RATM are freaking awesome, not a single crappy song, not one, a few stronger than others but no crappy songs in their catalog; and that is guitar, Tom Morello is one the bravest guitarists I've ever heard, most other guitarists are trying to out shred one another, Tom is off creating his own sonic universe, no rules whatsoever

I’ve always loved this music video. It’s a crash course in true renegades of the human race. Whether they were social, political, musical. Anyone rising up for the people. So inspiring.

Out of all the reaction channels that exist for this kind of thing, I think what I like most about your channel is you have a genuine interest in understanding the band and their work and put in the extra effort ON CAMERA for the rest of the people who might also be curious.
A 5-6 minute song always gets an almost 20 minute video which shows that you got genuine thoughts on it. Not a simple 10 minute video of "wow. crazy. okay." But like REAL thoughts and opinions with energy and feeling.

Tom Morello, one of the most underappreciated and talented guitarists ever. Dude makes the most unique sounds ever. Became the guitarist for Audioslave with Chris Cornell which I'm sure you'll get to.

I heard this song before I discovered the original version. Both are great on their own merits. (Don't get involved in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame mess. That is a major point of contention with both bands and fans. The more you dig, the more you'll hate the main person involved with the Hall of Fame.)

Greatest rock band of all time. Their message means so much to me as queer person, and "the machine" really doesnt like that kind of person. Their music makes me feel invincible as if years of oppression are melting away. I know their music is more about racial tension in the US than anything else, but i cant help making the connection between my life and their message.
You need to give Prophets of Rage a listen as well.

Without knowing any real specifics, I imagine there’s gotta something political about their exclusion from the Rock Hall. They shake things up enough, go against the grain and piss enough people off to get that cold shoulder.

you should react to the full albums! start from the beginning every damn song and album is fire!
First let me say I'm a huge RATM fan. I was in high school when their first album dropped and I got to see them live before they broke up. That said, I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I wish they never made this album. This song is a decent cover but a lot of the album is whack and it undermined a couple of things they'd established. For example, this song includes a percussion sample and up until then every RATM album included a note saying "all sounds made by guitar, bass, drums, and vocals" to drive home the point that no matter what weird noise you heard, it was coming from their instruments. They couldn't say that on this album. This album also features Zack saying the n-word which isn't great.
Regarding the Rock Hall of Fame, that shit is a joke so who cares. They just inducted Dolly Parton. I love Dolly but she's not Rock n Roll. They're trying to be the all-inclusive music hall of fame and there's a limit on the number of artists they allow to be inducted each year. As they continue to expand the categories of music they allow in, it becomes harder for rock bands to get in. But again, it doesn't matter and a "fuck the system" band shouldn't care anyway.
To your question about researching before or after, it's much more fun as a viewer to see you enjoying the experience, so I think you should do whatever you want there -- even if it's different from song to song. What I will say is that if you're going to do research beforehand I would suggest doing that off camera and then starting the video with telling us what you learned before starting the song. Every video is going to be someone's first time watching your channel and they might check out if the first few minutes of the video is you scrolling through your phone. I don't mind it but I can imagine some first time viewers wouldn't have the patience to get to the song reaction.

Do black ppl have Yodeling roots tho? I’m just playing around but I couldn’t help but write what popped in my head. But you know, there might be black yodeling somewhere. :-) I love how music is universal, even tho ppl try to usurp it and pretend like their way is the best. Etc. like how in music theory in college it’s only talking about European composers from the 1700s. That stuff is great but it’s only one of many great styles. The thing is when humans live in communities and hear each others music it becomes a part of them. The music becomes the culmination of everything they’ve ever heard and experienced. It’s really beautiful.
