I love when she surprises us with unexpected choices in her delivery of a song. Just when you think she's gonna go big at the end, she pulls it way back, but then holds it for what seems like an eternity! It's not only her voice alone which makes her one of the very best pop singers of all time. It's her phrasing, her acting in the song, and her unique style which is only Barbra's. As the saying goes... They broke the mold when they made her! She's one of a kind. You never hear anyone say she reminds them of anybody else. You might hear people say that singers after Barbra remind them of Barbra. But she's the original. No one like her. Period. Thanks again Saeed!
Her voice just soars, as if over a rainbow, and takes your soul with it. And then it brings you back gently, like a butterfly hovering over a flower. What's also so much a part of her performances is how purposeful yet organic her facial and body expressions are... her hands, a casual shrug of her shoulders, the tilt of her head, and oh those eyes. She doesn't just sing a song, she manifests it to life. It's why I so often describe Barbra over other singers as the one who sings in 3D, while everyone else is singing in 2D. She's as mesmerizing to watch as she is to listen to. Great reaction, Saeed... and, as always, thank you for your keen insights!
So glad you’re discovering and appreciating the voice of B As an avid fan, her voice never ceases to amaze me. Even though I’ve viewed this dozens of times, I still ask “how does she do that”?
My first memory of Barbra Streisand was as a young child watching the Judy Garland show with my mom. She adored Judy. They sang a duet of Happy Days Are Here Again and C'mon Get Happy. Even young I thought wow that's amazing! One day that clip popped up on UA-cam and a flood of memories rushed back. Remembering my mom and watching that together. I'd recommend it to you. I highly recommend it to you and watch Barbra just a young lady with so much presence and talent. At one point Judy looks at her like wow kid!
This concert was so special..her version of this and send in the clowns and somewhere here on this night are all amazing...but papa can you hear me is the most incredible momen
Thank you for another reaction of Barbra!! The song “Papa can you hear me” from that same concert “one voice” is one of her best live vocals and it’s a song with one of the best lyrics… Love you react to Barbra!!
The composer of this tune was one of the all time classic greats- Harold Arlen. His family escaped deadly pogroms against Jews in Russia - this song, I believe, is his Thankyou to America. ❤
I respectfully disagree. Hehe! The best live performance of "Somewhere" was her closing night in NYC at Madison Square Garden in '94, where she also simulcast it live on the Jumbotron in Times Square. I was there! She gave it her all! She really wanted to do something special for her hometown, since she had to change the end of her tour from NYC to Anaheim, CA. due to earlier postponing her Anaheim concerts because of laryngitis. The ending "Somehow, Someday, Somewhere" blew the roof off the Garden and blew away the people gathered in Times Square! I wish there was a good copy of it. She did use the final show in NYC for the CD. But she used a different "Somewhere". I don't know why. Maybe because she responded twice to us in the audience during the song and wanted the full song without interruptions for the recording? Anyway, if you hadn't heard it at all, here's a poor copy of it... ua-cam.com/video/W0PLeIN29Io/v-deo.html
@@ChuckMusicDinoLover I know both of them and i must say they were pretty awesome. The way she hit the last notes on the Timesquare broadcast made me tear up a little. I just like her '86 version better because her composers decided to arrange the song to be more of an 80s vibe which i'm crazy about. The band really shined in that one along with Barbra's legend of a voice. She actually derived the ending notes of somewhere from her '86 version which you hear on her concerts subsequent to the '86 performance.
@@Beckham-u3i Yep, you're right! The One Voice Concert was the first time she used that new ending to "Somewhere". And yes, it became her staple ending for it from then on. My guess why she changed it was because the album version's last extra high long note just would've been too unnecessarily risky to perform live, especially night after night in all the shows in her tours. She's smart. She knows what's best for her and what would be the best she could give her audience night after night. Yeah, how about those final notes in the Times Square performance! Guess I should've suggested to have Kleenex at hand. Lol! So powerful! You should have heard them live in Times Square, when the sound was bouncing off the buildings and taxis were honking afterwards! It was so surreal! They said it was the most amount of people in Times Square at the same time except for New Year's Eve. I was so lucky to get a ticket to opening night at Madison Square Garden for her come back tour in '94. It was the first time I've seen her live! And then to be in Times Square for closing night... magical! The feeling I had reminded me of her song from Yentl, "This Is One Of Those Moments", especially the first lines... There are moments you remember all your life. There are moments you wait for and dream of all your life. This is one of those moments. 😎👍💕
@@ChuckMusicDinoLover My granny and papa went twice both opening and closing night. I remember they said she was really nervous opening night but her voice never faltered. They said her closing night was top tier and her delivery was so good, she owned the stage. I don't really care yall were lucky to even be alive to witness that magical period in time. 🙌
@@Beckham-u3i Wow! That's so great they were able to get tickets to both. It was almost impossible to get tickets to her come-back concerts! Back then we had to call the Ticket Master hotlines that were set up just for Barbra's concerts. But it was always busy. When I finally got through to them, they said it was sold out. But I was lucky. Someone was selling there's in an add in the New York Times. I happen to see it and called them and got it. I was so nervous when I got to the concert because I was afraid the ticket might be fake. But it wasn't, thank goodness. Funny thing is, I don't remember many details from it today. I was so captivated, like it was a dream. You have some great singers today too. I like Kelly Clarkson, Adam Lambert, Jennifer Hudson, Lady Gaga, Celine... They make their own magic too!
I remember this concert. It was called One Voice and was broadcast live on HBO in 1986. It had been years since anyone saw or heard Barbra sing live in concert, and a lot of people I knew were hurrying to subscribe to HBO so they could watch it! Absolutely sensational! Nice memory.
Really love your reactions and so glad you are honoring this once in a lifetime artist. I really hope you react to places you find love! Keep these coming!
She's truly an icon. Unforgettable voice - and a terrific actress. I can't remember if you reacted to "The Wizard of Aaahs" with Pentatonix and Todrick Hall.
Barbra is just amazing and Judy would be proud. You should review the duet with Judy & Barbra! Renee Zelwegger did an amazing job as Judy…it was Judy’s last years. ❤❤
Judy Garland was probably at her best live in concert. In front of an audience, she really turned it on. I think one of her best live songs is "I Can't Give You Anything But Love" from the Carnegie Hall album. It's 7 minutes of pure Judy.
There is no-one ever that can match the voice, depth and range, emotion, breath control, vocal control, and angelic voice of Barbra. She is "The One". If you want to see her full range of talent I think that her movie, " "Funny Girl-" ( based on the life of Fanny Brice) is where you can see and hear the total package of Streisand. Watch the video of a very young Barbra sing with Judy Garland ( on her tv show) singing "Happy Days Are Here Again/Get Happy" Do watch The Wizard of Oz. If not then at least watch a 15 yr. old Judy Garland sing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" Also watch the official video of Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo'ole......IZZY. sing his version ofv"Somewhere Over ThevRainbow".
In case you don't know the singer she was referring to was none other than the late Judy Garland who was very famous for being in the movie (The Wizard of Oz)- anotrher classic
There's another film about Judy Garland, a made for TV film, starring Judy Davis that's pretty excellent. If I remember correctly, it was a two part film and I'm sure it's available on one of the many streaming services.
One thing about Barbara is that almost all of her songs (about 90%) have very long notes at the end of the songs. Either at the end or throughout the entire song. In some materials, it has been from people listen to impossible-to-play notes again for about 20 to 30 seconds each!
Saeed, thanks so much for all these Barbra reactions. I am loving it. You should definitely check out the duet that Barbra and Judy did on Judy’s TV show. Song is: Happy Days. Interesting fact, Judy also starred in A Star Is Born (there were four versions, Judy did the second version and of course you know Barbra did the third version). A great song from Judy’s version would be: The Man That Got Away. Certainly worth checking out. Thanks again for your content.
This repair was done in 1986, after the huge success of the album "The Broadway Album". In fact, This show was intended to raise funds, I don't remember why. Tickets were around $5000. I may be wrong with some information
Love this song.. Anything is possible with God's Grace.. Over the rainbow. Nice reaction again to Barbra's rendition.. Who does it better? Babs of course.
Could you react to the song called “ if loving you is wrong, I don’t want to be right “ by Luther Ingram. The lyrics are like no other song I’ve ever heard. Thank you.
I know it's positively blasphemous to say, but I never loved this song, but Barbra's take here gives it the life that Harold Arlen's classic deserves. Funny you mention seeing The Wizard of Oz again ... we just did, and I'd forgotten what an utterly amazing movie it was/is. Simply mesmerizing on every level. Final thought; speaking of blasphemy, skip RZ's _Judy_ ... and go for Judy Davis' _Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows_ .
Wait….did I just hear you say you’ve heard versions of this song…….but not the original? You didn’t mention Judy Garland’s name, did you? This was HER song. She originally sang it and she was known for it throughout her life. For gawd’s sake listen to the original!

She has such amazing control of her vocals. Her and Whitney Houston! I've never heard their voices crack.
She did Judy proud!!! that's for sure..
I love that Barbra sang the intro, which most singers ignore. It really sets the mood for the song.

The one and only!
This will always be Judy Garland's Song. It was written for HER to sing [1938] in the Wizard of Oz released in 1939, when she was only 16
It wasn’t written specifically for Judy Garland. It was written for the film and it was almost cut from The Wizard of Oz.
It's Eva Cassidys song now!
I agree. Barbra is my favorite singer but Over The Rainbow will always be Judy’s song. ❤️
