LFR FAMILY Iron Maiden - Alexander the Great if you want a little HipHop vibe in Heavy Metal 🤘🤘UpTheIrons🤘🤘
If you didn’t do Metallica - One it’s a good song. Sometimes I’d play it before or after a mission when I was in Iraq. I’d play Drowning Pool - Bodies before a mission.
Chris Clark What’s up Big Dawg! Thank you for your service!!! I’ve done ONE. Check it out and lemme know what you think. It’s in my Rock Metal Playlist.
LFR FAMILY Hey bruh you’ll get a lot of live version requests and may I suggest you do a studio version w/lyrics first and then do a live version because there’s no one like Iron Maiden live.
LFR FAMILY yessir I’ll do that.
This song is based on the story of The Light Brigade. Through a mix up a brigade of British light cavalry was ordered to charge a position of Russian artillery. Even though they knew they would never survive they charged anyway. Their sacrifice
was honored in a poem by Lord Alfred Tennyson.
The Charge of the Light Brigade.
I
Half a league, half a league,
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
“Forward, the Light Brigade!
Charge for the guns!” he said.
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
II
“Forward, the Light Brigade!”
Was there a man dismayed?
Not though the soldier knew
Someone had blundered.
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die.
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
III
Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them
Volleyed and thundered;
Stormed at with shot and shell,
Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of hell
Rode the six hundred.
IV
Flashed all their sabres bare,
Flashed as they turned in air
Sabring the gunners there,
Charging an army, while
All the world wondered.
Plunged in the battery-smoke
Right through the line they broke;
Cossack and Russian
Reeled from the sabre stroke
Shattered and sundered.
Then they rode back, but not
Not the six hundred.
V
Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon behind them
Volleyed and thundered;
Stormed at with shot and shell,
While horse and hero fell.
They that had fought so well
Came through the jaws of Death,
Back from the mouth of hell,
All that was left of them,
Left of six hundred.
VI
When can their glory fade?
O the wild charge they made!
All the world wondered.
Honour the charge they made!
Honour the Light Brigade,
Noble six hundred!
-Lord Alfred Tennyson-
It would have been taught to every English school kid back in the day. And Maiden turned it into a metal song.
Also: Crimean War (Russia pre Soviet Union vs. a bunch of European nation's) and it was important because it was a turning point in how warfare was conducted. It used to be that a soldier (trooper) on top of a horse was the ultimate weapon on a battlefield, but machine guns changed all that in this battle.
The charge of the light brigade was a classic military blunder where the brigade misunderstood their (confusing) orders and attacked the wrong target. It is a tragic yet very interesting military action.
@@VompoVompatti There's some evidence the commander of the light brigade knew it was a misunderstanding but was itching to have the light brigade see action in the battle, as they were being used primarily as scouts and skirmishers (as was common with light cavalry at the time). He believed in a somewhat fringe military tactical theory of using cavalry to silence artillery even though it was fairly commonly held idea that it was a terrible idea.
You nailed it. Good job putting in the poem.
Listen to enough Iron Maiden and you'll learn a lot of world history. They have a lot of songs about historic events, or famous writings, like Samuel Taylor Coleridge's "Rime of the Ancient Mariner". Their sound is driven by Steve Harris' galloping bass lines and Nicko McBrain's fast, but smooth drums (I didn't want to use galloping twice there). My favorites are "Stranger in a Strange Land" (based on the novel), and "Hallowed Be Thy Name", a song about someone's last day on death row and their state of mind.
The song is about the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava 1854, which took place during the Crimean War.. Britain v Russia .. it was a real war ...nice reaction .. Paschendale next from them would be good
Listen to Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name
You're welcome
Great choice for a live version as well!
^^^The live version at hammersmith
Me Too To really catch the lyrics I’d do a studio version w/lyrics then do a live version because, well because they’re Maiden and no one performs like Maiden Live.
Live is the only way to go
AC/DC and Iron Maiden are poles apart. The former is more hard rock oriented. Maiden are the purveyors of new wave of British Heavy metal that started in the Mid 1970s.
Maiden is the greatest storytelling band of all time, just my opinion, but you'll see hallowed be thy name, rime of the ancient Mariner, Alexander the great, all great stories.
Love me some Iron Maiden for sure. Definitely one of the best storytelling bands in Metal. I would give the top spot, however, to King Diamond. Every album is a single story told through multiple songs. King Diamond albums/stories are all fiction, however. Maiden is based more on history and literature. Either way I thoroughly enjoy them both for their unique musical takes.
You may enjoy sabaton too. After the first two albums they went for history only, and kept it coming. There's even a sabaton history channel with proper historical explanations about the songs and the history that inspired them.
Ancient Mariner and Hallowed be thy Name are my 2 all time favorite songs from them.. The trooper is nice to if you wanna get jacked up.
Iron Maiden is basically a heavy metal history lesson. Welcome to the family, dude.🤘
nah. Sabaton, and if you watch those Sabaton history videos (with Indy Neidell) ,you get way better grasp on history. Not saying Iron maiden is bad (i fuckin love them) but on history wise Sabaton does way better work.
Iron Maiden knows WAY more chords than AC/DC does. Lol
Amimal Gacha lover love Maiden to death but no, not at all! If you’ve ever played their songs by yourself you’ll notice that all their songs (written by Steve Harris, which is the majority) are based on the same four chords in the same order.
That's as funny as saying Lars is a bad drummer. C'mon dude, if that's your opinion you have never actually listened to AC/DC. People listen to like 5 songs and think every song sounds the same. Aaand after all, It ain't what you do it's how you do.
If you liked this check out maiden's run to the hills
Yessss i second this
hell no another reaction to a played out song everyone has reacted to come on guys you can do better how about "till life" off this album or "infinite dreams" from seventh son
@@Bushanie24 but I wanna see HIS reaction to it, not everyone else's
@@thomaspereira1545 siiiiiigh ok whatevs. Everyone doin the same songs is hella boring tho
They have an AC/DC sound only in the way that they play electric guitars, bass and have a drummer. Other than that their sound is heavier and totally different. AC/DC Sings about getting drunk and laid with a whole lot of innuendo and double entendre, Iron Maiden is a history and literature class.
A year from now you'll look back and see the obvious difference between AC DC and Iron Maiden. Iron Maiden has two classically-trained guitar players going crazy and the singer is at another level AC DC is awesome and Iron Maiden is awesome in their own respective ways, but Iron Maiden is far more advanced musically.
👏🏽👏🏽 thank you for not pausing on the solos. That’s how you get a metal head triggered lol 🤘🏽
My favorite metal band of all time.
Finally the goat🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻👍👍👍
I may be repetetive, but react to "Holy wars... The Punishment Due" by Megadeth. The lyrics have some deep meaning and the instruments are great. Propably one of the best thrash metal songs ever.
Thank you for not stopping the solo!
Many of their songs are based on historical events or famous stories. This one is about the Charge of the Light Brigade in the Crimean war, a real event.
Erm... Up the Irons!! Good choice, Great reaction! PS the song is about 'The Charge of the Light Brigade' which was a failed attack by the British light cavalry led by Lord Cardigan against the Russians during the Battle of Balaclava on 25 October 1854 in the Crimean War. Lions led by Donkeys.
❤❤❤ Iron Maiden !!! So glad you're checking them out now too !!
I've been to two of their concerts. They are amazing live. 🙂🤘
Hallowed by thy name. YUP
I'm gonna get my merch ordered, I promise!! We donated to our local food bank and animal shelter this week, but I got my eyes 👀 on merch for next week!!
Awesome video! I'm not that into Iron Maiden but, they have LOTS of fans.
If you like crowd participation and fantastic live rock listen to Iron Maiden "Fear of the Dark " live in Rio
Maiden are great live.
These guys are all well into their 60s now and still touring and selling out stadiums around the world.
went to the concert last month! Suweet
Iron Maiden...when you like a little history in your metal.
Got to love Maiden....One of, if not the Greatest Heavy Metal Band of All time...
Check out their song "Where Eagles Dare"
You won't regret it....🤟🤟
This is about a Battle in Crimea
In the 1800's Between the British on Horseback and the Russians Artillery......
This song always makes me think of Viking worriors! Amazing band.
The singer is certified to fly commercial aircraft.
He owns his own jumbo jet. Bruce Dickinson is an amazing human
This is a British band singing about WWI. Brilliant musicians and intelligent lyrics combined with amazing vocals & musical synergy is what Iron Maiden is all about! My favorite concert of all time was the 86' Powerslave Tour... Seen in SF at the Cow Palace with Twisted Sister opening! General fucking admission for $25 bitches!!!
Steve Harris the Bass Player for maiden is one of the Greatest ever. He leads the Maiden Machine!
Great reaction! Not usually my type of music, but it actually was pretty good! Stay safe 😷
This was the very first metal song I've heard and I fell in love
Same album, but mine was Flight of Icarus.
The song is sometimes also known as the "Charge of the Light Brigade" named after a failed British assault during the Battle of Balaclava in the Crimean War back in 1854.
It's pretty common for metal artists to embrace themes about the futility of historical wars and conflicts. Sabaton is a band that has made themselves famous for it, with literally every track attributed to some war hero, vehicle, vessel or battle, from the Crusades to the Vietnam War.
Great story tellers. The evil that men do by iron maiden is a personal favourite.
Let me start by saying that I am a fan of many metal bands. A short list to follow: Iron Maiden, Dio, Black Sabbath, Rainbow, Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne, Slayer, Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth, Heathen, Hades, Possessed, Mercyful Fate, King Diamond, Jinjer, Strapping Young Lad, Devin Townsend, Gojira, Meshuggah, Yngwie Malmsteen, Pantera, Primus, Infectious Grooves, plus others. I also enjoy bands which hover around Rock/Hard Rock and some Nu Metal types.. AC/DC, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Creed, Godsmack, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Police, Yes, RUSH, Ghost, KISS, Meatloaf, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, plus many others too numerous to mention further. You get the idea though. A ton of music just in the bands listed above considering many have careers spanning 20+ years.
With that being said.. it is almost impossible to find a 'not good' Iron Maiden song. Any suggestion you get for an Iron Maiden song is correct. Period. Iron Maiden is one of the few bands from that list that have a near perfect record for having good music. Literally you can take their entire playlist from every album and pin it to a wall, step back and throw a dart at the list. Any song that it hits will be a good song. They are that good.
Over time you will come to see the differences between each band through both musical style and lyricism. Some you will enjoy more than others.. some you may not like at all.. and that is OK. The journey is well worth the rewards. Your playlist will grow immensely as you go ;)
I love how the driving rhythm sounds like horses charging into battle, like the soldiers' heartbeats. Battle in those days was far more visceral than today.
React to their song Powerslave next, it sounds nothing like AC/DC.
No Maiden sounds like acdc
No, they are NOTHING like AC/DC. AC/DC is rock that uses a repetitive style in it's music (which is not bad, just recognizable) Iron Maiden is metal that uses themes broken up by multiple solo's, riffs and sounds to create a environment to tell a story. You will get there bro, it just takes time and honesty of listening to do it. The trooper is a awesome start point, just keep going!!
They were big in the early 80s. From the UK.
In my humble opinon Iron Maiden's "Hallowed Be Thy Name" and "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" are probably the 2 greatest metal songs ever created. And Iron Maiden being the greatest metal band of all time
I agree ...100% they are Greatest Heavy Metal band of All Time.
I like to add One thing..
Then there is MEGADETH the Greatest Thrash Metal band of all time and "Holy Wars/The Punishment Due" the Greatest Thrash Song of All Time..In my Opinion..🤟🤟🤟
Check out Hallowed Be Thy Name by them next
Brings me back to my youth.... Nazareth is another great Rock band.....✌️
one maiden characteristic is those licks with 2 guitars. u heard it at the first riff, the main riff... normaly they armonize it on minor thirds. that's how u get 2 guitars doing "the same" in different frets and finger positions. even in the first solo there's a part.. i had to play both solos on a temporary band i had which disappeared before 3 months haha
Unleash The Archers "Awakenings"
Yes, love this band as well. He aint ready for this band yet 🤣
@@Hyrodz Everything about this band is professional. From the drums, to the duel guitar timing and the amazing bass and last but not least Brittney Hayes (aka Slayes). She is Awesome! In every way.
What I love about this song is the galloping of the bass guitar, Steve Harris is a bad man!!!
"I don't speak Iron Maiden!" That was classic!!! There are plenty of us who do though :-)
You are in it now
Up the Irons
Iron Maiden has two lead guitarists so you get two for one in the solo`s. Today they have three guitarists. On this song the first guitarist solo`s at 5:27, the second at 5:50 on your video, after the two solo`s they play in harmony. Iron Maiden songs are often an history lesson, this one is based on the Battle of Balaclava and specifically the poem written about it.
Love Iron Maiden! Listen to Run To The Hills
Oh, btw!!! Pay attention to the bass guitar in this band. And relisyen to this song and imagine you're riding horseback and charging into battle. The whole groove will put you there!!!
In my mind the greatest band of all time. They play infront of 100s of 1000s of people, they sing about history and have been around forever. Here’s a few songs to check out
Alexander the Great (awesome history lesson) , Wasted Years, Hallowed Be Thy Name and Blood Brothers
AC/DC is great, but Iron Maiden is even better!!!!
It's European history on the eastern front. It's about a specific Crimean war, but could be any one from the era, really. Also, the sound is noticeable east-european, which is what makes the song so memorable and distinct (and popular all over eastern Europe), as the two general riffs are really accordion / gusle (traditional instrument) riffs.
What?!?! Ac/dc sound??? Not even close!!!
👏👏👏for not pausing during the solo!! 😂😂😂
I'm learning 🤣🤣
LFR FAMILY Ur doin good!!! 💜😂
keep up the good fight
Nice reaction I can see how some of the drumming is sort of familiar in style to AC/DC. But AC/DC is a Hard Rock band with Blues influences. And Iron Maiden is considered a Progressive Metal / Power Metal band. If you were after them live this will make more sense. Please react to Iron Maiden Hallowed Be Thy Name live.
Once again Bruce Dickinson kills it. A classically trained opera singer.
You are almost ready for Motorhead Overkill live !!!
Check out their "Hallowed Be Thy Name"
I FUCKING LOVE MAIDEN! I’m 26 and I’ve had 3-5 Maiden vinyls on my walls at any given time since the age of 6.
Lots of good "replies" to them. Their writing is amazing, lots based on them being British, and history of wars and lots of great themes. This band started playing in 1975, first album in 1980. Their drummer is quite different. AC/DC drummer is always good, but plays the beat. This drummer is more like a controller of differences. Not really beat of the song, but he is impossible to copy. They also seem like early versions of Dreamscape and Nightwish, but better. Not as publicly controlled. The more you hear of these ones, the more you will like. **Lead singer Bruce is an airplane pilot who flies the band all over the world to other concerts...
Nice
Up The Irons 🤘
I appreciate that you didn't pause during the guitar solo.
Based on a poem by Alfred Lord Tennyson - Charge Of The Light Brigade
HALLOWED BE THY NAME LIVE. YUP
As great as ACDC are they can't be compared to Iron Maiden who I honestly feel are leagues above in terms of musical significance on what they've accomplished in their leading the New Wave of British Metal. They are still going strong now. Up the Irons!
The main players were the British and French Empires vs the Russian Empire. The Order given was for the Brithis Light Brigade to go around to keep the Russians from removing heavy guns from the Turkish positions which the Russians had overrun but due to a miscommunication the Brigade was given orders to do a frontal attack on the Russian guns. 670 rode in and made it through and the Russians wheeled the canons around firing at the Brigade and their own comrades. Then they had to run the guantlet back. Of the 670 troopers 110 dead 160 wounded 335-375 horses dead.
good band ..
THEY are from England. 🤘 🤘
Bugles were used to announce orders from a field commander during a large battle back in the day when they couldn’t tell everyone face to face. Obviously nowadays we’ve got radios but that’s how it was done back then. And they sound nothing like AC/DC
charge of the light brigade....Russia vs England...1855 Crimean war
The Bugle was used to announce the beginning of a charge or other commands.😎😎Stay safe.
The Trooper tells a tale about the futile heroism of a British soldier during the Charge of the Light Brigade, a British light infantry manoeuvre during the Battle of Balaclava (1854) part of The Siege of Sevastopol during the Crimean War inspired by Lord Alfred Tennyson’s poem of the same name.
The Crimean War (1853-1856), was a military conflict in which the Russian Empire lost to an alliance made up of the Ottoman Empire, France, British Empire and Sardinia..
hey, my friend..great reaction .. its about the Battle of Balaclava 1854, which took place during the Crimean War...most Maiden songs carry a historical narrative concept to offer substance to the content...you should check out 7th son of the 7th son from their album with the same name
LFR 4 LIFE!!!🤘🤘🤘
Check out Beyond The Black and their cover of this song
Iron maidens Hallowed by thy name should be next.
Classic
I learned more history from Maiden than 5 years in high school...up the irons🤘🤘🤘🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🤘🤘
I never noticed before that the cadence of the song is like the gallop of a horse.
You really notice it in Run To the Hills.
Aces High, 2 Minutes to Midnight, Flight of Icarus, Run to the Hills
THE FATHERS OF METAL....UP THE IRONS!!!!
No Iron Maiden fuck sheltered up bringing 😀 UP THE IRONS!!!
Kick ass music and history lessons..... that's Maiden! AC/DC sound? Not hardly, brah! lol Look up Charge of the Light Brigade.
Its Kind of close, AC/DC is more of Hard Rock while Iron maiden is classic Metal
Yupp,
"Hallowed Be Thy Name" is pretty much standard operating procedure, for Iron Maiden Reactions !!
The live Hammersmith performance !! 🤘
Up The Irons !!
Yeah, because you got the greatest bass player in metal . Maidens Steve Harris playing.
The greatest bass player in music.
Working with Nicko Mcbrain, such a fantastic rhythm section.
Greatest living bass player maybe, Cliff Burton was the greatest of all time past present or future.
@@cullertransportation yeah he was great.. An that's your opinion jus like Steve is mine... If cliff had lived Metallica wouldn't have gone in the sorry ass direction they went. 🤟🏻🤟🏻.
@@cullertransportation no. Steve is the best. Cliff is 2nd for me.
Nothing like AC/DC
Iron Maiden is a british group.
React to Iron Maiden LIVE so you'll see the real Maiden!! Trust me! Cheers from a Venezuelan in Ecuador!!
Uh , , LIVE EVERYTHING St. LOUIS . . 70's 80's 90's HARD CORE TRUTH Hope you all have love for us here . . cuz 911 changed EVERYTHING & NOW so many more musicians are dead before we got to see them! Love to all man, BE REAL!
You gotta check out some Iced earth jack!
Thank goodness you didn't do a live version of this, because when they play this live they play it at 2x speed and while it's still awesome, it loses something when the whole band is struggling to keep up.
I love your face when you say 'is this about Russia' and then they say Russia and you're like yes I'm right!
This is the Charge of the Light Brigade a British cavalry unit that charged the Russians on hills during the Crimea War. The Russians had artillery and machine guns. It did not go well for the Brits that day. The official video has an intro using part of a famous poem and pieces of black and white movies of the war. Chris
This sounds nothing like ACDC.
This song is based on the Crimean War, which was fought by the Russians and the Ottoman Empire (England, France, and Sardinia). There are several mentions of the Russians such as, "The mighty roar of the Russian guns" and "When a Russian gets me in his sights
Check out "Alexander the great" the lyrics tell a story...Iron Maiden are legend...
check out some rush if you love drums man. not the heaviest or fastest band but definietly one of the most technical in rock
