@@Sabundy I understand what you’re saying but “rock and roll” isn’t that simple. It’s a blend of a lot of musical genres and is ever evolving. I’m sure Elvis Presley wouldn’t think Led Zeppelin was rock and roll. He didn’t even think the Beatles were rock and roll, but to me Zeppelin moved rock forward. I doubt Chuck Berry or Bill Haley would enjoy or recognize Anthrax, Rage Against the Machine or Nirvana as rock and roll but it is to me. The collaborations of Run-DMC and Aerosmith and Jay-Z and Linkin Park shows how rap and rock work together. More recently the rise of Post Malone who goes from rock to rock/rap to country seamlessly shows rock is on a continuum. It’s a state of mind. “God gave rock and roll to you. Gave rock and roll to you. Gave rock and roll to everyone. God gave rock and roll to you. Gave rock and roll to you. Put it in the soul of everyone” Paul Stanley/Kiss 🤘🏾
There are thousand of people who can sing 'generically' well...but very few with the vocal character and live control that takes them to special levels. George was clearly one of them.
I had the pleasure of seeing him in concert in Dublin years ago and while he had a brilliant tight band, it was his voice that dominated his performance and especially when he sang a Capella, it was just glorious. Such a huge loss to music.
Alison Kraus deserves to be included in that list of one of the best voices ever. I'm not a country fan at all but I have to say that her voice is as close to an angel's voice as I have ever heard in all my years.
And Karen C., cannot leave out a list of greatest voices without her. But George's voice is divine and he rules as a "crooner". Listen to the Frank Sinatra-eaque "Kissing a Fool".
There’s not enough adjectives in the dictionary to describe how utterly amazing George Michael was. He was such a troubled soul, yet that NEVER affected his performances. I absolutely adored him ❤
Glad I checked him out. Having been raised in the IBLP/duggar cult tv, film, net, radio, school....all banned so there is a signifacant whole in my cultural knowledge.

What he wasn't a rock singer loved his abilities but he does not belong in rock hall of fame my friend pop hall of fame most definitely a definite place for him
Rock n roll hall of fame is not just for rock singers. They represent a diverse group of artists. Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Criteria include the influence and significance of the artists' contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll. Maybe go into their website and learn about them. George covered many styles of music. He sang blue eyed soul and won some prestigious awards which got other singers backs up because he wasn’t black, he sang love songs, he sang disco, he did sing some rock, he did plenty of covers from Stevie Wonder, Seal, The Beatles to Queen, Adamski and The Police. He wrote a song that he performed with Paul McCartney. He was so incredibly diverse. There are many artists that have stated he influenced them. George Michael was his own genre. That’s why he got his nomination and that’s why he deserves it. These days they recognise DJ’s, musicians, record label executives, songwriters, record producers, Dolly Parton was nominated and didn’t think she deserved it because she wasn’t rock and roll. Although Parton had asked to be removed from the ballot because she did not think of herself as a rock artist, the Hall responded that "From its inception, rock and roll has had deep roots in rhythm & blues and country music. It is not defined by any one genre, rather a sound that moves youth culture. Dolly Parton's music impacted a generation of young fans and influenced countless artists that followed. Her nomination to be considered for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame followed the same process as all other artists who have been considered." So maybe learn a little about the Hall of Fame and don’t say someone who worked so hard and had such amazing talent shouldn’t be considered for induction. Quite frankly it should have happened before he died.
@@jerrodmcdaniel2043t's a music hall of fame. Maybe they should change the name. But it's a club and they refuse certain people making them irrelevant to many
@@Thomas-xs2kq No it was a different era, if the Beatles hadn't come at the time that they did I suspect their song writing and experimenting was the only thing that would've made separated them, I was very young at the time, there were far more musical, " better singers" around at the time ie Rolling Stones Jackson 5, even Steve Winwood at 14 was better than John and Paul.

Hi Fil, what a lovely analysis of George's vocal on the Parkinson show 1998. I was playing bass with him from 1996 to 2012 and this performance is my favourite of his on UA-cam. It is an astounding vocal, he was an astounding man. SW
George Michael's talent is eternal. He had a truly unique voice, and a perfectionist, yet he made it all seem sound effortless. His death still hits me, seven years later. 💔
George Michael had such a gorgeous voice. The use of the pitch monitor shows what a gem he really was. Thank you, Fil, for this very thorough analysis of a great voice taken far too soon.
George had the voice of an angel. Just pitch perfect, and always delivered with such amazing control that exuded warmth and emotion in every song he sang. He had a gorgeous voice and an even more gorgeous soul. God bless him....We miss you George!
In the future people will finally realise that George wasn't just a great Singer but, that he was actually the greatest male pop Singer ever produced by this country. Just go and listen to the ultra auto biographical track by George called "THROUGH" which is an absolute masterclass of emotive singing by a man who is a master singer on par with EVHs control of his guitar. We've lost an absolute icon of songwriting and vocal delivery. R. I. P. 😌😔
I agree honestly I can only listen to his Christmas song last Christmas because there’s no way to cover it good enough and it’s been covered by a few artists. Also his vocals are amazing.
This has made me miss George more than ever. It's always so upsetting to know you'll never hear new music from and artist you love. Still, how lucky to have moments like this to look back on.
I always adored his voice. So underrated. Careless Whisper, Kissing A Fool, Praying For Time, You Have Been Loved, Jesus To A Child, Waiting For The Day & Somebody To Love are all brilliant mastering of his talent.
There has never been a voice that has resonated with my soul the way that George Michael's voice does. It's like it reaches directly into my heart and covers me with goosebumps. The clarity of his voice and the way in which I can hear every lyric expressed is impressive in itself. Then, we have the passion in which he performs that invites the audience in to each performance. I could go on and on about the genius of this artist, yet I gather that many will feel the same as what I do as well. Thank you George for gifting us with your amazing vocals and all around incredible talent.🇦🇺🎶🎤🎵🥰
@@ricardoe4215 I'm listening to him right now. It takes much to impress me, especially when I don't believe in celebrity. Yet George is something so very special and extremely rare. His natural talent leaves me in awe. I have no doubt that we are alone.💖
@@krisushi1You probably know this but George always said He always wanted to be famous, but It was the celebrity that he just couldn't handle. In my opinion that is what made him human! He just wanted to live his life w/o everyone thinking they own him. 🕯😇🎶🎶🎶💖
@@bk4062 Yes, I have heard George state many times that he had wished to be famous but more so for his songwriting talent. He also said that performing live and touring was the greatest ego stroker but he never required this. He said that if he could create an album and stay home whilst watching it rise in the charts without having to promote would be a dream come true. He hated the celebrity aspect of the industry. I like the line he wrote in 'Star People' where he sings - "I don't count myself among you". Again, he stated that anything that you wished to know about him would always be written in his lyrics. It's how I feel that I've come to understand him better. As one who despises celebrity myself, as I believe we are all equal and having a talent that thrusts one into the limelight does not make them a better person than you or I, I cannot see George living this type of life. It can be fun occasionally, but not full-time. All he wished for is to build upon his talent privately, perform occasionally as he was a natural performer and live in peace. I still can't understand why the media kept harassing him to such a ridiculous extent, despite admitting to being gay. Elton John was never given this much attention and it was a more difficult time for him. As much as I dearly miss George, I can't say that I would rather him still being here under the constant pressure he endured. I believe that he is finally at peace, yet we are left with those wonderful gifts he gifted us to continue on his memory.💖
George Michael was one of the most underrated singers, musicians and songwriters in history - despite being a global star. He was so incredibly talented and most people don't realise how he wrote all his own songs and music and essentially played all the instruments. He is not on a par with other global pop stars who have teams of writers and musicians creating work for them and all sorts of digital equipment to make their voice sound good. He was also a wonderful master of the stage. He is greatly missed and I'm not some rabid superfan or anything like that - I just have total respect for his unbelievable talent and hard work and brilliant pop songs.
Just sublime. George had the most gorgeous voice. I was a fan from Wham! days and I'm so glad I had a chance to see him live. We lost his incredible talent far too soon, just four days after I lost my own dear father.
You articulated a quality that I've understood as a listener...but never been able to say for a lack of musical education. George was a ridiculous talent. So missed.
Brilliant, just got better and better as he got older. You only have to look at other people’s songs who were brilliant vocally ,that he took and made his own and took to another level altogether. The best and also a beautiful individual!
I saw him live in Copenhagen and was so impressed by his voice. There was almost no difference between live performance and studio recordings. He was just next level. Sadly missed.
George's versions of the long and winding road and i cant make you love me are two that demonstrate his amazing beautiful perfect vocal ability. Just stunning. No one comes close to him!
Not only truly phenomenal singing but he also wrote his own songs for the most part. Truly an icon and one that doesn't really exist that much anymore.
His voice is the nearest thing to angelic I've ever heard, as a life long fan I can honestly say every single time I listen to him it's just like being enveloped by a velvet cloak, his voice literally shimmers
I was talking to a friend about George Michael and I said he had the voice of an Angel, he was so special and an incredible talent. Also a very giving man, as was reported by many after he passed away. May he forever Rest in Peace.
No wonder it is so pleasant so soothing so addictive listening to any and all of George's song. There are precise science to his every tune, every breathe drawn to each word.... oh how we lost the best soulful vocal the world has ever been gifted to enjoy
Anyway. George, it turned out was a friend of a friend i used to go on tour with back around this time DJing between bands. Had no idea. When he died he posted a tribute. George recorded some stuff at his studio too. He'd call him up, "Hey man its George the Greek!" I love how he tried hard to keep his feet on the ground and not service the ego. Kept quiet about his charity work rather than seek publicity. I loved that he smoked pot, though drugs were maybe not his friend at times. And I hated that the media felt they had to hound him to somehow keep us happy. Bastards. Nice one Fil.
A Different Corner has always been one of my favourite songs. I never tire of listening to it. Quite simply beautiful. All the best talents seem to leave us far too soon .
George voice has an amazing tone. He puts everything into his songs, feeling. George doesn't need a group, he is one of a kind. A big loss to the world, in everyway, as a singer, songwriter and human being. They don't come any better than George Michael
Don’t know anything about vocal technique but I always appreciated George Michael’s voice very much, he’s right there with the greatest voices of all time .
OMG Fil, I am SO GLAD that you're featuring George Michael in this manner... He doesn't get the attention he deserves for his talent and unbelievable vocal control.😇
It's still such a loss to his fans that he's no longer with us. One of my favorite songs he did that showed his incredible voice was "They Won't Go When I Go", which was his version of Stevie Wonder's song. Such an amazing talent that we lost.
I always thought he sounded so real and expressive, but this just cements in how his sharp technical abilities allowed that emotion to come through in an infinitely memorable way
I know I have already made a comment on George, but I would like to thank the guy who is doing the analysis of George’s voice. Fantastic job I really appreciate this.
His live stadium performance of One More Try for Princess Diana speaks for itself. Listening to his recording and live is indistinguishable, combined with effortless power and range. Once in a millennium singer.
This song...Though GM has always been one of my fave singers I can't listen to this one very often. It has always stirred my soul. The loves that I have lost and the distress of losing them. It all comes back.
The night he died, I was listening to the radio and the DJ was a friend of his. You could hear his voice crack when he announced George's death. He played one of his songs and when it ended, another DJ came on and said that the earlier DJ was a good friend and that he had to leave for the evening. The music world is a small place and hearing that DJ say that the man who was spinning the tunes earlier was heart broken and had to leave really made George's death real. I remember I cried hearing the DJ announcing his friend's death and how broken up he was.

He had golden vocal chords. Just a liquid sound, pure emotion, and a gift of phrasing. Sadly missed.
I had the pleasure of seeing him in concert in Dublin years ago and while he had a brilliant tight band, it was his voice that dominated his performance and especially when he sang a Capella, it was just glorious. Such a huge loss to music.
Yes. He was all things golden. hair, skin, and that voice 💛💛💛 perfection
George Michael's voice is on top of human voices ever, along with Freddie Mercury and Whitney Houston.
Alison Kraus deserves to be included in that list of one of the best voices ever. I'm not a country fan at all but I have to say that her voice is as close to an angel's voice as I have ever heard in all my years.
Yes
And Steve Perry
And Karen C., cannot leave out a list of greatest voices without her. But George's voice is divine and he rules as a "crooner". Listen to the Frank Sinatra-eaque "Kissing a Fool".
❤
There’s not enough adjectives in the dictionary to describe how utterly amazing George Michael was. He was such a troubled soul, yet that NEVER affected his performances.
I absolutely adored him ❤
I love tortured souls. There is so much going on that we know nothing about. For me it is beautifully poetic.
George Michael is the best! Period
Glad I checked him out. Having been raised in the IBLP/duggar cult tv, film, net, radio, school....all banned so there is a signifacant whole in my cultural knowledge.
Him and Freddie I agree....you can't say anyone had a better voice than those two..
This man should have been in tbe HALL OF FAME❤🎉
PERIOD!!!!
2023
I JUST LOVED HIM, PERIOD!!!!❤
STILL SO SHOCKINGLY MISSED, PERIOD.
HIS VOICE AND EMOTION WAS JUST TANGIBLE TO THE POINT THAT HE BARED HIS SOUL❤XXX
2023❤
He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in 2003.
He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in 2003.
No vocal gymnastics with George. He was a pure, pitch perfect singer.
This, my friends, is why George Michael is being nominated for the rock and roll hall of fame. Go vote for him!
Loved this video. Thank you! 🙏
These days they recognise DJ’s, musicians, record label executives, songwriters, record producers,
Dolly Parton was nominated and didn’t think she deserved it because she wasn’t rock and roll.
Her nomination to be considered for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame followed the same process as all other artists who have been considered."
So maybe learn a little about the Hall of Fame and don’t say someone who worked so hard and had such amazing talent shouldn’t be considered for induction. Quite frankly it should have happened before he died.
@@jerrodmcdaniel2043 showing your misunderstanding of the rock and roll hall of fame, well done.
@@plawl05a punctuation too 😂
@@jerrodmcdaniel2043t's a music hall of fame. Maybe they should change the name. But it's a club and they refuse certain people making them irrelevant to many
Greatest singer songwriter who ever walked on earth. There won't be another GM
Come on. John and Paul were better.
@@Thomas-xs2kqthey were amazing songwriters, but not the best singers. I love John and Paul very much, but I just can’t claim they were super high calibre singers.
Hi Fil, what a lovely analysis of George's vocal on the Parkinson show 1998. I was playing bass with him from 1996 to 2012 and this performance is my favourite of his on UA-cam. It is an astounding vocal, he was an astounding man. SW
Wow, working with him must have been amazing.
Was he as kind as they say?
He has always been one of my favorite vocalists. No faking, real, live all of it. One of the best voices in history.
George's vibrato is so measured and controlled. It fits the emotional tone of the song.
George Michael's talent is eternal. He had a truly unique voice, and a perfectionist, yet he made it all seem sound effortless. His death still hits me, seven years later. 💔
Some people are just born to sing.
From an 80’s metal head, George was incredible. Always loved his voice.
George Michael had such a gorgeous voice. The use of the pitch monitor shows what a gem he really was. Thank you, Fil, for this very thorough analysis of a great voice taken far too soon.
Absolutely beautiful voice! The only person who could sing a Freddie song very well indeed!
@@Ian.Does.Fitness Adam Lambert also does a fantastic job and is an amazing singer in his own right.
NOw that you have analyzed it you should play it all the way through for us to listen to just his voice.
Please ❤
My favorite performance is when he shared the stage with Elton John singing Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me. Chills.
Mine too!
I was there
George had the voice of an angel.
R. I. P. 😌😔
So many ways to describe George’s voice, airy, bold, controlled, comforting. There just aren’t enough words to convey its beauty. Thanks Fil.
You just described everything i would have said about George Michael. 👍🏼
I agree honestly I can only listen to his Christmas song last Christmas because there’s no way to cover it good enough and it’s been covered by a few artists. Also his vocals are amazing.
My heart still hurts thinking of him. His voice was gorgeous. This song means a lot to me.
The only singer that could bring chills to my body. Such pure sound. Absolutely beautiful. I was gutted when he passed. The world needed him.
Kissing a fool !!
While absolutely agree with your sentiment, but have a listen of John Farnham singing his cover of the Beatles' Help.
The man was a class act and I miss him
This has made me miss George more than ever.
Isolating the vocals makes the song sound like a hymn. His voice was a gift to us all. Enough to move you to tears.
Agree. Very much like a hymn. Beautiful. Miss him so much.
Thank you for analyzing my favorite George Michael song!
I fee the same
@@ricardoe4215 I'm listening to him right now.
Exactly how I describe George's voice. Touches my soul like no other ❤
George Michael was one of the most underrated singers, musicians and songwriters in history - despite being a global star.
That's what I keep telling ppl all the time... he was crazy talented. Amazing vocalist, beautiful voice.
Just sublime. George had the most gorgeous voice. I was a fan from Wham! days and I'm so glad I had a chance to see him live. We lost his incredible talent far too soon, just four days after I lost my own dear father.
I’m first and foremost a heavy metal guy, but George has always been one of my favourite singers.
The best and also a beautiful individual!
wonderful, no music needed just that voice
I was devastated when I heard that he had died. 😢 I couldn’t listen to his music for months. 🙁His voice is so beautiful! 😇
I saw him live in Copenhagen and was so impressed by his voice. There was almost no difference between live performance and studio recordings. He was just next level. Sadly missed.
His voice was perfection to me.
George's versions of the long and winding road and i cant make you love me are two that demonstrate his amazing beautiful perfect vocal ability. Just stunning. No one comes close to him!
You are so right. Those two songs as well as this one George sang to perfection.
Not only truly phenomenal singing but he also wrote his own songs for the most part. Truly an icon and one that doesn't really exist that much anymore.
Wrote, arranged and produced.
And BTW recorded playing most of the instruments on some tracks
His voice is the nearest thing to angelic I've ever heard, as a life long fan I can honestly say every single time I listen to him it's just like being enveloped by a velvet cloak, his voice literally shimmers
That is the best breakdown of George Michael's voice I've ever heard. George Michael had such a fine voice.
Wow! It’s amazing to hear his voice without music! Just stunningly beautiful!
I feel like there could be a semester long vocal class on just George Michael singing one song.
I was talking to a friend about George Michael and I said he had the voice of an Angel, he was so special and an incredible talent. Also a very giving man, as was reported by many after he passed away. May he forever Rest in Peace.
George Michael had one of the most amazing voices of all time!
He was just amazing. His voice was absolutely gorgeous.
Hurts my heart that he’s gone. 💔🙏🏻
Legendary George Michael will officially be inducted into " The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame " November 2023!!! ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥👏👏👏
So deserved ! ❤❤
No wonder it is so pleasant so soothing so addictive listening to any and all of George's song. There are precise science to his every tune, every breathe drawn to each word.... oh how we lost the best soulful vocal the world has ever been gifted to enjoy
George had a great natural voice, he made it look so easy, what a tragic loss of his life and talent🥺
God bless George. What an absolute talent. I was gutted when he passed but grateful for the music he left us with.
Another amazing singer that has to hold the mic away from his mouth to get balance. Beautiful! He is missed. Thanks Fil!❤
It’s the greatest love song ever written, bar none. He was a proper superstar. I loved him.
I cried so when he died, he was so beautiful and talented. I wish he could have experienced more happiness. The greatest modern male vocalist
George voice has an amazing tone. He puts everything into his songs, feeling. George doesn't need a group, he is one of a kind. A big loss to the world, in everyway, as a singer, songwriter and human being. They don't come any better than George Michael
his voice was incredible
Wow, my body lit up with chills listening to this. He had an angelic voice so beautiful.
This is my absolute favourite. He just blows me away with this performance. It's perfection.
Don’t know anything about vocal technique but I always appreciated George Michael’s voice very much, he’s right there with the greatest voices of all time .
This song always brings me to tears, especially live. I miss him so much. Love you George. Xx
😪
Oh, yeah. Love this song. I don't care if this video goes on for years. It's heaven.
OMG Fil,
I am SO GLAD that you're featuring George Michael in this manner... He doesn't get the attention he deserves for his talent and unbelievable vocal control.😇
Spot on pitch and intonation, master of dynamics, beautiful tone, superb control, he was truly an excellent singer
He definitely has a gold set of vocal chords.
It's still such a loss to his fans that he's no longer with us. One of my favorite songs he did that showed his incredible voice was "They Won't Go When I Go", which was his version of Stevie Wonder's song. Such an amazing talent that we lost.
George tended to use the same backing singers and musicians throughout his career. That’s why everything is so tight in his live performances.
George Michael's voice is on top of human voices ever
I always thought he sounded so real and expressive, but this just cements in how his sharp technical abilities allowed that emotion to come through in an infinitely memorable way
I know I have already made a comment on George, but I would like to thank the guy who is doing the analysis of George’s voice. Fantastic job I really appreciate this.
I always enjoyed George’s voice but this takes it to outer space. So glorious and heavenly.
His live stadium performance of One More Try for Princess Diana speaks for itself. Listening to his recording and live is indistinguishable, combined with effortless power and range. Once in a millennium singer.
George Michael was such an amazing vocalist. He's other worldly.
This song...Though GM has always been one of my fave singers I can't listen to this one very often. It has always stirred my soul. The loves that I have lost and the distress of losing them. It all comes back.
When Freddie Mercury died the first person I thought of to replace him with George Michael. ,,,incredible voice,,one of the best,,
The night he died, I was listening to the radio and the DJ was a friend of his.
