I made a baby quilt based on another tutorial you did using this technique. After the blocks were assembled , cut and reassembled I decided to appliqué white circles of three different sizes all over the quilt. I named it "bubbles". It came out so cute. Thank you for the tutorial!
This kind of no pattern quilts are my favorite and so much fun to make! I am going to mix charm and mini charm packs! The hardest part for me is not over thinking the initial layout of fabrics. I have spent hours in the past trying to get things perfect, and never being happy with the result. I have made progress on letting go and not over thinking. Fun Fun Fun!
What I have done is I enlisted my husband or a son take a gander and how it is finally randomized. I trust his decisions. He has a good sense of not overthinking.
As a beginner you make the process less daunting by your explanations and filming. This is going to definitely be the second quilt we will make. Thankyou so much. ❤
Please show us somewhere how you starch your little charm packs. I’ve seen how you do larger pieces of fabric but what do you place them on to starch being they’re so small and so many so they can dry overnight? I love this way of making a quilt of any kind. Thanks Kimberly! ❤❤❤
It's the same process as any other fabric on a towel to starch then on a drying rack to dry- she has shown how she starches jelly roll strips too. Everyone starches how they starch. Light, Medium and Heavy. Kimberly does Kimberly and do what I am doing how I feel like for the day -which can vary from medium to medium heavy from day to day 😉😊
If you used the same strong colour in the middle of each of the 25 square you could have a 2 little matching square in the centre of each block. Just like the disappearing 9 patch.
For those who dip fabric in starch, I dipped my precuts, put them in a salad spinner (folded nicely) and they came out wonderful. I emptied the spinner a couple times during each "load" and then hung them on the rack. I think very little ironing will be needed.
I just made this quilt! I had very similar fabric and was looking for something more fun than just a square patch quilt. It turned out so cute!!! I literally followed every step of this tutorial to get great results. It was for my daughter who wanted a bigger quilt so I just made more 5 square blocks. Thank you Kimberly for your awesome tutorials. I love how you explain everything and are so careful to be precise. I really appreciate your attention to every detail. I also like that you go a little slower on each step so we can stay with you. Thank you soooo much! On to my next quilt! xo
I love everything about this video! The time-lapse, the music played during it, and how you explain what’s going on. I have a bucket of 5” charms scraps that will be great for this, and like you said, as long as you don’t overthink the placement of them it’s a simple one! Thank you for sharing this and can’t wait to get one done! 🧵 Happy quilting!
I absolutely love these ladies. I am only about two years old in my quilting journey. But these ladies have encouraged me in so many ways. I'm still so very new. And this block in particular is fabulous. Great video ladies!!!
Thank you for this cute quilt idea. I'm new to quilting and seeing all the different ways you can use charm packs, layer cakes mini charms are very helpful. You're a very good teacher. Have a good day.
Hello! I'm still trying to catch up watching all the videos that posted while I was away visiting the grandkids. I hope you have a wonderful week ahead! Thank you for posting and sharing your talent.
P.S. I am anxious to hear your experience at a quilt retreat. And your sleeves on your blouse are super cute so I bet the whole ensemble looks terrific. 🥰❤️ Chris
I LOVE it!! I make stash busting charm packs with my Accuquilt. This will definitely be a go to pattern for quick baby quilts and other gifts. Thank you!
I got a call from my girlfriend today, she stated "I just don't know what to do what all my mom's clothing (she made them all) and I just can't part with them, but I don't wear them." I suggested making a memory quilt out of her mom's favorite dresses and vests. The first pattern I thought of was this one you demonstrated yesterday, it will be easy to cut-up the fabric into 5" squares and make this simple, yet beautiful quilt for her. Since she has two daughters, I am going to make two lap quilts (one for each of her daughter's). Thank you for the inspiration for this beautiful quilt pattern. By the way, I did view the other video where you show the 10" squares, but I really like the patchwork look of the 5" squares in this specific pattern. You are right, the 10" squares would be perfect for the Kaffe design fabric.
Thanks, Kimberly! Love the simplicity and care-free attitude while doing this! I stress over every little seam whether it is in the cutting, matching up, or piecing... Needed to see this, and hear your inspiring comments. It is fun to watch and study over your videos. Shopping at your website is fun. Thanks for making quilts less stressful to make and easier to accept the "boo boos" in my sewing room!
I love the precision you teach. It has made my quilting journey so much easier that I learned cutting and pressing from watching your videos. I, too, am super picky about colors and how they are laid out. Unregulated scrappy is just not in my wheelhouse, LOL. Thank you for sharing your talent!
Also a great pieced backing of a complicated quilt using up your scraps and leftover fabric! I just finished a VERY complicated quilt so I’m using French General panels for the coordinating lap quilt. This would make a great backing for the lap quilt using my leftovers! Yay, I love it! I think I’ll just do the squares and not cut it up.
This is so awesome. It’s great to see another Kimberly tutorial video! I love this concept because you can start with any size square and do the same thing. This would be a great scrap buster or for those times when you would like to give someone a quilt but don’t have that much time. Thanks a bunch!!
Another inspiring video! Thank you, Kimberly! I love how you talk us through your thoughts along the process. I learn so much from you. This cute quilt inspires me to use a Laurie Holt layer cake I have. I think it would look nice with her vintage fabric!
This is perfect! I just finished a top that had a lot of HSTs and snowballed corners. I have some charm packs I’ve been wanting to use as well. Thanks FQS!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS! I'm going to make this tomorrow afternoon! I adore these pre-cut challenges, they are so so much fun to watch and then stitch up from my stash.
I made one of these quilts using Cottage Linen Closet fabric by Brenda Riddle and it turned out so beautiful I decided to keep it for myself instead of giving it to a friend. I will make another one for the friend😍. Thanks Kimberly for this fun pattern!
Absolutely love this video. I've always messed up on sewing blocks and this would make my sewing them all together would make it a lot easier! Thank you Kimberly and staff you do amazing ing job and you keep us all motivated 💕🥰
This is such a great quilt that is easy but looks more complicated than it really is. I definitely want to make this at some point. Thanks for the tutorial FQS and Kimberly!
Thank You Ms Kimberly, How inspiring, I would really love to try this as a starter quilt; as I have not sewn for over thirty years. I'll let you know how it turns out and how long it takes start to finish.
I love the time-lapse idea...especially with a long project. Thank you for doing this. This is a great project for a beginner (hey that's me)! I think I will try this project first instead of your Cherry Charm Pack quilt. I feel terrible wasting fabric. I didn't think I had a 4.5 sq ruler but, I do. I've never used it because it is still wrapped in plastic lol. I really didn't want to starch them because there are so many. But, when you said that starching prevents the fabric from moving/slipping while sewing...well, that can be a big help. I make sure to use all my precuts in my projects. They are very expensive. I don't want to throw away good money and someone else's hard working in making and/or designing those fabrics. Remember, just because the project maker doesn't like the color doesn't mean someone else won't enjoy that color! I will be using Gingham Gardens because I have 3 charm packs on hand. I'm very excited to start this project. THANK YOU KIMBERLY!
Great choice of fabrics. Beautiful! Kimberly you do sew that fast. Lol. Thanks for another great quilt idea and suggesting using a layer cake instead of charms. Now another quilt added to my projects.
Whoa, can’t wait to make this with all the charm packs I’ve collected! I really struggle with scrappiness too, Kimberly, my brain just won’t let me do it! 🙄
Thank you so much for all your videos. You are very generous in sharing your time and knowledge. It has been a tremendous help for a new quilter like myself.
If you're mixing charm packs from different designers/makers it makes a lot of sense to go ahead and cut them down to 4.5" bc inevitably one is just slightly bigger than the other charm pack...ask me how I know🙄😁 plus it gets rid of those annoying pinked edges and gives more accuracy when sewing. Kimberly was right on this one.
I appreciate how you videoed each of the blocks not just once. I’m part of a FB private group and we exchange 5 inch squares each month. I’m sharing this with my group, it’s perfect for us. Thanks so much!
The environment and I thank you to anyone who uses NON AEROSOL CANS for starching. Please reconsider switching to a spray bottle if you use can aerosol spray. 🙏🏻
I use old fashioned starch where you mix it yourself. Put it in a clean spray bottle and spray away. Absolutely agree starch makes a better finished project for me.
@@lassitterfamilygospelandbl7339 I make my own starch too, though I do have spray starch in aeorosol can. I also like using StaFlo at 50:50 ratio. It has the advantage of being able to change ratios based on needs; it stays suspended better than homemade and does not go "off". Though sometimes I put a little bit of alcohol in it for help with that...not enough to harm fabric. A good spray bottle delivers a fine, even mist and makes short work.
love the idea but laughing becuase you DID pay attention to what was next to what lololol love it fast and easy baby quilts!!! and I am seeing myself cutting squares with my accuquilt and using up scraps! thanks for the ideas!
I have tons of 5 inch squares from a bunch of swaps back in the 90's, this would be perfect for them and at 2 hours, woo! Guess what the fam is getting for Christmas, lol.
Super cute quilt. You could do a quilt as you go with this one, or cut it down more maybe and turn it to make more variations. Or, you could add two more rows to make seven to increase the size too. You’ve taught me sew much Kimberly! I started watching you in 2017 and have totally enjoyed all your videos. My son even quilts with me sometimes. He’ll ask what is Kimberly showing you today? Thank you so much!
I made two of these over the weekend. One reds and brown and one turquoise blues with dark grey's almost black. They came out beautifully! I quilted the blue one and I think the red one will be for foot of the bed decore.
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you create this amazing and stunning quilt topper and it’s really really stunning too. I really really love ❤️ this, and I really really appreciate your time and effort to bring this to us all. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
Quilting + True Crime = Perfect Combo on a rainy day. 😊
This quilt reminds me of Holly Hobby for some reason. When I was little I Loved Holly Hobby. Thanks FQS for sharing this happy quilt. 💗

I know we’re supposed to be paying attention to the sewing, and I am. But I have to say how much I love those smocked cuffs. Your top is beautiful!
Fun quick quilt. I would keep the full 5" square. Thanks for showing us the whole
process Kimberly!
If you used the same strong colour in the middle of each of the 25 square you could have a 2 little matching square in the centre of each block. Just like the disappearing 9 patch.
Good idea
i thought similarly as I watched: put the little squares all in the center. I'm a novice so it's good to find I wasn't out in left field.🙄
My take exactly. I would also try mixing quarters between blocks. Might even out some of the colors. Great go to for using scraps for charity quilts.
This would be a perfect charity quilt especially for new sewers.
Thank you Kimberly for another great pattern.
For those who dip fabric in starch, I dipped my precuts, put them in a salad spinner (folded nicely) and they came out wonderful. I emptied the spinner a couple times during each "load" and then hung them on the rack. I think very little ironing will be needed.

blacks, greys and neutrals are beautiful, they are a very basic and neutral color palette that blends well with other colors.

Such a fun relaxing quilt /table top to make. Best of all a quick way to use some of the fun charm back /layercakes I already have. Thank you
Thank you Kimberly! It was soooo nice to watch or if your video's again. You are amazing! Why is America so far? Don't ever stop being a "teacher" 😊
This was a fun video! Thanks! Love watching Kimberly make anything, but this quilt is a keeper for me. 🤗
Another great video Kimberly. So beginner friendly and doesn’t require much thinking 😊. Totally enjoyed watching.
I hate wasting fabric, so I’d keep the 5” squares, but this is a great idea. Thank you
If you listen at the very beginning, she tells the reason she cuts them. Very informative.
Thank you for sharing this with me. I'm always looking for new ways to sew my squares and be creative about it. Each quilt has its own character
I love this idea! Looks like a giant version of a tossed 9-patch!!

Thank you for this really neat pattern. I needed an idea fora baby quilt so I'm making this with Kona pastels. It is such a unique pattern!

So pretty! Perfect time to use the auto-life foot option on your machine. Also, use a big wool mat so you don't have to move the fabric so much too.
