I've always loved the line "fuck the g ride, i want the machines that are making em."
that line is political as fck
Or as Karl Marx put it, "seize the means of production." Exact same thing, translated more modern.
They told the future love rage
@@elbrucesZach is not saying he wants to take back the means of production in the case of guns and drugs etc he's saying he wants to stop the corrupt powers that allow/implement such markets as a means of control. Not saying RAtM are not Marxist in many ways, I just don't really think this line is really a projection of "seize the means of production", its more concise and is not about taking over the structure to give everyone a stake in the profits of gun manufacture (as an example). Its saying these markets are created and promoted with certain intent behind it, and that he wants to dismantle that structure. The distinction is important IMO
Seize those means comrade
fred was a leader in the black panthers that was assassinated by the cops in his sleep
Yep. Chicago cops murdered him in his sleep. People involved were rewarded financially by FBI Director Hoover. It was part of the US Govt’s efforts to “neutralize” all leaders in the Black community (like they did with Dr. King and Malcom X).
Omg…
@@RabbitHoleTVOfficialyou have to see the movie about fred: Judas and Black messias
@@RabbitHoleTVOfficialthere's a movie about it with Daniel Kaluuya playing Fred Hampton
Zack's uncompromising socialist poetry has been giving me chills for 30 years.
Well said 👌
Zack is the most underrated MC out there. The man just drops truth bombs no matter what

Zack (singer) is Mexican -American his great grandfather was a Mexican revolutionary. Tom ( guitar) is mixed race white and Kenyan. Tom graduated from Harvard. BTW, it’s Row-day-oh = Rodeo like the street in Beverly Hills. This song is one sic bar after another!!!!! They’ve got mad knowledge to drop. Love your videos, love your energy!!!
AHHHH “Rodeo” gotcha! Thank u so much for watching!
Always thought he was Chilean?
Thanks for the knowledge
@tdftv9999 and Zach father was a chicano social activist. Same with Tom's mom, white lady activist for human rights.
Also Tom’s family was involved in the Mao Mao revolution to overthrow British colonialism. His great uncle I think, was the first elected president of Kenya after the revolution, & another fam member the the first ambassador to the UN. They def had the bonifides to be talking their sht.
Answers to your questions:
Who was Fred Hampton? One of the leaders of the Black Panther Party, killed in his sleep (some would say assassinated) by the cops in Chicago.
How is that guitar sound made? Tom Morello doing Tom Morello things. Without getting too technical, he’s using various pedals to change the sound of the guitar, and combining it with some unique playing techniques that he pioneered.
Zach isn’t brown? He’s mostly Mexican, but he’s also got some Irish, German, Jewish, and Black ancestry. As for the rest of the band, Tom Morello (guitar) is half white, half Kenyan. Tim Commerford (bass) is white, and Brad Wilk (drums) is Jewish (specifically Ashkenazi Jewish; some of his relatives are holocaust survivors)
Is everyone okay? Yeah, they’re okay. RATM certainly has an incendiary message, and surely there are people in power who didn’t like what they were saying in their songs, but all in all the band is fine. All the members are outspoken politically, particularly Zach and Tom (who has a political science degree from Harvard), and they are no strangers to political and social pushback for their words
✊🏾
Sadly, the band is now known as "Rage on behalf of the Machine".
@@ericsullivan3963only to right wingers though
@@ericsullivan3963that's the machine talking.....it is all encompassing, better they "sell out" or whatever and spread the message than to let the message be silenced. Remember, after 9/11 and before the internet was EVERYTHING Rage was banned from public radio.....so, regardless of what any of the band members have done since, it does not, and cannot diminish the message they've spread.✊🏽
Fredrick "Chairman Fred" Allen Hampton Sr. (August 30, 1948 - December 4, 1969) was an American activist. He came to prominence in his late teens and very early 20s in Chicago as deputy chairman of the national Black Panther Party and chair of the Illinois chapter. As a progressive African American, he founded the anti-racist, anti-classist Rainbow Coalition.
In 1967, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) identified Hampton as a radical threat. It tried to subvert his activities in Chicago, sowing disinformation among black progressive groups and placing a counterintelligence operative in the local Panthers organization. In December 1969, Hampton was drugged,[8][9] shot and killed in his bed during a predawn raid at his Chicago apartment by a tactical unit of the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, who received aid from the Chicago Police Department and the FBI leading up to the attack. Law enforcement sprayed more than 100 gunshots throughout the apartment;
Fred Hampton tried to unite the poor from all races together to fight their oppressors and was promptly murdered by the US government for it. I strongly suggest you learn about him. They want his name forgotten.
All these young folks just knowing about RATm lol. This was a 90s band we listend to back then.
This is early nu metal (punk/rap fusion). Bands like Limp Bizkit, KORN, Slipknot, Papa Roach, Body Count (Ice T's band) , etc
Ya. Singer Zach De La Rocha is brown. Mexican (native American Spanish Mix). Tom Morello is mixed race. Black and Italian. Guitarist. Rebelliuos political group, they are from LA, California. No shocker lol
Tom morello is another breed. He uses the guitar like no other just so pioneering. Glad it’s getting recognition. Those words as well!
Yeah Tom (guitarist) is Black and Zach (singer/rapper) is Chicano/Mexican.
Well hello darlin, I’m a little late but glad to be here.😊💕
I loved this from the first time I heard it. I didn't catch all the lyrics at first, but it's hard to misunderstand "I'm rollin' down Rodeo wit a shotgun these people ain't seen a brown skinned man since their grandparents bought one." Hard words.
Awesome reaction 🙏 You should do either "take the power back" or "know your enemy" next
Rage is the soundtrack to the revolution brothers and sisters. Your rage is a gift
Also, if you haven’t, Bullet in the Head might be my favorite. In addition to the usual amazing lyrics, it has this amazing funk/hip-hop beat that eventually… I’m not gonna spoil it. And the second verse of Bulls on Parade has some of the best bars I’ve heard.
I just came upon your channel for the first time and I’m already loving it. I’m subbin up. RATM is sick. Also check out music from Tool. Tool and RATM came up together and are all friends. The singer of tool actually sings a little part in ‘know your enemy’ on the first Rage album. Apologies if you’ve already done some Tool. This is the first I’ve seen from you but I’m gonna be checking out all of it. If you react to Tool you will get the entire tool army and I bet you up your subs by thousands within a week. Peace and love from Plymouth mass
Best thing about RATM, three decades later their songs are still valid. Saddest thing about them, three decades later their songs are still valid.
RATM is correct. They say the real shit
"The structure is set, you never change it with a ballot pull" Don't matter who's in charge in Washington.
Fred Hampton was an activist in the 1960s, who came to prominence in his teens in Chicago as the IL chapter chairman of the Black Panther Party. As a black progressive/Marxist , he founded the anti-racist, anti-classist Rainbow Coalition, a multicultural political organization that included the Black Panthers, Young Patriots (which organized poor whites), and the Young Lords (which organized Hispanics), to help form alliances among major Chicago street gangs to help end infighting and work for social change.
In December of 1969, Hampton was drugged by a counterintelligence operative in the local Panthers, shorty after dinner. And in the early morning hours, a raid conducted by Chicago police and the FBI, barged into a Panther owned apartment without warning executing the Panther sitting guard at the door, shot into Fred's bedroom hitting him a couple times, then pulled him to the living room and murdered him point blank with two shots. They sprayed appx 80 more rounds around the apartment and at a room where 4 other Panthers slept. They were all injured, but survived. The four Panthers were drug by police out to the street, beaten viciously, arrested and charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer. The charges were dropped, eventually, but no police or federal agents were ever charged with a crime or punished in any way. Hoover was still in charge of the FBI at this time, and this happened only a year and a half after MLK was assassinated, who's successor, The Reverend Ralph Abernathy, gave the eulogy at the 21yr old Fred Hampton's funeral.
✊🏾
@rabbit-hole TV learning is the main reason RATM exists. Take advantage
Saw them in the summer of 2022, they are still going.
one god; one market; one truth; one consumer
I love watching you feel the music!
Roll Right. Try that song
✊🏾
Tom Morelo can make a guitar scratch like a turntable
I've only just come across your reactions to Rage Against The Machine and have to say it's so brilliant to see young people appreciating the same messages that got to me 30 years back! What's sad and messed up is that we are (mostly) all still raging against what they were! What's changed really? This is coming from me, a 61 year old white English grandmother who feels such a failure, because everything she protested against and fought for from the 1970s onwards is still happening now, regardless of how it has been dressed up 😡 I might feel failure in that wider sense, but I'm proud and successful in that I have raised 4 kids into adults who are as disgusted and angered by racism, homophobia, social injustice and the fact that a handful of greedy power hungry groups control the rest of us! Never forget, there are soooo many more of US than THEM!
G
Hes got protection here in Los Angeles.. trust!
You're voice is fantastic.
You haven't checked out RATM's best song yet, as far as I can tell, which is "Know Your Enemy"
You need to be checking out Run the Jewels with Zack. Killer Mike. Great stuff.
Yeah I was waiting for this one. Zack is, imo, one of the most savage and sickest mc's ever, and no one even knows who he is.....except the ones who were banging this back in the day. You should see them live.....those pits were crazy, hell the whole stadium would be bouncing like on hydraulics. Keep going down this rabbit hole. Other bands back then that were heavy hiphop/rap were Stuck Mojo and Hed-Pe......also savage and heavy.
There’s a switch on an electric guitar that you use to switch between the pickups and change the sound a bit. Tom’s is modified to cut the sound entirely and he uses it like a DJ uses a crossfader when they’re scratching.
Happy that RATM is getting attention still in 2023. I wonder if we had reaction/breakdown videos in the 90's, they would've blown up more or maybe would have been silenced more.
4:33 He modded the guitar alright…. With the nasty funky groovy woovy
Zach de la Rocha is the vocalist, and he is definitely brown. Tom Morello on the guitar, and he is the one that makes all the crazy sounds
I enjoyed Zach de la Rocha's collab with 'Run da Jewels' it was great, and on point.
That's bass gatt in the back
Zack's of Mexican-American origin (as are both Cedric and Omar of Mars Volta btw, who are equally amazing)
Tom Morello is doing Tom Morello things with the guitar obviously 🙂😅 (I have no good explanation despite having listened to them since my teens - some sort of signature effect yep 😂)
Keep the RATM reactions coming!
Rodeo drive is a high class shopping street in Hollywood.
Loving your Rage reactions! You should really just do their entire catalogue, they don’t have a bad song.
You asked where they are - Zack was recently seen at a protest for Palestine. And Tom went to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to represent the group for their induction. The others didn’t go as a protest, but Tom gave a fire speech and used his red carpet appearance as an opportunity to call for a ceasefire.
Some people will claim they rage “for” the machine now, but it couldn’t be farther from the truth.
You’re doing the exact right thing with lyric videos. I’d like to suggest a few of their official videos you should watch with closed captions on: Sleep Now in the Fire, Testify, and Freedom.
I’d also recommend some live performances, their energy is wild.
PinkPop 93’ is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
YES BELLY SEND IT ALL TO ME! And thank u so much for the RATM knowledge!
All of that plus the official video "renegades of funk"
Also worth mentioning listen to the first 3 albums for the message, listen to 4th album for their influences (cause they're all cover songs).....then go listen to the bands they covered
Fred Hampton was a leader of the black Panthers. He was killed by the FBI.
The guitar player is Tom Morello. He has a bunch of distortion pedals. He has played using the amp cord before. He's wild.
They came out in the 90’s they’re thee only band that delivers their anti establishment message louder than any artist before or after their time. They scream it from the mountain tops with zero F’s given!
Fred Hampton (August 30, 1948 - December 4, 1969) was an American socialist activist and revolutionary. President of the Black Panther Party (BPP) in Illinois and vice president of the BPP at the national level, he was assassinated by the FBI and the Chicago police officer while he was sleeping.........HOOVER WAS A BODY REMOVER........im Italian .....living in Spain..... ....is quite sad....but ratm are teachers ...history teacher also .... just dig a bit deeper ....hugs !!!!
Hold on sir! I loved your reaction
"Know Your Enemy"
RATM's cover of "renegades of funk" - the official video, is dsng near a reading list. Have the lyrics off to the side, of course. Any band that name-drops Gil Scott Heron...
T you are the best!
Tom uses a specific pedal to make the guitar scream like that
Pedal?! Wth
@@RabbitHoleTVOfficial Guitar players usually have a set of pedals that they can hit with their feet while playing that change the sound of electric guitars. If you watch a live performance and watch the guitar player you can see them use them sometimes. Tom Morello's pedalboard consists of the following pedals:
Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2 Plus power supply.
MX Phase 90 phaser.
DOD FX40B EQ.
Two Boss DD-3 delays.
DigiTech Whammy WH-1.
Dunlop GCB95 Cry Baby wah.
DigiTech XP-300 Space Station.
Boss TU-3 tuner.
Side note: I love seeing the younger generation discovering RATM and the message they were sending us back in the 90's that sadly is as relevant today as its always been. Bulls on Parade, Testify, Renegades of Funk, and Killing in the Name are all tracks I'd suggest but there isn't a bad song in their catalogue.
yezzir!!!
Heya, lil bro.) I think you ready for another their song - Renegades of funk.)
Love your reaction!
Love you john! Thanks for watchin!
Fred Hampton was probably the most based member of the black Panthers possibly the one who held most faithfully to the ideal of the movement. He was shot in his bed by the police
Put, "just a quiet peaceful dance", in the Google machine, with "native American"..
Get your rage up!!
✊🏾
Love you!❤
rage is from LA
"Vietnow" off the same album is a good'n
Good to see you back, my friend! Have a good Thanksgiving, and remember that man abawe ya…
Always! Happy Holidays my friend
It’s the stank face for me tho 😂😂😂😂 love this reaction
😂 thank youuu
_My verbs fly like the family stone... _
Referring to Sly and the Family Stone, a (mostly) 70s, (mostly) funk group.
Where the lyrics at with Tom on guitar there ??
You should react to Judas & The Black Messiah(2021) and Read The Black Panthers Speak(edited by Phillip Foner) to learn about Fred Hampton.
Yeah..next time could be ' Renegade of funk '..
My favorite, shame it wasn't a single. They make it a point on each album to say evey sound made came from bass drum guitar and vocals. Tom uses an allen wrench to make people of the sun, and revolver was made by tapping a pencil on the strings
❤
RATM is gonna change you for the good, or not. Freedom.
If you watch the live version it’s easier to see what he’s doing on the guitar.
Fred Hampton- find/watch Judas and the black Messiah
hi ya.
sit down and brake this song down and u will be more educatet than most : ))
They're both brown, just different kinds...Zack's chicano, Tom's father was from Kenya.
Fred Hampton is your history, our history, he's worth looking up and knowing about, along with a lot of other people, like Leonard Peltier and Huey Newton. "Those who don't know their history are doomed to repeat it." This shit is still going on, so more people need to wake up.
you need to do Know Your Enemy if you have not done it already , I would rate it better than this track
