I've seen this movie so many times, and this STILL brings tears to my eyes - such a spectacular performance by Barbra!! Still one of my all time favorites films.
I was there with friends when she filmed this. It was filmed on the campus of Arizona State University in Tempe (outside of Phoenix) and the tickets were FREE! Did you notice the camera stayed on her once she started singing? It was, in my opinion, a mesmerizing performance. See the film!
Critics Hated the Movie, but Audiences Ate it Up, and that’s ALL that MATTERS! Saw it 6 Times at the Show, seen her 6 Times in Concert! There will Never Be Another Like Her!👍
Critics: are like eunuchs at an orgy. They're there every time, they see it done but they can't do it themselves. I'm paraphrasing something I read years ago and can't remember the exact wording.
Yes and No. Audiences can be fickle, and led......and the critics were right about this: it WAS self-indulgent, though one can't deny Streisand's immense talents, esocially here in the finale.
Oh man I love this version of a Star is Born. I have seen all three but I have to say this was my favorite. Her voice is so so special and makes you feel so much. Watch them I don’t think you will be disappointed ✌❤ Great reaction 😀
@doughaviland1729 Live and ONE uninterrupted take. And I love that she used this take even though she sang the wrong lyrics. A true live performance. Spectacular.
The last song of the movie, “With One More Look/Watch Closely Now,” was filmed with Streisand singing live - “We filmed a lot of rock ’n’ roll kind of footage,” Streisand explained to Jamie Foxx at a Netflix FYSee event. She didn’t have time to edit the number before the preview, however. Instead, they ran the one camera, 7-plus-minute take. “The audience happened to love it,” she exclaimed. The preview audience survey cards trended toward “excellent.” “I thought ‘Uh oh,’ you know, ‘If it ain’t broken, don’t fix it,’” she said.
I fell in love with Barbra in September of 1971 and since then my love and respect for her has only grown. I was fortunate enough to see her 1994 Concert in Washington DC. It was a magical experience and her voice was absolutely perfect. Thank you, Saeed. for showcasing her!!!
Streisand is so singular! She was the Taylor Swift/Beyonce of her day as far as fame goes. The highest selling recording artist at the time and she NEVER TOURED during the height of her powers. Incredible!
What you just witnessed was the GOAT. Barbra is the one all female vocalists study and for good reason. There have been 4 versions of A Star Is Born filmed in 4 different generations and I recommend you watch her version with Kris Kristofferson it truly is the best and I guarantee you will love it.
Absolutely one of the most amazing voices of the 20th Century. I always end up amazed. This isn’t my favorite song, but omg that voice in any song, is jaw-dropping.
Love your reactions. Want an early fabulous live performance? 1963 Judy Garland show with a 21-year old Barbra singing "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered". She sings as if her voice is a violin.
Same here, I was 17 and watched this movie twice in one day. I saw one show and went right outside to buy a ticket for the next one and I probably would have watched another showing too if there`d been one.
I turned 18 in 1976. I saw this movie twice when it was in theaters. My favorite Barbra Streisand movie is "The Way We Were". It was 1973, & I turned 15 that year. I love Barbra Streisand's singing & acting. Sadly, I've never seen her in concert.
There are 4 versions of "A Star is Born". The first movie (1937) starred Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. The love story was set around two actors, one on the way up, and one on the way down. The second movie (1954) starred Judy Garland and James Mason. Judy on the rise as a singer/actress, and James on the way out as an actor. The third is Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. Barbra (Norma) a singer on the rise and Kris (John) a rocker on the way out (Kris is really a country music singer [ part of the Outlaws]). And the fourth you already know about. The soundtrack of the third movie vastly surpasses the other two (with singers involved). This scene is at the end if the movie and; the second song "Are You Watching Me Now" is John's #1 hit.
Great reaction. Barbra transitioned from a Pop song her newly dead husband wrote for her to his "signature" Rock song. It was a tribute only she could do. And acting through both.... Barbra is dedicated to her Art. She not only gives it her all. But also has so much to give. Thanks for your reactions. They are fun to watch.
This is a must-see movie. I was in high school when this movie was released in theaters, and my siblings and I saw it together. I went right out and bought the soundtrack at TOWER RECORDS, and I now have the CD of the same soundtrack.
I saw this song many times and still affects me emotionally because she does a stunning performance here. Her perfection is so natural and affective.. Her husband dies in the movies and this is after his death dedicated to him.. Great reaction... Watch the movie my friend..
This was a fantastic film, I watched it so many times when I was a teenager, couldn’t get enough of it . Thanks for reacting to this beautiful song. Another from this film is Evergreen, well worth a watch x
Love your Streisand reactions. Barbra insisted every song be performed live on this film. It was made by her production company so she called the shots. Her character is paying tribute to her deceased husband by singing one of his “rock” songs, “Watch Closely Now.” The first song was on a tape she found after her husband’s death so she combined the two songs. Very powerful performance. I remember watching and hearing the audience crying out loud in the theater. Another great live song from this film is “Woman In The Moon.” Her voice goes into the stratosphere on that one.
Well, I think you got pretty much the gist of this song from the other comments by now. She's incredible, right! I think you got that too. You just witnessed, what she loves to call, a three act play. It has a beginning, a middle and an end. Like you said, you can experience pretty much her entire character's arch right before your eyes in less than 10 minutes! Reviews were mixed on the screenplay and runtime, but praised its performances, live musical numbers and its musical score. Do you remember the famous movie critics, Siskel and Ebert? They both loved Barbra! Roger Ebert said, "There is, to begin with, no denying Barbra Streisand's enormous talent. At the end of 'A Star Is Born' the camera stays on her for one unbroken shot of seven or eight minutes, and she sings her heart out, and we concede that she's one of the greatest stars of the movies, one of the elemental presences." It was a huge box office success and became the 2nd highest-grossing film that year. It won one Oscar, five Golden Globes, and two Grammy's. You gotta see this film! The album was also very successful, holding the number-one spot on the US Billboard 200 chart for six weeks and eventually was certified 4× Platinum by the RIAA in the U.S. for more than four million units shipped and 8x Platinum for selling a total of eight million copies worldwide. "Evergreen (Love Theme from A Star Is Born)", music by Barbra and lyrics by Paul Williams, was released as the album's lead single and became Streisand's second US number one single, spending three weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and six weeks atop the Easy Listening Chart. It won two Grammy's for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female and Song of the Year, and Best Original Song at the Golden Globes and the Academy Awards, making Streisand the first female composer to win an Oscar for Best Original Song!
Thanks for taking the time to share this. I do remember those critics. I used to read their reviews a lot. This sure felt like a three act structure and a story within a greater narrative. Definitely want to see the film.
I am a big Barbra's fan. I have seen this movie 7 times and this ending always hypnotizes me, can't take my eyes off the image in front of me. But it wasn't until I actually lost my partner few years ago that I really understood the scene, and how wonderful her representation of grief was.
This is one of my favorite Babs performances. The emotion and powerful vocals she displays at the end is out of this world. A few other good songs from the movie A Star is Born are Evergreen, Lost Inside of You, Everything and Woman in the Moon.
This was the best movie! It was made prior to this by Judy Garland & again afterwards, with Lady Gaga. To me, this was the best version & Barbra is amazing in it. This is a clip at the end of the movie. You must see it. Outstanding performances by her and Kris Kristofferson. The last song was his hit in the movie.
Saaed anything you choose is going to be amazing. Every single time she sings it is as close to perfection as possible. Please listen from the movie Yentl . " A Piece of Sky" and check out the note held at the end. You will not believe your ears.
This is a tour de force! I'm also very partial to "Queen Bee" (soundtrack version) and "Woman in the Moon," also from this film. I guess that's why this popped up. Glad you enjoyed. Barbra is the best!
In 2018 Lady Gaga Version came out. Right before it came out, Netflix had the 1976 Version that had been re-edited by Barbra Streisand. There is an extended scene with Kris and she re-edited the Finale. Where there were different angle shots. After it left Netflix for a time they showed it on Max, but the version you reacted to is the one we saw in theatres in Dec 1976. A Star is born was still in Theaters in August of 1977, because I took my mom to see it. This was a very popular film in the mid seventies, and was one of the first to be put on home video when that (VHS/Betamax)came out around 1980. Cheers.
There have been 4 versions of the movie "A Star Is Born." Most critics agree that the best version is the second version, which is the 1954 film starring Judy Garland and James Mason, and directed by George Cukor. You should react to Judy Garland's scene in the movie in which she sings "The Man That Got Away." Time wrote that Garland "gives what is just about the greatest one-woman show in modern movie history." Jack Moffitt of The Hollywood Reporter described the film as "the perfect blend of drama and musical-of cinematic art and popular entertainment". He furthermore felt "the entire success of the picture depends upon the fact that Judy really has it." When the Oscar for Best Actress went to Grace Kelly instead of Garland, Groucho Marx sent Garland a telegram reading: "Dear Judy, this is the biggest robbery since Brink's." Judy Garland did win the Golden Globe award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, and James Mason won the Golden Globe award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy.
Dude you chose the perfect vid, and performance (imo), anyone could see of her. (Or were super freaking lucky😅) She was grieving here. Even in her anger, she turned to wipe her tears. If you ever see HER "A Star Is Born", you'll know why I say this. Her costar, Kris Kristofferson was also spectacular. I'm about to cry, just anticipating watching this. Coz I've watched the film so many times. Hope it touched you even half as much as it always does me. The emotion from her is staggering in this. ❤
Btw, Her "A Star Is Born" is best for several reasons. First off, she's incredibly sexy and so was Kris. But they also had fantastic chemistry. My goodness. 😏
@@SaeedReacts. oh I hope you do!! They're both spectacular. I promise. ♡ Ps. I swear I usually never talk this much in the comments. I too love film. And def her.
My favorite from A Star Is Born is "Woman In The Moon" and she follows it with "I Believe In Love". Definitely look at the movie videos. She's incredible.
This Barbara and Kris '76 movie is the absolute best version, in my opinion! 🌹🔥 It came out when my First son was born. In the day movies were 5.00 and I was poor, but my friend and I went to see it over 20 times. That was a fortune to us I've seen it probably over to 100 times since then and not I want to watch it again. Not too many movies can do that... Lol it still rips my heart out. THANKS ❣️
There are 4 versions of A Star Is Born.. #1. 1937 with Janet Gay or and Frederick March. #2. 1954 with Judy Garland and James Mason. #3. .1976 with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. #4. 2018 with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. I'n my opinion, the '76 version with Streisand is the best version. Each remake brings the story into present times. Each remake also brings new songs. "Evergreen", sung by Streisand from A Star is Born ( video with Kris) is an absolute must.to react to. "Somewhere" is another Streisand video to watch -"No More Tears/Enough is Enough" (extended version) is a must listen to duet sung by Barbra and Donna Summer "Guilty" is a duet with Barbra and Barry Gibb ( from the Bee Gee's)
IMO the best version of the film, A Star is born and I've sen all four, although the Judy Garland version comes a close second. Another powerful movie about the life of a rock star with amazing acting and vocals is Bette Midler's "The Rose".
this is why its so hard to say who is THE GOAT. there are many today who say this person or that is the goat but have never heard of or given babs the chance. the moral of the story is there are many goats at different times. enjoy them all.
The last song Watch Closely Now was her now deceased husband’s most popular song … in the movie she sings it in concert after his death. She is amazing .
If you are curious enough, you should watch celine Dion (her wellknow fan) sing that same song on her comeback live after Rene"s passing... Master and trainee they both perform thta song about the same age so you can compare voices and story telling... ;)
I love your reactions. I love this project. I never watched the movie. I only played the record. Over. And over. And over again. I loved every song on this album. And it really is the only Barbra Streisand work that I just bathed in. I really enjoyed the movies that she's been in and I respect her talent immensely. But this project was special this songs went soul deep
She takes Kris' song from early in the movie, and puts her spin on it. "Are You Watching Me Now". As a tribute to him. Look up Kris Kristofferson, and you'll see the extent of his talent. His reach. So many major singers have performed his songs. And he's also a part of "Outlaw Country". Only subgenre of country that I fully enjoy. Ie. Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams Jr.... He's badass.
With one more look at you/ Watch Closely Now (not are you watching me now). This was the finale in the movie, her husband has just died. She is Esther Hoffman and husband is John Norman Howard. Right before this song, the announcer introduces her for the first time, taking her husbands name. Ladies and gentlemen, Esther Hoffman Howard… so she begins singing a new song, With one more look at you, and then she segue into her husband’s signature song which is Watch Closely Now. Her husband was a rock singer and now she sings his song in his style. She did this in one long take absolutely live.
After Celine Dion's husband passed away, she sang this medley her first night back on stage in Las Vegas. It's very emotional. She struggles a bit early, but the audience helps her through it. It's on UA-cam.
Being a Céline Dion fan too, how I cried in front of my screen that night. When I learned she was going to sing this, I was done... That was the perfect song to sing for her that night. 💔
I did not know that. How incredibly brave of Celine. She literally "lived" the song. What an amazing way to confront grief and to do so in such a public manner. Huge props to her!
There have been 4 versions of "A Star is born" Barbra's was the best. It's a must watch. The songs are all top notch, great sound track. Check out the "woman in the moon" and "Evergreen". She won an Oscar for "Evergreen" best song.
You really need to see this movie!! This is an extremely emotional performance...not only for the performer but for the audience as well. Without the movie for context, it loses something. Please see this version with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson first, then the one with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. 😉 You might want to react to "Evergreen" which is another wonderful performance by Barbra from this movie. There were just so many wonderful songs!
Another great reaction! I sat in the theater crying my eyes out when this first came out.... This is the best version of the movie and the song by a LONG shot... I had the soundtrack and played it over and over again. When I heard Lady Gaga was taking this on, I was very dubious, but I figured if anyone could pull off the character, it probably was her. She was not bad. I dismissed Bradley Cooper out of hand. I am not a fan and I didn't buy him in the role of John Norman Howard at all...
There are three musical versions of the film: 1954/Judy Garland; 1976/Barbra; 2018()/Gaga. The first version of ASIB was in 1937, a nonmusical. Garland is best.
Barbra Streisand's first album was released in February of 1963, so that was over 60 years ago. However, her first professional engagement was at the Bon Soir night club in September 1960 as the opening act for comedian Phyllis Diller. So, that was almost 64 years ago. (That was about a month after I was born, so I remember it well. 😉 ) Streisand's first television appearance was on The Tonight Show in April 1961. She sang Harold Arlen's "A Sleepin' Bee". During her appearance, Phyllis Diller, also a guest on the show, called her "one of the great singing talents in the world." Later in 1961, Streisand became a semi-regular on PM East/PM West, a TV talk/variety series hosted by Mike Wallace and Joyce Davidson. Although she was in some earlier theater productions, her first big break on Broadway was playing Miss Marmelstein in the musical "I Can Get It For You Wholesale" which opened in March of 1962. Streisand received a Tony Award nomination and a New York Drama Critic's prize for Best Supporting Actress for this role.
One of the greatest vocal performances ever captured on film. It is mesmerizing, touching and powerful, as only Barbra could deliver.
Thank you for appreciating this incredibly talented woman giving her heart and soul. This was savaged by the critics at the time.
From the movie the Star is Born, this was the best version. She sang this after her husband died.
Full body goosebumps
This song is absolutely beautiful! Especially if you watch the movie.
her courage to overcome even tho she is afraid is what most of us i believe to learn. my favorite singer and one of my favorite people!
All the singing on A Star Is Born was done live NO lip syncing done here. Great movie 🎥🍿 watch it Saeed 👍

@doughaviland1729 Live and ONE uninterrupted take. And I love that she used this take even though she sang the wrong lyrics. A true live performance. Spectacular.

Cheers.
There have been 4 versions of the movie "A Star Is Born."
Most critics agree that the best version is the second version, which is the 1954 film starring Judy Garland and James Mason, and directed by George Cukor.
You should react to Judy Garland's scene in the movie in which she sings "The Man That Got Away."
Time wrote that Garland "gives what is just about the greatest one-woman show in modern movie history." Jack Moffitt of The Hollywood Reporter described the film as "the perfect blend of drama and musical-of cinematic art and popular entertainment". He furthermore felt "the entire success of the picture depends upon the fact that Judy really has it."
When the Oscar for Best Actress went to Grace Kelly instead of Garland, Groucho Marx sent Garland a telegram reading: "Dear Judy, this is the biggest robbery since Brink's."
Judy Garland did win the Golden Globe award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, and James Mason won the Golden Globe award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy.
Saw this one. Not a dry eye in the house
Dude you chose the perfect vid, and performance (imo), anyone could see of her. (Or were super freaking lucky😅)
She was grieving here.
This performance took me on an emotional journey. Stunning!
Definitely want to watch the film.
@@SaeedReacts. oh I hope you do!! They're both spectacular. I promise. ♡
Ps. I swear I usually never talk this much in the comments. I too love film. And def her.
My favorite from A Star Is Born is "Woman In The Moon" and she follows it with "I Believe In Love". Definitely look at the movie videos. She's incredible.
awesome.
I got drug to this movie when I was in the 5th grade. Glad that I was.
THANKS ❣️
Wow! You will never forget that day 😃. Thanks so much for sharing that.
I’ve never seen any of the movies, she can act, sing, basically just about anything
"Somewhere" is another Streisand video to watch
-"No More Tears/Enough is Enough" (extended version) is a must listen to duet sung by Barbra and Donna
Summer
"Guilty" is a duet with Barbra and Barry Gibb ( from the Bee Gee's)
Gaynor. Thanks for the essay. :)
IMO the best version of the film, A Star is born and I've sen all four, although the Judy Garland version comes a close second.
Another powerful movie about the life of a rock star with amazing acting and vocals is Bette Midler's "The Rose".
Its on my watchlist. Hope i can find it on one of the streamingplatforms.
this is why its so hard to say who is THE GOAT. there are many today who say this person or that is the goat but have never heard of or given babs the chance. the moral of the story is there are many goats at different times. enjoy them all.
The last song Watch Closely Now was her now deceased husband’s most popular song … in the movie she sings it in concert after his death. She is amazing .
Great reaction!
Thank you!
Okay, now you have to go back and watch the movie. It is really good. Lots of really good songs. You will then understand the setting of this song.
it was a good movie
If you are curious enough, you should watch celine Dion (her wellknow fan) sing that same song on her comeback live after Rene"s passing... Master and trainee they both perform thta song about the same age so you can compare voices and story telling... ;)
I love your reactions.
I love this project. I never watched the movie. I only played the record. Over. And over. And over again. I loved every song on this album. And it really is the only Barbra Streisand work that I just bathed in. I really enjoyed the movies that she's been in and I respect her talent immensely. But this project was special this songs went soul deep
This is amazing. What a journey! Thanks so much for watching.
I only know him from the Blade films, but i know he was a musician first. Definitely need to explore his music.
Thanks for taking the time to share this. Much appreciated.
In the same year she produced the Classical Album
"Classical" was recorded 1973 but not released until 1976.
@@wmg93 O thanks.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
After Celine Dion's husband passed away, she sang this medley her first night back on stage in Las Vegas. It's very emotional. She struggles a bit early, but the audience helps her through it. It's on UA-cam.
Will look it up. Thanks for sharing!
You might want to react to "Evergreen" which is another wonderful performance by Barbra from this movie. There were just so many wonderful songs!
I definitely want to watch it. Hope i can find it on one of these streaming platforms.
@SaeedReacts. It's available for rent on Amazon.
😪❤
Check out Barbara and Barry Gibb...ya know the Bee Gee
" Woman in Love" and "Guilty".
❤
I believe those are on my list. Thanks for the recommendations.
@@SaeedReacts.💯✌️
THIS WAS A LIVE VOCAL. ALL SCENES OF SINGING IN THE MOVIE WERE RECORDED LIVE. NO DUBBING.
I definitely want to see this version of the film. Will add it to my "movie night list" 😄
Thanks so much for watching.
Evergreen, with Kris Kristofferson from the same movie is a great clip to review , so beautiful
I posted a reaction to it yesterday.
At least 4 versions
SPOILER ALERT - Barbra didn't start quietly because of stage fright, but rather "Esther" was shell shocked by grief.
Check out "I believe in love" from the same movie. Wonderful!
Thanks for the recommendation.
The great Paul Williams wrote the lyrics.
There are three musical versions of the film: 1954/Judy Garland; 1976/Barbra; 2018()/Gaga. The first version of ASIB was in 1937, a nonmusical. Garland is best.
Now tell me if any female with a microphone ever even came close to what she just did. * mic drop *
4:20 It hit you.
Are you in love with her yet? 😄😊
Wow! That was simply mindblowing!
This was my fav from the movie....just fantastic. Too bad she's a Trumo hater😢
Great song!
Streisand's first television appearance was on The Tonight Show in April 1961. She sang Harold Arlen's "A Sleepin' Bee". During her appearance, Phyllis Diller, also a guest on the show, called her "one of the great singing talents in the world."
Later in 1961, Streisand became a semi-regular on PM East/PM West, a TV talk/variety series hosted by Mike Wallace and Joyce Davidson.
You need to watch the movie. Kris Kristofferson and her in A Star is Born 1976. Give yourself a gift.
Will do! Movie night with my wife 😄
