    People hate Mazoga way too much. I found her to be quite sweet towards the end of the quest. I also tend to play as an Orc so people being rude to my character is the norm. It's implied, at least to me, that she used to be part of the Black Bows herself or maybe just a bandit that made deals with them. Probably why her friend got killed in the first place, the story was made up so that Mazoga seems more "knightly".

      She’s rough around the edges, and it’s clear that she only has a rudimentary understanding of knighthood from children’s fables or sensationalist stories. But despite this, she zeroes in on the important parts: to defend the land, leave no wrong unanswered, and always be referred to as “Sir”. I was initially put off by her brusqueness, but I later warmed up over the course of the questline.

    I like Mazoga, I enjoy doing her quests, and I'll never turn down an opportunity to collect some black bows. I get a real sense of satisfaction when we call each other "Sir Knight" officially. She gets way too much hate just for being rude in the beginning, but the point is that you both earn each other's respect through good deeds

    Love Mazoga. I like putting the Black Brugo quest on hold and having her as a follower. She sometimes proves to be an absolute beast in battle. At least early to mid-game. Last time I did the quest I was bogged down by one of the bandits and Mazoga killed Mogens Wind-Shifter and the other two herself. And I have seen her solo some high level dremoras in oblivion gates.
    I did wonder about her bandit past but I believe her longing to be a good and moral knight is genuine. She comes across as being pretty much a simpleton, doubt she was actually evil in her darker past.

    My theory is that Mazoga was in fact a bandit of some kind but- may not know that it’s bad?
    she doesn’t seem like the sharpest tool in the shed and from the way she act, blunt as it is, seem pretty pure hearted/want to do good.
    she seem like a decent fighter so I theorize that she was probably manipulated by others into doing crime for them due to her combat talent, probably deeply see others who are kind to her as genuine brothers and friends.
    not saying being a bandit is ok just because of that, but I believe she is a good person at heart, but quite dull and was manipulated into doing bad things without knowing the extent of the bad deed she was doing.

    I am not a fan of this questiline. There are many holes in the story like when count says he doesn't know Mazoga and then he says that he knows about her apparently being a bandit and that she knows who Black Brugo is. We do never really know the real truth about her past and it's a bit shady. Also after the quest it is sad that she only says 1 dialogue and you can't even speak to her nornally anymore at least like you can with almost any other regular NPC.
    Also I had no idea she goes hunting for Black Bows by herself. I thought she is always in the house. Still, this is a bad mechanic, it would be nicer, if we could ask her, if she wants to go hunt Black Bows with the player, instead of her doing this as a routine as an NPC. We could simply ask if she wants to go hunt Black Bows with us and also choose one of the few destinations we could go to where the Black Bow bandits are. That's one thing that I am sad that Oblivion doesn't have - follower NPC to help us fighting; non-quest related one. There are only quest-related followers in Oblivion.

    Since most gamers are uncultured swits, a "knights errant" is the classic character archetype of the knight who travels around looking for adventures and chances to prove their honor and the like. Youre welcome.

    I think Mazoga gets way too much flak for being a jackass at the start of the quest. I mean, Modryn Oreyn (The Fighters' Guild's Dunmer quest-giver) also starts off like a douche, but I don't see nearly as many people roasting him.
    As for the whole "Mazoga being an outlaw" thing?
    I think both of these quests are something of a redemption arc for Mazoga. She was an outlaw (possibly a bandit), but she seemed to be relatively well-adjusted by bandit standards, having a friend who was (probably) a law-abiding citizen. But Ra'vindra saw something she wasn't supposed to, reported it to the guards, and then Mogens responded by killing her (as a bandit would). This seemed to be the final straw for Mazoga, as she devoted the rest of her time to hunting him down.
    Thing is, if the city she was operating in _was_ Leyawiin, then why didn't the Count simply arrest her the instant he realized she was in the castle? I think the answer is simple: She was acting too strange. I mean, we have a known outlaw who's openly walking around the city (in the *fucking CASTLE,* no less), but instead of extorting or robbing anyone, she's insistent on speaking to the Count or one of his close friends. This sort of behavior is the last thing you'd expect a wanted fugitive to be doing. So to me, it seems the Count decided not to act right away, in the hopes of gleaning more information (besides, if she does anything stupid, she's right in the middle of a small army of guards). And sure enough, your character eventually shows up and ultimately reveals the reason for her presence.
    Wanted outlaw or not, she proves instrumental in taking out other wanted outlaws. I mean, after just these two quests, she (along with your character) has already brought down two notorious bandit kingpins. In your video on the Counts and Countesses ranked, I mentioned I was torn on Marius' attitude towards Argonians, concluding that he was either blind with lovesickness to his wife's actions, or complicit in them, and simply playing nice to an Argonian character. Well, if the Count is genuinely a good person, then it makes sense for him not to prosecute Mazoga, as he's forgiven her for her crimes and supports her new law-bringing way of life. If he's a manipulative douche, then it _still_ makes sense for him to leave Mazoga alive, as she's a useful tool in culling the outlaws; after all, a former outlaw would be all too familiar with the habits of her targets.
    Fun fact (sort of): There's the matter of "Sir" Lazare Milvan, of Skingrad; according to NPC dialogue, he insists on people calling him _"Sir_ Lazare". There's a theory (one which I think you touched on in one of your videos) that Lazare was part of a cut quest. If so, then he would've been the perfect foil for Mazoga. Just like her, he would've been an abrasive jackass simply pretending to be a knight. Thing is, Mazoga was from a life of poverty and turns out to be a genuinely good person when the chips are down; Lazare, on the other hand, is already well-to-do (having a fancy house and extravagant clothes), and I think he would've ultimately proven himself to be every bit as unpleasant as he initially seemed.
    Edit: Fixed a typo at the start.

    • @poryg5350
      @poryg5350 8 днів тому

      Modryn Oreyn has a reason to be a jackass. He's the second-in-command of the fighter's guild in Chorrol. Plus, Oreyn is merely condescending on rookies. Mazoga is worse as on top of being condescending, she calls herself "sir", demands undeserved respect and that everyone does her bidding.
      Female orcs have the lowest personality of all races, so guess it's to be expected, but still, her behavior makes one want to assassinate her.

    Would you say Mazoga's initiative to be called "Sir" is an allegory to trans people wanting to be called by their preferred pronouns? I see many parallels, the troubled past, dressing masculine, acting tough, having this sense of revenge/justice, being emotional but also repressing her feelings. The back story with her "friend" Ra'Vindra also sounds more like a tragic romance, something tjat may have started as a lesbian relationship, but feeling weak as a woman, losing her partner, she decided to become a knight. Now weilding weapons or wearing armor isn't reserved to men in Oblivion, not even being a knight (as can be seen with the Crusaders), however Mazoga seems to identify most with the masculine idea of a heroic warrior, something not really culturally adsociated with women, outside of something as for example Joan of Arc, but even she has a more passive role, as she's most widely known as a martyr, not a fighter.

    • @ruthlesace
      @ruthlesace 5 днів тому +1

      No. Back when the game was made "trans" wasn't anywhere near well enough talked about to be relevant enough to include. Mazoga being female means nothing in the elder scrolls lore since women can hold positions of power and are considered some of the greatest fighters when they put their minds to it. And her background being similar? Most people go through tough times, in the elder scrolls orcs go through some of the most, she is much more likely a reference to the "knight's tale" written by Henry Chaucer.
