the sport.
Facts
ElectroBraap
Exactly
Love the electric bikes on the market & whether fortunately or unfortunately they will be around for the future. I would definitely miss shifting gears though.
awesome vid love the editing everything clearly explained.. I just wish other people’s videos were like this keep up the good work👌
Awesome! Such power!
Thanks again for the video man.
Thanks for watching! ❤
VERY IMPRESSIVE💯🍻
...everything I've seen on the MXR has it equal to factory/race team built and maintained 250 four strokes and just slightly outpaced by the stock 450F's. This was interesting seeing it run against the two stroke 250, wouldn't have expected that outcome!! The neatest thing from my point of view is that you can ride it in your own backyard or neighborhood empty lot and not piss off the neighbors or get the (always fun!) visit from the police called for disturbing the peace (quiet.) Good video, keep up the posts! : )'
I'm all for electric anything, cars, motorcycles, etc. cuz I love the planet we live on! But one thing you can't replace is the vibrations and noises of a combustion engine! That's one thing I would certainly miss when riding/driving an electric anything
I love the planet too, but batteries are far more dependant on power plants (coal fired, or fuel powered)
And batteries only last a given amount of hrs for either years or cycles (then where do those nasty things go.....leached out somewhere into our water supply one way or another) truth is we'll never be able to afford to completely shun combustion engine, it's just not feasible
Also where do the materials for electric vehicles? Mined from the earth so yeah. Strip mine materials to make Ev batteries which releases pollution and damages the environment.
@@aaronmiller5012 mines make good dirtbike tracks when their done
Dude, I've been jones'n for an electric hard enduro, trials bike. This thing looks sick!
YAAAAA. GOOOD !!!
I subscribed solely because of your announcing the corners.
crazyontwowheels lmfao
Thank you for clearing that up on the Fusion...been trying to decide to get it or not.
Short shift the hell out of that 2 stroke
shiting was bad on he's part :/
Not to mention him downshifting and engine braking 😅 RIP motor
I was taught by the fastest clutch in the south. Ernie Kicklighter in Jax FL.
I put a kill push button on the handlebar so my right thumb could push it momentarily.
By syncing your lift on the shifter and just barely tapping the button you can shift faster and keep your engine wide open and go through your gears a lot quicker.
Who the hell let's off to shift on a start? So painful to watch

ElectroBraap hi cool video how many kw’s is the alto pumping out
@@davidhammond7114 I don't see that spec listed but the conversion from hp to Kw comes out to about 37 Kw. The bike runs a 350v pack.
Nice vid. Cr for life. Maybe ill see you at Carnegie sometime.
I don't know if I could bring myself to do it. However these altas very impressive. The nicest thing about these bikes is getting away with murder in not so noise ordinance friendly areas.
lol - 15MPH speed limit blurred - NOW ALL GOOD!
I also have a 2001 cr250, and had the privilege of drag racing an Alta at an event local to me last year. To sum it up, there was no clear winner. It was fun!
I like to see you when I'm in the track race with with the jumps and everything
I personally love the gas engines better. Love the sound, feel, etc knowing I can ride and ride without having to charge it
I could see this eventually improving to have a much loader braper sound
The guy on the Cr was leaning over the front on acceleration on a hard slick surface.. lots of wheel spin, mid 40’s horsepower is correct, the CR also had a misfire.
I think it’ll be closer if the bike and rider were shipshape 👍🏻
Just my opinion, don’t take it to heart x
Rider on the CR is in shape. It just happens to be round.
My ktm 530xcw has hit 115mph with supermoto wheels and about 105 with knobbies. Its fmf piped and tuned. cool video dude.
That thing don't make no 60 horsepower. Wherever you found that number that was false. Anything 60 + would be a CR500 or a kx500. That CR250 makes about 44 horsepower
Steven Richter link? www.mbike.com/honda/cr250r/2001
ElectroBraap yes I saw that too. But that number is incorrect for sure. If you think that had 60. How much do you think a cr500 puts out? 80? Like the video but that number is absolutely false.
Upper 40's to the wheel maybe. That would make sense.
ElectroBraap dirt bikes don't lose that much to the wheel. If you are measuring horsepower at the countershaft you're already going through the transmission. So all you're turning is a wheel and a tire. It's not like a car that has to turn over a transmission a driveshaft a rear end and 2 wheels. Motorcycles loose from 5 % to 10 % from crank to rear wheel(I believe dirt bikes to be closer to 5%). Where cars can loose 15% to 25% from crank to rw. So if we take the extreme number of 10% and the rwhp of 46. 46x1.1=50.6 hp. That's still 9 less than 60... I used to build these engines for a kart racing company called CMC (Competition Motor Corps). Numbers can also vary depending on dynos. Ours was at the crank on a bench in a sealed environment (dyno room).
Keep in mind that these are fresh engine numbers. If it has 30 hours on it the number would be even less
So what cc would the Alta be considered?
I love the alta great video
The cR still sounds a million times cooler tho
What is your body weight ?
Great video i never saw an electric dirtbike
What are the drivetrain gearing options for the Alta?
oh fun interesting race
How much is the Alta redshift ? Roughly in the uk
So if we change the gear tatio on the gazer what would happened
Can it wheelie? I've ridden some electric Zero bikes and the power doesn't come on quick enough. I'm guessing the Alta being much lighter, it should but I'm going to need to see it!
Tepco Cycle Repair This thing will flip on its back faster than you can say oh s**t. 😂
I think it has more to do with raw power than anything else. Throttle response and power output is adjustable via 4 on the fly selectable maps.
ElectroBraap perfect, yes the Zero DS on full power won't!
When I crack the throttle, I'm used to hearing that loud 2-stroke power-band blast, or the sound of a 4 stroke as it launches me. I think that lack of familiar exhaust would be a bit challenging to get used to at first?
Yea and no. The motor does have a sound. You get used to it pretty quick... I got another race video lined up to come out tonight so keep your eyes peeled because this one's a doozy. 👌👌👌
@@ElectroBraap You can never replace a motocross bike with an engine sound. And im talking 2 stroke and 4 stroke.
That little E bike sound, Wich is nearly nothing! Is lame, Bland and boring. And i know most people don't care how fast E bikes are, They are still lame.
Nobody is saying it’s lame when we are on the podium. 🤷♂️
Good vid . Went exactly how I thouht
I want to see the Alta with a transmission. 🤔Hell just give it 2 gears.
Recently bought an MX, wonder how far behind it would be against the MXR in a drag race...
joshnc101 After you are no longer traction limited, the MX with its 42hp will accelerate 16% slower than the MXR with its 50hp. Join myself and other Alta owners at altaownersforum.com
I felt like the MX was virtually just as fast. But those forks man... THEY SUCK
Yeah I'm gonna have the suspension revalved, even at my slow poke riding ability, they're too plushy. And they bottomed out easily for a much better rider who wasn't even pushing it hard.
The MX Guru Yes, the MX *is* just as fast as the MXR if you are in Maps 1, 2 or 3. Only Map 4 on the MXR is faster. altaownersforum.com/threads/alta-redshift-mxr-and-mx-on-a-dyno-riding-maps-demystified.158/
Gotcha, i never got to map 4 on the MXR, so thats why i didn't notice a difference haha!
how do you top off between rides? a generator? if so how many watts?
ed edson I actually have a video on this exact topic. Check it out! Short answer is I have 4K watt generator.
electric is the way of the future! ima need some berm and wheelie vids!
Get the app that mimics and lets you listen to the vroom vroom sounds in real time through a set of headphones or earbuds.
Plz how much does it cost?
Noobs That dude have no idea how to ride a cr250
I agree
Watch ElectroBraap new video a rematch, that noob rider is riding the alta.
There’s multiple videos of redshifts beating 250s.
michael majewski you prolly don’t either there keyboard warrior
BJ Parsons mah boi
How long does the battery last miles, hours?
I average about 2.5 -3 hours on the trails. It recharges quick though. Inbetween rides I top off and go all day with no issue.
So when I'm 50 miles out on a trail and I have to get back to camp, what are my chances of making it with electric?
Bob Brown zero. 😂😂😂
Actually they will run for a little over two hours almost three
@@paulcherry1520 Yea but 50 miles back from being 50 out? 100 mile round trip? Not possible. I don't know many gas bikes that could do that with out a desert gas tank either though.
3:08
You're welcome.
In defence of the CR250, the guy on it had no idea how to use its power. In those first two drag races he never even hit the power band, he just shifted right through all the gears and by then the race was over. In the last top speed race you got a taste of what it should be like, but he still only hit the band when he got to top gear.
Lewis MX We addressed this issue and some others in the rematch. ua-cam.com/video/IRGbZx5IooY/v-deo.html
When the batteries charge in 5 minutes and the range goes to 400 km i’l buy one.nice power for sure
And the weight is the same as a gas bike yea Ile bye one aswel lol of they get the weight down yet still have the same crazy power knocking a few kg of the battery technology will be the day we get 110hp 500cc bike at 125kg lol
@@jonathanoxlade4252 Maybe "Buy" a dictionary first yeah?
I have a RMZ 250 with a Cylinder Works big bore kit, stage 2 hot cam stainless steel valves and springs a custom yoshi exhaust and a vortex ignition (race tuned) im running 98octane gas and im putting out 45hp @wheel, I don't wan't to brag but i'd would murder that CR 250 worse than that Alta did. It definitively does not have 60hp, the HP figure you quoted for the Alta sounds right though.
I'm a tech for Honda I well aware of the situation. I wasn't trying to bust your balls man. Just noticed your numbers were way off!
Austin Songer All good man. I wish I could add in a comment during the video to correct that but it's too late. I don't want to spread misinformation, that's not my goal.
Thanks for watching man.
Didn't mention the fact you can buy 3-4 nice stroke 250's for the price of the alta.
Not really gas dirt bikes are expensive af
Ok last run top speed he kept going ... that means the CR250R is geared higher if he gears lower will get some extra torque and things will shift a bit ? What do you guys think ?
Eithe way these ALTA bikes are serious ... I watched the ALTA vs 450 and damn this electric bike kicks ass.
Battery powered vibrator
Frank Greco electric dirtbikes are so gay! 😂
Aren't all vibrators battery powered? Is yours hand-cranked?
It's a Prius man...
@@hjcg08 honestly
That cr sounds like it has a wicked exhaust leak. Exhaust leaks on two strokes rob tons of response.
2stroke everyday and all day 👍👍👍🏴😜✌️
I just got a 19 125sx but I would like an e bike. Maybe next summer.
I’m no pro rider but I have to say that I can ride that CR weight faster than him why is he letting off the gas to shift🤔🤔 Not fair
Pavestar1 my thoughts exactly put me on that cr250 and I guarantee the results will be different he is shifting early and letting off as soon as he starts to get on the pipe he shifts
Exactly the CR needs a rider mod and they need to test on pavement.
I’d be curious to see the riders switch bikes and giver er a go. That was a large man on the Honda lol
The future is now, old man
Unless it's raining
Too bad Alta are closing down. How will the current Alta owners get replacement parts?
Can’t beat the sound of that cr 250 tho
He was flying in the end lol
Exhaust is the first upgrade when I buy a bike ,I’d be lost with this thing,
Kevin Alt yea upgrades are more about suspension and protection on this thing. She’s got plenty of juice so no worries on that. I think you could change the sound by changing the chain maybe 😂😂😂🤔🤔🤔
@@ElectroBraap it definitely needs upgrades too compete with a two stroke power is good but it needs a motor switch too focus more on top speed try a rear wheel motor with brushless 8000w that should make it alot faster
@@JuanMartinez-dy5un motocross bikes are purpose built and engineered to do amazing feats. A rear hub motor adds tremendous unsprung mass to the rear suspension which would be catastrophic for real motocross riding.
Top speed is not of any importance beyond 60mph in this sport.
The Alta is flat out just the quicker bike with way more torque and a much broader power band than these old 2t bikes.
Was he even into the powerband? It's hard to tell though..
Rematch video Here. We swap bikes. ua-cam.com/video/IRGbZx5IooY/v-deo.html
How do electric dirt bike wheelie?
Moto XXX it’s a little bit different but ultimately it wheelies like any other bike once you get used to the power delivery. 👌 it pops the front up savagely quick in map 4.
Nah bro the clutch and shifting and the sound and smell of a real dirtbike is part of the fun
I wish alta was still making bikes
how much is one of dem bikes
Electric bike let off at 55-56mph. How fast is its top speed?
Brittany Russell 68
why does it sound like that cr isn't hitting band??
Sam Higgins because it isnt. He's short shifting so much the bike never reaches the power band. That CR would embarrass the electric bike if it had a better rider
2-stroke would be fun around the track the electric bike looks like it would get boring fast
Man id trade every 2 stroke ive ever had for an alta!
Cr 500?
Get tf out of dirt bikes
Bruh the sound range and top speed is better imma have too go with gas powered
Yeah, but the bike his opponent was racing was a 2001 but if you put it against a 2018 Yamaha yz250 2 stroke then that would be a different story or even against a 2018 honda crf250r
so..... here are my thoughts on this, to give the cr a proper chance you should have done this either the day after it rains or on the fire road off the juniper trail head where there is alot more traction for both bikes, i personally have a 01 cr250r fully built and that road is slick (case and point at 3:40) i know cause we ride the same park, the cr does one of two things if you weight bout a buck twenty like me the back tire is a leaf blower and there isnt much i can do bout it but if you are 150 plus she likes to dig. Before you say alta is the faster bike i think you should mention how stock each bike is, what tires are being run and sprocket set up as well, id aslo be curious to see some training hill drags, there are a few runs but im most curious about the middle two, i would aslo mention weight differences and do a test in each power mode the alta offers, great video though!
Devin Graves I just filmed the rematch video, it's coming soon. We did our best to address some of the things mentioned in the comments. Stay tuned & thanks for watching.
ElectroBraap I’ll be waiting for that rematch! My main hang up on the Alta is the lack of smoke lmao 😭🤣😂
That dude you have riding the CR looks pretty heavy. How about a normal size person at 160-170 lb
I’m not sure about the horsepower and torque of the electric I’ll ask my buddy he rides a Ktm electric. It kept overheating on the deep prep fluffy Motocross Track last Wednesday night (Austin Texas Dellvalley Motocross Park). we like to ride at night because it’s freaking hot here. Anyway it did great once the track packed down.
When are they going too add a couple of gears then the electric bike would kill the ice bike
LMAO this was awesome your voice is funny . that boy need milk
I'm pretty sure that sign you blurred out said speed limit 15
What's the difference in the weight of the bike and of the riders?
We did another video where we changed bikes and the results are identical.
@@ElectroBraap I meant what's the weight/hp/torque values of the bikes. that would be interesting to know.
What sort of upgrades can you get for the Alta Redshift MXR?
I want one of each I still have to make noise or the buzz is different 🤟
Damn did he short shift that CR.
how long does the battery last per charge?
McShaft it varies greatly depending on terrain and pace. I usually get about 2-3 hours wheels rolling time on the trails. 1.5 hours from 0% battery to fully recharge.
@@ElectroBraap That's not too bad, thanks for the reply!
@@ElectroBraap ,THX for this charging info, great video.
If the gearing was lowered on the CR to the same top speed as the electric bike it may be as quick..
You may be faster but he sure sounds better!!!
...I'm really shocked I thought these e bikes were on par with a 125 not a 250. I would be interested in seeing it up against a 450. They push around 52hp, the cr250r makes I the 40s not 60. But great video.
ETX MX wrong my cr125 makes 40 hp and the 250 does make 60 hp
The map 2 and 3 is supposedly similar power level to a 250cc, mode 1 is like a 125cc
Mtb Ridingog an 01 cr250 came with 45hp
MrMotocrossgeek my cr125 has some upgrades to it the stock 250r has around 50-55 ish hp it depends on the gearing also when you put it on a dino I have stock gearing on my 125 and it pushes out 40 horses
2008 KTM 250 two-stroke equals 52 hp 2018 450 KTMSXF makes about 64 hp and a lot of torque.
Just saying it would be a better race if he wouldn’t short shift and would sit back a little bit on the sit for more traction in that gravel
All you guys who want sound... Electric bike - add a speaker and synthesizer and you can make it sound like anything. A two stroke, a four stroke, a little kid making motor noises, or Beethoven's 5th!
The blurred image @4:20 is a speed limit sign of 15mph... Luckily these guys were only going 10mph 😉
Did he mention the weight difference of the riders?
john henriques I didn't but in our rematch video we switch bikes. 👌🖒 ua-cam.com/video/IRGbZx5IooY/v-deo.html
I just cant like the electric bikes :( dirtbikes were meant to be loud
James Housser
Dirt bikes are meant to have steam engines
I do miss the characteristics of an engine from time to time. In truth I miss it for the novelty and fun factor, no other reason. I DO have gas bikes and I think you will see them soon in future videos. The Alta is better in almost everyway and I love everything about it. But it is still fun to rip a gas engine every now and again.
I believe the power delivery would be insane on the alta also it opens up more riding areas which is awesome. I just hope gas bikes dont disappear.
James Housser
Horse racing is still existent
Electric bikes are in their infancy. Actually, it is currently pretty easy to make electric motors that will outperform Gas engines. The weakest part of the link is still batteries. Already, they are good enough to make the Alta a competitive bike but they are getting better every year (about a 5 to 8% improvement every year).
At this rate, I think that within 15 years at the latest, most if not all new bikes will be electric. But people will still ride classic GAS bikes for the thrill of it similarly to how people still drive classic cars nowadays.
Good luck in the corners with no engine brake, or clutch. I know I always ride my CR in a straight line because that's why we bought them?
First of all there is an engine brake. Second of all you don't need a clutch when you have instant power on demand. I believe that Alta tested this bike with a clutch and riders were faster around a track without it. Third of all I happen to ride 2 strokes when I'm not riding my Alta so don't get the wrong impression. Fourth of all the point of the video isn't to say the altas better, just to show that the an electric bike can be faster than people think.
I still love my gas bikes. I'm a big fan of Two Strokes and I won't be selling mine anytime soon.
Also congratulations on being the first person to point out that drag races don't mean anything when it comes to Motocross. I honestly can't believe it's taken this long for someone to say that.
Why he down shift with 2 stroke
Kinda seemed like the 250 wasnt running all that prime.
You left that 2 stroke for dead, am surprised
Let’s compare it to an old CR500 and see how it goes.
The dude in the 250 seemed kinda heavy but none the less, it seems like he had no idea. If you start a race on cement, loose gravel road like that you lean fwd, start on second gear and rev the shit out of it before the gate drop. You don’t need first gear from a dig with a 250r. Anybody that has race a 250r will agree on that
I think the person who counts has the advantage..although I still say the CR is at a disadvantage..
