I took the east vista point trail in castle crags state park. I was on a road trip and just needed a bathroom break, a picnic spot and to stretch my legs. This fit the bill perfectly. It’s a beautiful trail up to a nice view of the castle crags. Also had a good view of Shasta from there as well. It’s a very easy trail for almost any level. Only about a quarter mile long. Elevation gain is like 33 feet. Nice dirt trail. Well maintained
I had the pleasure of climbing Mt. Shasta back in 1996 and I can say it was definitely the highlight of my climbing career. We climbed it June of 96 and had 20ft of snow just at the parking lot at Bunny Flat and it did not get any easier from there, even though it was June there was still a real avalanche danger especially on the accent to Helen Lake at 10,000ft in avalanche Gulch. I remember the climb up the Red Banks during the early morning as both super cold and super thrilling, one wrong step and it's a long fall back to base camp. When you do make the summit the view from the top is one of the best in California because your over 14,000ft with no other real mountain around you. I have climbed other peaks with awesome views like Mt. Whitney, Mt. Dana, Mt. Hoffman, Mt. Tallac but Shasta definitely had the best views. I am not sure if the Trinity Alps are in Siskiyou County but it's in the same area bur that's also a incredible beautiful place to hike and backpack. I recommend the hike to L lake in the Canyon Creek area because it's one of the most beautiful lakes I have ever seen and I have backpacked a lot of the Sierra Nevada and Big Sur and the Trinity Alps are spectacular.
Thanks for the comment and for sharing your experience! I agree, the views up on Shasta are stunning! I want to explore more of the Trinity Alps but I haven't had a chance to do much there yet myself.
@@californiathroughmylens thanks Josh! I definitely would recommend the Trinity Alps because they are like a "mini Sierra Nevada" with granite peaks , lush forests and even a small glacier on Thompson Peak which is the only glacier in the entire California coastal ranges( there are glaciers in Olympic range but that's up north). I highly recommend the Canyon Creek area, believe me you will get your mind blown🤯 but in a good way😆
Check out Burstarse falls in Castle Crags, it’s my favorite hike after Castle Dome. I’ve been up to the dome a dozen or so times, and it never gets old. You can camp at the base and watch the sunrise from behind the mountain if you’re up early enough. Super cool to see you highlight my county.
I just did a road trip from Ventura County to Silverton, Oregon. Took the 5 all the way and finally saw the Northern part of California. The Mount Shasta area is awesome. I stopped in Redding to see and film the Sundial Bridge that you pointed out on your video of your trip from Portland to L.A. Northern California looks way different then Southern California. Awesome as always Josh!
I should have done the Spring Hill trail when I was passing through a few years ago. Had no idea, but the views of Mount Shasta from the interstate were still pretty epic!
lava bed is excellent make sure your gear hasn't been to other caves, something about disease for bats back when we went they did a full check and clean.
We've done several of these trails and love exploring this area. McCloud River Falls is one of our favorite places to have a picnic and just get out for an easy stroll in nature. Also hiked the dome trail at Castle Crags (that's definitely more strenuous). Another one to check out is the hike from Castle Lake to Heart Lake. It's not too long, but it's all uphill to Heart Lake. The payoff, however, is a spectacular view of Mt. Shasta. I highly recommend!
Those ultra mountains on the west coast are a sight to behold on TV, I would probably bawl like a child at viewing from the top of Mt. Shasta.
I know what you mean, it is crazy to see some of the views in this area!
You always do a great job. I always look for your videos when researching an area in California.
All great recommendations. I'd love to hike Shasta
Thanks for the comment. Shasta is a beast for sure but it is a great hike
amazing video and beautiful places to go thank you for the great ideas 🙏💯❤️
Amazing landscape! Your travel videos are unmatched!
Many thanks, very kind of you to say!
I live in a Cornfield in Indiana.. This is amazing.
It is a huge change from the midwest for sure!
@@californiathroughmylens Yes Sir.
Castle Crags State Park is one of my favorite spots to camp and hike when I’m traveling between Oregon and SoCal

That is a great suggestion and I am glad you had a clear day to see Shasta!
Adding these to my California bucket list of places I still need to explore!

Wow that would be awesome to see the sunrise up there. I will check out that waterfall next time!

So glad the road trip video was helpful! I love the Northern California portion of Highway 5 near Oregon, it is pretty amazing!

Heck yes, the interstate views are incredible as well!

One day I'll get around to doing these hikes
So many hikes to do in California for sure
Great recommendations!!
Thank you!!
GOOD AFTERNOON EVERYONE...
Bots of great fun
So many amazing trails in the area for sure
Great video! Hard to understand how we are in a severe drought with all
of this flowing water!
I know what you mean but Shasta Lake which is right below this area was really low when I drove up this time. Lowest I have ever seen for sure
Have you considered listing your hiking experiences on AirBNB? I would not mind paying for a guide like you.
Anyways. Awesome video like always!
Maybe one day! Thanks for the suggestion!
Great idea! Surely people would reserve several months in advance, to go hiking with Josh!
Marble mountains

Absolutely beautiful spots! Thanks for the info!>Sue
