Great song! Barbra Streisand is one of the true mega stars. She has spanned over 6 decades of music. This lady has a fabulous voice & can sing many genres of music. She is a singer, actress & filmmaker & one of the few performers to have received awards in multiple fields of entertainment (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar & Tony). Love the musicals she was in especially "Funny Girl" & "Hello Dolly". She has so many great songs that were hits & she has done numerous duets with famous people.
One reason Barbra has endured is that she never gives less than her all when singing, no matter what the genre of music. When she commits to a song, she goes full out, whether it's something dramatic like "Memory" or fun like "The Main Event."
Hard to believe there's a whole generation that doesn't know Barbra Streisand. She is truly one of the all time greats. To really appreciate Barbra you should see her first film, Funny Girl. She won the Oscar, tied with Katharine Hepburn.
This is the famous song from the long running Broadway musical, 'Cats'. You were just introduced to one of the greatest singers the world has ever known. She became supremely popular in the early 60's when her recording of 'People' stunned musical audiences near and far.
An absolutely amazing catalogue of big hits. Also an accomplished actress. I'm 79 and my crush on Barbra started when I first saw her at the theater in "A Star is born" with Kris Kristofferson. She burrowed into my heart and never left.
Song is from the musical "Cats", by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Trevor Nunn. Arguably one of the most over-recorded songs ever, La Streisand elevates it - as she does everything she sings - and makes it new. There's a reason she's an icon - your smile says it all! Give a watch to any of her movies also, she's one hell of an actor.
I am amazed that a lot of people in the western, developed world, didn't know about Ms B. Streisand . I am from a Melanesian island, and I, and my classmates in highschool, in the 80s listened, and enjoyed Ms Streisand's music, performance etc... , just watching her shows on betamax, or VHS 😁...... Anyone out there " feel" me?? 😂😂😂
Honey... you ain't heard nothing yet! Six decades of hit after hit after hit in just about every genre there is. Can't wait to see more reactions of Barbra by you, and I'm subscribing.
This song was originally written for a musical called "Cats" (1981) where all actors play different cats dressed as cats. "Memory" is sung by an old cat ("Grizabella") that remembers her glamorous days as a young and beautiful cat and now waits for one last new dawn to come for her. In the original version Elaine Paige sings the part of "Grizabella". Barbra Streisand sings it more from a human's perspective as we can see in the video. I like both versions. In our school choir we sang this song, too. But I think you can forget about that. 😸
What always fascinated me about Streisand is with all she can do with her voice there is no strain - it’s effortless even six octaves up! God was showing off with her voice.
Babs is an icon. And she's a wonderful actor as well. I swear I must've been the only Black teenage kid in my neighborhood watching Barbara Streisand movies. She will expand your world. Keep exploring.
Barbara is an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony winner), singer extraordinaire, writer, actress, director…Icon! Shes a native New Yorker like me. Memory is from the play Cats. I’ve seen it several times. Memories is a great song from the Broadway play Cats. I’ve seen it about 6 times. Andrew Lloyd Webber composed the music for the song "Memory" from the 1981 musical Cats, and Trevor Nunn wrote the lyrics. The lyrics are based on poems by T.S. Eliot, including "Rhapsody on a Windy Night". ❤❤
This is a rabbit hole you must go down. Her solo stuff is amazing and some of her duets are OFF THE CHARTS. Check out Enough is Enough with Donna Summer and Guilty with Barry Gibb...so many

Including the hauntingly beautiful them from the tattooist of Auschwitz, my favourite’s of hers are woman in love, guilty with Barry gibbs, and you don’t bring me flowers with Neil Diamond
Barbra StReisand is an Oscar, Tony, and grammy winning actress and singer. She has a huge catalog of beautiful and fun songs. The song is from the Broadway musical Cats.
Barbra Streisand. A singer with a beautiful voice that gives you goosebumps and makes your heart skip a beat. And a wonderful actress, I watched the film with her participation "Funny Girl" many times, and always with pleasure. And I think this performance of "Memory" is the best. A huge thank you for the delight and the tears that I felt when I heard it now. It was wonderful.
Such a beautiful voice. She played a starring role in the 1976 version of A Star is Born with Kris Kristofferson. The soundtrack to which I played over and over. She is amazing both vocally and her acting performance in it. A very talented lady. Love her voice so much ❤
She is simply doing what she does best, she is acting via the power of music. She is so evocative, that is what makes her voice...and delivery.... so special. Check out her version of Somewhere!!!!!
For a two-fer, check out her duet with Judy Garland on Judy’s tv show of the early ‘60s. They sing “Happy Days Are Here Again” and “Get Happy,” and it is a glorious mix!
Listen to "A Piece of Sky" from Yentl, she holds the top note for 21 seconds at the end. Reports in the UK press at the time said she passed out whilst recording that song with the London Symphony Orchestra. She blasts it out and just holds on to it. Good Luck.
I cannot begin to describe how blessed I feel to have had Barbra's voice in my life my entire life. There are some things that just cannot be bought, and this incredible singer sharing her voice with us is one of those things. And I love that video as well - there's something about black and white film (which I also grew up with) that transports me to a very different time.
“Memory” is from the Broadway musical “Cats” by Andrew Lloyd Webber. “Memory” is considered by many to be his greatest ballad. Re Barbra, if I could’ve accomplished 3% in my life that she’s accomplished, I’d feel successful. She’s first a virtuoso vocalist, then actor, director, producer, and composer. She’s also been married to actor James Brolin for many years. What a talent, what greatness-it’s been an honor to live in her time
Probably one of the best female voices She's one of those people pick anything it a winner / banger Music royalty in her own time has lost of power as well It's another rabbit hole and many great singer are connected with her through family Cheers mate 🦘🇦🇺👍
You should watch the musical. Cats might be old but even me that is quite young (36) have heard it, and i actually enjoyd it. There is another musical called chess, it also has some amazing songs in it. Chess was actually written by tim rice, benny andersson and bjorn ulvaeus from abba. 😊 love this song btw
She is singing a song from the famous play called Cats. The play debuted in 1981. I think the actress Elaine Paige was the first to sing it on stage. The character sings about her prime, her youth, a happier past, and how it’s all a memory. She urges the other cats to rid her loneliness and to let her feel accepted once again-to be happy.
I've always loved this song and this version. (It's not "her" song -- it was first sung by Elaine Paige in the On-Broadway stage play of Cats). Enjoyed your reaction. Barbara's voice is just perfect for this type of song.
My mom first saw her in a little club in NY in the 60s. Bigfan here and I'minmy 70's. I have listened to her music everyday of my life. When I die I want to be listening to Streisand. She will take me to heaven.
Let's not forget Ray Charles, Judy Garland, Willie Nelson, Vince Gill, Kris Kristofferson, Kim Carnes, Mary J Blige, Frank Sinatra, Bryan Adams, Stevie Wonder, Michael Buble, Baby Faceface, Andrea Bocelli... and all the other names that would add up to a total of 47! 😮😊
Your reaction was so interesting and also accurate!! Regarding the section you paused, I’d call it her interpretative skill, in addition to possibly the finest pop vocalist our country has ever produced. Yes, I’m an avid fan 😀
You are so right. Super reaction thank you. When Barbara Streisand sings the last part with dawn beginning and her voice soars my tears flowed..it always does on this particular song by her. No surprise that she has won every award there is, not that awards are that important when a voice can move and take your heart to a place that i cannot really describe but know exists on some heavenly plane. Thank you again
Trivia. The track is part of a collection called "Memories" which released in November 1981. As a single, it was not a commercial success as it was very somber for pop radio. "Memory" is from the Broadway show "Cats" that did not open until ca a year after this album came out. After the show opened, the "Memories" album returned to the Billboard album charts for another 69 weeks based on the buzz of this performance.
Great reaction! Barbra is the Best! I can't believe this is the first song you've heard from her, being one of the greatest and most complete artists! Greetings from Tandil, Argentina! 🇦🇷🤗
Too many songs to name. She is one in a million. Weird for some maybe, but listen to "Papa, Can You Hear Me," from the movie Yentel. Gorgeous and moving.
This song was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber for the stage play Cats. He didn't even like the movie version. This is a very difficult song to sing and she sings it beautifully and with such ease.
I have a recommendation for you - you have heard Barbra sing "Memory" from the stage production of "Cats". I strongly suggest you view the You Tube video of Barbra singing from the movie "The Way We Were" the theme song by the same movie title "The The Way We Were'' the song Barbra sang that became known as the original "Memories" - two entirely different songs - both sung beautifully by perhaps the greatest female singer ever Barbra Streisand.
Unfortunately when reactors first discover Barbara it's usually this song(from cats) and somewhere from west side story.don't get me wrong she does a fab job of them obvs but they're not hers they're covers. Another two songs they may hit first are guilty with barry gibb or woman love with Kris Kristofferson from the 3rd version of a star is born. Which are hers. Please do. Oh, Steven! It's been so long since I've watched and listened to Barbra sing! Sitting here hearing her voice once again, I immediately got chills all over, and started crying (happy tears). Delicious! I don't react that way to huge numbers of singers, but there are a few. Dan Vasc is one of them. Tim Foust is another. Then there's Avi Kaplan. Joan Baez. Helen Reddy. Anne Murray. Keith Green. Harry Belafonte. Elvis Presley. Pat Boone. Tom Jones. (Little) Peggy March. Glen Campbell. Marty Robbins. Ernie Ford. There have been others here and there, but those are the biggies that hit me right away. Barbra...just WOW! OK...back to listening... This song ("Memory" -- written by Andrew Lloyd Webber, T.S. Eliot and Trevor Nunn was first performed by Elaine Paige in 1981). Barbra's cover of it was released on November 10, 1981. Before that, she had sung the song "The Way We Were," which was released on September 27, 1973. It too (more than this one, actually) features the way old memories color our lives. It's a GORGEOUS song, which was the theme song for the movie of the same name. I hope you'll search it out and react to it sometime, also. NOTE: I've looked down through the comments before mine, and I see that at least one person has mentioned that Barbra's career took a big hit, later in her life. I won't go into why, but I would suggest just simply enjoying her wonderful music, and leaving it at that. Thank you for the great reaction, Steven. GRANDMA HUGS!
@@GrandmasGotGraceLW So glad you enjoyed it Linda! She definitely has a phenomenal voice that moves the soul! Can’t wait to hear more from her! Have a great one! 😁
She is extraordinary. I have loved her as long as I can remember. I love her early albums from the 60s. I still have several on vinyl. Everything from her Funny Girl soundtrack, People, Don't Rain on my Parade, My Man. I love Stoney End. I am less enamored of the disco era.
The song "Memories" was written by Marvin Hamlisch and Alan & Marilyn Bergman and earned a 1973 Golden Globe for Best Original Song, a 1974 Oscar for Best Original Song and then a Grammy. She has been in quite a few movies but watching some of them would intrude on your reaction channel as she sings a lot of songs, but not all of her films were like that. For a good comedy film, catch Barbara Streisand in "What's Up, Doc?"
I watched What’s up doc not long ago. It’s really holds up for 70 movie. Ryan O’Neal and great cast of characters. It’s her best comedy movie. And she sings while on top of piano with her long hair flowing around her.Gorgeous!!One of the biggest stars of our time
Wonderful singer/performer. She does a disco song with Donna Summer called Enough is Enough. She sings the longest note I’ve ever heard. Worth checking out.
I was lucky enough to see the original Broadway cast of Cats back on a trip to NYC when I was 17. At the time I only knew Betty Buckley from Eight is Enough. Her Grizabella was absolutely heartbreaking, and by the end of this song I was amazed, and in tears. I turned to my sister, who was also crying, and said "Oh my GAWD, Abby from Eight is Enough made me cry!"
Do her video for “The Way We Were,” and watch the version of the movie that she stars in. It is one of my favorite movies. She also has some really great songs in her movie “Yentyl.”
Never have heard a bad song from her. With One More Look At You is an epic song (can't believe I forgot that) and Evergrern from A Star is Born and of course The Way We Were from movie of same title are almost perfect. Seriously gorgeous.
This is only one of her hundreds of songs that are so amazing and this song is from the play "Cats". In the darkness is the orchestra, which she only records with a full orchestra at all times. Starting out performing in musicals led her to always sign as if she is signing from a play and taking you through the emotions, which is how she sings all of her songs. She has over 100 albums.
Oh my goodness! Please do yourself a favor and check out more Babs. Singer, songwriter, actress, director, producer and broadway star. Oh, and her voice is one of the best ALL TIME!!!! Check out Evergreen, Woman in Love, No More Tears, Guilty, and on and on it goes!!!!!

Thanks for all the recommendations! Definitely have to look into more of her catalogue! Have a great day! 😁
@@setonhillstudios Thanks! I really enjoyed your reaction to this.
@@sallyatticum I’m so glad! She has such a beautiful voice!
Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Trevor Nunn based on TS Eliot. You're thinking of "The Way We Were."
I watched What’s up doc not long ago. It’s really holds up for 70 movie. Ryan O’Neal and great cast of characters. It’s her best comedy movie. And she sings while on top of piano with her long hair flowing around her.Gorgeous!!One of the biggest stars of our time
You should go listen to her first albums. So raw and AMAZING!
The GOAT
Wonderful singer/performer. She does a disco song with Donna Summer called Enough is Enough. She sings the longest note I’ve ever heard. Worth checking out.
Somewhere is another one you'll love!! My Man also!!
From the musical Cats.
The Cat singing is dying. Remembering when she was beautiful and young.
Incredibly sad and heartbreaking.
So emotionnal !
Do her video for “The Way We Were,” and watch the version of the movie that she stars in. It is one of my favorite movies. She also has some really great songs in her movie “Yentyl.”
Gives me chills every time !
An icon. Folks your age usually know her as Roz Focker...Ben Stiller's mom in Meet The Fockers.
Oh...that's right! I'd forgotten that. She never sang in that movie, but it was such a blast to see actors that we'd know from a decade earlier.
@@Gwennedd Indeed it was! It was great to see three cinematic giants of the 70s come together in the 00s and have fun together.
Never have heard a bad song from her.
With One More Look At You is an epic song (can't believe I forgot that) and Evergrern from A Star is Born and of course The Way We Were from movie of same title are almost perfect. Seriously gorgeous.
Thanks for the recommendations! Definitely such a beautiful voice and I cannot wait to hear more! ❤️

Isn't she so incredible?? Her voice is so iconic. She really is spectacular, love her so much. She has many many incredible songs too!! xx
Few are blessed with such of voice! You should also check out Lara Fabian.
Please react to Barbra song Papa can you hear me a piece of sky
This is only one of her hundreds of songs that are so amazing and this song is from the play "Cats". In the darkness is the orchestra, which she only records with a full orchestra at all times. Starting out performing in musicals led her to always sign as if she is signing from a play and taking you through the emotions, which is how she sings all of her songs. She has over 100 albums.
Goosebumps, baby! Goosebumps!!
No doubt about it! 💯
She did not write this. This song is from the Broadway play Cats. She was not in it. It is from her 24th album
That is so clearly an Andrew Lloyd Webber creation
The Broadway Album
One of the best
American Icon Singer/Actress
This beauty came out in 1981 & was used in the theatrical show 'Cat's'.
Such a great song! Thanks for the insight!
The GOAT!
