You will never hear a wrong note from Barbara. Her phrasing, timbre, dynamics and emotional content are always spot on. Check out her performance of "The Way We Were" from the movie of the same name. You statement about her making you long for a time you did not live through, is her special gift and this song delivers that longing in Spades
In my opinion, Barbra has the most beautiful tone of any artist, living or dead. She is magnificent. Thank you so much for your reaction and the memories. Peace and love.
In the musical, the cats have gathered together to choose one cat to get the prize of a new life. Every cat thinks that they are the only one worthy, and that the old cat isn’t worthy because of her age and undignified appearance. All she has left are her memories, nothing current to live for, her night is ending, the new day will be her last. But her song so moves the other cats that they all choose to award her with the prize, a new beginning. Her new day has truly begun.
Probably my favourite performance of Barbra's was her singing The Way We Were at the Oscars the year that her long time, multi Oscar winning collaborator Marvin Hamlish died. They both worked together for decades and were very close friends. I can't watch it without WEEPING! And it's already an emotional song from that movie with her and Robert Redford 😭 She also did a duet album a few years ago featuring duets with variety of actors... Some of who one would not think has such good voices, some not a surprise at all. Most of the duets are songs from musicals. She does duets with Antonio Banderas, Hugh Jackman, Chris Pine, Seth MacFarlane, Jamie Foxx (they frikking do Climb Every Moutain from The Sound of Music... It's INCREDIBLE), Melissa McCarthy, one with Anne Hathaway and Daisey Ridley, one with Patrick Wilson... It's such a good duet album 🥰
you got chills, i got tears, this song always makes me touched and crying sometimes, when i was a kid I'm not speaking english pretty well but i was in love with the melody of this song, now I'm adult and i speak English pretty decent, and i understand the lyrics, and I'm in love with the song even more, I'm so related, I miss the old days, now I'm a dirty person, the broken one, and I'm ruined, i wish i can turn back time and being the old me. but then i remember, there's always a new day and a new chance if we try to see it positively. for those out there dealing with a bad fortune of life, remember you are not alone, there's always someone else dealing with the worse situation, keep the spirit, being grateful is one of the keys.
Barbra sang so many different genres during her careeer, including this semi-operatic Andrew Lloyd Webber tune. She sparked disco fire with Donna Summer on "No More Tears (Enough is Enough)", growled to a rock undercurrent on "Prisoner", and joined Barry Gibb in making some glittering pop magic with "Guilty". Jazz standards, the Great American Song Book, R&B, gospel, country, and classical. She's joined over 45 other artists on duets. She still stands as the only recording artists to have #1 albums in six consecutive decades.
for six decades i have loved barbra! from 8 year old till a sixtynine year old ! i still get chils at times . you listening to them and sharing these make them fresh all over again for me! thanks so much! sharing music is something very near my heart! love you man!!!!
Hello Saeed, I know you love the voice of Barbra Streisand and, I love it too. One of the best female voices ever. I was lucky enough to saw Cats in New York in 1988, in my 20 years old. And, after, I saw Cats in 1998, in London, in my 30 years old. Cats was performed since 1981, till 2002. Elaine Paige, is the artist that performed the role of Grizabella (the prostitute cat), in London. Amazing. Despite, Barbra is awesome, this song belongs to Elaine Paige. Please react to her singing this song in the performance of Cats in London. She's acting ang singing. The emotion, the hurt, it's epic. Kiss. Ana
Barbra Streisand is an original for sure. There'll only be one, thank God I was alive to experience her incredible gifts. Actress, writer, producer, DIRECTOR, PHILANTHROPIST, BUT MOST OF ALL A BEAUTIFUL HUMAN BEING.💞
So awesome you're delving deeper into her songs. Don't stop until you've gotten to her material from "A Star is Born" and from "Yentyl". She only got greater with age. Fr. 🥂

This song was recorded by Barbra Streisand in 1981 for the album ‘Memories’ and was sung by her in the 1983 movie ‘Yentl’. It was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Trevor Nunn for the musical ‘CATS’ but I’m not sure about who recorded it first because the musical and the album were produced in the same year.
She is one of the greatest female singers we have in my opinion 😍 Remember when i was younger i used to have a crush on her stepson Josh Brolin from The young riders/Pony express ☺ Her son Jason is a good singer to 😊 Lots of talents in her family ♥

Hi Saeed, Barbara Streisand is and will always be absolutely magnificent in my eyes (ears). IMO the best vocalist of her generation - one of the very best vocalists of all time. Such a unique, elegant and powerful voice. Check out her version of "Somewhere" when you have time. Also, check out a young Lucy Thomas's version of this song (Memory) when you have time - will be curious to get your thoughts on it. Thx!
Excellent singer of all time and a timeless amazing song! I'm glad that you explore this kind of (classical) music. At first it seemed strange to me seeing you surprised as if it were the first time you heard this song or heard it by chance on the radio, but then I realize you are quite young and it's normal: this song is from the 80s.... The song definitely deserves to be in a playlist!! Thank you Saeed for sharing this one!
In fact, the 'memory' is you holding onto the moment. Because all we ever remember is the moment, the glimpses of that day 20 years ago, 50 years ago, and there is joy in embracing that it is yours to keep, and only yours.
There is definitely much beauty in that. I also believe its important to not always live in past moments, but be present in the present moment. Which is for me personally something i have been working on.
I remember watching an interview with Elaine Page ,who played the part in the stage production of the character that sings this song, and she said that the power needed to sing this required her to do voice exercises before belting this song out because if she didn't she could blow he voice box. You've just watched the incomparable Barbara Streisand sing it with such ease, what a voice.
My favourite female singer with Dion a close second. Both of them have perfect pitch and such emotional delivery. Streisand has perfect control of those quiet notes. This was a beautiful cover of Memories from Cats musical, of an aging cat reflecting on the time she was younger.
Wow! Haven't heard this song for decades. What a pleasure to the ears, the heart the soul. I found that I could remember nearly every word. Sublime!!!! Greetings from South Africa
I love your take on the meaning of the song, Saeed. ON POINT!!. Her voice cuts through to your soul. Therefore, goosebumps happen in response to her voice and those words. And you are absolutely right.. They don't make them like this anymore . Great reaction!! Hello to you and your family 😊❤
There are several female (and male) artists performing this song and it all comes to the finall'e with the "touch me, it's so easy to leave me...". I truly believe that Betty Buckley does it the best
The storyline of Cats is about a tribe of cats called the Jellicles who can make the choice of who can ascend to the Heavyside Layer and gain a new life. The part Barbra is singing is that of a very old cat hoping she will be chosen to have a whole new life. At the end of the play, she is chosen. It's a rather fun and interesting play and very well done. You might want to watch it soon.
My favorite Barbra songs are in my favorite movie of all time, based on a Broadway play - On a Clear Day You Can See Forever. She plays two characters, one being the ancestor of the main character. Both are psychic & both are free spirits, even if their personalities at first glance are very different.
There’s a quote from the movie avengers endgame Howard Stark is talking to his son Tony Stark through time travel The important thing is is that you probably are aware that Tony Stark is incredibly wealthy His father, not knowing who he is his father tell him “ no amount of money ever bought one second of time” Strong
If you want to hear the most amazing note held by Barbra, check out A Piece of Sky from the movie Yentyl which she starred in and directed. It's pre 1900's Jewish community thing, about women knowing their place and the men having the knowledge of the Word. Beautiful music, great songs and a lovely story but the finale song is EPIC!
You might like her in the seventies version of the movie, A Star is Born. She stars in it with Kris Kristofferson. She’s a movie star and singer with no equal. I just read her autobiography. It’s about 1,000 pages long. I’ve always admired her singing and her movies, songs etc. Her movie Funny Girl is a great story filled with great songs.
I definitely want to watch that film after reacting to a performance of it. I listened to her audiobook version of the book when it came out. Also narrated by her.
You will LOVE her song "A Piece of Sky" from the movie Yentl (which Streisand starred in and directed), please check it out, even if just for yourself 😊
You really need to do much more Barbra Streisand. I love your reactions, but you don’t do a lot of the songs that others do that I think you would really like. The real huge classics of the late 20th century. “Memory” is a very famous song and probably more famous than even the longest running Broadway play from which comes, Cats. Barbra did her Broadway album where she just covered many different huge Broadway hits and this was one of them. Another one was “Somewhere” from West Side Story. What other Streisand songs have you covered?
I have no idea what other songs reactors do, cause i just go by the stuff i want to hear really or what subscribers recommend. I just started my journey with Barbra Streisand so not many. There is a playlist on the channel with the reactions in it.
@@SaeedReacts. I should clarify what I meant is you don’t do a lot of the classics from the late 20th century, namely the 70s 80s and 90s. It looks like from your video list 95% are all from the 21st century. I’m not necessarily saying the exact same songs although that tends to have a lot. Still from your personality and appreciation I think you would be perfect for all those songs from Carpenters and Simon & Garfunkel, the Bee Gees and and Cat Stevens, etc. I’m talking about supergroups or artists that are so amazing and legendary that people of all ages, genders, races and nationalities look back and really enjoy. People who you think would have completely different tastes in music. You have excellent feedback with your appreciation and it shows as genuine, which is one reason why I subscribed.
you should do the og elaine paige from the y satge musical and see her in her cats costume. i like that you have the lyrics up so you don't miss anything. street lamps did sputter.picture it victorian london, horse drawn vehicles, cobble streets.the street lamps ran on gas.men had jobs to go around turn the gas on and light the top of the street lights closeing the glass lanterns.you would have sputtering naked flames to light your way.
Hi Saeed, If you are looking for one of the greatest male singers ever listen to Matt Monro. Sinatra said he was the best in the business and could hold a note for ages. Listen to ..I Have Dreamed and On Days Like These. A truly gifted singer.
You should really do some Barry Manilow He has a version of this song that he just crushes You also want to do even now Could it be magic? Trying to get the feeling
I grew up in NYC and have loved Barbra since I was 15 like 1962 when I heard her very first album. I saw Funny Girl 15 times on Broadway at the Winter Garden. OK saying that I feel free to say this is probably my least favorite song of hers. Very histrionic, typical Andrew Lloyd Weber. Barbra recorded other songs by him all better ones than this but none among my favorites for sure. On top of that, these dated music videos are so stale and can't compare with LIVE Barbra performances. Come on guys, search out some incredible performances like:: "You'll Never Walk Alone" tribute to 2001 9/11 victims, devastating: ua-cam.com/video/ozhWlm-EGbo/v-deo.html
Honestly, you haven't missed anything by not seeing CATS. The only song anyone knows from this musical is Memory. BTW Barry Manilow does a good version of the song also. There are some good acrobatics in the play, but overall, I didn't think it was worth seeing.
You will never hear a wrong note from Barbara. Her phrasing, timbre, dynamics and emotional content are always spot on. Check out her performance of "The Way We Were" from the movie of the same name. street lamps did sputter.picture it victorian london, horse drawn vehicles, cobble streets.the street lamps ran on gas.men had jobs to go around turn the gas on and light the top of the street lights closeing the glass lanterns.you would have sputtering naked flames to light your way.
Thats a visual! Will add that one to my list. Thanks for sharing.
@@SaeedReacts. No probs
Hi Saeed, If you are looking for one of the greatest male singers ever listen to Matt Monro. Sinatra said he was the best in the business and could hold a note for ages. Listen to ..I Have Dreamed and On Days Like These. A truly gifted singer.
Thanks for the recommendations!

You all better listen to the original artist who sung that song first: Elaine Paige!
Will add it to my list!
Barbra is best
I grew up in NYC and have loved Barbra since I was 15 like 1962 when I heard her very first album. I saw Funny Girl 15 times on Broadway at the Winter Garden. OK saying that I feel free to say this is probably my least favorite song of hers. Very histrionic, typical Andrew Lloyd Weber. Barbra recorded other songs by him all better ones than this but none among my favorites for sure.
On top of that, these dated music videos are so stale and can't compare with LIVE Barbra performances. Come on guys, search out some incredible performances like::
"You'll Never Walk Alone" tribute to 2001 9/11 victims, devastating:

Honestly, you haven't missed anything by not seeing CATS. The only song anyone knows from this musical is Memory. BTW Barry Manilow does a good version of the song also. There are some good acrobatics in the play, but overall, I didn't think it was worth seeing.
I heard similar sentiments from other people. Definitely want to hear some other versions of this song as well.
Thanks for watching.
I much prefer the original versions of this song by Elaine Paige, from Cats itself, like this one: ua-cam.com/video/mdBVJbzkoqo/v-deo.html
