    -------------------------------------Key Takeaways---------------------------------
01:22 What is Adrenal Fatigue? The concept of adrenal fatigue is becoming outdated. The adrenals don’t give out. The ovaries give out and shut down, but not the adrenals. The hypothalamus tells the pituitary what to do. The pituitary tells the adrenals what to do. In response, the adrenals make cortisol. It is a miscommunication issue. Most often it is from the hypothalamus and the pituitary, not the adrenal.
03:10 What Causes this Miscommunication? Long term chronic stress is a big influence. . Inflammation and obesity play a big role. Adipose tissue creates its own inflammatory cytokines and upregulates the enzyme 11 beta HSD (11 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase).
04:50 Cortisone and Cortisol: The adrenals make cortisol first.
06:66 Cortisol from Fat: Fat tissue makes cortisol, causing it to be amplified in the fat tissue, stimulating the growth of more fat tissue.
07:07 Circadian Rhythm: If fat cells are inflamed and there is excess adipose tissue, they may be creating and releasing cortisol all the time. Anxiety is common when this happens. The norepinephrine to epinephrine (adrenaline) conversion happens in the adrenals. It is driven by cortisol. Those of us with lots of cortisol, report being anxious, jittery, can’t sleep, stressed and tired-but-wired.
08:52 Circadian Rhythm Imbalance: Blue light from cell phones at night are a big part of circadian rhythm imbalance. Your brain says that it is daytime. We wonder why we can’t sleep, can’t heal, can’t recover from our workout, cannot lose weight, or why we have anxiety.
11:25 The Liver and Cortisol/Cortisone Production: When the adrenals make cortisol, the kidneys can deactivate it into cortisone and then flush it out of the body. As it is circulating and the body converts it to cortisone, the liver can reactivate it back to cortisol just like fat cells do. In a healthy person, there is an ebb and flow. Certain glands turn it off. Certain glands turn it on.
12:37 Liver Support: Dr. Jones recommends prophylactically taking Milk Thistle and choline, as well as drinking detox tea. Every little bit helps.
13:28 Caffeine and Adrenals: When we depend upon caffeine to get going, and we consume a lot of caffeine, we are whipping a dead horse.

It's like calling a car with engine problems "wheel movement fatigue" instead of diagnosing what is going on inside the engine. Sheesh people who read a title and comment without watching the video. But I've found trying to change language people use is quite often like this.

No, information given was bologna. Saying that the adrenal's don't get fatigued is fictitious. It's like a man suffering from low testosterone. Can it be because of a signaling issue from the Pituitary? Yes it can be. It can also be because the Testes aren't functioning properly. The adrenals themselves can be damaged, or "fatigued" over time from being overly stimulated at which point it's not a signaling issue but the adrenals themselves are not working properly.

Adrenal fatigue absolutely exists. I was crushing coffee, energy drinks, and taking preworkout to get through my days and workouts. I was over training and under sleeping. Finally my good friend and personal trainer told me it had to stop and that I needed to heal my body. The withdrawals sucked. But oh my gosh do I see life so much more clear. I jump awake ready to take on the day. My energy is a steady state ALL DAY and I get amazing sleep. My caffeine intake is an all time low. 1 cup a day and it is my bullet proof coffee. I think stopping all the stimulants plus starting keto was the best decision I have ever made. Thanks to my friend for giving me the tough love talk as well. By the way I love your videos!

i nearly died from it.. I saw 8 doctors (including an endocrinologist) before i found a naturopath doctor who prescribed me Cortef... I don't object to the idea that Adrenal Fatigue is a symptom. But I do find the title of this video can be a little scary/thoughtless to those of us who walked with the grim reaper for years. Any disease will have a cause, and it makes sense that lots of stress will affect the adrenals. For persons with PTSD, the adrenals are increasingly affected. If you want to consider Adrenal Fatigue a symptom rather than a disease, i can see that logic. But it is VERY real to those of us who have to deal with it.

Yes totally. I burnt out completely due to an overload of work, study, volunteering and many other factors. It has been nearly 2 years and I still suffer from adrenal fatigue! I make 6 months progress and start to feel 'normal'. It only takes a stressful event or two to set my recovery back months. This is hands down one of the hardest things I have ever dealt with and I have suffered PTSD in the past. The irritability is the worst symptom as it effects social interactions. I find that it is keenly linked to the release of adrenaline as the body struggles to keep going. My full time work is very physical and sadly I am halfway through a biomedical degree which I study in my spare time. I'm trying to hang on but it makes recovery very difficult. Any doubt it exists?? Walk a mile in my shoes! :)

I think the title of the video shows the host didn't understand what was said. And the title is very harmful since so many people dealing with this complex condition are often denied medical leave, or even just basic familial support, because they have been told that adrenal fatigue does not exist.

    • @AttackHak

i love it when people tell me my condition was not real... so i weighed 114 lbs, had horrific acne, and was developing freckles and black spots... hair falling out, and wrinkles appeared, fainting when i stood up too fast, when i thought i had a serious brain disorder because i forgot where i was???.... this wasn't real?? Because this condition isn't considered "real"---when i went to the doc or emergency room (with a bp of 50/80) they tested me for drugs.. and released me when they found nothing.... and that wasn't real.. oi.. yes, my appetite for ignorance has truly plummeted. You are so very right the title could be changed.

+ ben gates ** may i suggest looking into self-medicating with low doses of psylocibin (the key natural chemical found in psychedelic mushrooms) ? I know it's fringe science as of now but several medical schools/institutions have had positive results in their trials where they are studying this chemical as a possible "cure" to PTSD or depression.. etc. And many people, impossible to say how many, have found peace from debilitating mental or neurological conditions as far back as ancient times; this fungus or plant has been around as long as the human species itself. I know it sounds strange to look at these plants as a medicine, but honestly its worth reading up on; who knows, it may be the cure for you !

      Hi Jim Colter,
Thanks for you feedback, but if I named the video, "Rethinking Classical Adrenal Fatigue and Exploring Hidden Triggers of Hypothalamic Pituitary Adrenal Axis Dysregulation" do you think anyone would even know about the video?
The answer is: no, it would scare people away.
Adrenal fatigue has been way too over simplified and buying into that myopic model (that the adrenals suddenly give out and are the sole players) gives Functional Medicine an unscientific stigma, which doesn't serve anyone.
Having an open mind and looking at things differently is key to progress.
      Thanks,
      Mike

Not everyone with adrenal fatigue is overweight. As with MOST health issues, there is more than only ONE causal pathway. I think this individual definitely has a point and may be onto something.
I have studied adrenal fatigue for years. She can call it whatever she wants. The adrenal glands are still exhausted and unbalanced. The longer the condition exists without efforts to support adrenal glands. "Adrenal Fatigue" is a misnomer - if you truly have what is called "adrenal fatigue" THE ENTIRE ENDOCRINE SYSTEM is involved - not just the adrenal glands. She has good points, but definitely not the ONLY points, and suggestions, and, in my opinion, she has a partial understanding of some of the aspects of Adrenal Fatigue (which IS REAL), but she is doing harm to the process of identifying, treating and the acceptance of Adrenal Fatigue in Western medicine.
So what are people with asthma supposed to do? Die? THEY DO NOT HAVE A CHOICE, but to use their medication.
And NO ONE is taking 20mg of prednisone daily to treat Asthma. The use of prednisone has greatly decreased over recent years.

It still seems like she basically believes primary Addison’s Disease doesn’t exist. I don’t believe that. Any one organ/gland/system/etc can break by itself. I don’t understand how it couldn’t. But maybe I’m wrong as I’m no medical doctor most of who deny primary adrenal insufficiency is anything outside of full blown Addison’s.

If you think you might have adrenal fatigue and you find a doctor who says it doesn't exist, just leave that doctor and never go back. Adrenal fatigue is a real thing and often found in people with Hashimoto's thyroiditis...which, by the way, is another disease that doctors often simply don't know anything about. If you think you have adrenal fatigue, try the adrenal cocktail: 1/4 teaspoon pink himalayan salt, 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar, 1/4 teaspoon acerola powder mixed up in a tall glass of water.

So here's my two cents on this video. As a nurse who was also diagnosed with severe Adrenal Fatigue (I was bedridden for weeks and sleeping 20/24 hours everyday) I'm very confident with the grasp I have with this condition.
There has always been a problem with the actual term "Adrenal Fatigue", it describes very well what patients experience the most (fatigue) and the low cortisol output given out by the adrenal glands.
Even in allopathic medicine, most diagnoses describe a symptom ie. Arthritis (inflammation of the joints) but not the cause; and there is usually more than one cause...
Allopathic medicine also uses the word "Syndrome" to describe a cluster of symptoms for which there are several causes.
HPA axis dysregulation is a more appropriate term but still it does not explains the complex causes and the myriad of symptoms associated. It also doesn't mention the lack of parasympathetic nervous system tone and severe lack of nutrients at a cellular level.
    Hope this helps a bit

I have been on a long journey to recover my health which has taken nearly 20 years but i can now say I feel better than ever! (including pre-accutane) Please be very careful to tell people that they are permanently damaged as this may cause some accutane sufferers to give up hope as well as create anxiety (I read some pretty depressing stuff on the internet when i was struggling and it definitely did not help). My belly swells up for no reason. I am doing well financially, so no stress there, I am just miserable & this explains it. I'm doing everything right, including healthy diet, no processed food, no medications at all, I eat salads, veggies, I exercise even when I'm tired...taking some probiotics, trying to do everything organic & natural. I'm not giving up, I'll keep going & hopefully some day I'll be well again.

From Adrenal Fatigue :" ..the phrase Adrenal Fatigue wasn’t actually coined until 1998, when a chiropractor and naturopath named Dr. James Wilson began to recognize similar symptoms across a set of run-down, fatigued patients. Until that point it was known as hypoadrenia, sub-clinical hypoadrenia, non-Addison’s hypoadrenia, adrenal neurasthenia, adrenal apathy and several other names.." It's a term to describe a bundle of symptoms, where it could have different causes. It's like fever, when the red light flashes, taking Tylenol may lower the fever, but will never cure the cause, It could remit itself, or lessen after the real cause is treated, or it could get worse if we stress our bodies unnecessarily ( too much work, too much coffee, too much exercises, too little sleep). Just treat our bodies kindly and lovingly, never in excess. Thanks for posting.

We're not saying people don't have 'adrenal dysfunction doesn't exist, but it's slightly more complicated than 'the adrenals just give out.'
There are many feedback mechanisms in the periphery that regulate adrenal function--and that's the whole point of this interview.
      Thanks,

If ultimately she's saying adrenal fatigue is real, why make an extreme claim that adrenals don't shut down. Technically it can stop producing adequate cortisol which is a life threatening issue. I understood this, but not the point she was trying to make with that analogy, or at least the relevance. Maybe she could have worded it differently? This is what has so many people bothered, I think. This was great content and should have been presented better as she was a little all over the place. Unsure if she was very effective in relaying what she intended to everyone that should have benefited. This should not have been an overly cerebral discussion when trying to help the average person understand what's going on with a concern that affects so many people. The info was not easily digestible. I'd like to see her come back, but maybe have a discussion where she follows each point and discusses them thoroughly without flopping here and there too and fro. She mentioned mind racing? She really sounded at one point like she was just regurgitating a ton of information without making sense. She spoke way too fast and said a lot of excess stuff just to make a very small point that ultimately got lost in all the verbal clutter. Unfortunately people who speak too fast on complicated topics without slowing down and making solid points, lose my attention. I generally enjoy your interviews, but this was hard to follow. You did great by the way. You always speak clearly and thoughtfully, but she didn't match your pace, and as such was hard to listen to.

I have watched the first 12 minutes and I completely agree. For years I stayed up late and my circadian rhythm got out of wack and I got very sick for a long time. So I slowly changed my going to bed and my getting up time and I feel so much better. Go to bed before 10:00 pm. Get up at the latest by 6:00 am. It is healthy. It is good for us. Why do we ignore what we need?

She says the adrenal gland doesn't give out but you are tired because of the bodies miscommunication. Two things wrong with that and that's that she admitted people do get tired so there is severe fatigue and that the adrenals do have to do with the fatigue because they are burned out. so she is wrong and because the cortisol is overproduced and the body is weak because of this because if stress was reduced and thyroid was functioning well cortisol levels would go down the body would produce adrenaline again and have more energy from the adrenals that would be working again.

The idea with this video is stated to be the promotion of the idea that adrenal fatigue may be fake. But they keep talking about adrenal fatigue and its symptoms and specifically about the adrenals and not the pituitary as promoted for being one of the two things that could be wrong. It was a very difficult discussion to follow! Statements are made but explanations are most of the time not adequate for the statement.

I had been tired for years and years. I spent a lot of time on the couch crashing after work. I worked 7 days a week, , 14 hrs a days since I was self employed. I wanted to take a break for a long time but I couldn’t do it financially. I started keto IF 18 months ago, and haven’t been working since Jan 1 2019. I am 53 woman , 110 lbs ( my normal weight) , 5”4. I can finally breathe and take care of myself. I started taking adaptogens 2 months ago along with cold showers , because I was still tired. My energy pic was a 5 pm for years. I have no illness and my metabolic blood work in very good. Since I’ve started the adaptogens I feel better. This what I take:
Morning: 1 tsp of Ashwagandha +1 tsp of maca ginseng mix in a glass of water, along with 500 mg of rodhiolla
Evening: I take one tablet 1075 mg of blend of Ashwagandha, Eleuthero, astragalus codonopsis. I also take mushrooms tea or coffee mix during the day when needed( Four Sigmatic or Purica brands) huge improvement, physically and mentally.

This is fascinating for me because I'm struggling to find out what my symptoms mean. I'm working with a chiropractor who does a lot of supplements. I've been tested and my abnormalities are elevated DHEA and incredibly low insulin. My pegesterone is low (29) as well.
I've discovered that nightshades are a major trigger and gluten so diet change is helping.
Also last time I was muscle tested my kidneys and liver were majorly unhappy. Even after the diet changed.
BUT my major symptoms are moodiness, anger, weepiness, low libido, inability to lose weight and tiredness. Irregular periods. (I'm 18months post partum)
I don't have insomnia or hair lose.
My goal is to get out of the depression symptoms and get my pegesterone into a healthy level so I can sustain a pregnancy without pegesterone shots. I had a preemie for my first child and then they insisted for the shots for my second child. It was DISASTROUS. Worse mental and physical reactions to them. Crying, anxiety, exhuastion.

I also just had a cyst that was a week of pain and bloating that just burst and wonder if that's connected.
The supplements to fortify my adrenal glands were seemingly helping SO much and I felt myself for the first time in over a year. But this past few weeks I've been pushed back and I can't figure out why they aren't working still.
I'm considering finding a nutrapath who would be more knowledgeable about pregnancy because I feel like that's a huge key.
Having two boys under four I don't have the time to let this ride it out. I can't just retreat or rest it out. And I also can't be an angry sad mom for them. They and my husband deserve the me who loved life.
I'm sorry this is so extensive. Today hit hard and I'm digging for answers.

I think it's great to have a different perspective, especially today with all the assessements on the web where people with a lot of symptoms (like me) think that they have X and Y and Z and so on, when in fact, it may be something completely different and underlying, something only a well experienced and educated person (practitioner, doc,...) can see and adress - aswell as adressing the probably most important and influential organ/organ system/problem...with a good plan (lifestyle, supplements, stress management, periodization, re-testing, adjustment,....) which may kickstart the whole healing-process and doesn't make it necessary to focus on the other problems, instead of adressing everything at once and investing in the 4 to 5 digits into supplements and whatnot.
Example: sleep problems, toxins, pathogens, no energy, muscle pain, joint pain, headaches, digestion problems, diarrhea, constipation, bloating, allergies, intolerances, blood sugar problems, no motivation, depression, anxiety, low VitD, high cholesterol, tension in jaw/neck area,....well, sleep is probably the most important here, but where to start? Try over 40 sleep supplements like I did? Fix the diet? Force yourself into a proper sleep schedule? Do all the meditation, blue blocking stuff, f.lux, EMF, turn off W-Lan, go outside, get sunlight in the morning, daily walking, diary, aromatherapy, get rid of plastics,...? Take all the other supplements during the day that may or may not help (B-Vitamins, VitD, multivit, fish oil, magnesium, enzymes, HCl,...)? Do everything at once and burn away the little energy that's left? And for how long? What dosages? What combinations? What are the side-effects and what symptoms could occur that are acceptable while healing? When to stop? How to stop? When to cover the other stuff? What to cover next? How to re-test? But guess what, my liver is absolutely overloaded, so if I take a decent amount of supplements I'd run into serious trouble within a short period of time. In terms of the questionnaires on the web I'd have all the common problems (thyroid, adrenals, SIBO, IBS,....), when in fact it may just be a problem with it's roots in the digestion, or in the mitochondria energy production,... It's not as easy as so many people on the web claim it to be, and it's not always about popping some supplements (which aren't necessarily better than medication) and everything will be fine, or that we all jump on the Paleo/high fat train and we get better within a week (some people just can't handle high fat, some need carbs in the morning, some need to avoid fruit, some need to cook everything, some need to eat more meat while some need very little meat and so on....).
Some people may get better with all the supplements and tipps on the web (and even less really heal themselves but do symptom treatment), but I feel like most of us get really confused and even much more stressed out with all the stuff, and many take supplements that actually do them more harm than good. Yes, supplements have side effects. Yes, supplements can do a lot of harm. Yes, there are many low quality supplements out there. And there is SO MUCH that we still don't know today, especially long-term impact of supplements and the synergistic complex within a food with all the different amounts and combinations of amino acids, fatty acids, sugars, minerals, vitamins, enzymes, co-factors, phyto-nutrients. I'm not saying that they can't help, what I say is that we have no clue what they really do and there are a lot of people out there who wanna make profit out of your desperate need for relief and health.
So what did I learn besides that stuff in the last almost 3 years now of trail and error and suffering and investing a shitload of money? Listen to your body and throw away any dogmatic thinking!! You also don't need a test for everything, your body can tell you so much - I personally always felt like eating certain foods at certain times and that always fit the, for example, TCM recommendations (or Metabolic Typing, FODMAPs, GABA enhancing foods, allergy test,...). And if you have problems that are severe and/or several in number, invest in a holistic health practitioner who can find the real cause and send you to the right expert! Personally I found C.H.E.K. Practitioners to be very helpful and well educated. Also, having somebody around to help with the cooking and stuff, having some support or just somebody who understands you (a group of people with a lot of problems aswell who meet for example on skype regularly) is so so important.

It becomes very overwhelming & then dealing with hormones..those fluctuate! Maybe I’m using DIM or maca & need to stop at a certain point but who knows?? The body is so complex & the crossover of everything we’re doing trying to heal could actually be counterintuitive. I appreciate your comments; you’re speaking a very important truth.

Been running into this concept of "adrenal fatigue doesn't exist" a lot lately. It's a rather clumsy way of saying that "adrenal fatigue" as a label is a misnomer, and that a better label would be something like "HPA dysregulation". Problem is, saying it doesn't exist is easily conflated with the idea that the adrenals aren't part of the problem, and don't need to be supported.

  • @paulharris9868
    @paulharris9868 8 років тому +1

Well in a nutshell, 'stress' is the trigger, any stress. Adrenal fatigue is when the body starts to not be able to produce enough cortisol. Cortisol is our major stress hormone, and so when we can’t produce enough of it you know, we get really tired because it keeps us awake, in the earlier stages, you might have trouble sleeping at night. Just having trouble getting to sleep and waking up multiple times throughout the night. A lot of people will experience blood sugar crashes, so they sort of get that “Hangry” feeling, where they are sort of hungry and angry at the same time. You know a lot of just mood and anxiety sort of symptoms because of the blood sugar crashes. Basically, these are going to be the main symptoms you are going to get from adrenal fatigue. So that is how you can sort of know if you have it, or if you should get checked out for it.But adrenal fatigue is caused by too much stress, for the short answer. Because our body can handle short bouts of stress, it is sort of made to be able to handle that. Our ancestors had to catch food to eat, they would have had these shorts bursts of stress. Then they would have had time to sit and relax, you there are these two extremes where one is the “Fight of Flight Mode”, where the body is stressed out, you are producing lots of cortisol, you are having that stress reaction. And then other times you know, you are really relaxing and taking it easy so your body can digest food, and do all that kind of thing. So, I would really like to call, instead of referring to it as Adrenal Fatigue, I usually like to refer to it as HPA axis dysfunction. That sounds really complicated, so, a lot of people don’t use that term, because it’s not a very good search term. And if you are trying to figure out what the heck is going on with your adrenals, you probably to not know much about the HPA axis. But, the HPA axis is basically the axis between the hypothalamus, pituitary, and the adrenal glands. All of them are connected. So what happens when we get stressed is, first: The HPA is the role center for the reaction to stress, and it regulates a lot of other body functions like digestion and immunity. So when we are in contact with a stressor, like being in traffic, the first thing that happens is something called CRH, which is Corticotrophin-Releasing Hormone, is released from the hypothalamus. CRH travels within the blood, to the interior pituitary gland, and stimulates the production of adrenal corticotrophin-hormone, also known as ACTH for a shorter way of saying it. ACTH goes through the blood to the adrenal cortex, which it ultimately stimulates the release of cortisol, which is the body’s main stress hormone (which we have already talked about), as well as some other hormones, like DHEA and others. So that’s a brief biochemistry lesson as to how the body reacts when we get stressed out. That’s what’s going on behind the scenes in the body. Cortisol works to help keep blood glucose levels elevated, and to help the body retain sodium so that our blood pressure stays high, and so that our blood glucose can keep up with the fuel demands of the brain and other vital organs during times of stress. So you know how blood glucose and high blood pressure do not sound like a good, but when you are talking about being in a stressful situation, those are the things that the body actually wants to prioritize, you know, you want to have that energy to keep going. Because if you are running away from a bear of something, that’s what you want!So be careful lets say if you are on an atkins or keto diet, as his comment about sugar, good carbs, might be just what you need and a simple back loading of carbs might throw you out of ketosis, but you will sleep like a baby and feel super the next day, so remember adrenal fatigue has various situations, you cannot 'generalize' it as caffeine, a specific deficiency in a vitamin (by the way, Vitamin D is really a hormone not a vitamin as he says). Hope this helps some on a more scientific or practical level. What he is abosolutely correct about is STRESS, find it, minimize or eliminate it and pay attention to your diet type and fitness level. What works for the normal 9-5 desk working eating a SAD diet will not apply to a keto adapted active person or athlete. This is VERY IMPORTANT to consider. good health.

Adrenal exhaustion is not a joke. Chinese traditional medicine is way superior to this bio chemical causal diatribe. All disease is founded in the disruption of qi. The kidney is the store of primary essence (jing). When it is depleted there is deep fatigue and the ageing process is mostly rooted in this eventual natural depletion. Manifestation of weak kidney meridian including adrenals are weakened will, poor memory, weak bladder, loose teeth, hair loss, hearing/ear problems and so on. All the symptoms of ageing but in a young person fatigue and other illnesses. Western medicine could learn a lot.

Lots of emotional reactions that don’t even relate to the actual title. It’s a question on whether it exists, not a statement that it doesn’t, yet people are having knee jerk reactions yet obviously never listened to the video. Like how adrenals aren’t the one and only issue, it’s just part of the greater picture. It shows you hit a nerve and that people still want quick fixes and easy answers. Blame the adrenals, done. They wouldn’t dare look at other things, thinking the treatment of an obvious symptom (rather than all the ones they missed and caused the adrenal issue in the first place) is somehow a cure.

But the whole point is that the issue isn’t adrenal fatigue, but a systemic problem that harms adrenals that ends up giving you your symptoms, but that “adrenal fatigue” isn’t the only answer. Anyone who has spent time studying this knows that adrenals and thyroid work in balance. Your adrenal fatigue means hyper thyroid. Hypo thyroid goes with excess adrenals. Adrenal fatigue is part of a balance, not the answer.

I agree to disagree with Carrie Jones, ND about adrenal "fatigue"/ adrenal insufficiency, Stress is huge !! if you think about the condition "diabetes" and the role the pancreas has on maintaining levels of ph in the stomach as well as controlling blood glucose levels with insulin and other hormones that aid in the control of blood glucose levels, they include the liver and adrenals. I believe in adrenal fatigue as a part of pancreatic exhaustion, using supply and demand theory. Gut imbalances and Malnutrition results from years of improper levels of stomach pH for foods to be digested properly.....I also believe that many people have hypothalmic or pituitary issues that are not diagnosed or underdiagnosed and that may be recognized as a part of MEN conditions may possibly be inherited, creating a smorgasboard of symptoms that are confusing for those suffering. If you are so "hypo" anything or one of your glands is dysfunctional, then you are unable to perform to any standard recognized and therefore may not be recognized as being unwell in the first place. I haven't had a temperature for any infection above 99 since my mid 20's with my first pregnancy, that was a result of a bacterial incisional infection post-op a c-section and I was very malnourished and hormonally unstable at the time, unknowingly. I believe that most problems lie in root from pancreatic fatigue and pain. escalating over time with liver complications in response to glucagon and sugar stores along with pain and eventually adrenal insufficiency due to extremes in lifestyles, leading to overgrowths in intestinal microbes but also setting up scenarios for poor immune responses with weakened defenses. After my 4th child I had trouble getting through the days and for 20 years I relied on many medications to relieve my symptoms. By mid 40's my experience from waking every morning with sweating and bilateral mid-back pain up rising each day, migraines and tons of intestinal issues with ensuing hypothyroidism with my body shutting down from total exhaustion and from malnourishment from earlier years while trying to fighting virus', fungus, bacterial and other pathogens that we are exposed to throughout life. Childhood illnesses and STD's, Lymes disease, and any exposures including TB are always being controlled by immune system and response. If you have incurred any injury throughout your life, then demands are doubled for every injury or surgery that the body attempts to heal in addition to routines of fighting external microbials. Other factors to consider in adrenal fatigue and pancreatic pain and fatigue, is daily mind stress, some of us tend to be complicated thinkers and it takes a great deal of energy and glucose, those with anxiety and other OCD scenarios, all affected by foods we eat and our sometimes learned personalities and high levels of cortisol from our Mother's. I am a 50 plus year old inactive Nurse, Mother of 4 (all c-sections within 5 years), with 7 total surgeries (removal of gallbladder and 2 parathyroid glands) and head injury and chronic pancreatitis, now diet controlled diabetic recognized by Dr. of Functional Medicine as living with adrenal fatigue. I am 75% better as long as I mind my limitations and embrace all holistic avenues available and eat clean fresh foods. I agree hormones are key and our foods play a huge role in nourishing our cells. Sugar, caffeine, and alcohol is our enemy. Sugar and Estrogen plays a huge role in weight gain and also in hormone related cancers, specifically breast cancer. So regulate your hormones by stabilizing your blood glucose levels. I believe that glucose intolerance is a result of too much glucagon being released. High demands cause many of our problems.

I'm quite young and I had IBS and now have fatigue, brain fog, disturbed liver detox phases (made the coffee detox test), mercury and aluminium in blood, leaky gut, elevated cortisol...what's the way out of it? I had all this tested, I even have infections like yersinia and ascaris roundworm. But antibiotics would f*ck up the gut even more so my doc won't give it to me. She only gives me antihelmitic medication. You say some smart things, I was an analytic and a complicated thinker and had a little anxiety for years since I was very young. What's the way out of it , where to start? I spend a fortune on supplements and I spent a lot on a therapy but the only thing what helped is diet change and supplements.
Why do you think people have improper levels of stomach ph? Maybe it is just a symptom of an overworked liver? Lots of people get detox crisis when they take stomach enzymes. I wasn't really helped by them.

This condition is terrible indeed and it is even worse when people around me tell me that I am just lazy or that I only have to sleep 2 nights and it will pass.

Adrenal Fatigue absolutely exists and can be found in blood work when there's a problem. Those who end up on prednisone to save their lives, most.. know this to be true. Including me. The pathway and processes involved are very serious. Adrenal Fatigue is not only serious... it's deadly... unless there's intervention. If people end up in an addisonian crisis because they decided to change the way they ate, etc... they're in real danger and one that can end their lives. Adrenal Fatigue absolutely exists.

@autumnwhispers2me you are asbolutely right. I too had to get prednisolone to survive. And all this has nothing to do with communication and brain signals, because taking hormones works, whick means the feedback loop works. The problem is that the adrenals are not producing what they should. And I also got very close to an Addisonian crisis, which left me almost dead. I do not drink coffee. In my case I also need to take progesterone, and DHEA. The first time I took DHEA I realised what it feels like to be alive. I'm sorry but I cannot take this interview seriously.

I started taking this along with black cohosh because I noticed my mood was scratchy and I can't have a scratchy mood at work.
Same night, I slept through the night. Stopped having hot flashes & night sweats and stopped feeling like I was going to flip the f out on stupid people. I forgot to take it a couple days & I had a hot flash.
So, for the sanity & safety of everyone, I might that "stress formula" a priority!
I feel great taking these, getting good sleep & not waking up multiple times a night to urinate, or to change my jammies because I sweated through them, or just stressing about stuff.
I take a brand called Gaia Stress Response that contains those herbals you mentioned: rhodiola, ashwaganda, & holy basil, plus some other great things.
      Great formula!
      Good luck!

The adrenals don't really give out but can be "sabotaged" causing other organs like the thyroid, kidney, liver, other areas to malfunction. I also think HPA axis dysfunction, or functional adrenal insufficiency as defined by Ari Whitten is a better definition. I'm not a doctor, or in medicine, just a concerned citizen who wants everyone to be healthy. Great video.

Listen to these two everyone! I've tried both hormone therapy(for adrenal fatigue) and IF and working out. The latter was much more helpful. I'm not completely out of the woods, so to speak, but I'm much better now and sleeping better. Plus, you can never know how much of a hormone you need at a given time of the day. Plus those "outside sources" will shut down your natural hormone production for 3-6 months.

      Hi+Ria Mag,
I believe so! Many practitioners that I know report great benefits through this approach.
One school of thinking is that we used to eat many organs of animals, but now we don't.
The other school of thought it is we're exposed to so many endocrine disrupting chemicals and artificial light etc... so our endocrine system is being stressed in an unprecedented way; hence the extra support is needed.
(I personally take XYMOGEN T-150, it works really well as a broad spectrum, yet balanced, glandular.
      Thanks,
      Mike
