Thankyou. Quoted $400 to change 4 washers by a plumber. This way it will only cost me the tools and washers.. I am so grateful for this basic step by step video and as a single person it has helped my bank account. Once again Thankyou
Thank you for posting this. I followed your video and was able to replace my shower tap today. Saves me having to wait for the plumber and landlord, and in the process lost time at work.
The tool used is called a Tube Socket Spanner. Available in a range of shapes and sizes from local Hardware Stores. Common shapes are Hex or Square. Typical sizes for taps range from 15mm to 25mm. Most modern taps use Metric sizes. Older taps used Imperial sizes.Always confirm the correct shape and size before using the tool otherwise fittings can be damaged. Always rotate the fitting in the correct direction. Normally, Anti-clockwise to loosen. Clockwise to tighten. But always check. Never apply too much force. If the fitting seems to be very tight or stuck, apply a rust remover like WD-40 or CRC, wait a few hours, and then try to remove it. If it won't budge, try using a larger lever with the tool. If it still won't move call a Professional. A broken fitting in-situ is very difficult to fix and will usually require a plumber to repair the damage.
Thank you for sharing. I thought I'd have to call someone out on the weekend when my tap popped off and fell into the sink last night, but this video made it so easy to fix myself. I would've been clueless without it. Much appreciated!
Great video, straight into it with no silly music. I suggest using a high quality valve instead of the cheap plastic one you get in the tap kit (something from Fix-a-tap is a good place to start). It will last much longer and provide a nice "soft" feel when opening and turning the tap off. Cheers!
Pe🎉fact. A no bullshit, no shitty music, no lame commentary how-to video … cheers. Helped me out immensely. I’ve one question though … Use Plumbers tape too?
What this changing of washer do to my shawer? Please tell me if this also work for water running after turning off the shower , its unstoppable.... What to do
Yes, replacing the washer is the first thing to try if your shower drips after turning it off, or if you have to turn the tap off very tight to stop water from dripping.
It's a pressed steel box wrench or tubular wrench, the name varies depending on what part of the world you live in. A cheap version of a tube socket or deep socket. The holes negate the need for the square drive on a ratchet or similar.
It is called a tube or box spanner in Australia. The size for my laundry tub taps was 19mm from memory. They are also useful for jobs such as removing kitchen mixer taps, around 12mm.
I've been looking around because I need one and found something very similar and it is called Tap Spanner... found it on the Bunnings website. Hope this helps.
Not saying that this is not good video, but as someone coming here who has never done this before a list of tools used would be nice, bc it's not just washers I'll have to go and buy from bunnings
No talking no intro ,just got to the point and very helpfull cheers mate
Thank you for not playing loud annoying music in the background!
Ya that music bugs me too. LOL 😆
Thanks so much for this, I’m a single mum and was able to fix both my shower taps without calling a plumber. God bless.❤️
Plumbers must hate this video!
Same here I’m flat broke and it’s Easter weekend so I’m gonna try it myself 😊
Single lady here but I don't know the name of the tools used😢😢😢

Dumbest design. Can’t tighten with typical household tools.
