  • What would you do if you became the only non-criminal locked up in Britain’s most violent prison? That’s exactly what happened to Peter Sage. His world was turned upside-down when he served 6 months as the only civil prisoner in one of the UK’s toughest jails, but ended up winning acclaim, friends and a national award for his work that changed the lives of many prisoners. In this TEDx Talk, Peter shares his story along with how you can deal with the toughest situations and become your best when life gives you its worst. Peter Sage is a well known international serial entrepreneur, author, philosopher, personal growth expert, and teacher. His unique way of looking at and relating to life has inspired millions of people worldwide to reinvent themselves. Whether by improving or turning around a business or developing a new and empowering psychology through practical yet profound shifts in awareness, Peter hopes his insights and teachings can offer something of value to those who seek it. It all depends on your approach to learning, at school the teachers try to cram their student with as much as the curriculum demands, which can mentally exhausting. If you maintain the 'yearn to learn' it becomes far more pleasurable, to learn without educational pressures. As you're starting to realise Amber.

14:58 "...the best trees don't grow in the best soil, they grow in the strongest winds. So if you want to be the best version of yourself, start praying for strong winds, and don't complain when they show up."
I've heard that many people pray for patience...and then they proceed to go through situation after situation where their patience is pushed past their limit.
As for myself (already knowing that about people who pray for patience), a few years back I prayed for strength. Guess what happened...I ended up going through situation after situation that was like those "strong winds", so that over and over again I have felt like I was pushed so hard that I was at my breaking point. (A few times, I did feel like I had been broken.) I still don't feel like I am strong-enough to bear the burdens in my life...but I'm stronger than I was before, stronger than I was months ago, stronger than I was years ago when I prayed for strength. It worked, but I had no idea what I was asking.
This is a good analogy in the video. It clarified and gave me words for what I already realized had happened. Now I understand that when I prayed to be stronger, I was praying for "strong winds" to come, I was inviting change to come in my life. I don't like the wind...but I now know that I don't have to fear the wind or shrink back from it.
    _____
Another important tree analogy that I have learned from is from the Bible (Jeremiah 17:7-8) about being
"like a tree planted by the water that extends its roots by a stream, and does not fear when the heat comes".
Like how this presenter, Peter Sage, had a purpose in mind when he went into the prison, ... I think that it is important to know where your strength comes from. It matters that you know what you believe, and that no matter the circumstance, you can choose how you face it.
