Here’s the real easy solution for players out there, avoid Farwil and his compatriot completely, don’t speak to them, avoid them, hop over or swim through lava, then grab the sigil stone without ever interacting with them at all, they’ll then spawn outside the gate with you when you do.
You could have waited between fights to heal their HP, and there's some ways to avoid having them following you, beyond mage specific stuff like casting 100% Chameleon on them, healing them ect.
Ugh this quest always made me mad. I'd try so hard to get him and his crew out of oblivion, not for the spoiled kid, but for his unhealthily loyal guards. Lol I wish the AI was a bit better but at the time I was absolutely blown away, even if it was by their stupidity lol. Appreciate the channel, and have a good day y'all.
Every time I do this quest, he dies. His reputation precedes him since he keeps diving into battle and dying. To avoid him dying, I just avoid him altogether and shut the gate since he spawns outside every time.
I've always loved the way the guard initially seems to know absolutely nothing about the Gate, yet by the end, he's all, "Yeah go in there, grab the old sigil stone and you're all done" like he invented the thing 😅
You can actually clear an area/ room, wait and they have full health. You can also leave them a floor below you while you clear the top floors. Once all enemies are gone, go back for them, then elad them to the sigil stone. Both of them will be alive and well!
Yes, Farwil is a bit of an idiot. But he has his heart at the right place and confronts the evil head on while the guards just stand around. If he keeps this duty to honor and learns a bit more humility he will once make a great count.
To this day I still quote "huzzah!" IRL and in other games. Sometimes I forgot where I got it from, then I play Oblivion again every now and then and am reminded. This game makes me so happy with its goofiness and hammy setting, on top of being pleasantly fun in its own sake with some under-the-hood mods that fix some of the bad mechanics. I don't think any game makes me smile more.
Thanks for all you do. I know it isn’t much but I want you to know how much your content means to me. Your morrowind series in particular being amazing for my work life. Thank you.
I usually lower the difficulty way down and wait so the knight's health will be restored to full if they get into a tricky fight here and there throughout the gate. Also, huzzah!!
@@Rizu-kc3ze yeah it's hinted that the count killed his wife. She was found dead at the foot of the stairs apparently, but you learn he is very lecherous, parties constantly and cheats and she wasn't a fan. Then suddenly she ends up dead due to an "accident".
@@Rizu-kc3ze its one of those story telling bits you just learn. Theres a video by a ln elderscrolls youtuber called, like, Darklore. He reviews the entire thieves guild in extreme detail and does a fantastic job of showing how great oblivions subtle storytelling is. I reccomend it
With Farwil, I would quicksave in EVERY room and wait for one hour when I could because I wanted the highest reward. The urge to strangle a noble's son was strong that day. Edit: spelling
If you have high enough acrobatics, you can just jump into the tower, clear the whole place and then go back to Farwil, all these just to save his dumbass, Huzzzah!!
Omg this is sooo annoying. I saw a playthrough thi where they just ran past farwil and closed the gate! And since he didnt engage them when the gate closed farwil & his friend spawned outside
When I played it the first time I also had difficulty in keeping them alive while combating through the sigil keep trying to kill every enemy on the way. I found the following strategy for completing the quest in a way that saves them both. When you have fought your way into the sigil keep with Farwil and his friend you take off all your armor (it will speed your movement up), leave them two fighting the daedra on the first floor, and you just quickly run up, through the corridors while, dodging all the enemies on the way and just reach the top and grab the sigil stone. Mission accomplished and if you do it quickly enough the knights are safely teleported with you back to Cyrodiil. Alternatively you can use healing spells on the knights to keep them alive and just battle it out together until you reach the sigil stone. Actually other Oblivion plane sigil stone capturing quests can be completed effectively by similarly sprinting past all the daedra and just grabbing the stone. Especially if you have good athletics skill level. Of course the manoeuvering past the enemies will take some practice.
I managed to save Farwil when I lowered the difficulty, but on subsequent playthroughs I just used a mod "Set Essential Actors". The quest completes even if he dies, so saving him is an optional objective. And as it is Oblivion, the consequences for the game world are unnoticeable. I really like this feature of Oblivion, this is the game to do every quest in the same playthrough. I don't buy mutually exclusive quests as the incentive to replay a game. If the game is good, we well replay it even if there are no choices whatsoever.
I used spell crafting to make a couple really strong on touch buffs to durability and damage. Magic Resist. Heavy Armor. Damage to help him murder the Daedra sooner. Worked pretty well. Huzzah!
Guys, once you get to a floor or two up. Just run the rest, they will dissapear off to fight enenies but once u get the stone they will reappear outside the gate! Maybe i got lucky, but i never got the dreaded "farwill has died" message when running through each floor door.. 3 hours prior i tried saving at each floor when their health was fairly full, reload and repeat when they die.
I simply told Farwil and his chap to wait for me at the place I met them, cleaned the path and then returned to the knights and took them for a walk in the park.
I’d enter The Tower Portal while making them wait outside. I clear the bottom, then get them to follow again. I do this until The Sigilium Sanguise. And if they fight, you can skip an hour and Farwil and Bremman will regain their health.
I wish I knew to just avoid them and get the sigil stone myself so they’d spawn right outside, but what I usually did was just save. A LOT. Save before every fight and wait so they go back to full hp. It was annoying but worth cause I always want to get the reward lol
This is one of the only quests where I have no shame about save-scumming. You sometimes have to save every couple of minutes to keep that idiot alive. And then you sometimes get the notification that he's dead before you even meet him!
PC players on this quest: Open ~, select enemy (Not Farwell and Brenwyn), type kill, repeat. Don't bother with levels as there is more than enough gates to grind levels on.
Hey Bard, any idea of what game you'll move onto after you finish covering Oblivion's content? I'd be interested to see your thoughts on Morrowind, but you'd have to put a real shift in with your commentary since there is almost no voice acting
Screw allies for Bruma. Jauffre is the one who lost the amulet, so he reaps the consequences. I ain't goin through all those gates. Let him do it if he wants to live.
OMG I hate this quest so much. I wish there was someway to avoid him. But on the Xbox there isn't. I really really really hate this quest. There's no way to leave him behind or tell him to wait. UGH.
hes really in love with the sound of his own voice. "we fast travel here so its faster to go there" "the guard tells us to speak to aminus so we speak to aminus".. yeah we have eyes and ears too btw

What a nice surprise for a Saturday morning! Now I have something to watch while relaxing before work 🙏🙏
in the Shivering Isle expansion there is a fellow Knight of thorn you cand do a quest for. I just remembered that.
