Dr. Ignarro was my pharmacy professor at UCLA med school (my med school was UC-Irvine, but during medical down time, I had to take pharm at UCLA). He was very humble and kind man.

I do a lot of hiking, climbing, ski mountaineering, and back country skiing at high altitude. I breathe in through my nose until I can't supply enough air through my nose alone, then start using my mouth in addition to my nose. I breathe out through my nose when not highly exerted, then breathe out through my mouth while restricting the air flow, when highly exerted, creating an increased pressure in my lungs simulating a lower elevation. You increase the partial pressure of oxygen in your lungs. At high altitude, the oxygen molecules are further apart (less dense air) and the pressure to push the oxygen into your lungs is lower. I was taught this when about 6 years old (1965). I've lived at 8,000' nearly my whole life, playing at up to over 14,000'.

Amazing, these 2 together, I been following Dr Hyman since seeing him on PBS, He should be in charge of FDA and Department of Health for this country. He truly love helping people. By living a healthy lifestyle I avoided covid while everyone around who overweight,, ate poorly got it and had the shots. I avoided the shot. Good eating real food, cutting out sugar, walking and breathing in the noses, exhale threw the mouth, exercise daily. I'm 65, my friends that I were in daily contact were 28-50 would not listen. I hike with them and I'm always waiting for them, enjoying the view at the top. Thank you Dr Hyman ❤

You may have everything needed for a healthy, young, long life. But the basic question is when did we laugh aloud or when was the last time you looked at the future with hope and joy? Humanity hasn't been healed yet rather it got only worser. Corrupt regimes, the fear of what's after Pandemic, Govts like North Korea, PCR and some Muslim nations who still keep their people as slaves and the ever growing poverty in the African countries and the threat of Nukes and AI hanging over our heads like sword of Damocles, how do we prioritise our needs. Totally appreciate the video and the humble Scientist talking new knowledge about health without any personal agenda like a story teller. and enjoyed the enthusiasm of the Podcaster which sure is contagious. This is my perspective from a larger point of view. Please take no offence on what I expressed. In India we see people dying without oxygen, hospital beds and fighting over vaccines.

Such a fascinating topic, thank you so much for having Dr. Ignarro on your podcast. I have one criticism that hopefully Dr. Hymen will take to heart, & that is he needs to be more self-aware of the noises he makes while his guests are speaking. His constant lip smacking, snorting, throat clearing, & heavy breathing were all picked up by his highly sensitive microphone & completely distracting, but with some mindful practices (mute button?), he could mostly eliminate those sounds so that we can focus on what his guest is saying. Overall though, this was quite an enjoyable show.

Dr Ignarro's intelligence level is completely off the scale, yet he speaks in a manner so even I understood every word! 👍👍
I watched the entire video on UA-cam on a 55inch flat-screen 2 years after the somewhat rude comments on breathing and it's eithet edited out or these people are over sensitive. There's nothing outside of normal at all IMO but if it was bad enough your only comments were to complain remember, God made sure all TVs and smart phones have closed caption for self centered unappreatives and I'm trying but it's hard to be nice.

According so some research Dr. Sarah Hallberg described, eating saturated fat lowers the level of saturated fat in the blood stream.
A mechanistic explanation of cholesterol and atherosclerosis is that it is a structural component of plaque, that is being deposited in a certain location to repair damage, and is not causing the damage. The damage that needs repair is the bulging out of the artery wall due to the intimal hyperplasia. The normal expansion of cells at the intima media junction has, for some reason, accelerated drastically, and this bulge into the blood stream could cause blockage of the artery. This makes a lot more sense than thinking the elevated cholesterol is just sticking to the artery wall, for some reason. Lots of people with low cholesterol have died of artery blockage so this is not the explanation of root cause.

I think NO also might play a role in GERD in some people. The lower esophageal sphincter is smooth muscle as well and I noticed that when I started eating kale with every meal and having dark chocolate my Gerd got so bad it was as if the LES wasn't working at all (no hiatal hernia either). I think there are some studies out there that discuss NO role in GERD

I take two capsules each morning total $2 of the most powerful antioxidant in history. They each have the antioxidant power of 20,000 glasses of organic carrot juice. Been doing that for 20 years. Now I find out the antioxidants increase nitric oxide which is similar effect of Viagra without the side effects and high price. I'm a senior and in perfect health and my hair is still black and the only one in my family of 5 siblings who doesn't need reading glasses or any medication. I've studied alternative health for 30 years for my own benefit and because I find it more interesting that staying ignorant and eating the wrong foods and then having doctors prescribe drugs with side effects. That's one way that ignorance isn't bliss.

Fascinating and timely conversation. One suggestion for Dr. Hyman -- please edit the UA-cam transcription. UA-cam's auto-transcription gets about 90% of the words right, but it misses nearly all the medical, pharmacological, and scientific terminology, the proper names, and the uncommon words that would make it comprehensible as well as translatable into other languages. Previously, UA-cam allowed viewers to correct video transcriptions, but removed this capability so only the content producer can do this. Viewers who are hard of hearing or who aren't native English speakers, as well as anyone who'd like to read more about this research, will thank you.
